‘SNL’s’ hilarious ‘First Take’ sketch that somehow didn’t make the show is too good

LOL.

I didn’t see last night’s Saturday Night Live because like many people I was having too much fun looking at all of the Aaron Rodgers jokes on Twitter after the Packers lost at home to the 49ers and had their season come to an abrupt end.

But apparently SNL must have had a really good show because this First Take sketch somehow didn’t make the broadcast. I don’t know that’s possible because this was really funny but hey, what do I know about producing SNL?

They totally nailed this whole segment and discussion and the impersonations of Stephen A. Smith and Michael Irvin were perfect.

Too good.

Twitter had reactions.

‘Saturday Night Live’ roasts Aaron Rodgers in cold open after Pat McAfee interview

See the skit starring Pete Davidson.

Aaron Rodgers said quite a few outrageous things to Pat McAfee on Friday after he tested positive for COVID-19. The world then found out he was unvaccinated against the virus and had used the word “immunized” months ago when asked about his vaccination status.

Nwow, on the latest Saturday Night Live, the show ripped him in its cold open.

The sketch starred Cecily Strong as Jeanine Pirro, who interviews Rodgers (Pete Davidson, in the same hat, shirt, long hair and beard as the Green Bay Packers QB).

There were some echoes of the quotes he delivered on Friday, and here’s perhaps the line to remember: “I never lied. I took all my teammates into a huddle, their faces three inches away from my wet mouth and told them, ‘Trust me, I’m more or less immunized.’ Go team!”

It went on from there with other guests, but the first two minutes were all about roasting Rodgers.

Norm Macdonald, who died on Tuesday, was a huge golf fan and avid follower of Tiger Woods

Macdonald often went to watch Tiger at major championships, though never the FedEx Cup Playoffs because he said he didn’t believe in the concept.

Norm Macdonald, a “Saturday Night Live” legend who also was a passionate fan of the game of golf, died on Tuesday, after a private battle with cancer, his manager Marc Gurvitz confirmed to USA TODAY. He was 61 years old.

Macdonald followed the sport with unmatched passion. He once had an idea for a TV show from Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, where he’d interview a fellow celebrity or athlete over 18 holes – an actual interview where he could really pick someone’s brain, get at something meaningful. Figure out what makes them tick.

“I’d always go to the cheapest network,” Macdonald told Golfweek in 2018. “I go for one where they asked who I’d be interviewing for 18 holes and I said Bob Uecker. Everybody was laughing. It was called the Nashville Network, and they all laughed. And one guy goes, ‘We were thinking about it last night and we’d have girls in bikinis at every hole. And the first guy you interview is (former pro wrestler) Bill Goldberg, and he body slams you.’ ”

While Macdonald never got the 18 holes thing to fly, he was a massive Tiger Woods fan and often went to watch at major championships, though never the FedEx Cup Playoffs because he said he didn’t believe in the concept.

“I love Tiger so much and predicted he’d come back. I never lost faith in Tiger,” Macdonald said. “I rank it as the best comeback in sports history. One reason is because he’s made like three comebacks, that’s why I had so much faith in him. I’ve seen him make comebacks before, I’ve seen him change his game. I didn’t think this is how he was going to do it.

“I was surprised he could hit it so long. I thought he was going to play like an old guy. On the par 5s, try to get on in three and close to the pin. That surprised me that he’s crushing the ball. That made me so happy.”

10 hilarious SNL sports sketches you totally forgot about

BUH BUH BUH BUH BUH BASK-ET-BALL

When you think of the best sports sketches throughout Saturday Night Live’s nearly 46-year history, chances are you think of all the high-profile athletes and coaches who’ve graced the stage at Studio 8H. Sure, the Peyton Manning United Way sketch is a classic and who could forget Michael Jordan’s appearance on Bill Swerski’s Superfans, but believe it or not, some of SNL’s funniest and most memorable sports sketches were the result of great writing and performances by the cast members themselves.

Here are some of the best. THIS IS NOT A RANKING. DO NOT @ ME.

Tommy Rees grows mustache amid pressure from Notre Dame quarterbacks

What do you think of this ‘stache?

I personally never have been a fan of facial hair. I can’t go more than a day without shaving. Even if I decided I wanted to grow a beard, I wouldn’t have the patience to put up with the itchiness that comes with it. That’s why in this regard, I’m glad I’m not Tommy Rees.

Per a tweet from Matt Freeman of Irish Sports Daily, Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator was “bullied” by his quarterbacks to grow a mustache. Here is the result:

It’s not a bad mustache at all. In fact, it fits the Chicago-area native well. All that’s missing is those goofy sunglasses and Bears attire, and he would fit right in with the Superfans. The only question is if he could nail that stereotypical Chicago accent.

All of this said, I’m still not going to grow anything out. Beards and mustaches might work for some people, but they just are not for me. If Rees ends up keeping his mustache throughout the season, good for him. Just hand me my razor.

