Steelers QB Russell Wilson works out with old teammate, internet goes wild

Could a reunion between Russell Wilsona and DK Metcalf coming soon?

On Wednesday, a video surfaced on X, formerly Twitter of new Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson working out with wide receiver DK Metcalf. Wilson and Metcalf were teammates in Seattle from 2019-2021 and both saw their best seasons when they played on the same team.

Metcalf is one of the many top wide receivers mentioned in rumors and reports and a potential trade target for the Steelers. This is along with Sand Francisco 49ers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel along with Denver Broncos Courtland Sutton.

In just looking over the replies to the post above, you can see fans are going to want to make this into something. This is a product of fans just so desperate to see the Steelers add more talent at wide receiver. The team has gone to such great lengths to improve this offseason, coming up short because of one position.

For all the talk of Aiyuk, adding Metcalf might be the best option. His relationship with Wilson and chemistry gives him a leg up on any other potential trade target and his ability to just take over football games pairs well with the big-play ability of George Pickens.

Titans WR Treylon Burks might be the bargain trade the Steelers need

The Steelers might be out of the market for an elite receiver but there are still options out there like Treylon Burks.

With each passing week, it seems less and less likely the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to work a blockbuster trade for a wide receiver like Brandon Aiyuk. With the cost of top-tier wide receivers going up astronomically this offseason, it could be enough to scare off the front office from getting strapped to a massive contract.

However, it doesn’t mean the Steelers still can’t make a trade for a former first-round pick and hopefully get their other starting receiver while helping that player get a once-promising career on track.

That receiver is Tennessee Titans wideout Treylon Burks. Burks entered the league in 2022 after a great career at the University of Arkansas. Through two seasons, Burks only has 49 receptions for 665 yards. Some of that had to do with inconsistent quarterback play, some with a poor scheme fit and some of it had to do with Burks.

But the Steelers could be the perfect spot for Burks to get his career on track. The team has a new offensive system, an exceptional wide receivers coach in Zach Azzanni and the quarterback room is full of veteran leadership. A deal for Burks couldn’t cost the Steelers much in terms of draft capital and he is not going to be demanding a massing contract the second he’s on the team.

WR Brandon Aiyuk says the Niners don’t want him back

Would the Steelers make a trade for Brandon Aiyuk?

Oh boy, this one is a dandy.

We all know that the name most associated with a trade for the Pittsburgh Steelers is San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. He’s the guy most of Steeler Nation covets over other options like Deebo Samuel and Courtland Sutton.

Now Aiyuk has just stoked the fires with this latest video floating around social media. In the video, Aiyuk is talking to his friend and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and told him that the Niners told Aiyuk they don’t want him back.

The Steelers have gone to great lengths to improve the offense but being minus another starting-caliber receiver would put this improved group behind their peers. So why not make the trade?

It’s not about trade compensation. General Manager Omar Khan hasn’t been shy about making dramatic moves and frankly, the Niners are losing leverage in a trade the longer this drags on, so no concerns there.

The rub is that next contract. We have seen elite wide receivers resetting the market with massive contracts this offseason and Aiyuk is going to want that kind of money. We are talking $30 million per year for a wide receiver and I’m not sure this is something the Steelers front office is willing to do.
