Where Auburn players rank among the top 300 draft prospects

A look at NFL draft rankings for Auburn players in the 2022 class.

We are just a couple of days away from the start of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Auburn Tigers football program has three players that are patiently waiting to find out where they will be playing at the NFL level. The group is led by cornerback [autotag]Roger McCreary[/autotag], who will likely be the first Auburn player to come off the board.

Beyond McCreary, we have safety [autotag]Smoke Monday[/autotag] and linebacker [autotag]Zakoby McClain[/autotag]. No offensive prospects this season but that could be a different story in the 2023 class when it is likely that Tank Bigsby could make the jump following the upcoming season. However, we will include the rankings for former quarterback Malik Willis.

Here we look at where the Auburn trio rank among the top prospects and how the lineup at their positions ahead of the NFL draft according to Draft Wire.

Final Tennessee Titans 7-round mock draft with a trade back

For the final time before the 2022 NFL draft, Shaun Calderon is dropping a seven-round Titans mock that features a trade out of the first round.

We are just days away from the Tennessee Titans making their first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and there is about as much uncertainty around the NFL as ever before.

Usually by now we at least know who the first overall pick of the draft will be; however, this year even that is up for a valid debate as of right now.

The Titans enter the draft owning seven selections, including the 26th pick, which could be used on a handful of different players. Another avenue the Titans could explore is trading back and acquiring an extra pick or two depending on how far they decide to go.

In this particular mock, I traded out of the first round and gave up the right to a future fifth-year option in order to collect an extra premium pick. The trade values were based on the modern-day version of Jimmy Johnson’s infamous draft pick value chart.

Having said all that, let’s take a closer look at how this scenario plays out in my final mock draft that involves a trade back.

2022 NFL draft: Smoke Monday scouting report

Everything NFL draft fans need to know about Auburn safety Smoke Monday

A two-year starter with a physical playing style, Auburn safety Smoke Monday is more than just one of the best names in the 2022 NFL draft.

Here is everything you need to know about the Tigers’ enforcer on the back end of the defense.

Report: Colts met virtually with Auburn DB Smoke Monday

The Colts reportedly met virtually with Auburn DB Smoke Monday.

The Indianapolis Colts reportedly met virtually with Auburn defensive back Smoke Monday ahead of the 2022 NFL draft, per Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

Even though the Colts have added some new names to the secondary in recent weeks, they are still on the hunt to add a prospect or two during the draft.

At 6-foot-1 and 207 pounds, Monday measured in with 32 1/2-inch arms while running a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine this offseason.

Monday spent four seasons at Auburn playing in 50 games and making 24 starts. He added five interceptions and 13 passes defended to go along with 17.0 tackles for loss.

Monday is likely headed for Day 3 draft capital so he’s certainly an option for the Colts as a back-end depth piece while contributing on special teams. The Colts added Armani Watts and Rodney McLeod to the safety room this offseason as well.

Here’s what Dane Brugler of The Athletic said about Monday in his draft guide:

“Overall, Monday is a long, athletic player with the competitive spirit that won’t go unnoticed by NFL coaches, but neither will his inconsistencies and the questions about his best defensive position. At worst, he will be in the mix for an NFL roster spot thanks to his core special teams ability.”

The Colts have a need to add some depth to the safety room and when they’ll do so remains to be seen. But at least we know they have some interest in Monday with a week left until the draft.

How Auburn stacks up in latest mock drafts

Here is where experts are placing Auburn’s prospects eight days out from the NFL draft:

‘Tis the season.

With the NFL draft just eight days away, mock drafts and predictions have run rampant across the internet. Multiple-round mocks are common and predictions vary as everyone tries their best to guess who will go where once proceedings begin in Las Vegas, Nevada next Thursday.

As such, players from the Auburn Tigers, like any SEC team, are bound to be mentioned. We’ve compiled some of the latest mock drafts leading up to the big day to see where Auburn’s talent has been landing across the board.

Here’s where the Auburn Tigers are set to be in the mix come next week:

Texans should consider Auburn S Smoke Monday if all else fails

If the Houston Texans can’t get their day one and two safeties they like, Auburn’s Smoke Monday would be a decent option.

While it may seem the Houston Texans have all the time and assets in the world to address roster needs throughout the entire three days of the 2022 NFL draft, the weekend could get away from them.

Perhaps Kyle Hamilton is not available to them in Round 1, and day two safeties Jaquan Brisker, Jalen Pitre, and Lewis Cine slip through their grasp.

