Watch: Patriots RB Sony Michel jukes pair of defenders

Former Georgia Bulldogs running back Sony Michel has looked good so far for the New England Patriots this preseason.

Former Georgia Bulldogs running back Sony Michel has looked good so far for the New England Patriots this preseason. Michel battled a quad injury and missed time last season. Michel finished with only 449 rushing yards in 2020, but averaged an impressive 5.7 yards per carry.

Michel is a key player for the New England Patriots. If he can stay healthy, the Patriots should have one of the better stables of running backs in the NFL.

Michel turned heads against the Philadelphia Eagles with some moves after he hauled in a pass from quarterback Mac Jones.

Michel can still stop on a dime and accelerate quickly. He’s a lock to make New England’s roster.

Michel and New England dominated Philadelphia in a 35-0 victory. Michel finished with seven rushes for 34 yards and hauled in four passes for 37 yards.

The Patriots have a very talented backfield that has looked strong throughout the preseason. Former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Damien Harris, the expected starter, scored a touchdown early in the contest.

Rhamondre Stevenson, New England’s fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma,  followed his impressive preseason debut with a two touchdown performance against the Eagles. Lastly, J.J. Taylor had 12 carries for 93 rushing yards and scored a touchdown.

Report: Patriots RB Sony Michel placed on IR

Former Georgia Bulldogs running back and current New England Patriots RB Sony Michel may be placed on Injured Reserve with a quad injury.

Former Georgia Bulldogs running back Sony Michel has been placed on Injured Reserve with a quad injury. Michel is a key player for the New England Patriots. In fact, he had his first 100 yard game of the season last week against the Oakland Raiders.

The IR this season is only three weeks long, so teams have more flexibility than in previous seasons. Fortunately for Michel, the injury is not expected to be season-ending.

Michel was already expected to miss tonight’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Damien Harris is expected to play tonight after missing several games to start the NFL season. Harris should assume some of Michel’s carries.

Rex Burkhead, J.J. Taylor, and James White will takeover some of Michel’s additional carries in his absence. The Patriots will be without Cam Newton when they face Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news of Michel’s quad injury:

Patriots remove RB Sony Michel from PUP list

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel has left the physically unable to perform list after undergoing foot surgery.

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel has been removed from the physically unable to perform list after spending a stint on it this summer. Michel is projected to be New England’s starting running back this season.

Michel, a former Georgia Bulldog, underwent foot surgery this offseason. He has already dealt with knee and ankle injuries in his career.

If Sony Michel remained on the PUP/reserve list he would had to sit out for a minimum of the first six weeks of the 2020 season. Despite being removed from the PUP list, Sony Michel’s situation worth monitoring for Patriot and Bulldog fans.

The Patriots open their season Sept. 13 at home against the Miami Dolphins. Michel will look to improve following a solid second NFL season, where he accumulated 912 rushing yards.

Michel fully participated in practice and appeared to be in good shape. That’s great news for New England fans who have seen their fair share of changes this offseason.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news of Michel’s return from the PUP list.

Beyond Sony Michel, the Patriots also have Rex Burkhead, Lamar Miller, Damien Harris, James White and J.J. Taylor at the running back position. Their running back position battle will be interesting to watch due to the depth of talent they have at the position.

Sony Michel could miss the first six games of the 2020 NFL season

NFL analyst Michael Lombardi predicts that Patriots RB Sony Michel will miss the first half of the 2020 NFL season on the PUP/reserve list.

NFL analyst and former New England Patriots executive Michael Lombardi predicted on his podcast Wednesday that Patriots running back Sony Michel will remain on the physically unable to perform list through the summer.

Michel underwent foot surgery this offseason and he has already dealt with knee and ankle injuries in his career.

“I think Sony Michel is probably destined for PUP/reserve,” said Lombardi. “I think he’ll probably miss the first half of the season. I don’t think there’s any chance they’re going to rush him back. With his ankle, I think that train is gonna take a little bit of time to get out of the station.”

If Michel is placed on the PUP/reserve list he would have to sit out for at least the first six weeks of the 2020 season.

The Patriots signed running back Lamar Miller this week, potentially in preparation for the absence of Michel. They will also have Rex Burkhead, Damien Harris, James White and J.J. Taylor at the running back position.
