Carson Beck injury status update ahead of Sugar Bowl

Georgia QB Carson Beck injury status update ahead of College Football Playoff quarterfinal

Carson Beck will miss Georgia’s Sugar Bowl matchup in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. On3’s Pete Nakos first reported via social media that Beck’s ulnar collateral ligament (elbow) injury will sideline him for the Sugar Bowl against either Notre Dame or Indiana.

Beck sustained the injury on the final play of the first half during the SEC championship game. The Jacksonville native, who considered entering the NFL draft last year but chose to return for one more season, completed 64.7% of his passes in 2025, throwing for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also added a rushing touchdown.

The injury occurred as Beck attempted a Hail Mary with Georgia trailing 6-3 in the SEC championship. While trying to bye time, he was hit by a Texas pass rusher as he threw, causing his arm to twist awkwardly. Beck stayed on the ground for a couple of minutes before walking off the field under his own power, his right arm hanging at his side. He returned to the sideline in the second half with ice on his elbow and shoulder.

In overtime, Texas scored a field goal on its opening possession. On Georgia’s turn, an eight-yard Gunner Stockton run set the Bulldogs up at the Texas four-yard line, but Stockton had to come out after losing his helmet on the play. Beck returned for a single snap to hand the ball off to Trevor Etienne, who scored the game-winning touchdown. That final handoff may have marked the last play of Beck’s 2024 season and secured the SEC championship for Georgia.

After the SEC championship, Beck and UGA have been searching for second opinions on his injury. During the time away, Gunner Stockton has been taking the first team reps. In the six drives, Stockton was the quarterback he helped lead the Bulldogs on four scoring drives.

Kirby Smart explains Georgia football’s fake punt decision

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart says UGA “needed a spark” and that’s why he did a risky fake punt with different results than the 2018 SEC championship

The Georgia Bulldogs needed some momentum. With the SEC championship game tied at 13 and only 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart decided to roll the dice. Smart called a fake punt, which resulted in a critical first down for the Bulldogs.

Georgia offensive lineman Drew Bobo completed a nine yard touch pass to wide receiver Arian Smith on fourth and five from Georgia’s own 30 yard line. Georgia went on to kick a field goal on the drive, which gave UGA a 16-13 lead.

“Yeah, I got some history of fake punts in that building,” said Smart, who stopped a successful Ohio State fake punt in the 2022 College Football Playoff semifinals with a perfectly timed timeout. Smart also had a failed fake punt attempt with Justin Fields in the Bulldogs’ 2018 SEC championship loss to Alabama.

“The biggest risk of snapping it to Drew Bobo, he had to catch it and toss it, so he’ll go down in history with a higher passing percentage than his father (former Georgia quarterback Mike Bobo),” Smart said. “I had one for one, so he should be 1,000%.”

There’s no doubt that Georgia’s fake punt is a massive reason why the Bulldogs went on to win the 2024 SEC championship over the Texas Longhorns.

“So it gave us a field goal, gave us a little momentum, a little juice,” continued Smart. “And we had lost a little momentum at that point. I think that was after they scored the touchdown. Look, it’s a lot easier to call it when you think you’re gonna be in the playoffs either way.”

According to ESPN, Georgia’s successful fake punt gave the Bulldogs a 2.2% higher chance to win. Of course, if the fake punt failed, then it would have been devastating for Georgia’s hopes of knocking off Texas.

“SEC champs baby!!” said former Georgia running back Herschel Walker.

“Hard to beat the Georgia Bulldogs. They get everyone’s best shot and just win. Congrats,” said Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin.

“It’s hard to beat a great team twice. … But it’s even harder to beat Georgia’s worst team in seven years once apparently,” said one UGA fan on social media.

Backup QB leads Georgia Bulldogs to SEC Championship win over Texas Longhorns

Texas fell short of a rematch win against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Texas fell short in the SEC Championship game to the Georgia Bulldogs in an overtime thriller. 22-19 was the final from Atlanta, as now the only two losses on the UT season have come at the hands of the Bulldogs.

Georgia claims the SEC Championship and the first-round bye. Trevor Etienne sealed the victory for the Bulldogs, scurrying into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown run in the first overtime.

The Longhorns opened the scoring midway through the first quarter. Bert Auburn nailed a 41-yard field goal with 5:17 remaining, capping a methodical 9-play, 64-yard drive that chewed up over four minutes of clock. Texas took an early 3-0 lead and maintained their edge into the second quarter.

Auburn was back in action early in the second quarter, extending the Longhorns’ lead to 6-0 with a 42-yard field goal at the 10:22 mark. The impressive 14-play, 56-yard drive spanned over seven minutes.

Georgia responded with a scoring drive of their own, as kicker Peyton Woodring drilled a 44-yard field goal with 6:32 remaining in the half, narrowing the score to 6-3.

Texas dominated the first half statically. Just before halftime, Georgia quarterback, Carson Beck, went down holding his arm. He got up and walked off the field. Kirby Smart said that staff would look at him during the break.

Steve Sarkisian was visibly frustrated at halftime, making his displeasure with the officiating crew known. The Texas head coach addressed what he perceived as biased calls, stating, “Hopefully they call them [Georgia] for a holding one of these times.” Sarkisian didn’t elaborate further, but the pointed comment spoke volumes, reflecting the tension on the field.

