Cubs at Giants picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 5, Cubs 4

Moneyline

The Cubs, even with their 2 straight wins over the Giants, are still only 13-20 on the road. They have won 3 games in a row only twice this season and their only road sweep was against the 16-50 A’s.

The Giants have not been swept in a home series this season.

BET GIANTS (-145).

Run line/Against the spread

The Cubs are 34-30 ATS this season while the Giants are 31-33 ATS overall. San Francisco is 3-7 ATS in their last 10.

I like them for the outright win because the Cubs have not been great on the road and the Giants have not been swept at home this season, but I don’t like them enough to think they will win by at least 2 runs.

PASS.

Over/Under

Neither game in the series has reached 9 total runs, but the Giants’ previous 4 games all had at least 9 total runs. At least 1 game in each of the Giants’ last 4 series had 9 or more total runs. Only 1 of the Cubs’ last 12 games has reached 9 total runs.

BET OVER 8.5 (-115).

The Chicago Cubs (27-36) and San Francisco Giants (32-31) meet Saturday for the 2nd game of a 3-game series. First pitch from Oracle Park is set for 7:35 p.m. ET (FOX). Season series: Cubs lead 1-0

Chicago won 3-2 as a +103 road underdog Friday in the series opener. San Francisco held a 1-0 lead off the back of an RBI double in the 3rd inning from 2B Thairo Estrada but the Cubs capitalized on a 3-run 7th inning to secure the victory.

Friday’s game snapped a 4-game losing skid for Chicago and 3-game win streak for San Francisco. The Cubs have won 4 of their last 10 games and are 12-20 on the road while the Giants are 5-5 in their last 10 outings and 17-16 at home.

Giants 4, Cubs 3

Moneyline

LEAN GIANTS (-150).

The Giants are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings with the Cubs and have won two of the last 3 times they’ve squared off. The Cubs have struggled on the road and while the Giants are not a great home team it is still hard for me to believe that they will allow Chicago to come away with back-to-back road games.

The Under is also 7-3 in the last 10 meetings overall and 5-0 in the last 5 meetings overall.

Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants odds and lines, with expert MLB picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Cubs (26-36) and the San Francisco Giants (32-30) kick off a 3-game series Friday at Oracle Park. First pitch is scheduled for 10:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cubs vs. Giants odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting of 2023; Giants won the season series 5-2 in 2022

The Cubs have dropped 4 in a row, and Chicago is just 2-5 in the first 7 games of a 10-game road trip. Chicago is averaging just 1.8 runs per game across the past 4 losses and has 2 or fewer runs in 4 of the 7 games on the trip so far — including a pair of shutout setbacks.

The Giants are coming off a 3-game sweep of the division rival Colorado Rockies on the road Tuesday through Thursday. San Francisco has averaged 5.5 runs per game across its last 17 outings but has allowed 4 or more runs in each of the past 4 contests.

Cubs at Giants picks and predictions

Prediction

Cubs 6, Giants 4

Moneyline

It’s bit of a leap of faith, but back the CUBS (+100) as the short ‘dogs at even money.

Chicago has lost 4 in a row coming in, but Stroman has pitched well lately, and the pitching advantage is in the favor of the visitors over DeSclafani and the Giants.

Run line/Against the spread

The Cubs +1.5 (-210) will cost you over 2 times your potential return if you require a little insurance and you cannot back Chicago straight up. While the Cubs are just 5-18 in the past 23 games on the road, they have won 20 of the previous 28 series openers.

The Giants -1.5 (+170) have dropped 4 of the past 5 at home, while going 1-4 in the past 5 at home against a right-handed starting pitcher, too.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 7.5 (-110) is easily my favorite wager in this series opener.

The winds are usually gusting out to straightaway center field or the power alleys at Oracle Park, and Friday is no exception. We’ll have a jet stream blowing 20-23 mph, aiding the batters and making life miserable for both of the starting hurlers. I have more faith in Stroman being able to keep the ball down and inside the yard than DeSclafani.

Pittsburgh Pirates at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at San Francisco Giants odds and lines, with expert MLB picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Pirates (27-27) wrap up a 3-game series with the San Francisco Giants (28-27) Wednesday at Oracle Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pirates vs. Giants odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: tied 1-1

The Pirates halted a 3-game losing skid with a 2-1 victory vs. the Giants in the middle game of the series Tuesday night. It was a well-pitched game, which was in stark contrast to a 14-4 setback in the series opener on Memorial Day.

