HALFTIME REPORT: Alabama leads Georgia 9-6 at the half

HALFTIME REPORT: Alabama leads Georgia 9-6 at the half

After a flurry of field goal attempts by each team, Alabama leads the Georgia Bulldogs 9-6 at the half.

Alabama placekicker Will Reichard connected on all three of his field-goal attempts. Georgia’s Jack Podlesny connected on both of his field-goal attempts as well.

Bryce Young finished the first half 15-26 for 206 yards. Star Tide wide receiver went down after a 40-yard reception with an apparent knee injury that will likely sideline him for the remainder of the contest.

Stetson Bennett was 11-17 for 127 yards. The lone big play for the Bulldogs was when Bennett connected with George Pickens for a 52-yard pickup.

The second half should be fun and Roll Tide Wire will be here every step of the way!

Alabama vs. Georgia: Final thoughts before kickoff of CFP championship game

Alabama vs. Georgia: Final thoughts before kickoff of CFP championship game

We are closing in on the kickoff of the 2022 College Football Playoff national championship game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Both teams have had magical seasons and hope to finish the season on a high note, hoisting the national championship trophy.

Alabama took care of the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship back in December, 41-24. Georgia hopes to get the best of the Tide this time around while also winning its first national championship since 1980.

Nick Saban and the Tide are seeking to become the first team to repeat as champions in the playoff era. A win would give Saban seven championships while in Tuscaloosa, and it would be his eighth overall as a college head coach.

Here are some final thoughts before kickoff.

3 keys to victory for Alabama in CFP title game vs. Georgia

These three things need to happen if Alabama wants to repeat as champions!

Gameday has officially arrived. Tonight, Alabama and Georgia will square off for the College Football Playoff national championship in Indianapolis.

Alabama got the best of the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship in December, 41-24. Georiga will be looking for revenge and its first national championship since 1980.

Nick Saban and the Tide are seeking to become the first team to repeat as champions in the playoff era. A win would give Saban seven championships while in Tuscaloosa and it would be his eighth overall as a college head coach.

In these types of matchups, the margin for error is so small. The Crimson Tide will need to play well if they have hopes of hoisting the championship trophy once again.

Now, let’s take a few moments to look at three keys to victory for Alabama as they try to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs.

First …filling Metchie’s void…

UGA vs. Bama: 10 prop bets for the CFP National Championship Game

UGA Wire presents 10 proposition bets for the national championship clash between UGA and Bama.

It’s another clash of the titans.

The immovable object against the irresistible force.

Georgia versus Alabama.

The Georgia Bulldogs face their SEC nemesis, the Alabama Crimson Tide, in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday at 8 p.m. EST in Indianapolis as the blueblood programs engage in another heavyweight rivalry bout.

The Dawgs will be looking to claim their first national championship since the 1980 season and end a seven-game losing streak against the Tide.

UGA quarterback Stetson Bennett has thrown for 2,638 yards with 27 touchdown passes and seven interceptions this season. Zamir White leads the Dawgs with 772 rushing yards, and Brock Bowers leads the team with 846 receiving yards.

Georgia is a 2½-point favorite over Alabama, according to Tipico Sportsbook.

With all that in mind, UGA Wire presents 10 proposition bets for the CFP National Championship Game.

5 Bulldogs to watch in the CFP national championship

5 Bulldogs Tide fans should watch in the CFP national championship!

When Alabama and Georgia face off on Jan. 10 in the CFP national championship, there will be as much NFL talent collectively on the field as a college football game could possibly have.

Both the Tide and Bulldogs are littered with future next-level stars and the SEC title game rematch is destined to be one to remember.

Alabama dominated Georiga a month ago in Atlanta 41-24. Bryce Young picked apart the Bulldog secondary and the Tide defense made the plays when they needed to, including a Jordan Battle pick-six to seal the victory.

The Bulldogs are fired up for the rematch and Alabama is focused on winning back-to-back titles for the first time in playoff history.

Before the two titans of college football clash, let’s take a look at five of the Georgia Bulldogs that Alabama fans should look for in the contest.

Tale of the Tape: What Alabama has to do to keep UGA offense in check

The Alabama defense can easily recreate the results from the SEC Championship Game, but here’s what they need to do.

