Seattle Mariners at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Seattle Mariners at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Seattle Mariners (21-24) play the San Diego Padres (28-17) Saturday in Game 2 of their three-game set in Petco Park at 8:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Mariners vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Diego won its eighth consecutive Friday by drubbing Seattle in the first game of this series 16-1.

The Padres’ two through five hitters (RF Jurickson Profar, 2B Jake Cronenworth, SS Fernando Tatis Jr. and 1B Eric Hosmer) hit a combined 10-for-19 with two home runs and 12 RBIs.

Season series: Padres 1-0.

LHP Justus Sheffield gets his eighth start for the Mariners. Sheffield is 3-3 with a 4.62 ERA (39 IP, 20 ER), 1.46 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 this year.

  • Last outing: Win, 7-3, in 6 IP with 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB and 2 K last Saturday vs. the Cleveland Indians.
  • Career vs. the Padres: 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA (6 IP, 1 ER), 2 BB and 5 K in one start (last season).

LHP Ryan Weathers is on the mound for the Padres. Weathers is 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA (26 1/3 IP, 4 ER), 0.76 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 across four starts and five bullpen appearances.

  • Last outing: No-decision in 4 IP with 2 ER, 4 H, 0 BB and 0 K in San Diego’s 5-3 win vs. the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday.
  • Career vs. the Mariners: No appearances.

  • Money line: Mariners +165 (bet $100 to win $165) | Padres -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Mariners +1.5 (-125) | Padres -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 7.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Padres 8, Mariners 1

Money line (ML)

PASS because San Diego’s lineup has struggled vs. left-handed pitching thus far, but mainly the Padres (-200) is too expensive for an outright win.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

BET the PADRES -1.5 (+105) for 1 unit because Friday’s 16-run outburst vs. the Mariners +1.5 (-125) could be a sign of things to come for San Diego’s lineup and the Padres own a sizable pitching advantage.

For instance, San Diego’s starter is a former No. 7 overall pick of the 2018 MLB draft and Weathers is expected to be on a pitch limit but could hand the ball off to RHP Dinelson Lamet who has got “top of the rotation” stuff.

Also, the Padres, on paper, have one of the best lineups in baseball, staggers hitters with different batting stances and can light up Sheffield who grades in the 30th percentile or lower in several advanced pitching metrics.

On top of that, San Diego’s bullpen is top-5 in the league across several advanced pitching categories, and Seattle’s lineup has the second-worst WAR in the majors.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS even though San Diego’s lineup is set up for success because it still has to prove it can hit left-handed pitching, and the presumed “sharp” money in the market is on the Under whereas the public is on the Over. I don’t have a feel either way.

Seattle Mariners at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Seattle Mariners at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Seattle Mariners (21-23) visit the San Diego Padres (27-17) Friday at Petco Park for the first of their three-game set at 10:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Mariners vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Diego have won six straight—sweeping both the Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals—and is 9-1 in the last 10 games and 14-6 in the past 20.

Seattle were just swept in a three-game set with the Detroit Tigers Monday-Wednesday and is just 3-7 in the last 10 games.

RHP Chris Flexen is making his eighth start for the Mariners. Flexen is 4-1 with a 3.46 ERA (39 IP, 15 ER), 1.36 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9 and 5.3 K/9 this season.

  • Last outing: Win, 7-3, in 5 2/3 IP with 1 ER, 5 H, 1 BB and 0 K last Friday vs. the Cleveland Indians.
  • Career vs. the Padres: 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA (3 IP, 3 ER), 4 BB and 2 K in his only career start against San Diego (2017).

RHP Chris Paddack is the projected starter for the Padres. Paddack is 1-3 with a 4.45 ERA (30 1/3 IP, 15 ER), 1.35 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 across seven starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision in 4 IP with 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB and 2 K in San Diego’s 13-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday.
  • Career vs. the Mariners: 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA (18 IP, 6 ER), 0.78 WHIP and 9.5 K/9 over three starts.
    • Vs. Mariners on the current roster: 32 at-bats with a .188/.270/.313 slash line, 8/4 K/BB, 1 HR and 4 RBIs.

