Relive the excitement from Alabama’s Round of 32 win over Grand Canyon with the top photos from the game!

Alabama basketball took down Grand Canyon in a low-scoring thriller that grabbed the nation’s attention. The four-seed Crimson Tide battled to the very end to defeat the No. 12-seeded ‘Lopes and advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

Mark Sears, once again, took charge of the team and led Alabama in scoring and rebounds. His leadership has boosted the Tide all season long and is now helping them in a deep March Madness tournament run.

Up next for head coach Nate oats and his team is the top-seeded UNC Tar Heels in the West Region. An upset win in Los Angeles would take the Tide to the Elite Eight.

Before looking ahead, however, relive the excitement from Alabama’s most recent win over Grand Canyons with the top images from the contest.

Alabama takes down Grand Canyon in low-scoring thriller, advances to Sweet 16

Despite it being a lot closer than many anticipated, Alabama defeats Grand Canyon and moves on to the Sweet 16.

No. 4 seed Alabama makes it out of the Round 32 after defeating No. 12 seed Grand Canyon University with a final score of 72-61. This will be the Crimson Tide’s second consecutive trip to the Sweet 16.

Now, Nate Oats and his team will take on the top-seeded UNC Tar Heels for a trip to the Elite Eight.

Though many fans had things to say about the officiating of the game, the Crimson Tide players came out ready to play a style of ball they weren’t all too comfortable with. It wasn’t a fast-paced, high-scoring affair. It ended up being a physical battle at the rim, with Alabama’s ability to shoot the three being one of the biggest difference makers.

It should not come as a surprise that Mark Sears led the Tide in scoring with 26 points, but he also had a team-high 12 rebounds.

The biggest storyline to follow ahead of playing UNC will be the health of Latrell Wrightsell, who suffered a head injury early in the first half and was ruled out after being taken to the locker room.

Alabama advances to Round of 32 after high-scoring win over Charleston

Alabama basketball advances to the second round of March Madness after a statement win in the Round of 64 over 13-seed College of Charleston.

Two high-powered offenses took the court in Spokane, Washington, but only one earned the opportunity to advance. After putting up triple digits over No. 13 seed College of Charleston, No. 4 seed Alabama moves on to the Round of 32. The final score was 109-96, advantage Crimson Tide.

The Crimson Tide will now face the winner of No. 5 St. Mary’s and No. 12 Grand Canyon in the second round of the tournament.

Though the game started a little slow for the Tide, the offense got to work and never let up once the scoring party got started. Charleston had a slight lead early in the first half, but couldn’t stick around for too long. It was all Alabama for the majority of the contest.

Alabama advances with ease, but is the only team from the Yellowhammer State to win its opening matchup. Auburn, Samford and UAB all fell to their opponents.

Mark Sears led the team in scoring, which should not come as a surprise. Despite only having five assists and four rebounds, Sears managed to get a lot done on his own, putting up an impressive 30 points.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN: Stat leaders from Alabama’s 73-51 NCAA Tournament win over Maryland

Alabama’s stat leaders from its dominating NCAA Tournament win over Maryland, 73-51!

Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team are dancing their way to Louisville for the Sweet 16 after defeating Maryland in dominating fashion, 73-51 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Senior guard Jahvon Quinerly led the way for the Crimson Tide with 22 points as he connected on four of his six three-point attempts on the night.

After being held scoreless in the round of 62, star freshman Brandon Miller dropped 19 points and hauled in seven rebounds to help lead the Crimson Tide to victory.

Charles Bediako also imposed his will against Maryland recording a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Here is a complete breakdown of Alabama’s box score from its impressive win over Maryland!

Brandon Miller’s availability in question for Round of 32 matchup versus Maryland

Alabama head coach Nate Oats made it clear that there is still some uncertainty regarding the health and availability status of Brandon Miller.

After hearing Alabama head coach Nate Oats speak with the media, there seems to be some uncertainty about whether Brandon Miller will play in the Crimson Tide’s Round of 32 game against Maryland. Miller suffered a groin injury in the SEC Tournament and has been dealing with it since then.

The Tide are set to face the Maryland Terrapins in the Round of 32 with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16.

Miller played in Alabama’s tournament opener against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He scored zero points in 19 minutes of action.

On Friday, Oats spoke with the media and seemed like a decision had not yet been made regarding Miller’s availability.

