Browns try out 7 players including two quarterbacks

The Browns welcomed 7 free agents in for tryouts including a pair of former Ole Miss QBs

The Cleveland Browns welcomed seven NFL free agents to try out for the team on Monday. It’s an interesting mix of players that includes a pair of quarterbacks.

The quarterbacks who tried out are both from Ole Miss, Jordan Ta’amu and Chad Kelly. They couldn’t be more divergent stylistically, however. Kelly is a strong-armed pocket passer and Ta’amu is a smaller, mobile, rhythm type of QB.

Among the others, former Texans linebacker Dylan Cole stands out. Cole thrived on special teams in Houston and had some decent work at inside LB for the Texans before injuries slowed his career. Wideout Darvin Kidsy is a speedster who has spent time with the Football Team.

The full septet who tried out, per the NFL’s transaction wire:

  • Dylan Cole, LB
  • Jonathon Johnson, WR
  • Chad Kelly, QB
  • Darvin Kidsy, WR
  • T.J. Morrison, CB
  • Jordan Ta’amu, QB
  • Kerrith Whyte, RB

Seahawks sign tight end Michael Jacobson, waive receiver Darvin Kidsy

The Seattle Seahawks have signed tight end Michael Jacobson, a former Iowa State basketball player, and waived wide receiver Darvin Kidsy.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple of roster moves on Friday ahead of training camp practice. Seattle signed tight Michael Jacobson, who played college basketball at Iowa State. He’s listed as a tight end on the Seahawks roster.

Jacobson did play football in high school and was initially headed to Iowa State on a football scholarship but ended up at Nebraska where he played basketball for two years instead.

He ultimately ended up at Iowa State, though, and played two seasons on the basketball team before spending last year with the Kyiv-Basket of the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague.

To make room for Jacobson on the roster, the Seahawks waived wide receiver Darvin Kidsy.

Roster Moves: Washington cuts WR Darvin Kidsy, signs WR Tony Brown

Washington made a couple of roster moves on Monday, cutting ties with WR Darvin Kidsy and bringing in rookie WR Tony Brown.

The Washington Football Team cut ties with WR Darvin Kidsy on Monday morning, ending his three year stint with the team. In his place, Washington decided to pick up WR Tony Brown, a rookie who went undrafted and was released by the Cleveland Browns earlier this summer.

Brown is a former member of the Colorado Buffs, and he played with Washington QB Steven Montez in college. During his senior year, Brown tied for the team lead with 56 receptions, while recording 707 yards and five touchdowns along the way. He also earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors for his performance in 2019, and at one point came down with this impressive toe-tap touchdown last season.

For Kidsy, it was likely going to be a long-shot for him to make the roster cut in Washington once again this season. In his two years with the team, he’s appeared in only 5 games with a total of one reception for eight yards.