Mariners at Padres odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 6:30 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Mariners +180 (bet $100 to win $180) | Padres -225 (bet $225 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Mariners +1.5 (-115) | Padres -1.5 (-105)
  • Over/Under: 7.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Mariners 5, Padres 4

Money line (ML)

Slight “LEAN” to the MARINERS (+170) FIRST 5 INNINGS for a quarter unit because Seattle is 6-1 in Flexen’s seven starts, and I’m low on Paddack because of his limited pitching arsenal.

I’m a sucker for Seattle’s First 5 Innings value since I like Flexen more than Paddack but am laying off the full-game upset because the Mariners’ bullpen is mediocre and the Padres’ relief unit is elite.

Also, Paddack predominantly uses two pitches (fastball and changeup), and  I’m thinking Seattle’s struggling lineup could bust its slump vs. the predictable Paddack.

It’s not like Paddack’s fastball is extraordinary either since he grades in the 25th percentile for fastball spin and 23rd percentile in chase rate.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to the MARINERS +1.5 (-115) for a three-fourths unit because it’s a wiser play than Seattle outright.

Furthermore, it’s a tight window we are trying to fit this Seattle upset into considering San Diego is one of the hottest teams in the Majors.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS with a “lean” to the Over 7.5 (-115) because of the reduced juice, it’s a fade of the market, and these teams have a combined 9-5 O/U record when these starters are on the bump.

However, I’m somewhat banking on the Mariners getting to Paddack, and the Padres’ lineup is fully healthy and one of the best in the Majors. So I’m just going to stay away from the total.

Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (15-28) and San Diego Padres (26-17) play the finale of a three-game set Wednesday at Petco Park with a 4:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 2-1 with a 4.79 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 4.3 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 over 35 2/3 IP through 6 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Gonzalez is coming off his best outing of the season, allowing just four hits and a walk with two strikeouts in seven scoreless innings for a win over the Cincinnati Reds last Thursday. He hadn’t won since his first start against the Los Angeles Dodgers April 1.

RHP Joe Musgrove is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 3-4 with a 2.86 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 12.1 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 over 44 IP across 8 starts.

Musgrove will be making his first appearance of the season against the Rockies. He won last time out against the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, allowing just one run and five hits with four walks over five innings for his first win since April 9, a no-hitter in Texas.

MLB betting offers/promotions

BetMGM Sportsbook offers available in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA and WV. New customer offers, terms and conditions apply.

Rockies at Padres odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:00 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rockies +220 (bet $100 to win $220) | Padres -275 (bet $275 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rockies +1.5 (+105) | Padres -1.5 (-125)
  • Over/Under: 7.5 (Over -110 | Under -110)

Prediction

Padres 5, Rockies 2

Money line (ML)

The Padres (-275) will cost you nearly three times your potential return, and that’s just not an attractive play. Gonzalez was sharp last time out, and that’s a concern for the home side.

AVOID.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PADRES -1.5 (-125) is a better play on the run line. They should be able to push past the struggling Rockies +1.5 (+105) by at least two runs. During their five-game win streak they have outscored the opposition 32-11, although two of the wins are just by one run.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 7.5 (-110) was the play Tuesday night, slapping the brakes on a four-game Over run. We should get some decent pitching in this one as both hurlers did a good job last time out. The Under is 3-2 in the first five meetings this season, too.

Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (15-27) and San Diego Padres (25-17) play the second game of a three-game set Tuesday at Petco Park with a 10:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Austin Gomber is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 2-4 with a 5.49 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9 over 39 1/3 IP through 8 starts.

Gomber rebounded from a beating at the St. Louis Cardinals May 7, allowing one unearned run, four hits and a walk with six strikeouts across 5 1/3 innings at Coors Field against the Padres Wednesday in a no-decision.

