Texas A&M Football schedule: Are the Aggies playing today?

Texas A&M will await its bowl game destination, which will be announced on Sunday after the final CFP rankings are revealed

Texas A&M’s 2024 season ended in a 17-7 loss at the hands of rival Texas in the final week of the regular season, as head coach Mike Elko’s first season was still successful in many ways.

With the offseason already underway, Elko and his staff officially added 25 players in the 2025 recruiting class during Wednesday’s Early Signing Day, including five-star prospects in offensive tackle Lamont Rogers and elite wide receiver Jerome Myles.

However, Elko is once again tasked with adding veteran talent from the transfer portal in a similar fashion to last offseason. Nearly every position group, especially wide receiver, and D-line needs added depth and playmakers with plug-and-play upside.

Within the transfer portal, ten players have entered. Every departure makes sense, including pass rushers Malik Sylla and Enai White, who have dealt with many injuries during their Aggie careers. However, it’s important to note that just because these players have entered the portal doesn’t mean they’ll leave the program.

While looking toward the 2025 season is nice, the reality is that the Aggies came up short in November, finishing 1-3, while Texas will face Georgia in the SEC Championship game during the Longhorns’ first season in the conference.

Here is how Texas A&M’s 2024 schedule finished out:

  • Week 1: Saturday, Aug. 31, Texas A&M vs. Notre Dame: L, 23-13
  • Week 2: Saturday, Sept. 7th, Texas A&M vs. McNeese: W, 52-10
  • Week 3: Saturday, Sept. 14th, Texas A&M @ Florida: W 33-20
  • Week 4: Saturday, Sept. 21st, Texas A&M vs. Bowling Green: W 26-20
  • Week 5: Saturday, Sept. 28, Texas A&M vs. Arkansas: W, 21-17
  • Week 6: Saturday, Oct. 5th, Texas A&M vs. Missouri: W, 41-10
  • Week 8: Saturday, Oct. 19th, Texas A&M @ Mississippi State: W, 34-24
  • Week 9: Saturday, Oct. 26th, Texas A&M vs. LSU: W, 38-23
  • Week 10: Saturday, Nov. 3rd, Texas A&M @ South Carolina: L, 44-20
  • Week 12: Saturday, Nov. 16th, Texas A&M vs. New Mexico State: W, 38-3
  • Week 13: Saturday, Nov. 23rd, Texas A&M @ Auburn: L, 43-41 7 OT

Reasons Texas football will cover and win vs. UGA

Why Texas will cover and win the SEC championship game vs. Georgia football

The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs play in the No. 2 Texas Longhorns on Saturday, at 4 p.m. ET in the 2024 SEC championship game. Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, will host the SEC title game.

The Longhorns are 2 1/2 points favorites going into the game.

Quarterback Play

The Texas offense is unique and plays two quarterbacks. Quinn Ewers is the main quarterback and the top decision maker. He is efficient through the air with a 3.4 touchdown to interception ratio.

The changeup quarterback is Arch Manning, who is the better runner of the two. He scored a rushing touchdown in Texas’ 17-7 win against Texas A&M. Texas will have to be on its “A” game to avenge its only loss.

Secondary

The Texas secondary is one of the best in the nation. Cornerback Jahdae Barron and safety Andrew Mukuba are two standouts that lead the group. Mukuba leads Texas in interceptions with four.

Barron is finalist of the Jim Thorpe Award for the best defensive back in the nation. Texas forced three Carson Beck interceptions in the first matchup. Both look to create turnovers to give the Longhorns an advantage in possessions.

Familiar Opponent

Something about seeing a team again gives the team that lost the previous matchup a new-found urgency. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is an offensive mastermind, and he will have something new up his sleeve for the Bulldogs, who have struggled in recent weeks.

CFB Playoff bracket scenario if Texas loses to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game

Where does Texas land in the College Football Playoff if the Longhorns lose to the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game?

(This story was updated to add new information.)

Update: Texas lost the SEC Championship game to Georgia. The Longhorns will still make the college football playoffs as an at-large team. By beating the Aggies, Texas basically assured itself of a place in the 12-team playoff.

But where will the Longhorns be seeded? Will they host a home game in the first round? The answer looks to be Texas will be a No. 5 seed and host a first round game.

USA TODAY Sports has ran through five of the scenarios that could play out during championship Saturday. They detail two scenarios where Texas loses. In each, UT ends up with the No. 6 seed and would host a game. But all of those models had Texas and Oregon losing their respective conference championship games.

In the USA TODAY rundown, ‘Scenario 4’, the sixth seeded Longhorns would face Big 12 champion Arizona State, with the winner advancing to play SMU in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta.  Everything stays the same in ‘Scenario 5’, but the Texas-ASU winner plays Clemson.

Both of those scenarios have both Texas and Oregon losing. Both have Oregon as the No. 5 seed. If just Texas loses, which they did, they are likely to get the No. 5 seed in the bracket.

