Notre Dame trending the wrong way with 5-star Arizona defensive end

Sigh…

It’s an understatement to say that [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] is having a rough last two weeks on the recruiting trail.

There was a chance for the Irish to wash away their bad mojo with 5-star Arizona defensive end [autotag]Elijah Rushing[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 5-inch and 251 pound player is set to make his verbal commitment tomorrow, but it’s looking like he won’t be selecting Notre Dame.

Rushing took an official visit to South Bend in early June and the Irish made a solid impression. However, the 3rd ranked edge and 27th overall prospect according to the 247Sports composite has their director of recruiting, Steve Wiltfong, believing that Arizona is now the team to beat.

The Irish really needed another impact defensive lineman to pair with commit [autotag]Loghan Thomas[/autotag] for their 2024 recruiting class, but has yet to find one. This isn’t a knock on the other commits [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag], [autotag]Sean Sevillano Jr.[/autotag], or [autotag]Cole Mullins[/autotag], it’s just that they most likely aren’t prospects who will see the field immediately for the Irish.

It looks like the search will continue for [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and his coaching staff.

Ohio State misses on 2024 Florida defensive tackle, commits to Notre Dame

The Buckeyes weren’t chosen #GoBucks

It wasn’t meant to be for [autotag]Sean Sevillano Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag].

The Buckeyes entered the picture a bit late and couldn’t make up the ground as Sevillano Jr. committed to Notre Dame on Friday afternoon. He also held offers from Auburn and Miami.

The Canadian native isn’t rated as one of the best prospects in the country, the 87th defensive lineman and 920th overall player according to the 247Sports composite. Sevillano Jr. was viewed as more of a project, a player that would need a few years getting accustomed to the collegiate game before making an impact.

Many, including myself, won’t consider this a huge recruiting loss, but when you are included in the final group and aren’t chosen, it still stings a bit.

Scouts view: Notre Dame’s newest commit, defensive tackle Sean Sevillano Jr.

The Irish found a great prospect

Notre Dame got a solid recruiting win today when Canadian defensive tackle [autotag]Sean Sevillano Jr.[/autotag] verbally committed to the Irish.

The 6-foot, 2-inch and 315 pound interior lineman preps at Clearwater Academy International and although he isn’t the highest ranked recruit, Sevillano Jr. does bring a lot to the table.

He chose the Irish over Auburn, Ohio State, Miami and other schools, showing that Sevillano Jr.’s ranking of the 87th defensive lineman and 920th overall player according to the 247Sports composite might be a bit low.

Find out below what my scouts eye saw after watching Sevillano Jr.’s junior highlight reel and what to except out of him early in his Irish career.

Auburn DL target Sean Sevillano Jr. announces commitment

The three-star prospect picked Notre Dame over Auburn, Ohio State and Miami.

Three-star defensive lineman [autotag]Sean Sevillano Jr.[/autotag] is originally from Canada but thanks to training with former Auburn running back Tim Jessie he had plenty of interest in the Tigers.

That interest was mutual as the Tigers offered him a scholarship and hosted him for an unofficial visit in May. Sevillano Jr. included the Tigers in his final group alongside Ohio State, Notre Dame and Miami.

While they made the final cut, the Tigers were not the pick as he announced his commitment to Notre Dame Friday.

He is the No. 920 overall player and No. 87 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 125 player from Florida.

He was extremely productive last season for Clearwater Academy International, making 75 tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss and 19.0 sacks in 11 games.

The Tigers may have missed out on Sevillano Jr. but they are still in contention for several promising defensive linemen. Most notable is [autotag]Malik Blocton[/autotag], who the Tigers are the favorite to land.

They are also set to host four-star defensive lineman [autotag]LJ McCray[/autotag] for an official visit on June 12.

Auburn currently has five commitments in the 2024 recruiting cycle with the group being led by four-star quarterback [autotag]Walker White[/autotag].

Notre Dame adds 17th commitment to 2024 recruiting class

Welcome to Notre Dame.

Notre Dame landed their 17th commitment to the 2024 recruiting class on Friday as defensive tackle Sean Sevillano Jr. announced his decision publicly.  The future Irish defensive tackle is listed at 6-2, 300-pounds and has a three-star rating according to all the major recruiting outlets.

Sevillano plays his high school football at Clearwater Academy in Florida but is a native of Canada, somewhere Notre Dame has had success getting talent from before.

Sevillano’s ratings don’t jump off the page at you but he fills a position of need as the Irish look to add beef to their defensive front.  He’s the fourth defensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting class but the only that projects to spend the majority of his college time playing inside.

Sevillano was at one time believed to be leaning towards Ohio State but ultimately chose the Irish.  Along with the Buckeyes, Miami (Fla.), Auburn, and Wisconsin were a few of the over 25-programs to offer a scholarship.

Ohio State defensive tackle target to make commitment on Thursday

Is a BOOM coming? #GoBucks

The broken record is back, [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag]’s need for defensive commits in the 2024 class cannot be understated.

Of the 13 current commits of the class, just two are on defense and neither will play the line. Enter Canadian native [autotag]Sean Sevillano Jr.[/autotag], who decided to atttend Florida’s Clearwater Academy International to get more eyes on him.

Mission accomplished. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 300-pound defensive tackle has set his commitment date, Thursday, June 2. The 87th lineman and 913th overall player according to the 247Sports composite, will choose from a list of four schools: Notre Dame, Auburn, Miami and the Buckeyes.

Currently, the crystal balls don’t favor Ohio State; they point to the Irish. They could be wrong but for now, it doesn’t look like a boom is coming on Thursday.

Notre Dame football target will announce his commitment on Thursday

Notre Dame gets multiple crystal ball picks for 2024 defensive tackle

The Irish are trending the right way in the big tackles recruitment

As many [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] fans were awaiting the announcement of defensive end Loghan Thomas, they may have missed the fact that multiple 247Sports analysts have the Irish grabbing another defensive lineman.

[autotag]Sean Sevillano Jr.[/autotag], a 6-foot, 2-inch and 300 pound defensive tackle saw three crystal ball picks get logged for the Irish yesterday. The Canadian native plays for Clearwater Academy International in Florida and although his ranking isn’t high, he is still a player with a lot of upside.

His final three schools, Ohio State, Auburn and the Irish will all get official visits from Sevillano Jr. in June and most likely a commitment shortly after his visits.

Notre Dame offers huge Florida 2024 defensive tackle

The Irish are jumping in with an early offer to a fast-rising DT

If you are like me, you are itching to see [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] hit the football field for spring practice. It is a just about week away but until then we have recruiting to hold us over.

Recently, Florida defensive tackle [autotag]Sean Sevillano Jr.[/autotag] was one of the best players at the Under Armour Orlando camp and teams are really starting to notice. One of those teams is the Irish as they offered a scholarship to the massive prospect.

Sevillano Jr. stands 6-foot, 3-inches and weighs 300 pounds and is rated as the 950th overall player and 94th defensive lineman in the country by the On3 industry ranking.

With a recent offer from Ohio State and now the Irish joining his list, expect Sevillano Jr.’s ranking to be rising soon.
