Nationals at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 6, Nationals 3

Money line

PASS on the money line. Corbin leads the majors in losses and the Nationals have lost his last 8 outings.

The Padres are struggling and Manaea has not had his best stuff over the last month, but betting the Nationals doesn’t make sense and at -300 it is way too expensive to bet the Padres.

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres are 21-39 ATS at home this season, but the Nationals are no world beaters at 29-30 ATS on the road.

A 2.5 run line is tricky, but the Nationals’ last 6 losses with Corbin on the mound have been by 2 or more runs.

Eight of the Padres’ last 10 wins have been by 2 or more runs.

Take the PADRES -2.5 (+105).

Over/Under

Five of Corbin’s last 6 starts have had totals of 9 or more runs.

Eleven of the Nationals’ last 17 games have had 9 or more runs.

Take OVER 8.5 (-115).

Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Washington Nationals (41-80) and the San Diego Padres (66-56) meet for the 3rd contest of a 4-game set at Petco Park Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Nationals vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Nationals lead 3-2

The Nationals traded two-time All-Star and budding superstar Juan Soto to the Padres at the non-waiver deadline, but Washington has gotten the last laugh in this series so far. Soto is 0-for-6 with 2 BB and 3 K in the 2 losses at Petco to open the series.

The Padres have struggled mightily, going 2-5 across the past 7 games. San Diego has had a little bit of a hangover since news came down last week that SS Fernando Tatis Jr. would be suspended for the rest of the regular season after testing positive for a banned substance.

Nationals at Padres projected starters

RHP Josiah Gray vs. RHP Joe Musgrove

Gray (7-8, 4.79 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.29 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9 and 10.4 K/9 in 118 1/3 IP.

  • Allowed 3 ER, 5 H and 2 BB with 10 K across 6 IP in a no-decision against the Chicago Cubs last time out Monday.
  • Has posted 4 or more K in 12 consecutive starts dating back to June 3.
  • Is 5-1 with an impressive 3.21 ERA and .205 opponent batting average with 68 K across 61 2/3 IP in 11 road starts.

Musgrove (8-6, 2.98 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 1.03 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 8.7 K/9 in 133 IP.

  • Is just 3-3 across 62 2/3 IP in 10 home starts, but he has a stellar 2.87 ERA and .215 opponent BA.
  • Has allowed 1 HR in 5 consecutive starts dating back to July 24, and he has served up 14 HR across 133 IP this season.

Nationals at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 3, Nationals 2

Money line

Let the past 2 days serve as a cautionary tale – never bet heavy, heavy favorites. The Padres (-320) will cost you more than 3 times your potential return, and bettors who made that foolish bet the past 2 games were bitten hard.

PASS.

Win your fantasy baseball league with BaseballHQ.com. For decades, BHQ has been helping players just like you win! Use the couple code SBW22 for 20% OFF full-season subscription. New customer offer; expires 8/31/2022. Subscribe today and start winning!

Run line/Against the spread

The NATIONALS +1.5 (+105) have arrived in Southern California with revenge on their minds, beating old friend Soto and the championship-hopeful Padres -1.5 (-130) in the first 2 games.

Washington has been scrappy in this series, and they’re a good bet to keep it close, if not win outright on the road again. Gray has been tremendous away from home, while Musgrove is a .500 pitcher at Petco this season.

Over/Under

The UNDER 7.5 (-115) is the play, as the Padres offense is not hitting on all cylinders, and Gray will make sure that continues.

The Under is 7-3 in the past 10 games for the Nats against NL West teams, while the Under is 5-2 in the past 7 games overall for the Padres and 5-2 in the past 7 tries vs. NL East foes, too.

The Washington Nationals (40-80) play the 2nd game of their 4-game road series against the San Diego Padres (66-55) Friday. First pitch is at 9:40 p.m. ET at Petco Park. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Nationals vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

The Nationals won Thursday’s series opener 3-1. They have won only 4 games in their last 16 and have the worst record in the National League.

Nationals at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 5, Nationals 2

Money line

PASS. This pitching matchup is overwhelmingly in favor of the Padres and the Nationals are just struggling. Snell has a 2.08 ERA in his last 8 starts.

Betting the Nationals seems like a bad bet and betting the Padres here just doesn’t make sense.

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres are not great against the spread, as they are 56-65 ATS overall this season, but the Nationals are 50-70 ATS and 27-30 ATS on the road.

The Padres have covered the spread in both wins against the Nationals. Both wins were by at least 5 runs. Their last 5 wins have been by at least 3 runs.

