[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The San Diego Padres (69-53) and Colorado Rockies (44-78) open a 3-game set at Coors Field Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rockies lead 6-4

The Padres are coming off a 3-game sweep of the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. They won 8-2 as -132 favorites in the Wednesday finale as the Over (8.5) hit. San Diego is tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for 2nd place in the NL West — 2 games back of the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers — and the top NL Wild Card spot.

The Rockies were swept in 3 games at the Arizona Diamondbacks. They wrapped up the series with an 11-4 loss as +183 underdogs Wednesday with the Over (9) cashing. Colorado is 5th in the NL West and owns the 2nd-worst record in MLB.

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 7, Rockies 3

Moneyline

The Padres (-165) are 19-4 since the All-Star break and have won the last 2 meetings between these teams. However, it’s hard to stay profitable long term in MLB betting into lines with this much vig.

PASS. Bet the run line and/or total instead.

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres won 10-2 in Waldron’s last start vs. Colorado and outscored the Pirates 13-3 in their most recent series. Twelve of San Diego’s 19 wins since the break have been by multiple runs, while Colorado has lost Quantrill’s last 2 starts by 3 or more.

BET PADRES -1.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Waldron has given up 3 or fewer ER in 14 of his last 17 starts, and Quantrill has allowed 3 or fewer in 3 of his last 4. The Padres will likely score 6 or more runs, but it may not be enough to cash the Over with such a high total.

BET UNDER 11.5 (-120).

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The San Diego Padres (13-13) take on the Colorado Rockies (6-18) Wednesday in the 3rd game of a 4-game set at Coors Field at 8:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tied 1-1

Colorado rocked the Padres 7-4 Tuesday. The Padres got out to a 4-1 lead in the 3rd and didn’t score again. OF Jackson Merrill went 2 for 3 Tuesday, and his .467 batting average (21 for 45) is the highest road mark in baseball. The Padres are tied for 9th with 4.8 R/game and are 10th with a 3.85 ERA. They are 7-5 on the road thus far.

2B Brendan Rodgers‘ lone hit was the difference Tuesday as it went for a grand slam. The Rockies have just 6 wins on the year, and 4 of them have come at home. Their 6-18 start has tied their worst start in their 32 years as a franchise.

Padres at Rockies projected starters

RHP Matt Waldron vs. TBD

Waldron (0-2, 4.74 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.53 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 over 19 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 2 K Friday
  • Home/road career splits: 1-1, 3.04 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 5.7 K/9 in 5 road starts; 0-4, 5.61 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 8.6 K/9 in 7 home games (5 starts)
  • Has never faced Rockies before

The Rockies have yet to announce a starter for Wednesday.

  • Rockies are last in MLB with a 5.68 ERA and 1.66 WHIP
  • Rockies’ bullpen is 23rd in MLB with a 4.88 ERA and last with a 1.58 WHIP

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 7, Rockies 3

Moneyline

The Padres should rebound here as the Rockies could wind up going with a bullpen game. However, dropping -160 on a .500 team with an unknown on the hill isn’t a good use of funds.

Instead, let’s go with MATT WALDRON OVER 3.5 K’S (-135). He has 4+ K’s in 3 of 4 starts, and the Rockies are the 5th-easiest to whiff in baseball.

Run line/Against the spread

We’re projecting a multi-run win for San Diego here, but I don’t like betting -110 on it. Let’s stick with Waldron and take MATT WALDRON UNDER 16.5 OUTS (-135). He has never pitched in Coors Field. He relies on a 91-mph 4-seamer, a knuckleball, sinker, sweeper and cutter. That’s not the repertoire that you can control in the altitude. He also hasn’t pitched 5 2/3 in any of his starts this season.

Over/Under

This one can go either way, but I have trouble betting an Over 11 when Colorado is tied for 24th at 3.7 R/game. The first game of this series went Under, and Tuesday’s game would have pushed.

LEAN UNDER 11 (-105).

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Diego Padres (52-54) open a 3-game set with the Colorado Rockies (41-64) Monday. First pitch from Coors Field is set for 8:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Padres lead 4-3

The Padres swept the Texas Rangers over the weekend to move within 5 games of the final NL Wild Card spot. San Diego has been playing pretty consistent baseball, going 6-4 over its last 10 games and 15-15 across its last 30.

The Rockies have dropped 4 of their last 5 games and currently sport the worst record in the National League. Colorado is 18 1/2 games back in the NL West and 15 1/2 games back of an NL Wild Card spot.

