Twitter reacts to Shad Khan’s statement on Urban Meyer bar video

Twitter had a lot to say about Khan’s statement on the Meyer controversy.

Things just seem to get worse and worse for the 0-4 Jaguars. Following a heartbreaking loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Thursday Night Football, head coach Urban Meyer opted not to fly back on the team plane to, according to him, spend time with his grandkids and friends (who he had dinner with).

However, video from the night emerged showing a woman dancing on Meyer at a bar, and a second video later released shows him appearing to touch her below the waist.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Meyer said he spoke with both the team and owner Shad Khan (as well as his family) to apologize. However, on Tuesday, Khan released a statement outlining the expectations for Meyer from here on out.

I have addressed this matter with Urban. Specifics of our conversation will be held in confidence. What I will say is his conduct last weekend was inexcusable. I appreciate Urban’s remorse, which I believe is sincere. Now, he must regain our trust and respect. That will require a personal commitment from Urban to everyone who supports, represents or plays for our team. I am confident he will deliver.

Let’s just say that Twitter didn’t exactly hold back in response to the statement. Here’s what some folks had to say about it.

‘I sucked today, not my equipment’: Bryson DeChambeau issues apology after viral British Open interview

DeChambeau acknowledged that his post-round comments were unprofessional and driven by frustration and emotion.

Bryson DeChambeau’s game off the tee in Thursday’s opening round of the British Open wasn’t pretty. His post-round comments got uglier and the response to those comments? Uglier still.

After DeChambeau blamed his stray driving – which drove his score up to a 1-over 71 at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, England – on his feeling that “the driver sucks,” his equipment sponsor Cobra was not particularly happy.

“If I can hit it down the middle of the fairway, that’s great, but with the driver right now, the driver sucks,” DeChambeau said after a round in which he hit only four fairways. “It’s not a good face for me, and we’re still trying to figure out how to make it good on the mis-hits. I’m living on the razor’s edge, like I’ve told people for a long time.”

Hours later, DeChambeau had posted an apology on social media. It came after Ben Schomin, Cobra’s tour operations manager, spoke to Golfweek about how DeChambeau’s words stung considering how much work goes into manufacturing a club that fits DeChambeau’s wicked swing speed.

In the statement, which appeared on Instagram, DeChambeau acknowledged that his comments were unprofessional and driven by frustration and emotion.

“I sucked today, not my equipment,” DeChambeau wrote.

He also acknowledged that Cobra is like family after working with the company for more than five years and expressed deep regret at the words he had used.

The full statement is as follows:

After his opening round of 71, DeChambeau is tied for 74th.

The official statement from the team following the DWI charge filed against former OLB coach Britt Reid.

The Kansas City Chiefs have released a statement this afternoon as former OLB coach Britt Reid, son of head coach Andy Reid, was formally charged with felony DWI by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. The charges against Britt stem from Feb. 4th crash, which left 5-year-old Ariel Young critically injured.

Check out the statement from the team down below:

“The Kansas City Chiefs organization remains steadfast in our concern for all who have been impacted by this tragic accident. Our prayers are focused on Ariel’s continued healing and recovery. The Chiefs are regularly in contact with the family’s designated representative during this challenging time.”

This statement echoes previous statements from the team, including that from Andy Reid, speaking to the media after Super Bowl LV.

“My heart goes out to all those involved in the accident, in particular the family with the little girl fighting for her life,” Reid told reporters after the game. “I can’t comment on it any more than I am here, so the questions you have, I am going to have to turn those down at the time. Lions have no new positive COVID-19 results on Wednesday, outdoor practice scheduled without identified coaches

The Detroit Lions announced they have no new positive COVID-19 results on Wednesday, and an outdoor practice is scheduled for the afternoon without contact tracing identified coaches.

The Detroit Lions had two positive COVID-19 results on Tuesday — one player and one coach — and were forced to close their Allen park practice facilities. Today, the team announced that they had no new positive COVID-19 results and were proceeding with an afternoon outdoor practice.

Unfortunately, due to contact tracing, several of the Lions coaching staff have been identified as close contact exposures — including interim coach Darrell Bevell, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport — and will stay away from the training facility, meeting only virtually with the team.