LHP Blake Snell is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 1-0 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 12.8 K/9 and 6.3 BB/9 over 34 1/3 IP across 8 starts.

Snell was on the bump opposite Gomber in Denver Wednesday, and he lasted just four innings with two earned runs, five hits and three walks allowed in a no-decision. He hasn’t had a quality start in his eight appearances this season.

Rockies at Padres odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:36 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rockies +170 (bet $100 to win $170) | Padres -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rockies +1.5 (-125) | Padres -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 7 (Over -105 | Under -115)

Prediction

Padres 6, Rockies 4

Money line (ML)

The Padres (-200) will force you to risk two times your potential return, and that’s a little on the expensive side, especially since Snell has really struggled so far.

AVOID.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PADRES -1.5 (+105) is worth a roll of the dice, and they’re much less risky at this price point. Snell hasn’t lasted longer than 5 2/3 innings in any of his eight starts to date. But Gomber has struggled at times, too, and San Diego’s offense should be just fine against the left-hander in this one. Plus, the Padres are 4-1 across their past five at home vs. lefties.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 7 (-105) is my favorite play on the board, and you should hammer it hard. The Over is 12-3 in Colorado’s past 15 within the division, and its staff was blasted for seven runs in Monday’s opener. The Over is also 6-1 in Colorado’s past seven vs. left-handers.

The Padres took care of the Over (6.5) all on their own Monday, though barely, and the Over is now 4-for-4 across their past four outings. The Over is also 4-0 in their previous four as home favorites.

Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (15-26) and San Diego Padres (24-17) kick off a three-game set Monday at Petco Park with a 10:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Jon Gray is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 4-3 with a 2.93 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 8.6 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 over 46 IP through 8 starts.

Gray allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Padres at Coors Field last time out Wednesday.

RHP Yu Darvish is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 11.1 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 over 47 2/3 IP across 8 starts.

Darvish opposed Gray on Wednesday in Denver, allowing one unearned run, two hits and a walk over four innings in a no-decision. He is winless in two starts in May.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Rockies +1.5 (-135) | Padres -1.5 (+110)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (Over -110 | Under -110)

Prediction

Padres 4, Rockies 2

Money line (ML)

The Padres (-200) will cost you a pretty penny if you plan to back the home side. San Diego, which is coming off a sweep of the Cardinals, is a better play on the run line.

AVOID.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PADRES -1.5 (+110) are worth playing lightly on the run line, as this should be a well-pitched game. Darvish was hard on the Rockies last time out in Denver, and he should be even more effective at sea level.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is the UNDER 6.5 (-110), as we have two starting pitchers capable of racking up plenty of donuts.

Gray and Darvish matched up Wednesday in Denver, and the Padres came away with a 5-3 win as the Over barely cashed. At sea level, look for less offense.

St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (23-17) go for a three-game sweep of the visiting St. Louis Cardinals (23-17) on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. First pitch at Petco Park is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Padres lead 2-0

Despite missing three key position players, San Diego took the first two games of this series – 5-4 Friday and 13-3 Saturday. SS Fernando Tatis Jr., RF Wil Myers 1B Eric Hosmer and utilitymen Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo have been unavailable due to COVID-19 issues.

St. Louis hopes LHP Kwang Hyun Kim will salvage the series and snap the club’s 2-game slide. He is 1-0 with a 2.74 ERA (23 IP, 7 ER), 1.26 WHIP, 9.4 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 in 5 starts this season.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 5 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K at Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday – Cardinals won 6-1 in 11 innings
  • Career vs. Padres: 0-0, 7.36 ERA (3 2/3 IP, 3 ER), 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K in 1 postseason start (Game 1 of 2020 NL Wild Card Series) – Cards won 7-4

LHP Ryan Weathers, who made his MLB debut in last year’s playoffs, is projected to start for the Friars. The 21-year-old rookie is 2-1 with an 0.81 ERA (22 1/3 IP, 2 ER), 0.72 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 3 starts and 5 relief appearances.

