Instant Analysis: LSU baseball gets back in the win column against Southeastern Louisiana

After losing two out of three games to Florida last weekend, the LSU Tigers needed a pick-me-up.

After losing two out of three games to Florida last weekend, the LSU Tigers needed a pick-me-up. They got that with an 8-4 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday night.

LSU scored first in the bottom of the first inning when [autotag]Brady Neal[/autotag] scored on an RBI single by [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] to make it 1-0 Tigers.

In the top of the second inning, SLU took the lead by scoring two runs against [autotag]Sam Dutton[/autotag] to chase him from the game. In the bottom of the inning, LSU took the lead back as the Tigers put up four runs. [autotag]Mac Bingham[/autotag] hit a solo homer, [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] scored on an RBI groundout, and White hit a two-run homer to give LSU a 6-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, LSU scored three more runs as [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit a two-run homer and [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] scored on a fielder’s choice to make the score 8-2 LSU.

In the top of the eighth inning, Southeastern hit a solo shot in the eighth and ninth innings to cut the lead to 8-4 but that was as close as they could get. LSU will now prepare to travel to Fayetteville to take on the No. 1 Arkansas Razorbacks this weekend.

LSU baseball escapes with a win against Southeastern Louisiana

With the win, LSU moves to 12-1 this season.

After going 4-0 last weekend and being crowned champions of the Astros Foundation Classic. LSU had a bit of a break before traveling to Hammond, Louisiana to take on the Southeastern Louisiana Lions on Wednesday.

[autotag]Kade Anderson[/autotag] got the start on the mound once again and he was efficient. Anderson finished the game after pitching five innings and giving up one unearned run on two hits, 13 strikeouts and two walks.

LSU scored the first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning when [autotag]Mac Bingham[/autotag] hit an RBI single to score [autotag]Stephen Milam[/autotag] to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. After an error in the outfield in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lions scored a run on an RBI groundout to tie the game 1-1.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lions would score another run courtesy of an RBI double to left field to give SLU a 2-1 lead as we headed to the eighth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, the Lions tacked on another run to increase their lead to 3-1.

In the top of the ninth inning, with two outs, [autotag]Ethan Frey[/autotag] hit an RBI double to left-center field to cut the lead to 3-2. [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] then stepped into the batter’s box and hit a two-RBI double to left field to give LSU a 4-3 lead.

[autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag] then entered the game to try to earn the save. He struck out the side to secure a 4-3 victory for LSU. With the win, LSU moves to 12-1 this season. The Tigers will host Xavier for a three-game set this weekend at The Box.

Instant Analysis: LSU men’s basketball holds on to take down Southeastern

The Tigers moved to 5-3 on the season Friday night, but it sure wasn’t pretty.

Southeastern entered Friday night’s game against LSU sitting at 2-5 on the year and looking for its first win over a Division I opponent, but it gave the Tigers all they could handle at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Coach Matt McMahon’s team escaped with a 73-66 win, but it wasn’t pretty. It trailed for much of the first half, though it pulled away to a seven-point lead at halftime.

It looked like the Tigers were going to put the game away for good, leading by as much as 15 in the final 20 minutes, but they never managed to put the Lions away.

After shooting 60.9% in the first half, LSU’s rate dropped to 36.4% in the second. It was also plagued by offensive sloppiness, turning it over 17 times in total and 11 in the second half.

[autotag]Will Baker[/autotag] was his usual self with 18 points, and [autotag]Jordan Wright[/autotag] and [autotag]Mike Williams III[/autotag] also had strong offensive performances with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Overall, however, the offense was far more inconsistent than McMahon would like to see.

LSU didn’t make a field goal in the final 6:56 of the game, and it had to rely heavily on its defense, which held Southeastern under 40% shooting for the game and under 30% in the second half, to get key stops down the stretch and maintain the lead.

The Tigers got the win to move to 5-3, but it was far from an encouraging performance, especially with some tough games yet to come in non-conference play.

Next up for LSU is a Kansas State team that is coming off an Elite Eight appearance. The Tigers will have eight days to work out the kinks before that game on Dec. 9.

NEW: Kim Mulkey addresses Angel Reese’s absence in win at Southeastern Louisiana

Kim Mulkey affirmed that Angel Reese is still with the team but did not provide further details.

LSU women’s basketball cruised to another win on Friday night on the road in Hammond against Southeastern Louisiana, earning a 73-50 win.

It did so without star forward [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag], who was not with the team for the game after she was benched in the second half of Sunday’s win over Kent State. Coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] addressed the situation after the game, affirming that Reese is still with the team but declining to provide further details.

“You want me to explain why? It’s very obvious Angel was not in uniform, Angel is a part of this basketball team, and we hope you see her sooner than later,” she said.

Mulkey declined to provide further explanation.

“That’s all you all need to know,” she said.

Reese’s status with the team will certainly be something to monitor as LSU prepares to host Texas Southern on Monday.

Instant Analysis: No Angel Reese, no problem as LSU women’s basketball rolls past Southeastern Louisiana

Flau’Jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow stepped up in Angel Reese’s absence Friday night.

Even without star forward [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag], who was absent on Friday night, LSU had no issues dispatching an in-state opponent in its first true road game of the year as it beat Southeastern Louisiana 73-50 in Hammond, the home town of coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag].