“I think he’s smart enough to know if he can go or not and help us. If he can’t, the good thing about our team is we’ve got a lot of depth. … we’ve got different options. Pray we don’t have to go to all those,” Oats said.

If Miller is unable to play, Oats could look for players like Noah Gurley, Dom Welch, and Rylan Griffen to step up. The three are key players off of the bench but could be called upon.

Oats also mentioned how the Tide could elect to go the ‘small-ball’ route.

“We do have long, athletic wings, not as long as Brandon. We can also go a little smaller [without Miller]. When we beat Auburn at our place, we’re down 17 with 9:30 to go in that game. We went with Jahvon Quinerly, Mark Sears, and Jaden Bradley lineup. Kind of spread them all out, went with all three guards, and rode with it through that in overtime,” Oats said.

Whatever the case may be, Alabama has enough depth to win without Miller. However, it would make things much easier if the team’s leading-scorer and rebounder were on the floor. Not to mention, he is a future lottery pick as well. The more options, the better off the Tide will be.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Miller’s injury situation as well as Alabama basketball news.

Alabama’s road to becoming a No. 1 seed has been fairly easy. As for Maryland, it has been anything but easy.

The Terrapins finished conference play with an 11-9 record with unexpected losses coming to Nebraska, Michigan, and Rutgers.

To the Terrapins credit, they did take down Purdue, Illinois, and Indiana. That played a large role in the Terrapins reaching the NCAA Tournament.

Mike Brey question answered in The Athletic mailbag

Like what the Irish might have in store?

[autotag]Mike Brey[/autotag] proved once again this past season that he could lead Notre Dame to success when given the right collection of talent. By advancing out of the First Four of the NCAA Tournament and then making the round of 32, Brey made the Irish one of the feel-good stories in the early part of March Madness. But what about the Irish going forward?

Eamonn Brennan of The Athletic sought to answer that question posed by a reader as part of a mailbag. The full version only is available to subscribers, but here is what Brennan thinks about Brey:

“It would appear Brey is brewing up a refined version of what he is basically always trying to brew up: an experienced team with at least four (and ideally five) shooters on the floor, punctuated, if possible, by NBA potential. [autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag] is gone, sure, but bringing in combo guard [autotag]JJ Starling[/autotag] is a coup, particularly because Starling can just vibe while the rest of a very experienced team coming off an excellent postseason handles the rest. Notre Dame will probably be very good on the offensive end, just OK on the defensive end, fun to watch, and not very much fun to play.”

If that’s what we have to look forward to beginning in November, reserve your seats at Purcell Pavilion now. The good times indeed have returned to the Irish.

Blake Wesley taken by San Antonio Spurs in first round of NBA draft

Blake is heading to the Alamo.

It has been a long time since Notre Dame had one of its own enter the NBA with such promise. The term “one-and-done” in relation to the NBA typically isn’t thrown around South Bend, but we officially can give that label to Blake Wesley. When he was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 25th overall pick, he became the first Irish draftee since [autotag]Demetrius Jackson[/autotag] in 2016 and the first taken in the first round since [autotag]Jerian Grant[/autotag] in 2015.

Wesley did well for himself in his lone season with his hometown university. He led the Irish with 14.4 points a game and was second with 2.4 assists a game. That made him instrumental in the Irish’s run to the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. The ACC agreed, naming him second team all-conference and to the all-freshman team.

Now, Wesley gets a chance to prove himself at the next level. Good luck to him with the Spurs, who will be extremely lucky to have him. Here’s hoping Dejounte Murray and company won’t haze him too much or too harshly.

Notre Dame gives out 2021-22 awards

Who was the best of the best for the Irish this season?

The 2021-22 season didn’t start like it would be a memorable one for Notre Dame. Starting the schedule with a 4-5 record will do that. Then, the Irish rattled off winning streaks of six, four and five and stayed in contention for the ACC regular-season championship almost to the end. Their resume was enough to be selected for their first NCAA Tournament since 2017, and a pair of wins to get to the round of 32 tied a nice bow on this 24-11 season.

Before this iteration of the Irish goes its separate ways for good, there were some team awards to give out. The informal presentation was held at Rolfs Athletic Center. When you look the winners, there probably won’t be any surprises if you followed this team closely from the beginning. Let’s take a look at which players were rewarded for being the best of the best for the Irish this past season:
