Video from Las Vegas brawl allegedly involving Alvin Kamara, 3 others

Video emerged from a Las Vegas brawl allegedly involving Alvin Kamara and three others in an ongoing battery case

Surveillance video has emerged from a Las Vegas brawl allegedly involving Alvin Kamara in an ongoing battery case, per 8 News’ David Chairns. Kamara’s next court date is scheduled for March 2 after he and three others were indicted last week by a grand jury. Kamara is also facing a civil suit  from the victim seeking $10 million in damages in New Orleans.

This isn’t a new video, but it is much cleaner and easier to follow than the grainy copy shared online in the past.

Kamara will likely be suspended six games as a violation of the NFL personal conduct policy regardless of whether he is found guilty or not; that’s the precedent the league has set in the past. But no discipline will be handed down until after the legal process has concluded. Either way, the Saints should be preparing for an extended absence in the fall.

Latest update from Alvin Kamara’s Las Vegas battery case

A Las Vegas battery case for Saints running back Alvin Kamara and several others was delayed yet again, making a 2022 suspension unlikely — but not impossible:

A Las Vegas battery case for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara and three others, including Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Chis Lammons, was delayed yet again, making a 2022 suspension unlikely but not impossible for the five-time Pro Bowler.

8 News Now’s David Charns reported from court proceedings in Nevada on Thursday, Sept. 29, where Kamara and the other defendants in the case were not required to attend. The case has been delayed yet again with a dozen lawyers involved in negotiations — both sides will regroup on Nov. 9, two days after Kamara’s Monday night game with the Baltimore Ravens. The Saints have a road game with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 13, so this shouldn’t factor into Kamara’s availability even if he is required to attend the court date.

The more frequently this case is stretched out, the lower chances become for a suspension during the 2022 season. With few exceptions, the NFL’s standard process has been to wait on a legal resolution before handing down disciplinary fines or suspensions. So if this continues to drag out, and it appears that it will, any suspension Kamara may eventually receive could be delayed until 2023. For now, it’s not much to worry about.

Alvin Kamara could face 6-game suspension after Las Vegas arrest

Alvin Kamara could face 6-game suspension after Las Vegas arrest, per NFL personal conduct policy:

[mm-video type=video id=01fvba9pyfypgkhf0wpv playlist_id=01eqbyahgz6p2j3xp7 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fvba9pyfypgkhf0wpv/01fvba9pyfypgkhf0wpv-71e6a7d8f83dc3d0644d5744a092f38f.jpg]

This situation with Alvin Kamara isn’t looking any better by the day. After being arrested in Las Vegas — picked up by police at Allegiant Stadium following the Pro Bowl — and released from custody upon posting bail, the next step is considering whether the New Orleans Saints running back will face any league discipline in addition to, you know, legal penalties.

It’s important to note that Kamara has not yet been charged with a crime. He was booked in on suspicion of battery causing substantial physical harm; police say the victim was diagnosed with a fractured orbital bone which may require surgery. The courts will circle back to this investigation in March and choose how to proceed. If formally charged and convicted of this, a felony in Nevada, it would carry a mandatory $10,000 fine and sentencing of between one and five years in prison.

But the NFL can choose to suspend Kamara for at least six games regardless of what the courts decide. The league office will conduct its own independent investigation to determine whether Kamara’s conduct violated the league personal conduct policy, which says of violent offenses including assault and battery, “a first offense will subject the offender to a baseline suspension without pay of six games, with consideration given to any aggravating or mitigating factors.”

So that’s obviously not great. The Saints fielded the worst offense in the NFL last year when Kamara missed time with an injury — he’s quite literally their best player regardless of position. If they don’t make some big investments at the skills positions in the months ahead, they risk starting the Dennis Allen with more of the same stale offense that defined Sean Payton’s last year in New Orleans.

On the other hand, there’s some precedent for a different suspension here than that six-game baseline. As observed by Amy Dash at League of Justice, Antonio Brown was suspended eight games not too long ago stemming from battery charges on a truck driver. On the other end of the spectrum, Tyreek Hill was not suspended after an investigation into alleged battery on his son resulted in no criminal charges. It’s possible Kamara ultimately dodges a suspension, depending on how this investigation turns out. It’s just too early to say anything definitively.

However, we know the stakes involved. We know what’s at risk. Seeing Kamara miss the first month or two of the 2022 season due to something so easily avoidable would be tough to swallow. For now, all we can do is wait and watch to see what happens next.

Browns DT Malik McDowell arrested on aggravated battery in Florida

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Malik McDowell has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery and other charges in Florida.

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Malik McDowell was arrested on Monday on suspicion of two felonies – aggravated battery on an officer and resisting an officer with violence – and the misdemeanor crime of public exposure, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, who first reported the story.