Padres at Rockies projected starters

RHP Seth Lugo vs. LHP Austin Gomber

Lugo (4-5, 3.62 ERA) makes his 16th start. He has a 1.20 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9 and 8.7 K/9 through 82 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 7 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 10 K in 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday
  • 2023 road stats: 2-2, 3.38 ERA (45 1/3 IP, 17 ER) and 8.3 K/9 in 8 starts
  • Career vs. Rockies: 3-0, 2.64 ERA (30 2/3 IP, 9 ER) in 3 starts and 7 relief appearances
  • Career at Coors Field: Allowed 6 R (3 ER) in 7 IP with an 11/2 K/BB in 1 start and 2 relief appearances
  • Has served up 5 long balls in his 3 most recent appearances after allowing a total of just 6 HR through his first 12 starts

Gomber (8-8, 5.83 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 1.44 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 6.0 K/9 through 108 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 6 H, 0 BB, 4 K in 6-5 loss at Washington Nationals Tuesday
  • 2023 home stats: 5-4, 7.19 ERA (61 1/3 IP, 49 ER) with 14 HR allowed (2.1 HR/9) over 12 starts
  • Career vs. Padres: 2-3, 3.70 ERA (41 1/3 IP, 17 ER) in 7 starts and 4 relief appearances.
  • Has made 2 starts against the Padres this year, allowing 3 ER in 6 IP at San Diego on April 2 and 7 ER in 4 IP in a home start on June 9
  • Got off to a brutal start this season with a 12.12 ERA over his first 4 turns but has a more respectable 4.71 ERA in 17 starts since, with 3 ER or fewer allowed in 12 of those outings

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 6, Rockies 4

Moneyline

Gomber has pitched better lately, with a 3.00 ERA and just 2 BB across 36 IP over his last 6 starts, but he has been awful at home this season. Lugo has been rock-solid, and the Padres have been rolling and have climbed back into the race for a playoff spot. However, San Diego is 23-29 away from home on the season so this price is just a little too steep.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Colorado dropped 2 of 3 to the lowly Oakland Athletics over the weekend, then proceeded to trade away two of their best hitters. This is a game the Padres should win and the run line for the road team at Coors Field is always in play. Back the PADRES -1.5 (-135).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Both starters in this game have been pitching well and are likely to avoid getting blown up despite the challenging environment. It probably won’t be a pitchers’ duel, but this game should slide in just UNDER 11.5 (-105).

The Colorado Rockies (26-40) welcome the San Diego Padres (31-33) to Coors Field for the finale of their 3-game series Sunday. First pitch is set for 3:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Padres lead 4-2

The Rockies have been struggling immensely of late, losing 6 in a row including the 1st 2 games of this series, 9-6 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday. They have lost 10 of their last 12 and are just 15-19 at home.

The Padres have won 3 in a row and 6 of their last 9 games. San Diego is 16-15 on the road this season. They’re 4th in the NL West, 8 games behind the 1st-place Arizona Diamondbacks.

Padres at Rockies projected starters

LHP Blake Snell vs. RHP Dinelson Lamet

Snell (2-6, 4.06 ERA) makes his 13th start. He has a 1.44 WHIP, 5.41 BB/9 and 10.0 K/9 in 62 innings.

  • Had an MLB-leading 21 wins in 2018, but hasn’t hit double-figure wins in a season since
  • Padres are just 3-9 in his 12 starts, including a 7-2 home loss to the Rockies in the season opener March 30
  •  Has pitched 12 straight innings without an ER

Lamet (1-3, 12.42 ERA) makes his 15th appearance and 3rd start. He has a 2.46 WHIP, 7.6 BB/9 and 11.3 K/9 in 16 2/3 innings.

  • The ex-Padres pitcher did not start a game at all last season
  • The Rockies are 3-11 in games Lamet has appeared.
  • Lost his last start: 3 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K in 10-4 loss to San Francisco Giants on Tuesday

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 7, Rockies 4

Moneyline

PASS.

The Rockies have been awful as of late, but at (-185), there is no good value in backing their opponent here. The moneyline for the home side (+150) looks enticing, but with Lamet on the mound, it is also a pass.

Run line/Against the spread

BET PADRES -1.5 (-125).

The Rockies have lost 9 of the 14 games in which Lamet has appeared by 2 or more runs. The Padres are 8-7 on the run line as a road favorite as well, so this is a position they have performed well in.