Georgia has a ‘College GameDay’ SEC championship curse

How Georgia football has a “College GameDay” curse in the SEC championship

The Georgia Bulldogs may not be too excited that ESPN’s “College GameDay” is headed to Atlanta, Georgia, for the SEC championship game. Yes, Georgia is glad to be back in the SEC championship, but the Bulldogs have a bit of a curse when GameDay attends the SEC title game.

Coach Kirby Smart and Georgia have played in four consecutive SEC championships and seven of the last eight. Georgia is 2-4 during the Kirby Smart era in SEC championships, but the Bulldogs are 0-4 when GameDay is in town for the SEC title game in the Smart era. UGA is 2-0 in SEC championships without GameDay since 2016.

Georgia’s record gets even worse when looking back further. The Bulldogs are 0-7 all time when GameDay attends the SEC championship and 4-0 when GameDay is elsewhere.

Georgia will have a chance to break the GameDay curse this weekend. The Bulldogs play the Texas Longhorns in the SEC championship on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. The Georgia-Texas game will be televised on ABC.

Bevo Banned! Texas mascot barred from SEC Championship Game, Georgia’s Uga allowed to attend

Bevo has been barred from the SEC Championship Game, Texas mascot won’t make trip to Atlanta but Georgia’s Uga XI allowed to attend.

There will not be another meeting (rematch) of Bevo and Uga this weekend. Bevo will not be allowed to attend the SEC Championship Game at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Citing sideline space constraints, SEC officials will not allow the Texas mascot to attend the SEC title game, according to Silver Spur Alumni Association Executive Director Ricky Brennes. Uga XI (nicknamed “Boom.”), the University of Georgia’s bulldog mascot, will be in attendance.

This year’s National Championship Game is also at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. If the Longhorns advance to the college football playoff final, Bevo will not be allowed at that game either.

“When we received the request for Bevo to be on the sideline in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, our staff looked at several alternatives including the sideline location,” the SEC said in a statement. “The reality is there is limited sideline space at the stadium. We can’t jeopardize the safety of Bevo or the game participants. With the narrow sidelines, location of multiple sets for television and camera carts, there is not enough space. While we want to honor tradition across the conference, the space limitation is a reality.”

This will be the second time fans are denied a rematch between Bevo and Uga. The first time the two met was in the 2019 Sugar Bowl, and things got ugly between the two. If you don’t remember, Bevo charged Uga on the sideline before the game when the handlers attempted a summit between two of the most famous live mascots in all of college football.

The skirmish was caught live on ESPN. The Longhorn Network was actually doing play-by-play of the meeting. The incident is without a doubt the most famous live mascot interaction ever.

The second possible encounter between the steer and the dog at DKR in October didn’t happen. The mascot’s handler, Charles Seiler, said the decision not to travel to October’s game was based on logistics, rather than a hesitance to reunite with Bevo.

Uga lives in Savannah, Georgia, which is over 200 miles away from Athens, where the university is located. Seiler said the almost 5 hour trip to Athens to meet up with the team’s plane, plus the two hour flight would be too much for the English Bulldog.

“That’s a lot of wear and tear on the dog,” Seiler told the Austin American-Statesman. “…Those games way out in the middle of the country are hard for us to get to. This dog that we have ‒ well, he’s not new ‒ but he’s only two-and-a-half, and we haven’t flown him yet, and he hasn’t been on a team bus yet.”

The SEC Championship Game is in Atlanta, about 50 miles farther from Savannah than Athens. But without the added plane trip, it seems like the Seiler family will make the trip.

Georgia vs. Texas series history entering SEC championship

Georgia Bulldogs versus Texas Longhorns football series history entering the SEC title game

The SEC championship will be between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Texas Longhorns. The game is a rematch and will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Texas leads the all-time series 4-2 against Georgia. What are some of the notable games in series history?

(2024) Georgia 30, Texas 15

Georgia went out in Austin and dominated defensively through all four quarters. Junior linebacker Jalon Walker took the college football world by storm with eight tackles, three sacks and three tackle for loss on Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning. On the offensive end, running back Trevor Etienne showed why Georgia signed him in the offseason with 87 rushing yards and three touchdowns to uplift Carson Beck’s three turnovers.

(2019 Sugar Bowl) Texas 28, Georgia 21

The 2019 Sugar Bowl game featured notable moments, including Texas’ mascot, Bevo, charging toward Georgia’s Uga during the pregame. Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger accounted for 233 total yards and three touchdowns to help seal the victory. Jake Fromm threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.

(1984) Georgia 10, Texas 9

This game is remembered for Georgia pulling off a dramatic upset over Texas, which entered the game ranked No. 2 in the nation and was a heavy favorite. The Longhorns were vying for a national championship but saw their hopes dashed with the loss. Georgia quarterback John Lastinger ran 17 yards for a touchdown with 3:22 left to play to capture the victory.

‘College GameDay’ announces conference championship week location

ESPN’s “College GameDay” has already attended 10 games with at least one SEC team this season

ESPN’s “College GameDay” announced it will attend the Texas Longhorns versus Georgia Bulldogs game on conference championship Saturday.

