What Seahawks intend to do with defensive tackle Snack Harrison

The Seattle Seahawks signed defensive tackle Snacks Harrison to the practice squad but the team has bigger plans for him in the near future.

The Seattle Seahawks signed defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison to the practice squad on Wednesday, but the team has bigger plans for him in the near future. However, he likely won’t be available by Sunday night’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.

“Let me see him on a practice field first, I’ve got to see what he looks like running around,” coach Pete Carroll told the reporters. “Learning the defense, he’ll be fine there. He’s a really smart football player, that’s not going to be a problem. It’s just how fit he is and all that. He’s a big man, so we got to see what he looks like.”

Harrison had been contemplating retirement at the end of last season and hasn’t stepped on a football field since. He’ll need to get up to strength and speed before he’s eventually promoted to the active roster and he gets his chance on game day.

“Damon’s been a real force in the league, and he’s got a real special style—he’s so big and so strong and stout in the middle,” Carroll continued. “This opportunity to get him now and to get him on the practice squad is to give him a chance to work and get ready and learn what we’re doing and see where he can fit in as soon as possible.”

Report: DL Damon Harrison to visit Packers on Wednesday

The Packers could get some veteran defensive line help going into the bye week.

The Green Bay Packers might have a chance to add some veteran help for the defensive line going into the bye week.

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, free agent defensive lineman Damon “Snacks” Harrison is set to visit the Packers on Wednesday.

Harrison, 31, played the last two seasons with the Detroit Lions. He is currently visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.

It’s possible Harrison could sign with the Seahawks before visiting the Packers, but it’s equally possible the veteran defender wants to visit both teams before making a decision on a new team for 2020.

The Packers could use the help up front on defense, although Kenny Clark – who has missed the last three games – will likely return following the bye. Harrison could give the Packers a more reliable run-stuffing option to team with Clark.

Harrison, now 31, previously played for Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine in New York with the Jets.

Former All-Pro DT Damon ‘Snacks’ Harrison is on Bears’ radar

Following an injury to John Jenkins, the Bears are among a handful of teams interested in Damon Harrison’s services.

Through the first two games of the 2020 NFL season, the Chicago Bears have remained relatively healthy, especially in comparison to the rest of the league. But if there’s one position to be concerned with, it’s the nose tackle spot on the defensive line.

First, veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman opted out of the season this summer due to health concerns surrounding COVID-19. Now, defensive tackle John Jenkins, his replacement, is dealing with an injured thumb and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future. Help may be on the way, however.

Following the news of Jenkins’ injury, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is reporting veteran defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison has decided to play this year and is meeting with teams this week. The Bears are among a handful of teams interested in his services.

Harrison, who last played for the Detroit Lions in 2019, contemplated retiring this offseason, but decided to keep his options open. The 31-year old was an all-pro as a member of the New York Giants in 2016 after signing a lucrative deal with them that offseason. He was traded to Detroit midseason in 2018 and started 15 games for the Lions in 2019, totaling 49 tackles and two sacks.

The Bears were considered “an option” for Harrison when he responded to a now-deleted Tweet earlier this month when he contemplated where he wanted to play this season. But it’s worth noting his first official visit is with the Seattle Seahawks and it’s unclear if the Bears will bring him in. Chicago also signed former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Daniel McCullers to replace Jenkins, possibly an indication the team is done adding to the position for now.

For now, Bears fans will have to wait and see if Harrison is still available or if he winds up signing a deal with Seattle.

Why the Seahawks should sign free agent DT Damon Harrison

The Seattle Seahawks need a run-stuffing defensive tackle, and Damon Harrison is a perfect fit in free agency.

It’s no secret the Seattle Seahawks are going to add a veteran defensive tackle before the 2020 season kicks off.

After all, recent years have seen late additions of Al Woods, Shamar Stephen and Sheldon Richardson, and this year’s squad has almost no depth behind presumed starters Jarran Reed and Poona Ford.

The question, however, is how much Seattle will be willing to spend on a third defensive tackle, a role typically reserved for a veteran guy near the end of their productive NFL seasons.

If they are willing to dip into their cap space, one name who would really help shore things up on the front lines is Damon “Snacks” Harrison.

Harrison spent the first 6.5 years of his career in New York, split between the Jets and the Giants, before joining the Lions for the last half of the 2018 season and all of 2019.

Named an All-Pro in 2016, Harrison racked up 485 tackles, 11 sacks, 10 passes defended and four forced fumbles in his career – cementing himself among the best run-stuffers in the NFL over the last decade.

As a No. 3 option behind Reed and Ford, Harrison would give Seattle some desperately needed depth on a defensive line that struggled against both the run and the pass last year, and lost Jadeveon Clowney and Quinton Jefferson, as well as Woods, this offseason.

News: Could Cowboys pursue Harrison, Griffen? Elliott’s smarts

Ezekiel Elliott was smart in contract negotiations. Why Did Gerald McCoy choose Dallas? Will the Cowboys sign Everson Griffen?

Ezekiel Elliott stood his ground last summer when he was in pursuit of a long-term deal with the Cowboys. With Todd Gurley being released by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week although he still had years remaining on his deal makes Elliott’s decision to do so look even smarter. Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy signed a three-year deal with the Cowboys earlier this week, and he has a specific reason why he put his signature on the dotted line. The Cowboys may not be done adding pieces to the interior defensive line, as reportedly they’re open to the idea of acquiring free-agent defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison.

For the past few days, free-agent defensive ends Everson Griffen and Jadeveon Clowney have been linked as possible additions bolster the Cowboys pass rush. There have been some solid players added to the Cowboys roster during the early wave of free agency, however, their philosophy in the NFL Draft should remain the same. Who are the best available free agents after the first week, the possibility of adding defensive tackle Dontari Poe at a bargain, and how the Cowboys got creative in re-signing Joe Looney are covered in the News and Notes.