Fifteen of the Nationals’ last 19 losses have been by 3 or more runs.

Take the PADRES -2.5 (+102).

Over/Under

In 4 games against each other, 3 have had 7 or fewer runs.

Each of Snell’s last 2 starts has had 6 or fewer runs.

Five of the last 7 games for Washington have had 7 or fewer runs.

Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Washington Nationals (39-80) head to SoCal to face the San Diego Padres (66-54) Thursday in the opener of a 4-game set at Petco Park. First pitch is set for 9:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Nationals vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Padres lead 2-1

The Nationals’ trail of tears continues as they’ve lost 7 of 10 and 21 of 30. They’ve been outscored 61-33 in the last 10 games. 1B Joey Meneses is receiving an extended look and paying dividends as he’s 11-for-29 (.379) with a home run over the last 7 games. He enters with an 11-game hitting streak and has a hit in 12 of his 13 games since being called up Aug. 2.

The Friars have been so-so of late despite making a huge splash at the trade deadline. They’re 5-5 over the last 10 and 11-9 over the last 20. They’re a good home team, though, at 33-24. They beat Washington in 2 of 3 at their stadium last weekend.

Nationals at Padres projected starters

RHP Anibal Sanchez vs. RHP Yu Darvish

Sanchez (0-5, 7.20 ERA) will make his 7th start of the season. He has a 1.60 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 30 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 HR, 3 BB, 4 K in 4-3 home win vs. San Diego Saturday
  • Allowed at least 3 ER in each of his 6 starts

Darvish (10-6, 3.40 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.01 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 in 140 1/3 IP.

  • Last outing: Loss, 6 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 2 HR, 1 BB, 9 K in 4-3 setback at Washington Saturday
  • Much better pitcher at home with a 2.17 ERA, 0.81 WHIP vs. 4.50 ERA and 1.19 WHIP on the road

Nationals at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 6, Nationals 3

Money line

No, that’s not a typo. The Padres are -400 favorites to win this game, which means you’d have to risk $40 to win $10. So, let’s look elsewhere.

Sanchez has been awful in each start, recording more than 15 outs just once in 6 tries. He has allowed 3 ER or more in all of them, which makes PADRES OVER 3.5 RUNS FIRST 5 INNINGS (+110) worth a roll of the dice. If you can find Padres OVER 2.5 runs first 5 innings, hammer it!

Run line/Against the spread

Normally, I wouldn’t consider playing a 2.5 RL, but 8 of the Padres’ last 9 wins have been by 3 or more runs. Darvish is great at home, and I’ll risk a QUARTER UNIT on PADRES -2.5 (-117).

Over/Under

The wind is blowing in from left-center at 8 mph, which explains the opening 7.5 O/U line. The Over is 2-0-2 in the Nationals’ last 4 road games against a team with a winning record. The Over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between the teams and 4-0 in the last 4 in San Diego.

TAKE OVER 8.5 (+105). However, if you’re willing to lay a little juice, I can see backing the alternate line of OVER 7.5 (-135).

San Diego has won 4 of its last 5 games, which includes 2 straight series victories at home vs. the San Francisco Giants and at the Washington Nationals last weekend.

Miami is 2-8 in the past 10 games and was just swept in a 4-game home series with the Atlanta Braves. The Marlins have lost 5 straight series.

Musgrove is 8-5 with a 2.91 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9 and 8.8 K/9 in 127 IP across 20 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in San Diego’s 7-4 home win vs. the Giants Tuesday with 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 1 HR, 0 BB and 4 K
  • 2022 vs. the Marlins: 1 start, a no-decision in San Diego’s 3-2 home win May 8 with 7 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 HR, 1 BB and 8 K

Alcantara is 10-5 with a 2.01 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 7.9 K/9 in 166 IP over 23 starts.

Padres at Marlins picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 4, Marlins 2

Money line

RISK 1 unit on the PADRES (-145) instead of betting to win 1 unit because we are getting the worst of the number.

San Diego’s ML has been steamed from a -115 opener up to the current number per Pregame.com despite facing the odds-on favorite to win the 2022 NL Cy Young award (Alcantara).

But, Musgrove appeared in his 1st All-Star game this summer and just got a big, new extension. In fact, Musgrove’s xFIP is nearly the same as Alcantara’s (3.38-3.37). Furthermore, Musgrove has a better exit velocity, hard-hit rate, K%, BB%, chase rate and whiff rate than Alcantara, according to Statcast.

