Giants’ Malik Nabers has sights set on 1,000-yard season

New York Giants rookie receiver Malik Nabers is focusing on having a 1,000-yard season and breaking some franchise rookie records.

The New York Giants selected LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft because they knew he had star potential.

Nabers has had a bit of a rough go thus far in his rookie season, missing two weeks with a concussion, dealing with a dreaded case of the drops, and more recently, playing through hip and groin ailments.

His unfiltered comments to the media regarding the manner in which the team was using his talents have also put extra pressure on him.

But here we are, in Week 15 with four games to go and Nabers still has a chance to make his mark in both eat NFL and Giants record books.

Nabers has 80 receptions this season. The Giants’ record for receptions is 107, set by Steve Smith back in 2009. The rookie record is 91 shared by Odell Beckham Jr. (2014) and Saquon Barkley (2018).

Nabers is averaging 7.3 receptions per game, which means he should end the season with 109 receptions, which would be a new franchise record.

One record Nabers will have difficulty breaking, however, is Beckham’s rookie record for receiving yards (1,305) but 1,000 yards is well within his grasp.

On Wednesday, Nabers spoke about 1,000 yards being a badge of honor for a wide receiver.

“Yeah. I mean, as a receiver, that’s your landmark for over a year,” he said. “College, whether it be the league, you want to hit 1,000 yards. So yeah, 1,000 yards is in my head for sure.”

The two missed games are probably going to cost Nabers the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. He is up against several quarterbacks (Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams) but his main competition is Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, who has 87 receptions this season.

Still, records and awards aside, Nabers has made the most of the opportunities in front of him. Considering his issues and the Giants’ constantly spinning quarterback wheel, he’s held up well.

Nabers is the only player in NFL history with five or more catches in 10 of his first 11 career games. His 80 receptions are the most by a player in their first 11 games all-time.

The best is yet to come, Giant fans. Hang in there.

Saquon Barkley sets franchise rushing record with Eagles

Will Saquon Barkley rush for 2,000 yards after breaking the Eagles single-season rushing record?

The Philadelphia Eagles franchise record for the most rushing yards in a single season is no longer held by a Pitt Panther. It is owned by a Nittany Lion.

[autotag]Saquon Barkley[/autotag] rushed for 124 yards to bring his season rushing yardage mark up to 1,624 yards, continuing to improve on his career-best season in his first year with the Eagles. His nine-yard run in the fourth quarter moved Barkley into first place in Eagles franchise history for the most rushing yards in a single season. And Barkley and the Eagles still have four more games to play this season.

The previous Eagles single-season rushing record was held by LeSean McCoy with 1,607 yards in 2013. Barkley broke the franchise record in just 13 games.

Barkley is making a serious push for a 2,000-yard rushing season, a feat that has only been accomplished eight times in NFL history and has not been seen in the NFC since Adrian Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards in 2012 with the Minnesota Vikings.

Meanwhile, the New York Giants fell to 2-11 with another loss on Sunday. Barkley picked a good year to change his scenery in the division.

Bills QB Josh Allen solidified his MVP case with 6 TD performance in 44-42 loss to Rams

Bills QB Josh Allen solidified his MVP case with 6 TD performance in 44-42 loss to Rams

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has won two MVP awards, and at one point this season, he appeared destined to win two straight, but Josh Allen has made his case this vote may end up being a runaway.

Playing in front of a national television audience, Allen accounted for 424 total yards and six touchdowns as Buffalo fell to the Los Angeles Rams, 44-42, at SoFi Stadium.

In the thrilling loss, Allen became the first player in NFL history with three pass touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in a single game.

Allen was 22 of 37 passing, for 342 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and no interceptions. Allen had 82 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on the ground, finishing with a 117.2 passer rating.

Jackson will be there in the end, as he’s on pace for career highs in passing yards (4,302) and passing touchdowns (38), and he’s only thrown three interceptions through 13 games played. Jackson also has rushed for 678 yards and, at one point, was on pace for 4,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards.

Saquon Barkley has made a great argument, but the Eagles running back will probably need to rush for over 2,200+ yards and break Eric Dickerson’s NFL rushing record to have any shot at winning MVP after Josh Allen’s performance on Sunday in Los Angeles.

The Eagles are 11-2, winners of nine straight games after a 22-16 win over the much improved Carolina Panthers (3-10) at Lincoln Fnaincla Field.

The afternoon saw Saquon Barkley break LeSean McCoy’s franchise record for rushing yards in a season. This set Philadelphia up for a huge intrastate matchup against the Steelers (10-3) in Week 15, which should certainly be the NFL’s game of the week.

With preparation for Pittsburgh set to begin, we’re looking at the top photos from Sunday’s win.

Carolina Panthers vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Everything we know

The Carolina Panthers, for the third straight week, gave their heavily-favored opponent a scare. But unfortunately for them, it ended the same way the last two did. Here’s everything we know from Sunday’s nail-biting loss to the Philadelphia Eagles:

The Carolina Panthers, for the third straight week, gave their heavily-favored opponent a scare. But unfortunately for them, it ended the same way the last two did.