  • Last outing: Win, 3 IP in relief, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K at San Francisco Giants May 9 – Padres won 11-1
  • Career as starter: 0-0, 0.00 ERA (10 1/3 IP, 0 ER), 2 H, 4 BB, 9 K in 3 outings
  • Career vs. Cardinals: No appearances

  • Over/Under: 7 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Padres 3

Money line (ML)

ST. LOUIS (+105) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. The Cardinals are 5-0 in Kim’s starts this season. The South Korean southpaw allowed just 1 run in each of his last four starts.

It should be tough night for a depleted Padres lineup, which is missing Tatis, Myers and Hosmer.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. While the Cardinals feature a majors-best ATS record, the -200 price on St. Louis +1.5 is too much chalk.

ATS records: Cardinals 25-15 | Padres 21-19

Over/Under (O/U)

AVOID as the projected score equals 7 runs.

The lean would be to the Over 7 (-110) the way this series has gone. Plus, the O/U is 3-0-1 in Kim’s starts this season  and 2-1 in Weather’s starts.

St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (23-16) and San Diego Padres (22-17) play Game 2 of a three-game series Saturday at Petco Park. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET (on FS1). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Padres lead 1-0

Despite being without SS Fernando Tatis Jr., RF Wil Myers, 1B Eric Hosmer and utility players Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo due to COVID-19 issues, the Padres won Friday’s series opener 5-4.

RHP Adam Wainwright is projected to start for St. Louis. The 16-year veteran is 2-3 with a 3.80 ERA (42 2/3 IP, 18 ER), 1.22 WHIP, 8.9 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 7 starts this season.

  • Last outing: Win, 8 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 K in the Cardinals’ 2-0 home shutout of the Colorado Rockies Sunday.
  • Career vs. Padres (regular season): 7-4, 2.19 ERA (82 1/3 IP, 20 ER), 1.13 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 in 12 starts and 3 relief appearances.

RHP Chris Paddack is the Padres’ projected starter. He is 1-3 with a 4.78 ERA (26 1/3 IP, 14 ER), 1.41 WHIP, 8.9 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 through 6 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 3 IP (due to a pitch-count limit after coming off the injured list), 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K at the San Francisco Giants Sunday – Padres won 11-1.
  • Career vs. Cardinals (regular season): 1-0, 0.93 ERA (9 2/3 IP, 1 ER), 3 H, 5 BB, 12 K in 2 starts in 2019.

  • Over/Under: 7 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Padres 2

Money line (ML)

ST. LOUIS (+110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. Wainwright was spectacular in his last start, just missing a complete-game shutout by two outs.

Don’t let his 2021 road stats (0-1, 6.52 ERA, 9 2/3 IP, 7 ER) scare you away. They’re inflated due to a rough outing at the Cincinnati Reds (2 2/3 IP, 6 ER) in his season debut. He held the Washington Nationals to 1 earned run and struck out a season-high 10 batters over 7 innings in his other road start.

Sure, the Padres won Friday, but the odds are against them with Tatis, Myers and Hosmer out.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. The Cardinals are tied with the San Francisco Giants for the majors’ best ATS record, but the -190 juice on St. Louis +1.5 is too high for my liking.

ATS records: Cardinals 25-14 | Padres 20-19

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 7 (-105) is worth a HALF-UNIT wager. The Under is 5-1 in Wainwright’s last six starts, and both clubs feature decent bullpens. San Diego relievers are first in the NL with a 2.73 ERA, while the Cardinals are sixth at 3.71.

O/U records: Cardinals 17-18-3 | Padres 17-22

St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

In a rematch of a 2020 NL Wild Card series, the St. Louis Cardinals (23-15) and San Diego Padres (21-17) open a three-game set Friday at Petco Park. First pitch is slated for 10:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

During a mid-week series in which the Padres took 2 of 3 at the Colorado Rockies, San Diego lost 5 position players due to COVID-19 issues. Star SS Fernando Tatis Jr. and RF Wil Myers tested positive and were placed on the injured list, while 1B Eric Hosmer and utility players Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo also landed on the IL due to contact-tracing protocols.