If your standard unit is $100 then “FLAT-BET” that on the PADRES (-145) to earn a $68.97 profit.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS with a heavy “lean” towards the Padres -1.5 (+125) because they are 4-1 RL as road favorites with Musgrove on the bump and the Marlins +1.5 (-155) are just 8-15 RL as home underdogs.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 6.5 (-115) because 3 of the first 4 Padres-Marlins meetings this season went Under Monday’s total and Miami is 8-14 O/U in Alcantara starts.

My hesitation with the UNDER 6.5 (-115) is due to this sharp total and San Diego’s 12-8 O/U record when Musgrove is on the mound.

San Diego Padres at Washington Nationals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s San Diego Padres at Washington Nationals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (63-51) head to the nation’s capital to face the Washington Nationals (37-76) Friday in the 1st game of a 3-game set at Nationals Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Nationals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; San Diego won 4 of 7 in 2021

The Padres are turning things around after losing 5 straight games after stud OF Juan Soto arrived and have won 2 in a row. The Friars are 11-9 and 15-15 in their last 20 and 30 games, respectively. Soto has been fine in his transition, hitting .357 with 4 extra-base hits in 28 at-bats. He returns to his old stomping grounds with motivation to put on a show.

The Nationals are the worst team in baseball and have lost 8 of 10. They have just 8 wins in their last 30 games. Newly acquired 1B Luke Voit is hitting .292 with 2 homers in 24 at-bats with the Nationals.

Clevinger (3-4, 3.60 ERA) makes his 13th start. He has a 1.12 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 in 65 IP.

  • He’s 1-4 with a 4.25 ERA in his last 6 starts
  • Hasn’t faced the Nats since 2019, when they were a very different team. He allowed 6 ER in 5 2/3 IP

Abbott (0-1, 5.68 ERA) makes his 3rd start and 6th appearance. He has a 1.50 WHIP, 5.7 BB/9 and 7.8 K/9 in 12 2/3 IP.

  • His numbers are skewed by a horrific start in his Aug. 7 outing against Philadelphia. He allowed 7 ER on 7 H and 5 BB with 2 K in 3 2/3 IP
  • He threw 5 shutout IP against the Mets in the previous start

The Padres are the heavy favorite, and there’s nothing in the matchup that says we should argue with it. But we’re not going -280 on them. They should get to Abbott, who was 0-5 with a 4.98 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in the minors. So let’s take the PADRES FIRST 5 INNINGS (-160) for a HALF UNIT.

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres dispatched of the Giants 13-7 and 7-4 before resting/traveling Thursday. Seven of the Nats’ 8 losses in the last 10 games have been by more than 1 run. So I like the PADRES ALTERNATE LINE -1.5 (-155). I also look for Soto to put on a clinic this weekend in his former ballpark. Take a shot on JUAN SOTO OVER 1.5 TOTAL BASES (+102).

Over/Under

Based on the pitching matchups here, I like the Over. Clevinger allowed 4 or more runs in half of his last 6 starts, and Abbott had an ERA near 5 in the minors. The Over is 6-3-1 for the Padres and 6-2-2 for the Nats in the last 10. Take the OVER 8.5 (-130).

San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Francisco Giants (54-55) continue their 3-game series with the San Diego Padres (61-51) Tuesday at Petco Park. First pitch in Game 2 is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Giants vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Francisco shut out San Diego 1-0 in Monday’s series opener as the Giants’ pitching staff was dominant. The Padres had just 1 runner in scoring position and only left 4 runners on base.

Season series: San Diego leads 6-5, but San Francisco has scored 10 more runs (46-36)

Cobb is 3-6 with a 4.08 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 9.5 K/9 in 88 1/3 IP across 17 starts.

  • Last start: Lost 3-0 Wednesday at home vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers with 6 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 3 BB and 8 K
  • 2022 vs. the Padres: 1 start, a 13-2 home win April 12 with 5 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB and 10 K

Musgrove is 8-5 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 in 120 IP over 19 starts.

  • Last start: Lost 7-3 at home Thuraday vs. the Colorado Rockies with 4 2/3 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 1 HR, 1 BB and 6 K

Giants at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 4, Padres 3

Money line

PASS.

Musgrove has shut down San Francisco’s lineup this season and the Giants are 32-37 vs. right-handed starters.

But the Padres (-180) are out of my price range because San Diego actually has a minus-7.3% return on investment (ROI) as home favorites in 2022.

