The Pittsburgh Steelers activated defensive end Stephon Tuitt from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday.

Tuitt was placed on the list prior to kickoff on Wednesday and missed the Baltimore Ravens game.

An integral part of the Steelers dominant defense, Tuitt has 31 tackles (seven for loss) and a career-high seven sacks in 10 games. He’s also logged two forced fumbles and two pass defenses.

Stephon Tuitt with a little social media smack talk before Wednesday’s game

The Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman took to social media with a message before their game against the Baltimore Ravens.

You get the feeling that Wednesday afternoon’s tilt between the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers is going to be a bit chippy, as they say. Not only is this game between bitter rivals with division and playoff implications at stake, but as they like to say, “these teams just don’t like each other.”

Steelers defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt, who is out for Wednesday’s matchup due to his status on the COVID-19/Reserve list, did not shy away from the game, taking to social media with a little pregame message for his teammates:

Sometimes the idea of “bulletin board material” is overrated. But if such a thing does really exist in NFL locker room, the “should be an easy one” comment is sure to be noticed.

Everything Ben Roethlisberger and teammates said about perfect season

Big Ben, Minkah Fitzpatrick and other Steelers thoughts on goals for finishing season.

The Steelers want to go 1-0 every week, but they’ve also said their goal is not to go undefeated but to reach and win the Super Bowl.

Here are what some players have said about their perfect season, as they await Tuesday and another opportunity to go 1-0.

Steelers add 3 players to Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Baltimore Ravens aren’t the only ones dealing with an outbreak right now, as the Pittsburgh Steelers add 3 players to the COVID-19 list

While the Baltimore Ravens are certainly the big story right now, they’re far from the only team dealing with COVID-19. On the day in which the Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game was once again rescheduled, the Steelers placed three players of their own on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

According to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, Pittsburgh placed defensive ends Isaiah Buggs and Stephon Tuitt, and offensive lineman Jerald Hawkins on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. Baltimore also added four players to its Reserve/COVID-19 list, including quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Players that test positive for COVID-19 are held out a minimum of 10 days while those labeled as a “close contact” would be out for a minimum of five days. Though it’s unclear whether all three players tested positive or there’s a mix of positive tests and close contacts, all three players would be unable to play Tuesday night against the Ravens regardless.

Several teams around the league have seen players and staff members test positive for the coronavirus this week as the entire country sees an influx of cases. The Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos canceled their respective practices Friday due to positive tests while the Cleveland Browns have five players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

The most underrated defensive players through the first half of the 2020 NFL season

Every year, there are NFL players who perform well under the radar. Here are Touchdown Wire’s most underrated defensive players in 2020.

Though the best NFL players see their exploits magnified on a week-to-week basis, every season also sees those players who work very well under the radar, and do not get the attention their level of play deserves. If you’re a great player on a bad team, that can reduce your prominence. If you’re a low-drafted or undrafted younger player just coming into your own, it can take a second for everyone to catch up with how good you actually are. And if you’re coming back from a rough season or two, perhaps recency bias is not your friend.

That said, a number of underrated defensive players have caught our eye — enough to put a more than credible team on the field — and here’s the list: Touchdown Wire’s most underrated defensive players through the first half of the 2020 season.

Notre Dame in the NFL: Huge performances in big AFC game, Tate throws a pass and more

Plenty of former Notre Dame stars had big games for Pittsburgh (Claypool & Tuitt), Detroit (Okwara) and the Chargers (Tillery & Rochell).

Former Notre Dame stars had quite a week 8 in the NFL, highlighted by four former Irish alums making big plays in the huge AFC matchup between Pittsburgh and Baltimore. The Steelers left Baltimore undefeated, but that wasn’t due to the efforts from Miles Boykin. Find out which other former Notre Dame stars had big games this past week in the NFL.

Steelers vs. Ravens: 4 reasons for optimism

There are plenty of reasons to be hopeful about the upcoming Steelers-Ravens matchup.

The Steelers-Ravens rivalry has a respect-disrespect kind of relationship. A byproduct of said relationship is some of the fiercest football matchups of the last decade.

Tomorrow should be no different. It’ll be a strength versus strength, won-in-the-trenches kind of battle. Records and stats are thrown out the window when these two clubs meet.

Here are X reasons to be optimistic Sunday (and, yes, it includes records and stats… sue me).

Steelers DL Stephon Tuitt addresses critics on social media

Stephon Tuitt tells fans to just be patient.

When you are on a talented defense sometimes it is hard to stand out. This seems to be the situation Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt finds himself in. Yesterday was a day to celebrate after the Steelers pulled out a huge comeback win over the Houston Texans.

But for Tuitt, he chose to take to Instagram and defend his lack of production through three games.

There are a few reasons why Tuitt’s game falls under some scrutiny. First is his salary. Tuitt is the third highest-paid player on the team this season. Second is his injury history. Unfortunately, the injury bug has bitten Tuitt during his career so everyone watches him closely.

Another reason expectations are high for Tuitt is because this defense is so good. He’s returning to a group that was arguably one of the best in the NFL last season and to a defensive line that needs him after the exit of Javon Hargrave.

Personally, I think Tuitt has played pretty well. The first two weeks the Steelers blitzed so much he really didn’t have the opportunities to make plays but through three games he still has two sacks and eight quarterback hits. Tuitt’s time is coming this season when he is the guy who steals the highlights.

How a healthy Stephon Tuitt can help the Steelers defense

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a top-rated defense in 2019. A healthy Stephon Tuitt can only make it better.

Stephon Tuitt was a force to be reckoned with in 2019. Then Week 6 happened.

Five seasons in, Tuitt was having a career year when he tore his pec and was placed on injured reserve.

With a grade of 85, Pro Football Focus ranked the defensive lineman as the fourth-highest pass rusher among interior defenders through Week 6. Before his season-ending injury, he had racked up four sacks, 18 tackles (six for loss) and seven quarterback hits.

Heading into 2020, PFF lists Tuitt as the 11th-best IDL in the league.

Before going down injured last season, Tuitt was on course for a career year to match the rest of that Pittsburgh defensive line. His 89.1 overall PFF grade through six games is the best mark of his career, and he had at least one pressure in every game before going down. Tuitt has shown elite play against the run and the pass but had yet to put them together in the same season. If he can find that key in 2020, he will be one of the best 10 interior defenders and a true impact-return for the Steelers given the departure of Hargrave in free agency.

If he can put together a stellar season versus the pass and the run (which he has yet to do), the Steelers defense could be even better than they were in 2019.