Here we are again, Tide fans. For the second consecutive season, Alabama is playing for a national championship. This time around the game is being played in Indy and against a familiar foe: the Georgia Bulldogs.

If memory serves you as well as it serves me, you’ll remember that the last time this matchup occurred in the national championship game (2017), Tua Tagovoiloa entered in the second half to bring the Crimson Tide from behind to bring their eighteenth national title home to Tuscaloosa.

While Tagovoiloa isn’t on the field, the man that is behind center may end up being the best quarterback in Alabama football history. Sophomore Bryce Young is more than capable of earning the Tide its nineteenth title. But he will need some help from the Alabama defense to stay the course.

In the Orange Bowl CFP semifinal, Georgia handed Michigan a beating that many people couldn’t foresee. Their offense clicked like they hadn’t in any game this season. The Bulldogs have relied heavily on an elite defense to win the bulk of their games. But this time, both the offense and defense were clicking together beautifully.

Stetson Bennett, a former walk-on starting at QB for Georgia, played one of the best games of his college career, completing 20 of 30 passes for 313 yards with three touchdowns.

The Bulldogs took the opening kickoff and drove 80 yards in seven plays for a touchdown, with Bennett throwing a 9-yard touchdown pass to freshman Brock Bowers for a 7-0 lead. With that touchdown reception, Bowers set Georgia’s single-season receiving touchdowns record with 12.

Michigan, which had scored nearly 150 points in its last three outings, couldn’t muster much of anything against a Georgia defense that was surprisingly vulnerable against the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game. The Wolverines turned the ball over three times, surrendered four sacks and went 1-for-3 in the red zone.

The Wolverines were stopped on fourth down at the Georgia 41 on their opening possession. Michigan’s offense had just one play longer than 20 yards in the first half — a 42-yard pass to Roman Wilson to the Georgia 19. But then the Bulldogs sacked Cade McNamara for an 8-yard loss on the next play, and Michigan had to settle for Jake Moody’s 36-yard field goal.

Georgia didn’t allow a sack and held All-American Aidan Hutchinson to four tackles and only one tackle for loss. All-Big Ten linebacker David Ojabo didn’t have a tackle. Conversely, McNamara was pressured on nine of his first 24 dropbacks and could never get comfortable in the pocket.

Any hopes of a Michigan comeback in the second half were finished after they turned the ball over on each of their opening possessions. Georgia’s Derion Kendrick intercepted McNamara’s pass in the end zone, and then Devonte Wyatt recovered Blake Corum‘s fumble at the Georgia 47.

The final score was 34-11 in favor of the Bulldogs, and they will try to forward that momentum into the national championship game on Jan. 10.

For Alabama to be successful, they’ll need to recreate their schemes from the SEC Championship Game and keep Bennett on his toes. When he is under pressure, don’t expect him to create plays out of thin air like the young quarterback on the opposite end of the field will be able to do.

Pressure will be a key in this game defensively for the Crimson Tide.

Most importantly, however, Alabama will need to limit the run game from Georgia, much as they did back on Dec. 4 when they held the Dawgs to just 3.6 yards per carry. If the Alabama defense can perform as they did in that one, expect much of the same result in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

One area of concern for the Tide will be making sure it has a game plan for two opposing quarterbacks. Kirby Smart might be more willing to swap Bennett out for JT Daniels in the title game than he was in the SEC Championship Game.

Alabama LB Will Anderson Jr will need to record another great performance in this one if the Tide defense wants to stay off the field.

The Alabama secondary has performed majestically throughout the last few weeks of the season. Locking down Georgia’s receivers will be another important key to winning No. 19.

You can catch the CFP National Championship Game on Dec. 10 at 7:00 p.m. CST on ESPN.

Stetson Bennett feeling it – hits Jermaine Burton for 57 yard score

Stetson Bennett is on FIRE

Stetson Bennett has silenced all of his doubters in the first half of tonight’s Orange Bowl.

He hit James Cook on an absolutely beautiful pass (see below tweet) and then followed it up with another one.

Here’s the pass to Cook on the prior drive that setup a field goal:

And then on the next drive, after a Michigan punt, Bennett did it again with a 57 yard score to Jermaine Burton to put UGA up 27-3 in the first half.