Saturday Night Live hilariously spoofed Michael Jordan and ‘The Last Dance’

Classic MJ.

“The Last Dance” came along last summer, as sports were on pause and we were adjusting to pandemic living. Its nostalgia-laced look at the career of Michael Jordan hit perfectly, as did those bourbon-fueled sit-down interviews with MJ that immediately launched a dozen memes.

Here we are all these many months later — creeping ever-so-close to normalcy — and “The Last Dance” still has enough currency that it’s being mocked by Saturday Night Life.

Host Keegan-Michael Key played Jordan Saturday night, but the performance that makes this work is Heidi Gardner as John Michael Wozniak, Jordan’s bodyguard.

We got the shrug. We got “And I took that personally.” It’s all here, and there’s even Charles Barkley.

“Bet your pants, then.”

Saturday Night Live spoofed LaVar Ball with incredible Weekend Update spot

So good.

Saturday Night Live has at times meandered along, riffing largely on the events of the week in predictable, but charming, ways. There’s just rarely much electricity in the product anymore.

But when it comes to having Kenan Thompson portray LaVar Ball. the show has … NEVA LOST.

Thompson-as-Ball stopped by the Weekend Update desk last night to give his thoughts on his son LaMelo’s incredible rookie season and it was genuinely laugh-out-loud funny for almost the entire bit. What makes the whole thing work, really, is that Thompson can barely hold it together. He’s being absolutely ridiculous — and yet, try as he might, he still can’t sound as grandiose and unwired as LaVar himself.

Thompson can never really get all the way into character. He’s too excited to deliver the next joke. And it works beautifully.

“Neva Lost to Godzilla. Neva to the Zilla.”

WATCH: Kenan Thompson revives LaVar Ball character on SNL, jokes about LaMelo Ball and Hornets

On Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, Kenan Thompson returned as his LaVar Ball character to discuss COVID-19, LaMelo and Big Baller Brand.

This weekend’s Saturday Night Live featured the return of a memorable character on Weekend Update in LaVar Ball, played by Kenan Thompson. It had been over a year-and-a-half since Ball appeared on SNL and the return was long overdue.

With both LaMelo and Lonzo thriving, the former the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, there was plenty of content for Thompson’s LaVar character to discuss.

Before he discussed either of his sons, Ball made jokes about having all the COVID vaccines available plus his own home remedy, LaVartrex. Then, they jumped into “the most storied franchise in all of basketball,” the Charlotte Hornets and LaMelo.

LaVar declared that LaMelo not only had Rookie of the Year locked up, but also MVP and “prettiest hog at the Mecklenburg County Fair” as well. After LaMelo wins all the awards, LaVar also noted he would unite both North and South Carolina into “Carolosaus.”

He also debuted Big Baller Brand’s newest shoe, the CaraMelos. On top of being an entirely chocolate shoe, each pair of CaraMelos includes caramel inside the shoe as well as Alexa. In line with the exorborant prices on Big Baller Brand’s website, the shoes cost $2000 with a 7-month waitlist and available only between the hours of 3-6 p.m. Mountain Time.

It’s a hilarious revival of the character and hopefully one that makes multiple more appearances as the Ball brothers continue to flourish in the NBA.

Hilarious ‘SNL’ skit hilariously jokes about similarities between Andy Reid and Bruce Arians

LOL!

Obviously, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers counterpart Bruce Arians don’t really look alike.

But of course, Saturday Night Live had to joke about how they kind of do, especially when you’re doing a cold open on the CBS Super Bowl pre-game show, in which the always-funny Aidy Bryant plays both of them nearly at the same time.

The CBS crew interviews Bryant as Reid, then cuts to speaking to Arians, which means Bryant has to do a VERY quick wardrobe and facial hair change. That’s really the funny part about it, especially when the Chiefs logo peeks out from under her Bucs vest:

Hilarious!

‘Saturday Night Live’ roasted the Jets’ horrible season in a hilarious ‘Sportsmax’ skit

Amazing.

In response to President-elect Joe Biden’s election win over President Trump this past November, right-wing media like Fox News, Newsmax and OAN have largely peddled unfounded conspiracy theories about Trump’s loss.

Newsmax and OAN, in particular, have dove into conspiracies that Fox News wouldn’t even air — basically denying reality as Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are set to be sworn in on Jan. 20.

But what if the sports world had an off-the-rails, reality-denying network for the most desperate fans to turn to?

This weekend’s Saturday Night Live episode answered that question with its “Sportsmax” skit, presenting the winless Jets as actually an undefeated juggernaut that’s just been victimized in a grand NFL conspiracy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GP_K5czbny4

The skit was especially hilarious when Timothee Chalamet and Pete Davidson joined in as the Jets-iest Jets fans ever.

“Let’s look at this logically, OK. Only a really bad team would only score three points in a football game. And the Jets are the greatest team ever.”

Ah, they’re so close.
