Nets star Ben Simmons had 11 points, seven rebounds, and 11 assists in his return to Philadelphia. He was booed as expected, but the volume seemed to be less than anticipated. Kyrie Irving scored 23 points while Durant scored 20 points which ended his streak of games with at least 25 points at 17.

Tobias Harris scored 24 points despite dealing with a hip issue coming into the game and an ankle injury during the game. De’Anthony Melton had 22 points on some impressive long-range shooting while Paul Reed had 19 points off the bench in one of the impactful performances of his career.

Tuesday’s game came down to the Nets being unable to defend the three-point as Philadelphia shot 16-of-32 on 3-pointers, or rebound the basketball (the Sixers had 20 offensive rebounds). Brooklyn could use some size in its frontcourt, but until then, here are the Nets player grades:

Nets’ Kyrie Irving praises Royce O’Neale’s intangibles

Nets star Kyrie Irving on Royce O’Neale and the intangibles he brings to the team.

With the Brooklyn Nets’ first preseason game took place earlier this week, a lot of roleplayers were given big-time minutes to see an athlete’s capabilities.

Star guard Kyrie Irving talked with HoopsHype reporter Michael Soto and discussed what O’Neale brings to the franchise.

“Royce is one of those players that you want on your team because he’s had a lot of experience. He’s been through a lot of battles. He understands the nuances of the game and what it takes to win. He didn’t necessarily get over the hump in Utah, but he was a part of a lot of those teams that led the league in offensive efficiency. I think he brings intangibles to our team really well, and we can utilize him on that wing to be the defensive stopper we know that he naturally is and also add some dimensions on offense for us by being a space-out shooter. He moves and plays the game well.”

O’Neale racked up 11 points in the team’s first preseason matchup, the team will likely utilize him throughout the season.

Nets’ Royce O’Neale shocked that Jazz team was dismantled

A HoopsHype reporter talked with Nets’ forward Royce O’Neale about being traded and his expectations for this season.

Recently acquired forward Royce O’Neale was traded to the Brooklyn Nets organization after playing on the Utah Jazz for the past five years, he discussed his thoughts on his former team about the trade.

Basketball insider Michael Soto of HoopsHype got to interview O’Neale and discussed the trade. Soto asked O’Neale if he was shocked to have been shipped, to which he responded, ” I was definitely shocked. I had been there for five years. The team we had for a couple of years fell short. I thought we were going to build on it. Things happened, so keep it moving.”

O’Neale also discussed his thoughts on the team while being traded, ” That was the summer. Nobody cares about it now. We’re all here, and we’re going to make it work. We have a lot of work to do to get to where we want to go. That’s what we’re focusing on.”

Nets’ Royce O’Neale broke his own mom’s ankles and sent her flying with a devastating spin move

Royce O’Neale later tweeted that he was “lucky” that he wasn’t grounded.

Welcome to Layup Lines, our daily NBA newsletter where we’ll prep you for a tip-off of tonight’s action, from what to watch to bets to make. Subscribe here to get it delivered to your inbox every afternoon.

Royce O’Neale, who was recently traded from the Utah Jazz to the Brooklyn Nets, took a very big risk last week.

Last week, I showed you a video of Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum ferociously blocking a shot taken by his 4-year-old son Deuce. But that was safe because he is the parent in that relationship. O’Neale tried something far bolder.

The former Baylor forward was hosting a basketball camp, which his mom was kind enough to attend. The two ended up on the court and his mother, Deborah Kingwood, decided to guard her son in the post.

It probably wasn’t the best idea, because here is how it went down:

That’s right, folks. With his back to the basket, O’Neale hit Kingwood with a devastating spin move that sent her flying several feet away from where she picked him up near the hoop.

She then played dead and stretched like a starfish, a nice touch for added drama. O’Neale went over to check on his mother, but before that, he had to do what any hooper would do.

He completed the easy layup first, then ran over to help her get off the floor. O’Neale later tweeted that he was “lucky” that he wasn’t grounded.

The Tip-Off

@TheCrawsOver

Last week, I interviewed NBA legend Jamal Crawford. I wanted to share some of that conversation with you:

“Everything starts with your feet when you’re an athlete. You will not perform well if something is wrong with your feet. You’re not going to enjoy playing. You’re not going to have as much fun. My son JJ and I have stretch routines for our feet. We have stretch routines where we use a softball and loosen up and keep our feet relaxed.

There are so many things I didn’t know that I’m giving to him and my team. That’s part of our routine. We feel ready for whatever movement might come. When you’re on the court, you’re just reacting. When you’re young, you think you can never get hurt. You’re like: ‘Get hurt? I just grew a new muscle. I don’t get hurt.’ I don’t want them to overthink it and scare them. But I want it in the back of their mind and just introduce them to how to take care of their body. It’s so important. I would’ve played even longer if I knew the stuff I know now.”

3 weird Jazz offseason moves that aren’t going to make Donovan Mitchell happy and suggest something big might happen

How much longer will we see Donovan Mitchell play for the Utah Jazz?

The Utah Jazz, one of the most successful regular season teams of the last few years, are currently having an especially weird offseason.

When fans look at the moves the organization has made thus far, it’s a bit hard to understand what the intentions are here. But it doesn’t seem like they are making moves that satisfy their franchise cornerstone, Donovan Mitchell, very happy.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst certainly suggested as much during a recent appearance on First Take. Additionally, recent social media activity from Mitchell may imply something similar.

We don’t know what will happen next, of course, but maybe a re-build is on the horizon. Here are some of the reasons we may believe as much:
