Five-star wide receiver lists LSU among final four

LSU Tigers among the final four schools on the list for 2022 five-star WR Shazz Preston.

The LSU Tigers received some good news on Monday as they inch closer to potentially adding another member to the 2022 recruiting class. Five-star wide receiver Shazz Preston of St. James released his final four schools for recruitment. He plays both ways as a wide receiver and defensive back.

Preston is viewed as a wide receiver at the collegiate level. He would fit in nicely with the group currently committed with top quarterback Walker Howard pledged as well. That would give them another five-star pass catcher along with current sensation Kayshon Boutte.

Preston is looking at LSU, Alabama, Georgia, and Texas. Currently trending towards the Tigers but each of the four would be attractive options for any high school recruit.

“It’s the crib,” Preston said. “Coach (Mickey) Joseph and the offensive staff really believe that I can make a big impact in their offense. The environment is great, and it’s my home town. LSU is just a great spot I could see myself in.” – Preston to On3 Sports about the Tigers

Four-star wide receiver Shazz Preston releases top four schools

Shazz Preston named his top four on Monday, with Texas joining three SEC schools.

As Texas’ recruiting has picked up late in the month of August and into September, one gaping hole has been missing — the wide receiver position.

Four-star Armani Winfield is the only committed at the position and has been in the class longer than anybody. Other targets are out there within the state like five-star Evan Stewart and four-star Brenen Thompson.

An out-of-state option remains in play as well. Four-star Shazz Preston is the main one with his 6-0, 190-pound frame considered the ideal fit for Steve Sarkisian’s system. A well-rounded receiver who can play over the field seems to be the description for all of Texas’ targets.

Preston named his top four on Monday, with Texas joining three SEC schools. Alabama, Georgia, and the hometown LSU round out the list.

Sarkisian and his staff have been making strides in Louisiana in the past couple of weeks. Three-star wide receiver and once Colorado commit Ronald Lewis committed less than 24 hours after being offered by Texas. Four-star edge J’Mond Tapp is a verbal commit as well despite top SEC programs pushing.

Even with LSU starting the year 0-1 and possibly having some off-the-field issues, pulling kids out of the state of Louisiana is going to be tough. Some schools are able to win hometown recruiting battles, no matter the situation. The Tigers may be the best example in the country.

Preston made his official visit to Austin back in June. If Texas wants to pull this one out, getting the four-star on campus is more than likely necessary. Sarkisian’s offensive explosion must continue on the field too.

On the 247Sports composite, Preston is the No. 56 overall player and the No. 5 wide receiver in the 2022 class. Within The Boot, he ranks as the No. 4 prospect.

Alabama football recruiting: Tide makes top four for WR Shazz Preston

Alabama makes the cut for four-star WR Shazz Preston

Alabama hauled in the best wide receiver class in 2021 and Nick Saban and staff look to build a similar class for 2022.

Alabama is targetting several of the top receivers in the 2022 class, one of which released his top four earlier today.

Four-star Shazz Preston released his top four via Hayes Fawcett of On3 Recruits.

Preston, a native of Saint James, LA, is a talented prospect who displays the ability to high-point the ball and make contested catches.

Along with Alabama, Georiga, Texas, and in-state school LSU, made the cut for Preston.

Georgia football among top schools for 4-star Shazz Preston

The Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers are among the top schools for four-star wide receiver recruit Shazz Preston

The Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers are among the top schools for four-star wide receiver recruit Shazz Preston. Preston is a member of the class of 2022 and plays high school football for Saint James in Louisiana.

Shazz Preston is ranked the No. 8 wide receiver prospect in his class, the No. 65 prospect overall and the fourth-best player in Louisiana.

On film, Preston displays good body control, is a solid route runner and frequently puts himself in a position to gain yards after the catch. Preston does a solid job of tracking the football and wins jump balls quite often for a 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver.

The four-star wide receiver prospect plays on a great high school team. St. James won a 3A state championship in 2019. St. James advanced to the quarterfinals in 2020 before losing to Church Point.

Shazz Preston puts Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Miami, Texas, USC and Mississippi State in his top seven schools.

The LSU Tigers are considered the favorites in Preston’s recruitment, but don’t count out Kirby Smart and Georgia, who have snagged some elite prospects from Louisiana in recent seasons.

Four-star wide receiver Shazz Preston announces top seven schools

Wide receiver Shazz Preston is a 2022 prospect Andre Coleman has been working on. The four-star announced his top seven schools on Friday.

Outside of quarterback, wide receiver has been the most talked-about position concerning Texas’ 2022 recruiting cycle. Armani Winfield is already locked up, while Evan Stewart recently decommited. In-state prospects such as Stewart, Chris Marshall, and Jordan Hudson remain a priority, but Andre Coleman has been making progress out of the state.

Four-star Shazz Preston is one of the players Coleman has been working on. Preston announced his top seven schools on Friday. A majority come from the SEC, with hometown LSU leading the way.

Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi State round out the schools from the SEC in Preston’s top seven. His most recent offer, USC, also made the cut with Miami and Texas being the final two programs.

Preston has been compared to Oklahoma State’s Tylan Wallace, an in-state prospect Texas missed out on, by 247Sports. The two share a 6-0, 190-pound frame and are both elite in the air. Steve Sarkisian and Coleman will want to land this Louisiana native.

Alabama pursuing 2022 4-star CB Tayon Holloway

Four-star cornerback Tayon Holloway out of Virginia Beach (Va.) landed an offer from Alabama on Wednesday.

Four-star cornerback Tayon Holloway joined several other players on Wednesday in announcing that they had landed an offer from the University of Alabama.

The Virginia Beach (Va.) native took to Twitter to share the news:

In addition to Holloway, several other top recruits for the 2022 class, including running back Le’Veon Moss, wide receiver Shazz Preston, Dani Dennis-Sutton and fellow cornerback Laterrance Welch, shared the news of their offers.

Holloway is an interesting prospect. Currently at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds, the need to continue to add some length and overall size is there. But considering he was only a sophomore this past season, there’s no reason to believe that he can’t make that growth.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Holloway is rated as the No. 183 overall player, No. 22 cornerback and No. 9 player from the state of Virginia.

Alabama is now the second SEC school to offer the Green Run High School standout, joining Tennessee, who offered him back in March of 2019.

Here is what Brian Dohn with 247Sports had to say about Holloway:

Long, lean frame with good length. Can easily add 15 to 20 pounds without impacting skill set. Loose hips and smooth athlete. Transitions easily from backpedal to running with receiver. Does best work as field corner. Has speed to track on long crossing patterns. Gets out of breaks on receiver’s hip. Possesses closing speed. Good ball skills. Comfortable in backpedal. Has to add strength. Must improve on jam ability to re-route receiver. Must become bigger factor in run game. Multi-year starter at Top 20 program. Day 3 NFL draft potential.

Nick Saban has always preferred his cornerbacks, especially on the perimeter, to have a lot of length, so despite the fact the more mass is needed, Holloway is already looking like he’ll have the body type Alabama looks for at the position.

Stay tuned for more recruiting updates on Holloway and other top Alabama targets from Roll Tide Wire, part of USA TODAY Sports!