Here’s everything we know from Sunday’s nail-biting loss to the Philadelphia Eagles:

  • As expected, running back Saquon Barkley was the engine of the Philadelphia offense. The Offensive Player of the Year favorite rushed for a game-high 124 yards on 20 carries.
  • Carolina’s running back also kept his offense moving. Chuba Hubbard, who reached the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career, notched 92 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.
  • Quarterback Bryce Young kept the Panthers alive with his clutch playmaking ability. Young—who completed 19 of his 34 throws for 191 yards, a touchdown and an interception—helped Carolina convert on three of their five fourth-down attempts on the day.
  • The Panthers defense also gave the team a chance for the upset, holding quarterback Jalen Hurts to just 108 passing yards while racking up four sacks.

That clutch play from Young really showed up on the Panthers’ very last possession of the game, which started on their own 3-yard line down by six. He was able to trek his unit down to the Philadelphia 37-yard line, where they faced a fourth-and-9 with 37 seconds remaining.

Young, however, could not connect with wideout Adam Thielen—giving the Eagles possession and the ballgame.

  • RB Chuba Hubbard: 26 carries, 92 yards, touchdown
  • WR Adam Thielen: nine receptions, 102 yards
  • LB Josey Jewell: 10 tackles, 1.5 sacks

Carolina’s mini-NFC East tour will continue into Week 15, when they travel to face the Dallas Cowboys (5-7).

Eagles vs Panthers: what to bet in today’s game

The Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) return home on Sunday to host the Carolina Panthers (3-9). While the Panthers have improved in the last month, the Eagles need every win to fight for the first seed in the NFC.

The Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) return home on Sunday to host the Carolina Panthers (3-9). While the Panthers have improved in the last month, the Eagles need every win to fight for the first seed in the NFC.

Right now on BetMGM, the Eagles are heavily favorited (-900) with the Panthers being huge road dogs (+600). The over/under is set at 46 total points at (-110) odds in either direction.

Here are some great bets to make for Sunday’s game, odds courtesy of BetMGM.

Panthers First Quarter (+230)

The Eagles have struggled this season to score in the first quarter, so I wouldn’t be surprised (nor worried) if the Panthers take the first quarter win. If you don’t want to take any money lines, this would be your smartest bet.

Jalen Hurts O 201.5 Passing Yards (-110)

At this point in the season, the Panthers are somewhat prepared for Saquon Barkley. In the chance that the Eagles make this game a game, they’ll need to rely on Hurts’ passing game. As they approach playoffs, the Eagles are going to need to keep the passing game strong.

DeVonta Smith Over 47.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

I don’t think BetMGM got the memo that Smith will be back in the game this weekend. He is going to have a baller game and likely come back like nothing left. The only logical reason why Smith would have under 47 yards is if coach Nick Sirianni limits his play time.

Jalen Hurts credits Eagles increased physicality this season to padded practices

Jalen Hurts credits Eagles increased physicality this season to padded practice

The Eagles are one of the most physical teams in the NFL, and their change in identity began with their late-season collapse last season. Vic Fangio entered as defensive coordinator, while Howie Roseman signed Saquon Barkley, Zack Baun, and Mekhi Becton, among others, to help bring physicality and attitude to a Super Bowl contender.

Fangio’s addition spawned more padded and physical practices, which resulted in a 10-2 team and eight straight wins.

In Week 13, Baltimore was supposed to be the more physical team and the bullies of the AFC, but Philadelphia had the most rushing yards and highest yards per carry against the Ravens all season.

The Eagles have been the dominating opponents at the line of scrimmage throughout their win streak, and a significant reason was Landon Dickerson, Jordan Mailata, and Lane Johnson requesting a more focused rushing attack from head coach Nick Sirianni.

Saquon Barkley continues NFL MVP push with player of the month honor

Former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley adds another award to his season’s accomplishments.

It has been easy to see how much a change of scenery has seemingly benefitted former Penn State running back [autotag]Saquon Barkley[/autotag]. Fresh off a 107-yard outing with a touchdown in a victory for the Philadelphia Eagles over the Baltimore Ravens, Barkley was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month.

Barkley was named the NFC’s top offensive player after averaging 194.3 total yards per game with 626 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, and 151 receiving yards. Barkley set a career-high single-game rushing total with 255 rushing yards in a primetime victory on the road against the Los Angeles Rams. Barkley opened December on Sunday by outrushing Baltimore’s Derrick Henry to build his lead for the NFL rushing title.

Barkley is leading the NFL with 1,499 rushing yards, which is already a career-high for the former All-Big Ten running back. His 11 rushing touchdowns match his career-best from his rookie season with the New York Giants.

Barkley is assembling quite the MVP-caliber season and currently has the second-best Associated Press NFL MVP odds behind Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Barkley is emerging as a runaway favorite to be named the AP Offensive Player of the Year. Barkley has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week four times this season, including twice in November.

Barkley and the Eagles will host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday as they continue to push closer to a division title.
