Seahawks promote DT Anthony Rush to active roster ahead of Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks have promoted defensive tackle Anthony Rush to the active roster ahead of the Week-2 matchup against the Patriots.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a personnel move Saturday afternoon ahead of the team’s Week-2 matchup against the New England Patriots in prime time. Seattle promoted defensive tackle Anthony Rush from the practice squad to the active roster.

Rush can provide depth along the defensive line Sunday night with Rasheem Green listed as doubtful to play with a neck injury.

Rush was added to the Seahawks practice squad this year after he was waived from the Eagles’ roster during the initial 53-man cuts. He appeared in nine games for Philadelphia last year.

Seahawks activate Chad Wheeler from practice squad to active roster

The Seattle Seahawks have activated tackle Chad Wheeler from the practice squad to the active roster for depth during Week 1 in Atlanta.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a roster move Saturday afternoon, promoting tackle Chad Wheeler from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of the Week 1 matchup in Atlanta against the Falcons.

Earlier in the day, Seattle had added tackle Jamarco Jones to the injury report as questionable with an undisclosed illness. With Cedric Ogbuehi already ruled out of the season opener with a pectoral injury, Wheeler gives the Seahawks a little insurance on the offensive line.

In light of the roster rule changes this year allowing a 55-man roster on game day, Seattle does not need to make a corresponding move to clear a spot for Wheeler, who can also return to the practice squad Monday without having to clear waivers.

Roster Moves: Washington cuts WR Darvin Kidsy, signs WR Tony Brown

Washington made a couple of roster moves on Monday, cutting ties with WR Darvin Kidsy and bringing in rookie WR Tony Brown.

The Washington Football Team cut ties with WR Darvin Kidsy on Monday morning, ending his three year stint with the team. In his place, Washington decided to pick up WR Tony Brown, a rookie who went undrafted and was released by the Cleveland Browns earlier this summer.

Brown is a former member of the Colorado Buffs, and he played with Washington QB Steven Montez in college. During his senior year, Brown tied for the team lead with 56 receptions, while recording 707 yards and five touchdowns along the way. He also earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors for his performance in 2019, and at one point came down with this impressive toe-tap touchdown last season.

For Kidsy, it was likely going to be a long-shot for him to make the roster cut in Washington once again this season. In his two years with the team, he’s appeared in only 5 games with a total of one reception for eight yards.

Seahawks place Branden Jackson on injured reserve, sign Pita Taumoepenu

The Seattle Seahawks have placed defensive end Branden Jackson on the injured reserve and signed Pita Taumoepenu to his place on the roster.

The Seattle Seahawks pulled off a couple of roster moves Sunday afternoon before the team’s final scrimmage of the summer. Seattle placed defensive end Branden Jackson on the injured reserve and signed defensive end Pita Taumoepenu to take his place on the active roster.

Jackson was carted off the field during the Seahawks’ first mock game at CenturyLink Field but was able to return to the team facility the following day.

“There’s some concerns that they’re going to check out to make sure we’re really clear on, so it’s going to take us little bit of time,” Carroll had said of Jackson’s status at the time.

“We’re going to be very deliberate about taking time,” Carroll continued. “Any time you get hit in the head like that, we’ve got to make sure we take all of the time that it takes and all of the considerations. There’s a lot of stuff we’re going to check him out on. We want to make sure he’s OK.”

Taumoepenu spent part of last year on Seattle’s practice squad. He was present at Sunday’s scrimmage, sporting jersey No. 59.

The Seahawks also confirmed the signing of wide receiver Paul Richardson.

Seahawks bring back former Seattle wide receiver Paul Richardson

The Seattle Seahawks are bringing back former Seattle wide receiver Paul Richardson, who spent the last two seasons in Washington.

The Seattle Seahawks have reunited with another familiar face just in time for the start of the regular season. On Saturday, NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo confirmed the team would be signing wide Paul Richarson back to the roster.

Seattle had hosted Richardson earlier in the week on a visit and the wide receiver had gone through the mandated COVID-19 testing.

The Richardson signing makes sense in light of the recent injuries to the receiving corps. Phillip Dorsett (foot) and John Ursua (hamstring) have both missed practiced over the last week.

Richardson was originally selected by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons in Seattle before signing in Washington in 2018. He was released this February.

Report: Cowboys release second-year DE to make roster room for Everson Griffen

The Cowboys had to create space on the roster, so a flyer from the Jason Garrett era got the boot.