From here on, it was straight to Gunner Stockton, Georgia’s backup quarterback, a redshirt sophomore from Tiger, GA. The Bulldogs seized momentum in the third quarter. Running back Trevor Etienne broke free for a 10-yard touchdown run, and Woodring added the extra point to give Georgia a 10-6 lead at the 10:27 mark. The drive, which covered 75 yards in 10 plays, gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game.

Georgia added to their advantage in the closing moments of the quarter when Woodring converted a 24-yard field goal with 16 seconds left, capping a 61-yard drive and extending the lead to 13-6.

Texas refused to go quietly into the fourth quarter. Less than two minutes into the final frame, quarterback Quinn Ewers connected with wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. for a stunning 41-yard touchdown pass. Auburn’s extra point tied the game at 13-13 with 13:54 remaining.

However, the Longhorns faced a near disaster as Georgia mounted a clock-draining drive, maintaining possession from 13:54 to 4:32. Despite several tense moments, including fumbles that gave the Bulldogs additional opportunities, Texas’ defense held firm but could not keep Georgia from pushing the lead to 16-13 with a field goal.

With just under four minutes remaining, Texas aimed to mount a comeback. However, quarterback Quinn Ewers struggled under pressure, failing to convert on three consecutive drives. On a critical 3rd-and-17 following a sack, Ewers threw an interception to Georgia’s Daylen Everette, giving the Bulldogs possession with 3:35 left on the clock.

Georgia’s subsequent drive was cut short when quarterback Gunner Stockton threw his first interception of the game, picked off by Texas defensive back Jahdae Barron. This turnover gave the Longhorns another opportunity with limited time remaining. As Texas advanced downfield, a deep pass from Ewers drew a defensive pass interference call on Georgia’s Daylen Everette, positioning the Longhorns favorably as the clock wound down.

Texas Burt Auburn kicked from 37-yards out, leveling the game out at 16 a piece. Georgia drained the clock after the return and to overtime the game went. In overtime, Georgia won the toss, deferred to Texas. Arch Manning was at the helm for the first play, rushing on his first drive for five. Ewers was swapped for the second play. From there, the Georgia defense held Texas to a kick from Burt Auburn from 32-yards.

Georgia’s redshirt sophomore backup quarterback, Gunner Stockton, stepped up for the Bulldogs, leading them to a championship win that dashed Texas’ hopes for a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff (CFP). Selection Sunday is slated for tomorrow, and the Longhorns are projected to secure a 5th or 6th seed in the rankings.

Returning to Austin with potentially one more game on the horizon, Texas remains a strong contender for the National Championship for the second consecutive year. Texas, has some homework to do, and, I’m sure they’ll do just that.

Georgia knocks off Texas in overtime for SEC Championship

Georgia and Texas went to overtime in the SEC Championship Game. Talk about drama

The SEC Championship Game packed enough drama into it for an entire season. And it went to overtime.

Georgia won the SEC Championship in incredible fashion on Saturday in Atlanta, defeating Texas 22-19 in overtime.

Quarterback Carson Beck came off the sidelines for one play in overtime after backup Gunner Stockton had to leave because his helmet had been knocked off on a run.

With his right arm dangling, Beck handed off to Trevor Etienne. The running back scored from four yards and Georgia had the SEC title and a bye in the CFP.

Stockton came into the game to start the second half after Beck was injured on the final play of the first half. The injury kept him on the sidelines until he was forced in after Stockton’s helmet was knocked off in OT.

Brett Auburn had kicked a field goal as Texas took a 19-16 lead on its OT possession.

Both teams are 11-2 with both of Texas’ losses coming to Georgia.

The game went to overtime when Auburn kicked a 37-yard field goal with 18 seconds left in regulation.

Auburn, who was 2-of-4 in the game before the kick, was true with the critical attempt.

The 47-yard drive had been set up by an interception of Stockton.

The redshirt sophomore was pressed into service because Beck injured his throwing elbow on the final play of the first half.

Georgia had taken a 16-13 lead on a field goal with 4:32 left after Texas had tied the game on a 41-yard pass from Quinn Ewers to DeAndre Moore Jr. with 13:54 left in the fourth quarter.

Both Texas and  Georgia are in the College Football Playoff 12-team tournament. The win  gave the SEC Champion a bye in the first round of the tourney.

Georgia releases hype video before SEC Championship vs. Texas

The Georgia Bulldogs have dropped a hype trailed ahead of the SEC championship vs. Texas football

The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs (10-2, 6-2) play the No. 2 Texas Longhorns (11-1, 7-1) in the 2024 SEC championship game. Georgia is three-point underdogs, which should give the Dawgs a little bit more motivation.

Georgia’s hype video for the rematch of the Texas game is “No Retreat”. The video is narrated by former Georgia and current Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift.

Swift speaks on how directly facing challenges is part of Georgia’s championship DNA. Discomfort separates the great from the ordinary is another thing that he preaches. Enjoying the grind, being battle-tested, and being ready for whatever comes next.

He said a saying that has circulated around the program since head coach Kirby Smart took over, “For each other, with each other.”

The SEC championship game is Georgia’s highest stake game this season, Georgia fans want to see selflessness and the Dawgs bringing home the SEC title.
