Here are three keys to a Florida win vs Stetson on Sunday

The Gators are favored heavily to win their weekend matchup with the Hatters, and here’s what they can do to make it happen.

The Gators go into their third game of the season as victors in their first two contests. Their most recent game — a blowout against Boston College — was a huge confidence boost in this team’s ability to play at a high level on both ends of the court. With momentum on their side and another beatable team on the docket, it’s shaping up to be a fun afternoon for Florida fans.

The Stetson Hatters, who have lost both of their games on the young season, come to Gainesville licking their wounds after a loss to Miami that saw them walk off the court with a 22-point deficit. Their roster features two Preseason All-ASUN selections in center Mahamadou Diawara and guard Rob Perry. One under the radar player to keep an eye on is redshirt freshman Chase Johnston. He put up good numbers against Miami while the rest of his team stumbled.

There’s every reason to believe that Florida can win this game. ESPN’s basketball power index gives the Hatters only a 3 percent chance of victory. The odds are so in their favor of UF, this matchup is off the books at most betting sites. In the places you can gamble on the outcome, the Gators are favored by 21.5 points. However, there’s still no excuse to phone in their performance; upsets are an integral part of college basketball.

In that spirit, here are three things that Florida needs to accomplish to pull out a win on Sunday afternoon.

Ohio State baseball loses to Stetson 9-1

The Ohio State baseball team couldn’t hang with Stetson Friday night, losing 9-1 in DeLand, Florida.

The Ohio State baseball team took it on the chin Friday night, dropping the first game of the weekend series 9-1 to Stetson in DeLand, Florida.

The Buckeyes got out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning and seemed to have dodged a bullet with ace Seth Lonsway on the mound. In reality, it was just the beginning of more offensive opportunities for the Hatters.

Stetson struck first in the bottom of the 2nd inning, plating two runs on two walks, a single, and a wild pitch. It got two more in the 3rd inning with Lonsway continuing to struggle with his command. He was lifted in the inning after giving up another single and a walk, but the damage was done with OSU down 4-0.

Ohio State’s only run came in the top of the 5th inning on a two-out rally. Matt Carpenter walked, then Mitchell Okuley lined one off the wall for an RBI triple to make the score 5-1. Unfortunately, that’s as close as the scarlet and gray would get, ultimately surrendering four more runs.

It has been a very disappointing start to the season to say the least for the Buckeyes. The loss drops Ohio State’s overall record to 3-7. It’ll try to get some momentum going on the season when it goes at it again tomorrow at Noon against Harvard.

Excitement for the upcoming match between the Tennessee Volunteers and Missouri Tigers football teams is steadily rising, fueled by the Vols’ three-game winning streak and their push for a bowl bid. Speaking of winning streaks, the Lady Vols basketball squad look to extend their season opening surge to five games tonight against the Stetson Hatters. For starters, one particular Vol has been playing his best in recent weeks.

Warrior playing his best football

Senior DB Nigel Warrior has been playing his heart out this season.

His 58 tackles are the second most for the Vols and he is currently in a tie with three other players for most interceptions in the Southeastern Conference, with four; three of those interceptions have come in the last five games. He has also broken up five passes and added a tackle for loss.

Head coach Jeremy Pruitt had the following to say about his star secondary player.

“Nigel has continued to work hard every day at practice. He’s been a really good leader for us. He has improved tremendously from last year to this year and he continues to get better. He’s playing his best football right now.

“He’s kind of turning into a complete player, whether it’s playing the ball, playing man-to-man, or tackling in space, he has improved and continues to improve in all of those areas. Like everybody else, he wants to play his best game this next week. So, he’s going to work hard to do it this week.”

Warrior has been named to the PFF College SEC Team of the Week now twice and on the PFF’s National Team of the Week once.

Ohio State basketball beats Stetson: 3 Things we learned

Ohio State decimated an overmatched Stetson squad. Here’s three things we learned from the action.

It wasn’t expected to be much of a test, but some of these early non-conference games are invaluable opportunities to get some of the young guys playing time. It also provides a chance to further cement roles and the culture of a team still trying to figure itself out.

Ohio State did that and then some Monday night against Stetson, winning easily and thoroughly by a score of 86-51. There will ultimately be bigger fish to fry for this Buckeye squad, but there’s still plenty to learn and observe anytime the bright lights go on.

As we do after every Ohio State basketball game, we give you three things that stood out.