The Rockies are just 16-23 on the run line following a loss as well. Considering the trends, take PADRES -1.5 (-125).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 12 (-110).

The Padres have gone Under in 6 of their last 8 games. They are also 21-42-1 O/U on the season. The Rockies are 28-37-1 O/U this season and have gone Under in 3 of their last 4 games.

Despite Lamet’s struggles, this total is too high, and with how these teams have trended, take the UNDER 12 (-110).

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (83-67) begin a 3-game road series against the Colorado Rockies (64-86) Friday. First pitch from Coors Field is at 8:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Rockies lead 9-7

The Padres had a 5-game win streak going before suffering a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday. San Diego is now only 1/2 game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for the second wild-card spot in the NL.

The Rockies just want to finish the season strong at this point, though, they just got swept in a 4-game home series against the San Francisco Giants. Colorado was outscored 25-11 in its recent series with San Francisco, so it isn’t coming into this game with much momentum.

  • Has allowed 3 or more ER in 5 of his last 7 starts
  • July 11 at Rockies: 6 1/3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 B and 5 K

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 8, Rockies 6

Money line

I’ll go ahead and PASS on the money line in this game at the current odds the Padres have. San Diego is 4-1 in the previous meetings with Colorado, so it could have the edge Friday, but I’m not wagering on the money line straight up.

Run line/Against the spread

PADRES -1.5 (-108) is the ideal option in this game with San Diego still having something to play for. Both pitchers in this game have struggled this season, but I have more confidence in the bats of the Padres than the Rockies.

You can also take PADRES -0.5 FIRST 5 INNINGS (-122) as an alternative if you don’t believe San Diego wins by multiple runs or if you think they’ll take an early lead.

Over/Under

Life is too short to take the Under in a game at Coors Field, especially when there are 2 struggling pitchers taking the mound. OVER 10.5 RUNS (-130) is an enticing bet at plus odds given the fact that both teams should be able to produce a decent number of runs.

The Over has hit in 5 of the last 7 meetings between the Padres and the Rockies.

Season series: Rockies lead series 7-3

The Padres are fighting to gain the 4-game split after winning the first game Monday and losing the past 2 outings. The Under has cashed in 2 of the 3 games so far in this series.

The Rockies are looking for their first 3-game win streak since June 17-19, which just so happened to be a 3-game sweep of the Padres at Coors Field.

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 6, Rockies 5

Money line

The PADRES (-135) are a decent play, although you’ll have to hold your breath as this one figures to be your typical Coors Field softball-like back-and-forth affair.

San Diego is a little bit of a risky play based on the fact Colorado has had its way with the Padres so far this season, winning 7 of 10.

Run line/Against the spread

The ROCKIES +1.5 (-130) are worth a roll of the dice, as this should be a close game. Colorado has had its way with San Diego, but neither Snell nor Freeland are pitching well enough that this game will be one-sided.

Over/Under

The UNDER 11.5 (-105) is a big number, and playing the Under is always risky business at Coors.

I feel as if we’ll see a decent amount of runs, but the Under will just come in. The wind will be blowing sideways across the outfield, knocking down any potential homer balls to limit some damage.

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 6, Rockies 3

Money line

The Padres are 12-3 this season with Musgrove on the mound and beat the Rockies 9-0 in his only start against them. Only 2 teams in baseball have more road wins than the Padres’ 27 this season.

The Rockies are 4-2 in their last 6 games and are 8-3 in their last 11 home games.

While the Rockies have matched up well against the Padres this season, they won’t be able to overmatch Musgrove Wednesday.

Take the PADRES (-165).

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres are a very good 29-17 ATS on the road this season. They have won 6 of Musgrove’s 8 road starts by 2 or more runs.

The Rockies are 25-21 ATS at home this season and 8-1 ATS vs. the Padres. Their 1 game failing to cover the spread against the Padres was the 9-0 loss against Musgrove.

Take the PADRES -1.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Only 2 of Musgrove’s starts this season have had totals of 11 or more runs this season.

Six of the 9 games between the 2 teams have had totals of 10 or fewer runs.

Eleven of the Padres’ last 13 games have had 10 or fewer runs.

Take UNDER 10.5 (-105).

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (50-38) take on the Colorado Rockies (38-49) Tuesday night for the 2nd of a 4-game series in Denver. First pitch is 8:40 p.m. at Coors Field. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

The Rockies lead the season series 5-3.

The Padres took Monday’s opener 6-5, scoring 3 runs in the 8th inning to break a 3-3 tie. It was their 5th win in their last 15 games.

