Lady Vols fall to Middle Tennessee State, suffers third consecutive loss.

Middle Tennessee State (7-3) defeated Tennessee (4-5), 73-62, Wednesday at Propst Arena and Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Wednesday’s loss is the third consecutive for the Lady Vols, who fell out of the top 25 after losing at home to Ohio State on Sunday.

The Blue Raiders led, 37-33, at halftime after being tied, 20-20, at the end of the first quarter.

Tennessee’s Karoline Striplin scored a game-high 29 points. She was the only player to score 10-plus pints in the contest for Tennessee.

Striplin also recorded three rebounds and two assists.

Jasmine Powell recorded nine points, five rebounds and four assists, while Destinee Wells finished with eight points and three assists.

Jallynn Gregory scored 22 points to lead the Blue Raiders. She also totaled five rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Notre Dame defeats the Lady Vols in the ACC/SEC Challenge.

No. 14 Notre Dame (6-1) defeated No. 22 Tennessee (4-3), 74-69, in the ACC/SEC Challenge Tuesday at Food City Center.

The Lady Vols led, 37-25, at halftime and had a 16-point lead in the third quarter.

The Fighting Irish converted 9-of-10 field goal attempts in the third quarter to pull to within, 53-48, entering the third quarter.

KK Bransford gave Notre Dame a 69-68 lead after converting a free throw with 47 seconds remaining in the contest.

Tennessee’s Jasmine Powell converted a free throw to tie the game before Notre Dame made four free throws.

Four Lady Vols scored 10-plus points in the game.

Jasmine Powell totaled 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Destinee Wells recorded 13 points, five assists and three rebounds, while Jewel Spear had 11 points and five rebounds. Karoline Striplin finished with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Maddy Westbeld and Natalija Marshall scored 15 points each to lead Notre Dame.

Tennessee defeats Trojans, 100-73, as two Lady Vols record double-doubles

No. 20 Tennessee (3-1) defeated Troy (0-3), 100-73, Sunday at Food City Center.

The Lady Vols led, 46-30, at halftime.

Five Tennessee players scored 10-plus points and two Lady Vols recorded a double-double.

Karoline Striplin totaled 19 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks, while Jillian Hollingshead recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds for Tennessee.

Destinee Wells recorded 18 points and eight assists, while Sara Puckett finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Vols.

Tennessee outscored the Trojans, 25-9, after the two teams were tied, 21-21, after the first quarter.

Kaiya Wynn had 10 points and five rebounds for Tennessee.

Tennessee will next play Indiana on Thursday in Fort Myers, Florida (6 p.m. EST, Fox).

Destinee Wells signs with Lady Vols

Belmont transfer Destinee Wells signs with the Lady Vols.

Transfer guard Destinee Wells signed with the Lady Vols on Monday, the University of Tennessee announced.

Wells played at Belmont from 2020-23.

“We are excited to add Destinee Wells to the Lady Vol family,” Tennessee head coach Kellie Harper said in a press release. “She possesses a wealth of experience at the point guard position and is a three-level scorer who shoots with impressive accuracy in each of those phases. We are so pleased to have a person and basketball player of Destinee’s caliber joining our program.”

Wells started 90 of 91 contests at Belmont, averaging 18.1 points, 4.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