The Lions released the following statement:

This morning our COVID-19 test results yielded no new positive tests. As a result of the contact tracing process, several coaches will remain away from the team facility until further notice. We anticipate conducting an outdoor practice this afternoon and our players and coaches will continue to meet virtually this morning.

As of now, the Lions still appear to be on schedule to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. EST. On a short week, today’s practice will be their second of the week, with the third and final practice taking place on Thursday.

Stay tuned to Lions Wire for more updates on this situation as it continues to unfold.

Seahawks announce no fans allowed at next 2 games at Lumen Field

The Seattle Seahawks have announced no fans will be allowed at the next two games at Lumen Field due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

The Seattle Seahawks had hoped to have fans in the stands at some point during the 2020 NFL season but that may not be the case. Based on the recent surge of COVID-19 cases around the country and the Seattle area, the team made the difficult decision to announce Lumen Field would remain empty for at least the next two home games.

“Due to the current case counts of COVID-19 in our state, we will continue playing without fans in attendance at our home games on Dec. 6 (vs. N.Y. Giants) and Dec. 13 (vs. N.Y. Jets),” the statement reads. “We are continuing to work closely with local public health and government officials and are committed to following their lead to keep our community safe. We will keep fans informed as decisions are made for our Dec. 27 home game and beyond. We continue to urge all fans to remain vigilant with physical distancing, mask wearing and following all local guidelines.”

The Seahawks will square off against the Eagles in Philadelphia this Monday night in yet another prime-time appearance.

49ers G.M. John Lynch issues statement on trading Kwon Alexander to Saints

The New Orleans Saints traded for San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander, who 49ers general manager John Lynch described as a leader.

[jwplayer 1lHFzE29-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints made their first and maybe only move ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 3 by acquiring San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander, who should add a ton of athleticism and starting experience to their defense.

And according to 49ers general manager John Lynch, Alexander is also bringing an impressive strength of character and leadership qualities with him.

“Kwon’s time with our team might not have been long but it was very impactful,” Lynch said in a statement from the team. “A tremendous teammate, his non-stop motor, ferocious play and selfless nature helped establish a standard for our locker room that will carry on. On behalf of the entire organization, I want to wish Kwon all the best and think him for all of his contributions to our team.”

It’s quite an endorsement, but it was well-earned. Alexander played a critical role in changing the 49ers defense’s mindset on defense, and he remains popular with the coaching staff despite the time he’s missed with injuries. Maybe he can pull a similar move with helping the Saints defenders get their swagger back.

Bob Quinn, Matt Patricia make statements on Taylor Decker extension

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia made statements on left tackle Taylor Decker’s contract extension.

On Tuesday the Detroit Lions and Taylor Decker agreed to a contract extension that would keep the left tackle in Detroit through the 2024 season.

This morning, coach Matt Patricia spoke about Decker at his morning press conference and had the following to say:

I’ve just seen so much growth in him over the last couple years in his ability to get better at the position, just be more consistent, his technique, his leadership is outstanding, the way that he approaches every single day. He’s just been a really consistent guy for us on the offensive line. I would say his overall football knowledge has just really increased with the different types of looks and protections, blitz packages that they see on the offensive line, the run game, just overall improvement by him each year.

I think he’s having a great camp; I think he’s working really hard. He’s been the same guy every day. I just couldn’t be any happier for him in general with his development as a player and obviously everything that goes along with that for his future.

I think he’s just an intricate part of what we’re trying to do and what we’re trying to be about. Every day I get a chance to work with him (and) it’s been great. I’m really excited about that. I’m excited about all of it. But I would say that the improvement he’s made over the last couple years – and with the coaching changes and head coaching changes and all the rest of it, you just see the growth and development that he’s had.

You always want to do everything you can to raise your own and reward your own. Certainly, Taylor has done an awesome job for us.

Once the agreement became official, Quinn issued a statement:

Since the day we drafted him, Taylor has dedicated himself to our program and has developed into an important piece of our offense. As one of our team captains, he sets a great example for every player in our locker room. This extension is a reflection of all of Taylor’s hard work, and we are incredibly excited to come to this agreement and continue to work with Taylor for years to come. I also want to thank Taylor and his representatives for their work in making this extension a reality.