Run line/Against the spread

BET HALF-UNIT on the GIANTS +1.5 (-155) because the Padres -1.5 (+125) have the 4th-worst RL ROI as home favorites in MLB at minus-31.6%. In fact, a $100 bettor would be down $1,587 if they bet San Diego’s RL as home favorites this year.

Also, there’s a “Pros vs. Joe’s” scenario in the betting market. A slight majority of the cash is on the Giants but more than 80% of the bets are on the Padres, per Pregame.com. It’s wise to follow the money when it’s counter to the public since sharps wager a lot more dough than public bettors.

Over/Under

BET HALF-UNIT on the UNDER 7.5 (-125) since Musgrove deals vs. San Francisco, the Giants are 10-13-1 O/U as road underdogs and Petco Park is the most pitcher-friendly venue in baseball according to park factor.

It’s only a LEAN to the UNDER 7.5 (-125) since I’m going to take a shot on San Francisco’s RL and this is a sharp total without much value on either side.

San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Francisco Giants (53-55) head down the coast to start a 3-game series with the San Diego Padres (61-50). First pitch from Petco Park is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Giants vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Francisco is 5-5 straight up (SU) in its last 10 games and swept a 2-game interleague series with the Bay Area neighbor Oakland Athletics Saturday-Sunday after losing 4 straight at home to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

San Diego is also 5-5 SU over its last 10 but has lost 4 consecutive outings, which includes being swept in a 3-game series at the Dodgers this past weekend.

Season series: The Padres lead 6-4 but the Giants have a plus-9 run differential in those meetings (45-36).

Giants at Padres projected starters

LHP Alex Wood vs. LHP Blake Snell

Wood is 7-9 with a 4.42 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 8.9 K/9 in 106 IP over 21 starts.

  • Last start: Loss, 9-5, at home vs. the Dodgers Tuesday with 5 1/3 IP, 6 ER, 9 H, 1 HR, 1 BB and 6 K.
  • 2022 vs. the Padres: 1-1 with a 4.40 ERA (14 1/3 IP, 7 ER), 16 H, 1 HR, 4 BB and 18 K in 3 starts.

Snell is 4-5 with a 4.16 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 4.6 BB/9 and 11.7 K/9 in 67 IP across 13 starts.

  • Last start: Win, 9-1, at home vs. the Colorado Rockies Wednesday with 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 0 BB and 9 K.
  • 2022 vs. the Giants: 1 start — a 6-3 home win July 8 — with 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 HR, 2 BB and 11 K.

Giants at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 5, Giants 1

Money line

LEAN towards “flat-betting” or parlaying the PADRES (-190) with another similarly priced favorite for a better payout.

San Diego’s ML price is a little expensive and we are getting the worst of the number. The Padres opened as -161 ML favorites per Pregame.com but have been steamed up by sharp action to the current number.

However, Snell’s stuff is much nastier than Wood’s and Snell has been finding his groove lately. He has won 3 straight starts, allowing just 2 earned runs over 17 innings during that span with a 21/3 K/BB rate. Also, Snell dominated the Giants when they last met in July.

San Diego’s RL is my favorite look in this game but the PADRES (-190) is the right side.

Run line/Against the spread

BET PADRES -1.5 (+110) because Snell has been shutting down opposing lineups and the Giants are 3-5 RL as road underdogs vs. left-handed starters and 13-28 RL vs. NL West foes.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 7.5 (-115).

There’s a “Pros vs. Joe’s” scenario in the betting market because more money is on the Under whereas more bets have been placed on the Over, according to Pregame.com.

It’s wiser to follow the money in these situations since professional bettors wager a lot more dough than your average Joe. Also, the UNDER 7.5 (-115) being pricier insinuates it’s the sharper side.

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (61-49) hope to salvage a win in the finale of their 3-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers (74-33) Sunday. First pitch from Dodger Stadium is at 7:08 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Dodgers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Dodgers lead 7-2

The Padres have lost 3 games in a row but had won 5 games prior. They trail the Dodgers 14.5 games in the NL West but hold a half-game lead for the final Wild Card.

The Dodgers have won 7 seven straight games and 10 of their last 11. They are 29-5 in their last 34 games.

Padres at Dodgers projected starters

RHP Yu Darvish vs. LHP Tyler Anderson

Darvish (10-4, 3.30 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 0.99 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9 and 8.9 K/9 through 128 1/3 IP.

  • Is 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 12 innings over 2 starts against the Dodgers in 2022.
  • Has allowed 3 or fewer runs in 16 of his 20 starts.

Anderson (12-1, 2.89 ERA) makes his 19th start and 21st appearance. He has a 1.03 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9 and 7.3 K/9 through 115 1/3 IP.