None of the five are expected to play in this first regular-season meeting between the two NL contenders. The Padres won last year’s best-of-3 Wild Card Series by winning the final two games after dropping the opener.

The Padres had the day off Thursday, while the Cardinals shut out the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 to take 2 of 3 to start their current 6-game road trip.

RHP Johan Oviedo is Friday’s projected starter for St. Louis. The Cuban native is 0-1 with a 4.61 ERA (13 2/3 IP, 7 ER), 1.02 WHIP, 8.6 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 in 2 starts and 1 relief appearance. Oviedo pitched Sunday for Class AAA Memphis and yielded 4 ER over 2 2/3 IP. This will be the first time he faces the Padres in his young career.

  • Last MLB outing: Loss, 4 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 2 K in the Cardinals’ 7-2 home loss to the New York Mets May 5.
  • 2021 as starter: 0-1, 7.00 ERA (9 IP, 7 ER), 8 H, 2 BB, 9 K in 2 outings.

RHP Joe Musgrove is expected to start for the Friars. He is 2-4 with a 3.00 ERA (39 IP, 13 ER), 0.85 WHIP, 12.5 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9 in 7 starts.

  • Last outing: Loss, 5 IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 7 K in the Padres’ 7-1 defeat at the San Francisco Giants Saturday.
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 1-7, 5.92 ERA (48 2/3 IP, 32 ER), 1.38 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 9 starts.

  • Money line: Cardinals +150 (bet $100 to win $150) | Padres -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cardinals +1.5 (-145) | Padres -1.5 (+120)
  • Over/Under: 7 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Cardinals 5, Padres 4

Money line (ML)

ST. LOUIS (+150), which has won 5 of its last 6 games, is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. Granted, the Cardinals will be throwing an inexperienced starting pitcher, but the value is there since the Padres are without Tatis, Myers and Hosmer.

Plus, since Musgrove tossed the Padres’ first no-hitter in franchise history – in his second start of the season April 9 to improve to 2-0 – he is 0-4 with a 4.88 ERA (24 IP, 13 ER) in 5 starts.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. The Cardinals have the majors’ second-best ATS record, but I have no interest in laying the -145 juice on St. Louis +1.5.

The alternate line of -1.5 (+260) is tempting but AVOID with Oviedo getting the start.

ATS records: Cardinals 24-14 | Padres 20-18

Over/Under (O/U)

Back OVER 7 (-105) to win a QUARTER UNIT because neither starting pitcher is worthy of an Under play. PASS if the line climbs above 7.

O/U records: Cardinals 16-18-3 | Padres 16-22

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and prediction – Postponed

Analyzing Monday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

Monday night’s San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies game has been postponed due to inclement weather. It will be rescheduled as a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday, May 12, beginning at 12:10 pm PT/1:10 pm MT.

The San Diego Padres (19-16) start a three-game series Monday with NL West rival Colorado Rockies (12-22) at Coors Field. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies with MLB picks and predictions.

This will be the first regular-season meeting between these two clubs, but the Padres won last season’s series against the Rockies, 7-3, and outscored them by a combined 27 runs in those 10 games.

RHP Dinelson Lamet is the projected starter for the Padres. Lamet is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (4 IP, 0 ER), 1.50 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 across 2 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision in 2 IP with 0 ER, 4 H, 0 BB and 0 K in San Diego’s 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • Career vs. the Giants: 1-1 with a 2.66 ERA (20 1/3 IP, 6 ER), 1.18 WHIP and 12.0 K/9 over 4 starts, all at Oracle Park.
  • Vs. Giants on the current roster: 54 at-bats with a .204/.259/.333 slash line, 1 HR and 5 RBIs.