Pittsburgh is still just 7-19 in the past 26 games overall, cashing in just 2 of the past 7 games on the road. The Bucs haven’t been good at stacking wins, going just 1-6 in the past 7 outings after a victory.

The Giants have alternated losses and wins in the past 4 games. Plating just 1 run Tuesday was a disappointment, as the wind was blowing out to left-center field and the Giants had managed 42 runs in the 5 games prior to the setback.

Pirates at Giants projected starters

RHP Mitch Keller vs. LHP Alex Wood

Keller (6-1, 3.01 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.02 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 11.1 K/9 in 68 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 6 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 8 K in an 11-6 road win vs. the Seattle Mariners Friday
  • 2023 Road splits: 3-1, 3.79 ERA (35 2/3 IP, 15 ER) with a .230 opponent batting average (OBA) in 6 starts

Wood (1-0, 3.51 ERA) makes his 7th start and 8th overall appearance. He has a 1.44 WHIP, 4.6 BB/9 and 9.1 K/9 in 25 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 5 BB, 5 K in a 15-1 road win vs. the Milwaukee Brewers Friday
  • 2023 Home splits: 0-0, 3.95 ERA (13 2/3 IP, 6 ER) with 4 BB, 14 K and a .212 OBA in 3 starts

Pirates at Giants picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 4, Pirates 3

Moneyline

The GIANTS (-125) are worth playing in the getaway day game.

Both pitchers have been tremendous to start the season, and like we saw Tuesday, even if the wind is blowing out briskly to the power alley in left-center field, good pitchers can still keep the ball in the yard.

The Bucs have failed to win in 6 of their past 7 tries following a victory, and Tuesday’s win was their first in 6 tries at Oracle Park.

Run line/Against the spread

The Pirates +1.5 (-210) will cost you over 2 times your potential return, if you require a little bit of insurance, and just cannot bring yourself to play Pittsburgh straight up.

AVOID.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The UNDER 7.5 (-105) is worth a look in this day game on the Bay.

Keller seems to enjoy pitching in the daytime, allowing just 12 ER in 36 2/3 innings under the sun while allowing a .206 OBA.

The Under is 17-8-1 in the past 26 games during Game 3 of a series for Pittsburgh, while going 4-1 in the past 5 following a win.

The Under is 3-1-1 in San Francisco’s past 5 home games against a right-handed starting pitcher, too.

Pirates at Giants picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 6, Pirates 4

Moneyline

The Pirates have only 6 wins in their last 25 games while the Giants have 11 wins in their last 14.

The Pirates have been held to 3 runs or fewer in 6 of their last 8 games.

The Giants will rely on their bullpen in this game. Their bullpen ERA this year is 4.48.

While the line for the Giants on the moneyline isn’t bad, the run line is better and trends favor going with that bet.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Of the Giants’ last 15 wins, 12 have been by more than 1 run while the Pirates have lost by 2 or more runs in 15 of their last 19 losses.

BET GIANTS -1.5 (+140).

Over/Under

For both teams, 3 of their last 4 games have had had more than 8 total runs. They combined for 18 runs in Monday’s opener. Also, in 2 of Brebbia’s 3 openers, the total surpassed 8 runs.

BET OVER 8.5 (-115).

Pirates at Giants picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 4, Giants 3

Moneyline

The Pirates have won their last 2 series openers they have played and then have lost 2 in a row. They are 14-13 on the road this season and Hill has had great career success against the Giants.

San Francisco is 10-3 in its last 13 games and DeSclafani has not been as effective in his last 4 starts and has struggled throughout his career against the Pirates.

If there is a game in this series to pick the underdog Pirates to win, it is this one.

BET PIRATES (+115).

Run line/Against the spread

The Pirates are 27-25 ATS on the season while the Giants are 27-26 ATS.

The Pirates are 21-18 ATS as the underdog, but betting them on the moneyline is far more profitable. Of the last 6 games they covered, they won 5 of them outright.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Four of the 6 games these teams played against each other last season had totals of fewer than 9 runs.

Ten of the Pirates’ last 17 games have had 8 or fewer total runs.

Five of the Giants’ last 7 outings have had 8 or fewer.

BET UNDER 8.5 (-115).