LSU’s offense took a bit of a hit in this one, shooting just 41.3% for the game. [autotag]Flau’Jae Johnson[/autotag] stepped up in Reese’s absence, leading the team with 17 points despite coming off the bench. [autotag]Hailey Van Lith[/autotag], [autotag]Mikaylah Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Aneesah Morrow[/autotag] all also scored in double figures in the game.

It was a good defensive performance for the Tigers, who held the Lions under 40% shooting and forced 18 total turnovers. LSU dominated the boards, outrebounding SELA 41-23. Morrow led the way with 10, notching a double-double.[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”dW5kZWZpbmVk”][/anyclip-media]

We’ll await news regarding Reese’s status, but for now, LSU will enjoy the win before it returns home to host Texas Southern on Monday night.

BREAKING: LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese not with team for game against Southeastern Louisiana

Angel Reese missed the second half of the win over Kent State in what Kim Mulkey called a “coach’s decision.”

LSU’s women’s basketball team looks to extend its winning streak as it faces its first true road game against Southeastern Louisiana, but it will have to do so without star forward [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag].

Reese is not with the team for the game for undisclosed reasons. Coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] will reportedly address her absence after the game. This comes after Reese missed the second half of Sunday’s win over Kent State in what Mulkey called a “coach’s decision.”

Reese led the Tigers to the first national championship in program history last season, being named the NCAA Tournament’s Most Oustanding Player for her efforts.

We will keep you posted on any news after the game regarding Reese’s status with the team moving forward.

How to watch as No. 7 LSU women’s basketball travels to face Southeastern Louisiana in first road game Friday night

The Tigers look to continue their winning streak as they face their first true road opponent on Friday night.

LSU has responded nicely since a disappointing loss to open the season, and with several other teams in the top 10 taking losses of their own, the Tigers could soon find themselves moving back up the rankings next week.

First, though, coach Kim Mulkey’s team has to take care of business as it hits the road for its first true road game of the season as it travels to Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana on Friday night.

The Lions are 2-1 on the year having beaten Millsaps and Southern-New Orleans, but they fell 67-46 in their only game against a ranked opponent in Mississippi State. LSU is hoping for a similar result on the road.

Here’s everything you need to know to follow Friday night’s game.

How to watch as No. 1 LSU baseball travels to face Southeastern Louisiana in Tuesday night battle

The Tigers will look to snap a two-game midweek losing streak against the Lions in Hammond.

LSU is coming off back-to-back sweeps in conference play, but coach Jay Johnson’s team will be looking to end a streak it’s less proud of on Tuesday night.

The Tigers baseball team has dropped back-to-back midweek contests against Louisiana and Nicholls, and now they’ll look to get back in the non-conference win column for the first time in three weeks.

To do so, LSU (35-8) will make the trip to Hammond, Louisiana, on Tuesday night for a midweek contest against Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions enter this one with a losing record at 19-21, and they sit at just 4-11 in Southland play.

SELA has had some success against the SEC this season, however, taking two out of three games in a weekend series at Auburn earlier this season. LSU will hope to avoid a similar result on the road on Tuesday night.

Here’s everything you need to know as LSU looks to end a two-game midweek losing streak.

Update: Due to technical difficulties, the game will not be streamed via ESPN+. You can still listen to the game on the radio.

Bombs away in Baton Rouge as LSU mercy-rules Southeastern Louisiana

The Tigers claimed a 17-3 win in a game that ended after the top of the seventh.

Southeastern Louisiana is not The Gap Band, but it definitely felt like LSU dropped a bomb on it Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium.

The Tigers beat the Lions 17-3 in a game that was called after the top of the seventh, and things are looking good heading into the second-to-last SEC series against Ole Miss this weekend.

Unlike Texas every fall, [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] is actually back for the Tigers, and he got the party started in the bottom of the first inning with a solo homer to left field to make it 1-0.

The Lions struck back with a solo homer of their own in the top of the second to tie the game 1-1 before LSU took the lead for good in the bottom of the second with a [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, everything fell apart like Post Malone for Southeastern Louisiana as LSU scored nine runs. Dugas started the rally once again, this time with a two-RBI single to score [autotag]Tyler McManus[/autotag] and [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] to make it 4-1.

[autotag]Collier Cranford[/autotag] then scored on a [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] groundout to make it 5-1. [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single that scored Pearson and Dugas to make it 7-1.

[autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] hit a two-RBI double that scored Doughty and Morgan to make it 9-1. McManus hit an RBI single to score Jobert and Thompson scored on a fielder’s choice to make it 11-1 LSU after four innings.

In the top of the fifth, the Lions hit a two-run homer off [autotag]Bryce Collins[/autotag] to make it 11-3 but that is all the damage they could do. In the top of the sixth inning, [autotag]Blake Money[/autotag] came out of the bullpen to pitch for the Tigers, take that as you may.Ā  Money has been the No. 2 starter for most of the season, but after a few rough outings, maybe he’s gone to the pen to get his swagger back.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tiger bats came alive again as LSU reeled off six more runs. McManus hit an RBI double to score Jobert. Pearson and Crews both walked with bases loaded and Morgan hit a three-RBI double to make it 17-3.

With the win, LSU moves to 33-15 (14-10 SEC) on the season, boasting a 25-6 record at The Box. Hopefully, LSU can add some more wins to that home record this weekend as they welcome the Rebels into town for a weekend series. The first game is scheduled for Friday night at 7:30 p.m. CT.
