Clemson commit stands out among 2023 recruits at ‘The QB Retreat’

Clemson’s top 2023 commit turned some heads at a two-day quarterback camp this past weekend.

Clemson’s top 2023 commit turned some heads this past weekend.

Attending Steve Clarkson’s ‘The QB Retreat,’ four-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina was the standout 2023 recruit who impressed 247Sports’ Greg Biggins. Clarkson’s camp is sponsored by Addidas and gives young quarterbacks a chance to prepare for the high school and college level.

Here’s what Biggins had to say about Vizzina’s performance.

If we had to pick a Top Performer among the 2023s, it would have to be Clemson commit Christopher Vizzina. We mentioned him as a stock up guy heading in to the camp and he was very good all day long.

At 6-4, 205 pounds, Vizzina has a solid frame, a live arm, effortless release and was very accurate, throwing with really good timing and anticipation. He looked comfortable throwing in the pocket or rolling out left or right and his upside looks very high.

He’s currently rated the No. 53 player nationally in the Top247 after jumping up from No. 96 in March and you can make a solid argument he should continue climbing up.

Although the camp was only two days, Biggins’ comments on Vizzina should give confidence to fans on Clemson’s future quarterback room. With the arrival of five-star signal-caller Cade Klubnik, Clemson will have him and Vizzina when DJ Uiagalelei eventually departs.

Vizzina committed to Clemson on April 12 and is the highest-rated commit in the Tigers’ 2023 class, which features three other players. According to MaxPreps, Vizzina played in 11 games in his junior season, completing 68.4% of his passes for 2,065 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 600 yards and 15 touchdowns on 122 attempts.

It should be noted that Uiagalelei and Trevor Lawrence attended the quarterback camp in their high school days, giving precedent for the camp’s success.

Recruiting updates for Notre Dame targets from ‘The QB Retreat’

Some encouraging news

For many, it has seemed like the missing piece for the Irish program has been at quarterback. It’s not just having one on your roster that can carry a team, it’s also about having depth and incoming prospects that can be passed the torch.

The current Notre Dame group is solid, but unproven, loaded with talent but still rough around the edges. That’s not a knock on [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag], [autotag]Drew Pyne[/autotag] or [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag], it’s just a fact. [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] is trying to change the influx of quarterback talent, going after some high level prospects.

An event like ‘The QB Retreat’ hosted by well respected quarterback coach Steve Clarkson brings plenty of talented players to the event. Fortunately for us, Greg Biggins of 247Sports was on-hand and shared updates on multiple prospects that are considering Notre Dame.