Kirby Smart updates Georgia QB situation

Stetson Bennett or J.T. Daniels? Kirby updates the QB situation ahead of CFP…

Georgia football is preparing for a clash with Michigan in the playoff semifinal at the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

Much of the pregame discussion is revolving around UGA’s quarterback situation, which has remained a hot topic throughout the season and especially after the Bulldogs 41-24 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

Stetson Bennett, who started 10 games for the Bulldogs after taking over for an injury-riddled J.T. Daniels, was intercepted twice by the Crimson Tide in Atlanta.

With two weeks of preparations left and both Bennett and Daniels healthy, questions are focused on if Georgia will make a quarterback change this postseason.

UGA coach Kirby Smart took a question on the current quarterback situation  in his Monday press conference.

“We don’t disclose that information, we just talk about who is doing their job and all four of those guys have been doing a tremendous job,” Smart said. “Brock (Vandagriff) has been doing a tremendous job giving us a good picture on the scout team end. Stetson (Bennett) and JT and really doing a good job simulating the offense that coach (Todd) Monken wants to do. Like I talk about all the time, we’re going to play the guy who gives us the best chance to win.”

Georgia quarterback JT Daniels (18) walks off the field after their 62 to 0 win against Vanderbilt at Vanderbilt Stadium Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 in Nashville, Tenn.

Daniels has been efficient when he’s seen the field this year, completing 68 of 94 passes (72.3%) for 722 yards with seven touchdowns to three interceptions.

The caveat is that Bennett has been comparatively equally efficient, and has added a threat with his legs.

Bennett has completed 148 of 231 passes (64.1%) for 2,325 yards with 24 touchdowns to seven interceptions, while adding another 251 yards on 45 attempts and a touchdown on the ground.

Tim Tebow critical of Georgia, Stetson Bennett after SEC championship

Tebow talks Bennett’s body language on Saturday and says UGA will need “elite quarterback play”

Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow, now an analyst with ESPN, had a lot to say about the Georgia Bulldogs’ effort in a loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game last Saturday.

After another Georgia loss to Alabama, Tebow said he think the Dawgs will need a “special performance” and “elite quarterback play” to recover from the loss.

“I think it’s going to take a special performance, it will take elite playmakers, or elite quarterback play to get over the hump,” Tebow said on the SEC Network.

Elite quarterback play was unfortunately not there for Georgia on Saturday. Stetson Bennett was 29/48 for 340 yards and three touchdowns. But he threw two very costly interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown. He struggled to connect with his receivers and was visibly frustrated numerous times.

“I think Nick Saban and his staff outcoached Kirby; (Bennett) and his receivers just weren’t on the same page all day long,” Tebow said. “Those two red zone opportunities in the third quarter (an interception and turnover on downs), that’s the game right there.”

Tebow noted Bennett’s body language as well. Making mention to how the quarterback would extend his arms and face his palms to the dome after another incompletion.

“How many times Stetson looks at them like this,” Tebow said with his palms facing up. “He did it to (James) Cook one time, he did it to Brock (Bowers) a couple of times.”

Tebow empathized with Georgia fans whose frustration levels are at an all-time high after a seventh straight loss to Alabama.

“It goes back to leadership, and it goes back to coaching,” Tebow said. “How many times can you have one of these (games).

You practiced all year for this moment,” Tebow said. “If I’m a Georgia fan, that’s what I’m a little disappointed in. I think that’s going to be something that really bothers Kirby.”

There’s still a chance that Bennett and Georgia can have another shot at Alabama if both teams win their playoff games. But if that happens, Georgia will have a lot of work to do if it even wants a chance.

“I think that Georgia’s still one of the best teams in the country. I thought they were going to believe it, and I still think they hope it,” said Tebow.

WATCH: DeMarcco Hellams gets a redzone interception to stop Georgia in their tracks

DeMarrco Hellams stops Georgia in their tracks!

Alabama is putting on a clinic in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia. They came in as the underdogs, and have yet to look the part in this big game.

The defense has been smothering this Georgia offense, and the Alabama offense is having no issues marching down the field against this “daunting” Bulldogs defense.

They hold a two-touchdown lead at 31-17 and will now have the ball back after a key interception by the Crimson Tide secondary.

Late in a Georgia drive that spanned 56 yards in a span of 6:20, Alabama DB DeMarcco Hellams intercepted the pass off Stetson Bennett that was intended to his tight end, Brock Bowers.