No. 5 Georgia plays No. 2 Texas in the SEC championship in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Last year, GameDay set up at the Georgia World of Congress Center Building B, which is close to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

This year marks the 11th time that GameDay has attended an SEC championship. GameDay has been in town for four of the last six SEC championships.

GameDay previously attended the Texas-Georgia game in Austin, Texas, in October. Georgia beat Texas 30-15 in the Longhorns’ only loss of the season.

This will be GameDay’s 10th time attending a game with at least one SEC team this season, which is more than any other conference.

Last week, GameDay attended Texas at Texas A&M game, which Texas won 17-7 to advance to the SEC championship.

Other notable conference championship games include Penn State versus Oregon (Big Ten), Arizona State versus Iowa State (Big 12), Clemson versus SMU (ACC) and Boise State versus UNLV (Mountain West).

Carson Beck names ‘most memorable moment’ from first game vs. Texas

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck recalls the what he remembers the most from UGA’s road win at Texas

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck looked back on Georgia’s 30-15 win at the Texas Longhorns ahead of the SEC championship.

“I think the most memorable moment in that game is when their fans started to throw stuff onto the field. That was one of the crazier moments in a game that I’ve ever experienced,” said Beck.

Beck and Georgia jumped out to a stunning 23-0 first half lead at Texas on Oct. 19. The Bulldogs forced four Texas turnovers and sacked the Longhorns seven times in the win. However, it is is not surprising that Beck remembers when Texas fans threw bottles on the field because of a controversial pass interference penalty. The penalty flag, which was waived off after a delay for clearing trash off the field, came on one of Beck’s three interceptions.

“That environment was a lot of fun to play in, and ultimately coming out with a win in that environment was really good for our team,” continued Beck. “Obviously, they’re a really good team. They have a good defense, a really good offense, and they’ve been really consistent throughout the season. They pose a good challenge for us, and it’s for the SEC (championship). I’m excited, and I know the guys are excited for this opportunity.”

[lawrence-related id=108513,108481]

Beck has 11 touchdowns and no interceptions over his past three games and will need to be sharp for Georgia to win the SEC championship. Last game, Beck completed 23 of 41 passes for 175 yards and three interceptions. He’ll look to take better care of the ball this time against the Longhorns.

Who does ESPN’s matchup predictor say will win the SEC Championship game, Texas or Georgia?

ESPN’s matchup predictor makes its pick for the SEC Championship game. Do the super computers favor Texas or Georgia?

Who doesn’t love a rematch? The Texas Longhorns will get another crack at the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the SEC Championship Game.

It sets up for a possible storybook beginning to the SEC era for the Longhorns. A win and an SEC title in the first year in the conference would go down in history. To do so, Texas must solve Georgia, the only team to beat UT all year.

Texas needed to beat the Texas A&M Aggies to advance to the title game. Georgia actually clinched its spot in the game last week via tiebreakers. Then the Bulldogs needed eight overtimes to shake off instate rival Georgia Tech. A loss in that game would have most likely meant that Georgia would have needed to win the SEC championship to get into the playoffs. But the ‘Dawgs won and now both teams should safely make it into the college football playoff, win or lose.

UT struggled the first time the two teams played. Georgia jumped out to a 23-0 lead in that game on Oct. 19 at halftime, before a furious third quarter Texas rally fell short. UGA won the game 30-15.

Texas was favored in that game, just like Texas is favored in this game. The ESPN match predictor says UT has a 61.5% chance of getting revenge against the Bulldogs. It is one of the lowest advantages of the year for Texas in the computer model. But the Disney super computers still favor the Horns.

Georgia DB entering transfer portal ahead of SEC championship

Georgia defensive back to enter transfer portal, who has started several games this year, days before SEC championship vs. Texas

Georgia Bulldogs redshirt sophomore defensive back Julian Humphrey intends to enter the transfer portal. Humphrey announced his intentions to enter the portal via social media. The transfer portal officially opens on Dec. 9.

Humphrey announced his plans just six days before Georgia plays against Texas in the 2024 SEC championship game.

Humphrey has played and started in several games for Georgia this season. In recent week, Daniel Harris has taken over as the primary cornerback alongside Daylen Everette, signaling a shift in Georgia’s lineup. It now appears that Humphrey has made a decision about his future. Humphrey has 10 tackles and four pass break ups in 10 games this season.

After briefly entering the transfer portal following last season and announcing his departure after the Orange Bowl, Humphrey ultimately chose to return to Georgia. However, based on the timing it now seems like he will transfer to another program. It is unclear if Humphrey will continue practicing with the team.

A member of Georgia’s 2022 recruiting class, Humphrey was a highly regarded four-star prospect and ranked among the top 100 players in the nation. Originally from Texas, he initially committed to Florida during his recruitment but later decommitted and pledged to the Bulldogs. During his time in Athens, he contributed as both a starting and reserve defensive back.

Humphrey’s decision to enter the transfer portal is a blow to UGA’s outside cornerback depth. The Bulldogs would likely have to turn to Ellis Robinson