The Rockies had won 3 of their previous 4 games before Monday’s loss.

Padres at Rockies projected starters

RHP Mike Clevinger vs. LHP Austin Gomber

Clevinger (2-1, 3.34 ERA) makes his 8th start in 9 appearances. He has a 1.17 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 9.3 K/9 in 35 IP.

  • Took his first loss of the year July 5, allowing 4 R, 6 H, 2 BB and 5 K in 6 IP of a 6-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners.
  • Had allowed only 2 total runs in his 4 starts prior to his last outing.

Gomber (4-7, 6.46 ERA) makes his 15th start in 17 appearances. He has a 1.45 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 in 78 IP.

  • The Rockies have won his last 2 starts, both against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He allowed 7 ER in those 10 2/3 innings.
  • In 6 career appearances (4 starts) against the Padres, he’s 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 22 IP.

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockies 6, Padres 4

Money line

Gomber has been very good in his career against the Padres and while he has not been super efficient in his recent starts, the Rockies have scored 5 or more runs in 8 of their last 12 home games.

Clevinger has a 10.50 ERA at Coors Field in 6 career innings.

Colorado remains better than .500 at home this season.

Take the ROCKIES (+115).

Run line/Against the spread

While the Rockies did not pick up the win Monday night, they did cover the spread. They are 7-7 ATS in their last 14 games and 24-21 ATS at home.

The Padres are 29-16 ATS on the road this season.

But since I like the Rockies to win outright, I would take the money line. If you aren’t as confident in an outright win, the run line is still worth some action. Take the ROCKIES +1.5 (-130).

Over/Under

Only 1 of the Padres’ last 12 games has had a total of 12 or more runs. Only 1 of Clevinger’s starts has had a total of 12 or more runs.

Ten of Gomber’s 16 starts have had totals of 11 or fewer runs.

The Padres have scored 4 or fewer runs in 10 of their last 12 games and 3 or fewer 8 times in that time.

Take UNDER 11.5 (-120).

Analyzing Monday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (49-38) open a 4-game road series Monday night against the Colorado Rockies (38-48). First pitch is 8:40 p.m. ET at Coors Field. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

The Rockies lead the season series 5-2.

The Padres dropped the final 2 games of a 4-game series against the San Francisco Giants and went 2-4 on their recent homestand. They are 4-10 in their last 14 games.

The Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 Sunday to take 3 of 4 games of the series. They finished their road trip 3-4.

Padres at Rockies projected starters

LHP Sean Manaea vs. RHP Jose Urena

Manaea (3-4, 4.18 ERA) makes his 16th start. He has a 1.23 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 9.4 K/9 in 88 1/3 IP.

  • First start this season against the Rockies. He’s 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA in 2 career starts against Colorado, both at Coors Field.
  • Has a 6.52 ERA in his last 4 starts, covering 19 1/3 innings.

Urena (0-0, 2.51 ERA) makes his 2nd start in 6 appearances this season. He has a 1.40 WHIP, 8 BB and 5 K in 14 1/3 IP.

  • Joined Colorado after being designated for assignment by Milwaukee and was brought up to replace the injured Antonio Senzatela in the starting rotation last week.
  • Had no-decision in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers with 6 2/3 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB and 2 K.

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockies 5, Padres 4

Money line

The Padres were swept in Colorado in 3 games June 17-19. The Rockies are 23-21 at home and have won 7 of their last 9 at Coors Field.

Meanwhile, the Padres are struggling offensively, having scored 2 or fewer runs in 8 of their last 10 games.

Take the ROCKIES (+130).

Win your fantasy baseball league with BaseballHQ.com. For decades, BHQ has been helping players just like you win! Use the couple code SBW22 for 20% OFF full-season subscription. New customer offer; expires 8/31/2022. Subscribe today and start winning!

Run line/Against the spread

The Rockies are also 23-21 ATS at home this season.

While the Padres are 29-15 ATS on the road, that drops to 12-10 ATS as away favorites.

Manaea has struggled as of late and does not have a good track record at Coors Field.

I like the Rockies to win outright, making the money line the better bet, but if you want a little leeway, the run line is still worth some action. Take the ROCKIES +1.5 (-117).

Over/Under

Only 3 of the Rockies’ last 18 games have had 12 or more runs.

The Padres’ game Sunday had 12 runs, but they had a 10-game streak without a single game hitting 12 runs. They have also struggled to score runs, as noted previously.

Take UNDER 11.5 (-102).
