Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy embraces DeSean Jackson comparisons, playing weight goals

#Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy told reporters that he is embracing comparisons to DeSean Jackson and elaborated on his playing weight goals.

The many rookies under contract with the Kansas City Chiefs are getting their first taste of NFL life. The rookie minicamp is the first look at draft selections and undrafted talent trying to carve out a spot on the roster.

Chiefs first-round selection Xavier Worthy understands the high career expectations and many DeSean Jackson comparisons he’s received as he addressed reporters on the first day of rookie minicamp.

“Yeah, just as with punt return, his ability to make a play after the catch, and how he understood the leverage for deeper outs,” Worthy said of the similarities between his game and Jackson’s. “I feel like he had really good leverage, and I think he has the record for the longest touchdown.”

Worthy has a well-known track background and has always had a smaller frame than most of the league’s receivers. He is proud to say that hasn’t been an issue and that he has no problem unleashing force on potential tacklers.

“I was 169 [pounds]. I don’t think I took [hits] because I delivered them,” said Worthy. “I feel like it’s not gonna be a problem. I feel like just understanding your strengths and your weaknesses. I feel like that’s the big thing in the league.

“Don’t… try to hit a 215-pound linebacker. So, understanding your way and your strengths, as I said, D-Jax came into the league at 169 and understood his strengths. So just using your strengths to your strength.”

Worthy stood out in Texas because of his fantastic speed and ball skills. He reminded media members about his goal of playing weight by the time the regular season begins: “I play around the 175-170 (pounds) range,” said Worthy, “I’d be fine.”

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had plenty of success with Jackson while with the Philadelphia Eagles, so he is well aware of Worthy’s potential to bring the team success for years to come.

Next Gen Stats: Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy had highest athleticism score in 2024 draft class

According to NFL Next Gen Stats, #Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy had the highest athleticism score in the 2024 draft class.

The Kansas City Chiefs took Xavier Worthy with the No. 28 pick in the 2024 NFL draft to give Patrick Mahomes an elite deep threat to utilize next season.

Though Worthy wasn’t the first wide receiver off the board last week, his exceptional talents more than warranted selection in the first round.

After putting himself on the map by breaking the 40-yard dash record at the NFL combine, Worthy became an un-missable prospect who was both polarizing and almost universally coveted.

Worthy’s speed may have been what caused his meteoric rise up draft boards, but experts with NFL’s Next Gen Stats also had him graded as the most athletic player in the 2024 draft class overall.

Raw talent isn’t enough to propel any player to stardom in the NFL, but few athletes have the tools that come naturally to Worthy.

If he can channel his speed, agility, and strength into receptions, yards, and touchdowns in Andy Reid’s offense, the Chiefs might have found their next great wide receiver.

Check out this video of the #Chiefs’ draft picks arriving at the team’s practice facilities for rookie minicamp.

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to kick off their rookie minicamp this weekend with all of their picks from the 2024 NFL draft in attendance.

Along with their draft selections, players from around the country are set to commune in Kansas City with rookie minicamp invitations, which act as a foot in the door for future contracts with the team.

Though nothing is guaranteed for the invitees, participation in offseason workouts is a crucial part of life in the NFL.

Xavier Worthy and other rookies were seen arriving at the Chiefs’ practice facility on Friday in a video that was posted by the team’s official social media accounts.

As this is the prospects’ first taste of life in the NFL, the rookie minicamp is a crucial part of Kansas City’s offseason program and should provide plenty of intrigue for the coaching staff as they sculpt the Chiefs’ roster for next season’s title defense campaign.

NFL releases date for the start of Vikings rookie minicamp

NFL has released the dates for the start of Vikings rookie minicamp which allow for the staff to get a first hand glimpse into what have.

The NFL announced the start date for the Minnesota Vikings rookie minicamp on Thursday.

The start date has been tabbed to be May 10 and run through May 12. The team’s draft choices, such as J.J. McCarthy, Dallas Turner, Walter Rouse, Khyree Jackson, and others, will be expected to attend. Also expected in attendance will be the team’s undrafted free agent class, highlighted by UCLA’s Gabriel Murphy, who many expected to be a day three pick.

This will be the team’s first chance to get eyes on the 2024 rookie class as Vikings. Doing pre-draft visits and dinners is one thing, but seeing players, especially McCarthy, on the field leading and interacting with teammates will be big for the team as a whole.

After rookie minicamp, the team will participate in OTA offseason workouts starting May 20. From there, the team will have several dates for those before starting the mandatory minicamp on June 4.

Chiefs announce dates for 2024 rookie minicamp

The newest crop of #Chiefs rookies will hit the practice field for the first time on Saturday as the team’s 2024 rookie minicamp kicks off in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Chiefs will begin their three-day rookie minicamp on Saturday, May 4, and wrap up on Monday, May 6.

