Tennessee (6-5) defeated Wofford (7-5), 85-63, Tuesday at Food City Center.

The Lady Vols led, 35-25, at halftime.

Rickea Jackson returned to the Tennessee’s lineup against the Terriers after missing eight games due to a lower leg injury. She recorded 11 points, six rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes. Jackson was one of four Lady Vols to score 10-plus points in the contest.

Jewel Spear was the Lady Vols’ leading scorer with 18 points, including 10 points during the first half.  Karoline Striplin recorded 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, while Sara Puckett posted 12 points, five rebounds and three assists for Tennessee.

Jasmine Powell totaled nine points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Lady Vols.

Tennessee (5-5) defeated Eastern Kentucky (8-2), 72-63, Sunday at Food City Center.

The Lady Vols led, 36-31, at halftime.

The victory ended Tennessee’s three-game losing streak.

Karoline Striplin totaled 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. She scored 13 points before halftime.

Jewel Spear scored nine of her 12 points in the second-half. She also recorded seven rebounds in the contest.

Sara Puckett, Tess Darby and Jasmine Powell scored nine points each for Tennessee. Powell also finished with eight rebounds and five assists.

The Colonels’ Antwainette Walker led all scorers with 24 points. She also totaled five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

The Lady Vols will have nine days off. Tennessee returns to action on Dec. 19 against Wofford. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST at Food City Center.

No. 13 Ohio State (6-1) defeated No. 22 Tennessee (4-3), 78-58, Sunday at Food City Center.

The Buckeyes led, 43-28, at halftime.

Sunday’s contest was the second consecutive home loss for the Lady Vols. Tennessee lost to Notre Dame in the ACC/SEC Challenge at home on Wednesday.

Karoline Striplin was Tennessee’s leading scorer, totaling 11 points, including nine after halftime. Sara Puckett recorded 10 points and six rebounds, while Tamari Key finished with nine.

Ohio State won its sixth straight game after losing its season opener to USC, 83-74, Nov. 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Buckeyes had four players score 10-plus points. Cotie McMahon led all scorers with 19 points.

No. 21 Tennessee (4-2) defeated No. 20 Oklahoma (5-2), 76-73, Saturday in the Elevance Health Women’s Tip-Off at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Florida.

The Sooners led, 38-32, at halftime.

Jasmine Powell led the Lady Vols with 19 points, including 13 after halftime. She was one of three Tennessee players to score 10-plus points against Oklahoma.

Jewel Spear recorded 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal for Tennessee. Sara Puckett finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Vols.

Jillian Hollingshead also had eight rebounds and four points for Tennessee.

Sahara Williams led the Sooners with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Tennessee defeated Indiana, 71-57, in its first game during the Elevance Health Women’s Tip-Off.

No. 20 Tennessee (3-1) defeated Troy (0-3), 100-73, Sunday at Food City Center.

The Lady Vols led, 46-30, at halftime.

Five Tennessee players scored 10-plus points and two Lady Vols recorded a double-double.

Karoline Striplin totaled 19 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks, while Jillian Hollingshead recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds for Tennessee.

Destinee Wells recorded 18 points and eight assists, while Sara Puckett finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Vols.

Tennessee outscored the Trojans, 25-9, after the two teams were tied, 21-21, after the first quarter.

Kaiya Wynn had 10 points and five rebounds for Tennessee.

Tennessee will next play Indiana on Thursday in Fort Myers, Florida (6 p.m. EST, Fox).

No. 15 Tennessee (2-1) defeated Memphis (1-2). 84-74, in overtime Monday at Food City Center.

The Tigers led, 36-32, at halftime.

Rickea Jackson did not play for the Lady Vols due to injury.

Sara Puckett had a career-high 24 points and was one of four Tennessee players to score 10-plus points against Memphis. Puckett also totaled eight rebounds, two assists one block and one steal.

Jewel Spear posted a double-double as she recorded 19 points and 12 rebounds. Jasmine Powell added 17 points and six rebounds, while Jillian Hollingshead finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Tennessee next plays Sunday against Troy. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. EST at Food City Center.

Florida State basketball defeats Lady Vols.

No. 22 Florida State (2-0) defeated No. 12 Tennessee (1-1), 92-91, Thursday at Donald L. Tucker Center in  Tallahassee, Florida.

The Seminoles led, 54-46, at halftime.

The Lady Vols had four players total 10-plus points. Rickea Jackson posted a double-double as she recorded 31 points and 17 rebounds. She also finished the contest with four assists.

Jewel Spear, in her second game for Tennessee and a transfer from Wake Forest, had 18 points, five rebounds and three assists. Sara Puckett totaled 15 points and four assists, while Tess Darby recorded 10 points and nine rebounds for Tennessee.

Tennessee next plays Monday against Memphis. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST at Food City Center.

No. 12 Tennessee (1-0) defeated Florida A&M (0-1). 93-64, Tuesday at Food City Center in the season opener for both schools.

The Lady Vols led  the Rattlers, coached by former Tennessee standout and Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer Bridgette Gordon, 46-30, at halftime.

In her first game for the Lady Vols, Jewel Spear, a transfer from Wake Forest, totaled 20 points and was one of four Tennessee players to record 10-plus points. Karoline Striplin totaled 20 points and seven rebounds.

Rickea Jackson recorded 13 points and seven rebounds, while Kaiya Wynn tied her career high with 12 points.

Sara Puckett totaled nine points, while Jasmine Powell finished with seven.

Tennessee next plays Thursday at No. 22 Florida State. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST in Tallahassee, Florida.

Sara Puckett named SEC Freshman of the Week

Tennessee’s Sara Puckett named SEC Freshman of the Week.

Sara Puckett has been named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.

Puckett, a forward and guard for the No. 9 Lady Vols (8-0), averaged 10 points and 2.5 rebounds per game last week as Tennessee defeated Virginia Tech, 64-58, to end the Hokies’ 63-game home-court winning streak against nonconference opponents.

Puckett, a native of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, recorded 15 points and three rebounds against Virginia Tech.

Puckett, who is averaging 7.5 points per game this season, opened last week by totaling five points, two rebounds and one assist in Tennessee’s 76-48 victory over Tennessee Tech.

UT returns to action Sunday when it hosts Georgia State. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. EST.