McDowell is no stranger to the criminal justice system, having had numerous run-ins with law enforcement in the past.

Cleveland.com was able to obtain a police report of the latest incident, which was alleged to have occurred in Deerfield Park, FL. Per the report:

A Broward County Sherriff’s officer responded to a report of a naked male walking near a school on Monday afternoon. When the officer arrived, he observed McDowell sitting on a curb. The report states McDowell charged at the officer at full speed with a closed fist and the officer was unable to avoid the attack or use non-lethal or de-escalation tactics.

The officer wrote in the report he was dazed by punches which he described as being “swung with extreme aggression.”

Following the altercation, the report states McDowell fled and was tasered after a brief pursuit on foot and handcuffed.

The Brows have already issued a statement acknowledging the team’s awareness of the ongoing situation and are attempting to gather more information.

McDowell was originally selected by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft out of Michigan State but never played a snap for Seattle. The defensive tackle sustained a head injury in an ATV accident the summer before his rookie season and was eventually released in 2019.

He was signed to a one-year deal with Cleveland in 2021 and logged 30 tackles, three sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed in 15 games played for the Browns this season.

NFL suspends wide receiver Antonio Brown for 8 games

Free-agent, wide receiver Antonio Brown has been suspended by the NFL for the first eight games of the 2020 season.

As was expected for several months now, embattled free agent wide receiver Antonio Brown has been officially suspended by the NFL.

First reported by the Washington Post’s Robert Klemko, the league handed Brown a lofty eight-game suspension due to violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Brown had recently pleaded no contest to battery charges against a truck driver in Florida, which landed him a lengthy probation sentence.

Now the league has weighed in with its own judgment on the matter.

Unfortunately for Brown, this may not be the end of discipline from the NFL. The legal buck doesn’t stop with the battery charges, as Brown still faces a sexual misconduct lawsuit.

This very well could be the final nail in the coffin of what was a Hall of Fame-caliber career for Brown. A free agent since last September, Brown was linked to Seattle as a potential landing spot and was even seen working out with quarterback Russell Wilson. Now that he is suspended, any chatter about him coming to Seattle will likely be put to bed for good.

With his legal issues, volatile personality, and now a suspension that will likely last at least half the 2020 season, Brown is far too toxic for any team to sign. If he is signed, it will be by a desperate team late in the year.

Of course, none of this might even matter for Brown as he apparently retired from the league . . . for a second time. Although, given his recent track record, it’s hard to say for certain if he will want to stay that way.

Vinny Paz receives suspended sentence in Providence assault case

Vinny Paz has pleaded no contest in an assault and battery case that had been hanging over his head for nearly two years.

Vinny Paz won’t have to think about a lingering legal issue during the holidays.

The former lightweight titleholder has pleaded no contest in an assault and battery case that had been hanging over his head for nearly two years. Paz, a native of Cranston, Rhode Island,  received a one-year suspended sentence with probation on each count, according to The Boston Globe.

Paz allegedly attacked Providence resident Nathaniel Lavoie, sending him to the hospital late on the night of  Jan. 1, 2018. Lanvoie reportedly suffered multiple injuries, including broken teeth, a black eye and several bite marks.

At the time of the incident, Paz justified his actions. He told Providence police that Lanvoie had stolen $16,000 from his home..

‘Bottom line is, I got robbed. And when that happens, you gotta do what you gotta do,’’ Paz told WPRI-TV.

This isn’t Paz’s first run-in with the law. He pleaded no contest to drunk driving in 2007 and pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct in 2012. In 2018, he was arrested again for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. That case was settled with a one-year suspended sentence and probation.

Paz, one of the most popular fighters to come out of New England, was the subject of the 2016 Hollywood film “Bleed For This.” He was played by Miles Teller.

Florida middle school football coach faces charges for slamming student against wall for not wearing shirt

A Florida middle school football coach is facing charges that he allegedly slammed one of his players into a wall after the player refused to wear a shirt after a recent game.

A Florida middle school football coach is suddenly facing charges against he allegedly slammed one of his players into a wall when the teen in question refused to put on shirt following a game.

As reported by Orlando ABC affiliate WFTV, Seminole County Millenium Middle School physical education teacher and football coach became entangled in a physical altercation with one of his students when the middle schooler refused to leave the locker room wearing a shirt after a football game.

The 56-year-old Michael Henry apparently tried to force the player to wear a shirt by blocking the door for his exit, leading the player to bump into his head coach to try and force his way out. That inspired the coach to grab him and violently slam him into a wall, leading both to crash to the ground and the teen to develop a small bump on his head.