The Chiefs’ 2024 NFL draft picks, new UDFAs signings, UDFA tryouts, injured veterans, tryouts, and select first-year players will begin work at the team’s training facility. Whether they were drafted or not, rookies will experience their first moment in the NFL.

Kansas City coaches will get their first looks at Xavier Worthy, Kingsley Suamataia, Jared Wiley, and others, who will wear their recently revealed jersey numbers for the first time. The same can be said for the many undrafted free agents and rookie minicamp invitees seeking to impress the coaching staff early and hopefully be retained for future off-season activities.

Each team may hold a rookie football development program for seven consecutive weeks, beginning May 13. During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, the only exception being this weekend’s three-day post-draft rookie minicamp. Rookie camps are typically conducted on the first or second weekend following the NFL Draft.

There isn’t an available list of which injured players will take part on the weekend, but some familiar names could likely be around the facility.

Former Wisconsin safety gets NFL minicamp invite with…Jim Leonhard’s defense

Former Wisconsin Badgers safety Reggie Pearson will attend the Denver Broncos rookie minicamp, according to a post on X.

Pearson has a connection to the Broncos: longtime Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard is the team’s new safeties and secondary coach.

The safety played for the Badgers from 2018-2020. His best season came as a starter in 2019 when he recorded 60 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles and 4 pass deflections.

Pearson spent the rest of his college career at Texas Tech (2021-2022) and Oklahoma (2023). He was productive for the Sooners this past season, totaling 30 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, 1 interception and 1 forced fumble.

The veteran safety was not selected in the 2024 NFL draft or signed as an undrafted free agent. He hopes this opportunity with Leonhard’s Broncos is his opportunity to make an NFL roster.

Commanders announce dates for 2024 rookie minicamp

The NFL announced dates for all 32 rookie minicamps.

You don’t have to wait long to see Jayden Daniels in a Washington Commanders’ uniform.

The NFL announced rookie minicamp dates for all 32 teams on Wednesday, and Washington’s camp will run from May 10-12.

Of course, it is only a rookie minicamp, so fans won’t see Daniels in pads, but we may get a clue about which jersey number Daniels will wear. Daniels has always worn No. 5, which is currently worn by Washington’s most tenured player, punter Tress Way.

Daniels will likely end up in the No. 5 jersey as the new face of the franchise.

In addition to Daniels, the Commanders’ other eight draft picks will also don the burgundy and gold for the first time. Additionally, Washington signed 11 undrafted free agents who’ll also be on the field for the Commanders for the first time.

Bears announce dates for 2024 rookie minicamp

Caleb Williams’ first practice in a Bears uniform will be here before we know it.

Caleb Williams’ first time in a Bears uniform will be here sooner than you think. The Bears are set to hold their rookie minicamp from May 10–11, giving Williams, Rome Odunze, Kiran Amegadjie, Tory Taylor, and Austin Booker a chance to hit the practice field for the first time as professionals.

Joining the five players from this year’s draft class are numerous undrafted free agents, including Illinois standout defensive tackle Keith Randolph Jr. and Western Kentucky quarterback Austin Reed. A mix of signed players and invitees will hit the field, hoping to make a strong first impression. Undrafted free agents such as linebacker Jack Sanborn and quarterback Tyson Bagent used this opportunity to earn a spot on the 90-man roster, eventually becoming key contributors in the regular season.

For all the intrigue about the players who went undrafted, the spotlight will be on Williams and Odunze as they get their first official team reps together. Next weekend will hopefully be the start of a long connection in Chicago.

Panthers announce dates for rookie minicamp, OTAs, mandatory minicamp

The Panthers have some dates for their upcoming set of offseason workouts.

On Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers officially announced the dates for their upcoming set of offseason workouts.

They are as follows:

  • Rookie minicamp: May 10-12
  • OTAs (organized team activities): May 20-21, May 23, May 28-29, May 31, June 3-4, June 6
  • Mandatory minicamp: June 11-13

Rookie minicamp, of course, will feature the team’s seven-player draft class—headlined by first-round pick and University of South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette. Carolina’s selections will also be joined by the team’s undrafted free-agent signings.

For the second year in a row, the hiring of a new head coach will allow the Panthers an extra week of on-field activity with current players. Dave Canales, who is in his first year at the position, recently described the environment he hopes to implement as the offseason goes on.

“I’m trying to create a place that’s great to work at,” Canales said a few weeks ago. “A place that people get excited to come in, excited to sit in these meeting rooms. It’s entertaining, it’s informative, but it’s not too much. And just in general, it feels personal. So just trying to make sure I position myself in those high-traffic places in the building and just make that one touch a day if I can.”