If day three rolls around and the Texans still have not added a solid defensive back for the backend to play Lovie Smith’s Tampa 2 scheme, they may be able to still salvage their pursuit with Auburn safety Smoke Monday.

According to Pete Prisco from CBS Sports, Monday is one of his 20 prospects that he likes more than scouts do.

He is a tall, leaner safety who is more than willing to throw his body around. There are a lot of plays on tape where he can chase down a run play from the deep middle to the sideline. That shows awareness and speed. He is a willing tackler, even if he needs to get bigger. He is also a solid coverage player who can turn and run when need be, even if he is sometimes too aggressive. He is fluid and had some big picks for the Tigers. A team that takes him in the fourth round will be getting a starter down the road.

Don’t sleep on Prisco’s picks. After all, former Stanford quarterback Davis Mills was one of his 20 such selections ahead of the 2021 NFL draft.

Safety may be too big of a priority for the Texans to use a selection on Monday. Nevertheless if the draft starts to get away from them and they have yet to shore up the backend, Monday would be a decent pick to use to provide depth at safety.

Three Auburn players selected in new seven round mock draft

It’s defense all the way down in this latest mock draft.

A new ESPN+ mock draft has more than one Tiger going to the NFL.

The mock draft, written by ESPN’s Jordan Reid (subscription required), saw Tigers get drafted across all seven rounds. All three of the Auburn players Reid had selected in his mock draft were defensive players.

The first player Reid had going in the draft is Auburn’s oft-projected highest pick this year in cornerback [autotag]Roger McCreary[/autotag]. He was slotted in at the 55th overall pick in the draft — the 23rd pick of the second round — to the Arizona Cardinals, where he would team up with the likes of Byron Murphy Jr. and Marco Wilson at the cornerback position. McCreary has been given increasing praise as the NFL draft gets closer in AprilHere is what the mock had to say about McCreary’s fit with Arizona:

“McCreary is only 5-foot-11, and his overall length could push him to the slot full-time. Still, size hasn’t been a factor for defensive backs the Cardinals have drafted in previous years. They could add him to a secondary that must continue to add young depth.”

The other two Tigers players going in the second round are also on the defensive side of the ball. The mock has safety [autotag]Smoke Monday[/autotag] being selected with the with the 249th pick by the Green Bay Packers (the 27th overall pick in the seventh round) and linebacker [autotag]Zakoby McClain[/autotag] going to the Arizona Cardinals as well with the 257th pick (the 35th pick in the seventh round). Interestingly, the mock has McClain listed as a safety.

Both Monday and McClain produced well for Auburn during their time in the Plains. Monday racked up 171 career tackles, five interceptions and five pass breakups over his Auburn career and McClain contributed for 267 tackles as an Auburn Tiger. Although they may not be drafted high, the defensive duo could still make an impact on an NFL roster if given the chance and drafted late.

Full 7-round Eagles mock draft post-blockbuster trade with the Saints

2022 NFL draft: Philadelphia Eagles add more talent on defense in full seven-round mock post blockbuster trade with the New Orleans Saints

The Eagles once again shook up the NFL draft boards after a blockbuster trade that saw general manager Howie Roseman trade pick No. 16, No. 19, and No. 194 to the Saints for pick No. 18, No. 101, No. 237, a 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 second-rounder as well.

With the moves made, here’s an updated Eagles-only seven-round mock draft via Pro Football Network’s mock draft simulator, that’ll likely see the Birds still land players that were on their board.

2022 NFL draft: Eagles add more dynamic talent on defense in full seven-round mock

2022 NFL draft: Philadelphia Eagles add more dynamic talent on defense in full seven-round mock

The NFL’s official league year got off to a roaring start as the quest for a Super Bowl in 2022 is underway for all 32 NFL teams.

The Eagles just completed the first two weeks of an intriguing offseason that started off strong with free agency,  features three-first round picks, valuable salary-cap space, and several different routes the franchise can choose to follow.

With Jalen Hurts as the quarterback for at least the next calendar year, Philadelphia has chosen to build around the quarterback, and they still could push a first-round pick back to 2023 where the quarterback class will be much more talented.

It’ll be an interesting lead-up to April’s NFL draft and we’re adding to the fun with our fifth full seven-round mock draft 5.0, this time, after the first wave of free agency.

In this seven-round mock draft using Pro Football Network’s mock draft simulator, we again avoided making any trades in this version, choosing to fully restock a roster that has holes on both sides of the ball, utilizing seven of the 10 picks on high-profile and highly versatile defensive players.
