Two high-powered offenses took the court in Spokane, Washington, but only one earned the opportunity to advance. After putting up triple digits over No. 13 seed College of Charleston, No. 4 seed Alabama moves on to the Round of 32. The final score was 109-96, advantage Crimson Tide.
The Crimson Tide will now face the winner of No. 5 St. Mary’s and No. 12 Grand Canyon in the second round of the tournament.
Though the game started a little slow for the Tide, the offense got to work and never let up once the scoring party got started. Charleston had a slight lead early in the first half, but couldn’t stick around for too long. It was all Alabama for the majority of the contest.
Alabama advances with ease, but is the only team from the Yellowhammer State to win its opening matchup. Auburn, Samford and UAB all fell to their opponents.
Mark Sears led the team in scoring, which should not come as a surprise. Despite only having five assists and four rebounds, Sears managed to get a lot done on his own, putting up an impressive 30 points.