RHP Antonio Senzatela gets the start for the Rockies. Senzatela is 1-3 with a 5.76 ERA (29 2/3 IP, 19 ER), 1.55 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 5.5 K/9 across 6 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision in 4 2/3 IP, 3 ER 9 H, 1 BB and 3 K in Colorado’s 5-3 loss at the Arizona Diamondbacks April 29.
  • Career vs. the Padres: 7-2 with a 3.08 ERA (64 1/3 IP, 22 ER), 1.20 WHIP and 2.5 K/9 over 9 starts and 6 relief appearances.
  • Vs. Padres on the current roster: 104 at-bats with a .317/.387/.519 slash line, 18/11 K/BB rate, 2 HR and 11 RBIs.

Padres at Rockies odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Padres -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Rockies +145 (bet $100 to win $145)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Padres -1.5 (-115) | Rockies +1.5 (-105)
  • Over/Under: 10 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Padres 9, Rockies 4

Money line (ML)

PASS even though Lamet is a starter I’m much higher on than Senzatela because the Padres (-175) is too expensive given Lamet has only gone two innings in each of his starts.

Don’t get me wrong, San Diego’s bullpen is legit, but -175 is a number I’m more willing to lay with an ace on the mound and Lamet is still working back from injury.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Senzatela isn’t striking out a lot of batters (Statcast grades Senzatela in the 7-percentile of K%) and gives up a ton of contact (fifth in whiff%) while San Diego’s lineup doesn’t strikeout very much (fourth-lowest K%).

The Padres’ bats are bottom-10 in several advanced hitting metrics such as wRC+, wOBA and OPS,  but there are signs of progression forthcoming.

For instance, San Diego’s lineup is 24th in BAbip, which is a luck-based factor that somewhat explains the other poor numbers, but the Padres are sixth in hard-hit rate so they are making good contact.

Perhaps San Diego’s lineup doesn’t transform overnight but, at this price, I’m BETTING the PADRES -1.5 (-115) for 1 unit rake against the Rockies.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS because San Diego’s lineup still needs to prove it if I’m going to be betting an Over on a double-digit total and Colorado’s lineup is one of the worst in the Majors.

The Padres’ 11 runs scored in yesterday’s win over the San Francisco Giants was only two runs fewer than the previous six games combined and the Rockies have been shutout in two of their past three games.

Lastly, these teams have a combined 2-6 O/U record this season when these starters are on the mound. Senzatela, in particular, generally garners a lot of Over money when he makes a start but those Over bets aren’t cashing thus far.

San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (18-15) and San Francisco Giants (19-13) play the second of a three-game set Saturday at Oracle Park with a 4:05 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Giants odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Joe Musgrove is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 2-3 with a 2.38 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, 12.4 K/9 and 1.9 BB/9 over 34 IP through 6 starts.

In his most recent start, Musgrove allowed six runs (five earned) and four hits with two walks and six strikeouts across five innings in a loss against the Giants at Petco Park on Sunday.

RHP Kevin Gausman is the projected starting pitcher for the Giants. He is 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 over 39 2/3 IP through 6 starts.

Gausman outdueled Musgrove in that outing on Sunday, allowing just one run, six hits and a walk with six strikeouts over six innings in a victory in San Diego. He also allowed just one run, five hits and a walk with five strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision at Petco April 7.

Padres at Giants odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 8:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Padres -145 (bet $145 to win $100) | Giants +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Padres -1.5 (+120) | Giants +1.5 (-145)
  • Over/Under: 7 (Over -115 | Under -105)

Prediction

Giants 3, Padres 2

Money line (ML)

The GIANTS (+120) are a solid value in their home park. Gausman has been very hard on the Padres (-145) to date, going 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA and .224 opponent batting average with 11 strikeouts over 13 innings and just one homer allowed. There is no reason to bet against he or the Giants, especially after he topped the Padres last time out at their place.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The GIANTS +1.5 (-145) aren’t terribly expensive if you’d like a little insurance and do not trust them straight up. And four of their past eight games have been one-run losses.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 7 (-105) is the play in San Francisco. While the Giants have been on an Over run lately, and the Under was 7-5-2 in the first 14 home dates for San Francisco.
