Broncos send perfect tweet after Tom Brady’s announcement

The Broncos wish Tom Brady well, unless he ends up in the AFC West.

Patriots pending free agent quarterback Tom Brady announced Tuesday that he will not be returning to New England this fall. Brady will become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday and he’s set to join a new team.

The Broncos’ social media team posted a perfect response to the news on Twitter.

“We’ve had some great battles against you over the years,
@TomBrady,” the team tweeted. “Best of luck wherever your football journey takes you next — unless it’s in the AFC West 😉.”

The Buccaneers have made Brady a strong offer but they are not the only team interested in the accomplished quarterback. The Chargers are also expected to make a push for Brady.

If Brady lands in Los Angeles with the Chargers, he would play against Denver twice a year. If he lands in Tampa Bay, Brady would play against the Broncos once this season (the Bucs are among Denver’s 2020 home opponents).

Brady is not expected to make a decision about his next team today.

Russell Wilson, DK Metcalf reach out to fans in Instagram live chat

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson conducted a live stream on Instagram that involved wide receiver DK Metcalf and others.

With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson resorted to social media to discuss the upcoming NFL season.

Wilson had an Instagram Live chat with wide receiver DK Metcalf and several other associates.

“We’re in a time of severe measures,” Wilson said. “We’re in a time of trials, tribulations and finances and everything else…and I think the reality is, we need to be able to find the joy in it.”

Wilson took the time to reflect on his tenure in the NFL and expressed his gratitude after the league-shaking events that have transpired, including the CBA vote and the aforementioned pandemic.

“It’s kind of crazy to think about a whole 10 years,” Wilson said. “Interesting times, especially the vote happening during all this craziness. Everyone’s away from each other. I am so grateful that I get to play the game though and that’s the good news in it.”

Metcalf has been in Arizona training for the 2020 season and seems to be embracing the underdog role while remaining excited to wreak havoc on any opposition.

“It’s gonna be a big surprise, I think,” Metcalf said, “The doubters always out there, bro.”

Wilson gave a confident response: “They ain’t ready for what we about to do.”

Metcalf is entering his second season in the NFL, while Wilson is entering his ninth. We will see how the two continue their connection in 2020.

The New Orleans Saints reached an agreement with defensive tackle David Onyemata on a three-year contract extension, and no one was happier for him than his teammates. Saints playmakers like defensive end Cameron Jordan, left tackle Terron Armstead, and wide receiver Michael Thomas celebrated his return on Twitter, expressing their eagerness to get to work together. Jordan and Armstead in particular are close friends with Onyemata, often appearing together at charity events and socializing away from the team practice facility.

Onyemata also announced his return from his official Instagram account, writing, “Got some unfinished business to handle.” Now how’s that for having the right attitude? Here are the reactions from Onyemata’s Saints teammates across social media:

Michael Thomas reacts to new CBA’s 17-game NFL season

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas commented on the NFL’s soon-to-be expanded regular season, which won’t take place until 2021

The NFL Players Association voted to ratify a new collective bargaining agreement this weekend, which will run through the next decade and introduce several big changes to the game. Maybe the most significant new feature is the expansion of the regular season to 17 games, extending the regular season another week (the preseason, however, will be limited to just three exhibition games). This big shakeup will not come into play until the 2021 season at the soonest, but some players aren’t happy with the development.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas can be counted in that number. Thomas responded to the news of this change from his official Twitter account, joking that it’s “time to start load management,” referencing the popular NBA practice of resting key players during lengthy road trips. Thomas also shared a tweet from New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who noted that he’ll have to schedule six massages each week instead of just four during the new, extended regular season.

Professional football is one of the most physically-demanding sports in the world, and few of today’s players know that fact better than Thomas. He set a new NFL record for receptions in a single season last year (149), taking on punishing hits from defenders each week.

He ended up being limited in practice with a hand injury late in the season, which Thomas later revealed to include a fractured bone. Even if receivers and cornerbacks don’t take as many hits as, say, running backs and linebackers, they do experience the rigors of the game all the same. And it’s important to remember that an additional regular season game doesn’t just mean an extra work week for these athletes; it carries a real, physical cost that they must put in more effort to manage.