The Dallas Cowboys can only carry 80 active players during training camp, thanks to Covid-19 protocols. Their cutdown was made easier thanks to opt-outs, but when a move is made to bring in additional help, there will always be someone who has to pay the price.

In the wake of agreeing to a one-year deal with free agent Everson Griffen, Dallas has made the coordinating move of releasing second-year pro Jalen Jelks, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Drafted No. 241 overall out of Oregon in 2019, the 6-foot-5, 256 pound Jelks was placed on injured reserve after the Cowboys’ final preseason game last year. It was one of those, wink-wink, undisclosed-variety injuries that kept him out the entire season. His rookie season ended before it began, but he entered 2020 hoping for a fresh start and brand new coaching staff.

The previous Dallas regime was reportedly much higher on Jelks than his seventh-round draft slot. Said former head coach Jason Garrett of Jelks:

“(He was) rated very high on our board, and we’re getting to the end of our draft, and he’s still sitting there like a blinking red light. There is so much to like about this guy: He’s big, long, athletic, plays with a relentless spirit, great motor, great energy, around the ball a lot. He plays the right way, has a lot of the traits we’re looking for in our defensive linemen.”

Of course, the brand-new staff cut both ways and for Jelks in the wrong direction. Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan seems to prefer bulkier body types, but Jelks had the size and versatility to be a move piece, and potentially get snaps as the designated pass rusher in a multiple-front defense.

In the end though, the staff would prefer to get more reps for the players they brought in this past offseason. It’s going to be a standard theme as the roster gets molded over the next month. Dorance Armstrong and Joe Jackson remain from the previous draft classes while the 2020 squad has added fifth-round pick Bradlee Anae and UDFAs Ron’Dell Carter, Ladarius Hamilton and Azur Kamara.

Seahawks make defensive end Branden Jackson re-signing official

The Seattle Seahawks have officially announced the re-signing of defensive end Branden Jackson, who had been released on July 26.

The Seattle Seahawks released defensive end Branden Jackson less than two weeks ago and now he’s once again a member of the roster.

The Seahawks public relations department tweeted the news on Thursday afternoon. Jackson’s potential re-signing was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport earlier this week.

The Seahawks now have one spot open on the 80-man roster.

Jackson originally joined the Seahawks in 2017 as a member of the practice squad before his eventual promotion to the active roster. He had re-signed his restricted free agent tender in April before he was released on July 26.

The terms of his new deal, however, will likely be less than the $2.133 million value of his restricted free agent tender.

Last season for Seattle, Jackson started three of 15 games played, logging 20 tackles, two passes defended and two sacks on the year.

Saints make James Hurst signing official, report corresponding roster move

The New Orleans Saints released veteran wide receiver Tim White and made the signing of ex-Ravens offensive lineman James Hurst official.

[jwplayer 1kGwt3gt-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints formally reported the signing of offensive lineman James Hurst on the NFL’s transaction wire, with the release of wide receiver Tim White as a corresponding move on the 90-man offseason roster.

Hurst, a veteran backup and occasional starter for the Baltimore Ravens at both left tackle and left guard, agreed to terms with the Saints on a one-year contract earlier this week. He has a good shot at making the team, and could be the backup for left tackle Terron Armstead the Saints have lacked. If nothing else, he has greater NFL experience than his competition.

As for White: he first joined the Saints practice squad last December following a high-profile workout including Antonio Brown, the embattled ex-All-Pro still trying to find his way back into the NFL. White was re-signed on a reserve/future contract after the 2019 season, but undrafted rookie additions pushed him off the roster. The Saints still have a dozen receivers under contract, so his chances of making the squad were slim.

New Orleans still has somewhere close to $9 million in cap space — the analysts at Over The Cap estimate $9.16 million, not including the Hurst deal — and several months before training camp. They shouldn’t be finished making moves just yet.

The Green Bay Packers shuffled the bottom of their roster on Saturday, placing offensive tackle Yosh Nijman on injured reserve and signing offensive tackle John Leglue from the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad.

Nijman, a rookie, was ruled out for Week 16 with an elbow injury. He’ll miss the rest of the 2019 season.

Leglue (6-6, 301) is a rookie out of Tulane. He started 38 games over four different positions in college and originally signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent. He joined the Saints practice squad following training camp.

Leglue joins Jared Veldheer and Alex Light as backups at offensive tackle behind starters David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga.