  • The Dodgers have won his last 6 starts and 13 of his last 14. They are 15-3 when he starts.
  • Is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP through 11 innings across 2 starts against the Padres this season.

Padres at Dodgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Dodgers 5, Padres 3

Money line

It is hard to pick against the Dodgers with Anderson on the mound. They are 15-3 in his starts and have won his last 6 outings and 13 of his last 14. They even won his last outing despite that he allowed 5 runs over 5 innings at the San Francisco Giants Tuesday.

The Dodgers are 29-5 in their last 34 games and are 23-14 against teams with winning records. They are just too hard to pick against, especially when they have this year’s best starter for them on the mound.

Take the DODGERS (-135).

The Dodgers are 66-41 ATS overall this season. They have covered the spread in each of their 7 wins against the Padres.

The Padres are 51-59 ATS overall but 32-24 ATS on the road.

Of the Dodgers’ 74 wins this season, 66 have been by at least 2 runs. If you like them to win, you generally have to like them to cover. This is a better bet than the money line, too. Take the DODGERS -1.5 (+145).

Over/Under

Anderson’s last 2 starts have had totals of more than 8 runs and both of the first 2 games of the series did, but only 4 of the 9 games between these teams this season have exceeded that number.

Fourteen of Darvish’s 20 starts have had 8 or fewer runs this season.

Both starters are solid. Expect a fairly low-scoring game.

Take UNDER 8.5 (-105).

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (61-47) travel north to start a 3-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers (72-33) Friday. First pitch from Dodger Stadium is set for 10:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Dodgers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Diego had a 5-game win streak snapped Thursday with a 7-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies but the Padres are 7-3 straight up (SU) over their last 10 games.

Los Angeles is 8-2 SU over its last 10 games and has won 5 straight, including a 4-game sweep at the San Francisco Giants Monday-Thursday.

Season series: The Dodgers lead 5-2 and have outscored the Padres 35-14.

Padres at Dodgers projected starters

LHP Sean Manaea vs. RHP Tony Gonsolin

Manaea is 6-5 with a 4.25 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 9.1 K/9 in 110 IP over 19 starts.

  • Last start: Win, 3-2, Sunday at home vs. the Minnesota Twins with 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 HR, 3 BB and 7 K.
  • 2022 vs. the Dodgers: 1 start — a 10-2 loss at home April 24 — with 4 1/3 IP, 7 R (6 ER), 6 H, 2 HR, 3 BB and 5 K.

Gonsolin is 12-1 with a 2.41 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 in 104 2/3 IP across 19 starts.

  • Last start: Win, 7-3, Sunday at the Rockies with 5 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 HR, 1 BB and 6 K.
  • 2022 vs. the Padres: 1 start — a 5-1 home win July 1 — with 7 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 HR, 0 BB and 8 K.

Padres at Dodgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 4, Dodgers 2

Money line

BET HALF-UNIT on the PADRES (+130) because they are 15-10 SU as road underdogs and there’s a “line freeze” in the betting market, which suggests the Dodgers (-160) could be a trap line.

The oddsmakers are at least comfortable taking more pro-L.A. action because nearly two-thirds of the handle is on the Dodgers according to Pregame.com but the line hasn’t budged at Tipico Sportsbook.

However, L.A. ranks higher than San Diego in the 3 most important phases of the game (starting and relief pitching and hitting) and the Under is my favorite look in the Padres-Dodgers.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS with a “lean” to the Padres +1.5 (-155) because they are 19-6 RL as road underdogs and I’d love some insurance for our San Diego ML wager.

But, the Dodgers are 30-20 RL as home favorites and 6 of their 7 meetings with the Padres have been decided by at least 2 runs.

Over/Under

BET the UNDER 8.5 (-105).

Both starters pitch better on 4 days of rest than any other rest split, and the Padres have gone Under the total in Manaea’s last 4 starts on 4 days of rest. On top of that, the Dodgers are 5-13-1 O/U in Gonsolin starts this year.

San Diego is also 12-19-1 O/U as an underdog, L.A. is 40-54-9 O/U as a favorite, Padres-Dodgers have gone Under the total in 5 of their last 7 meetings and Padres-Dodgers have a combined 33-52-4 O/U record in division games.

Most of the market is barreling into the Over 8.5 (-115) according to Pregame.com because there are sluggers littered throughout both lineups. Since both starters have above-average stuff and both bullpens are reliable, this feels like a good spot to fade the market backing the Over.
