NFL announces Broncos’ offseason schedule

The Broncos will begin their offseason program on April 15, followed by OTAs in May-June and a mandatory minicamp in mid-June.

The work will soon begin for the 2024 Denver Broncos.

The NFL announced offseason workout dates for all 32 teams on Friday. Denver’s offseason program is set to begin on April 15, just over two weeks away.

After that, the Broncos will hold organized team activities beginning in late May and running into early June. Denver will then have a mandatory minicamp in mid-June followed by a summer break.

Here’s a look at the Broncos’ offseason schedule so far:

  • First Day: April 15
  • OTAs: May 21-23, May 28-30, June 3-6
  • Mandatory Minicamp: June 11-13

Still to-be-announced are the dates for the team’s rookie minicamp, which was held from May 12-14 last year. Denver is also still finalizing a training camp schedule.

Last year, the Broncos announced their training camp schedule in late June. The 2023 training camp schedule began on July 28 and wrapped up on Aug. 17. With potential construction at the facility, Denver is still finalizing plans for fans attending practices this summer.

After training camp, the Broncos will begin preseason in August followed by the regular season kicking off in September.

Sean Payton charges Broncos players with staying on track during summer break

“They’re smart enough to understand the importance of the offseason and getting in a routine,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said.

[connatix div_id=”3f8b015acdd24c648befc5d5dac47469″ player_id=”afe1e038-d3c2-49c0-922d-6511a229f69c” cid=”7cbcea0d-4ce2-4c75-9a8d-fbe02a192c24″]

The NFL has a slow period from mid-June to late July, a lull between minicamp and training camp.

Denver Broncos players are currently on summer break — they will report back to the team’s facility ahead of the start of training camp in late July.

Broncos coach Sean Payton wants players to get some rest and relaxation this summer, but he also charged them with the task of continuing their workouts (or rehab) and studying ahead of camp.

“We’re physically at a point where these guys have done a lot of work,” Payton said on June 14. “We talked to them today about how quickly it can dissipate. We kind of use the analogy if you’re climbing something, it’s much easier to repel down. It’s slow going up. The time away is healthy for them. They will all have a workout plan. We’ll have some players here that are still recovering from injuries.”

Payton noted that its easier in today’s modern NFL than it was in the past to track offseason progress while players are away from the facility.

“[T]hese guys have a better understanding scientifically of where they’re at [with] measurables regarding how they’re lifting, how they’re moving and how they’re running,” Payton said. “We have data now that we never used to have that can reinforce, ‘This is where you’re at.’ They’re smart enough to understand the importance of the offseason and getting in a routine [with their] training.”

The goal is to have everyone return next month in good shape — both physically and mentally. Then the grind will begin, starting with training camp and continuing — hopefully — into the playoffs.

Broncos’ upcoming offseason schedule

The Broncos are set to hold a rookie minicamp later this week followed by the start of OTAs two weeks later.

The biggest free agency signings have been made the 2023 NFL draft is now in the rearview mirror, but there are a few more notable dates on the calendar for the Denver Broncos over the next two months.

First, the team will hold a rookie minicamp from May 12-14. In addition to their draft class and undrafted free agent signings, the Broncos will also invite more than a dozen undrafted rookies and veteran free agents to try out at rookie minicamp.

About one week later, the full team will get together for the start of organized team activities. Denver is scheduled to hold OTAs from May 23-25, May 30-June 1 and June 5-8.

Once OTAs wrap up, Broncos players will return for a mandatory minicamp from June 13-15. After that minicamp, players will get a summer vacation before reporting back to the facility for the start of training camp in late July.

Training camp and preseason will run through August, followed by the regular season beginning in September. We’re four months away from the return of real football, but the players will be back on the field soon.

Broncos begin offseason workout program with little fanfare

The Broncos started their offseason program with no pressers, no arrival videos. Sean Payton has said the team will be quieter this year.

The Denver Broncos kicked off their offseason program on Tuesday with little fanfare. No press conferences. No photos or videos of players arriving for meetings and weight training.

Broncos players have their heads down and they’re getting to work. That’s just the way new coach Sean Payton wants it.

“The work has started. I kind of use this term, ‘A little bit more anonymous donors this season,’” Payton said of his offseason approach in February. “Just know that we’re working, but with a little bit less visibility on social media and all those other things. We’re going to get to work, and ultimately, it’s how we do in the fall [that matters].”

This is in direct contrast to the team’s approach last spring. Following the arrival of then-coach Nathaniel Hackett and quarterback Russell Wilson in 2022, hype for the Broncos was off the charts, and much of it was created by the team.

Payton doesn’t want that to happen again. So, no player interviews until the NFL mandates them in May. No hype videos on social media. Not even Payton is speaking to the media.

Denver’s players are working, they’re just working quietly.

Sean Payton corrects NFL’s offseason schedule for Broncos

The NFL published an offseason schedule that included a Broncos voluntary minicamp from April 24-26. Sean Payton says that’s not happening.

Last month, the NFL announced offseason schedules for all 32 teams.

The listed schedule for the Denver Broncos included a voluntary minicamp from April 24-26, just before the 2023 NFL draft. At the NFL owners’ meetings in Arizona last week, Broncos coach Sean Payton said that schedule is wrong.

“We’re not having a voluntary minicamp in April,” Payton said on March 27. “I know the camp that you are referencing. It was on the league’s schedule, not our schedule.”

Payton said the team will do Phase 1 for a month, with just lifting and running from April into early May. That’s similar to what he did with the New Orleans Saints.

“[W]e’ve done that before in New Orleans,” Payton said. “Just trying to extend — there’s a progression, I think, when you train athletes. I think we’re too quick to move out of Phase 1 into football after three weeks of lifting and running. That’s not enough time.”

The Broncos are scheduled to hold organized team activities in late May and early June followed by a mandatory minicamp in mid-June. Training camp typically begins in late July.

Jaguars’ full 2023 offseason program schedule

The Jaguars will begin their offseason program on April 17 and wrap up with a three-day minicamp in June.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will enter the 2023 season with high hopes after winning the AFC South and a playoff game in January. The path to repeating as division champs will begin with the team’s offseason program.

On Friday, the NFL released the organized team activity (OTA) and minicamp schedules for all 32 teams, including the Jaguars.

Jacksonville will get started on Monday, April 17 when Phase One of the team’s offseason program begins. For two weeks, activity will be limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.

Phase Two will start at the beginning of May and consists of on-field workouts, drills, and walk-throughs. No live contact or offense vs. defense drills are allowed until the Jaguars begin their OTA schedule (or Phase Three). Those 10 practices are scheduled as follows:

  • Monday, May 22
  • Tuesday, May 23
  • Thursday, May 25
  • Tuesday, May 30
  • Wednesday, May 31
  • Friday, June 2
  • Monday, June 5
  • Tuesday, June 6
  • Wednesday, June 7
  • Thursday, June 8

The offseason program will conclude with a three-day mandatory minicamp from June 12-14.

Broncos can begin offseason program on April 3

With a new head coach, the #Broncos can begin their offseason workout program on April 3.

Because they have a new head coach in Sean Payton, the Denver Broncos will be allowed to begin their offseason program early this year.

The Broncos can begin their offseason workout program at their UCHealth Training Center on Monday, April 3 (teams with returning coaches can begin on April 17). After that, Denver will likely begin organized team activities in May.

Last year, the Broncos announced their offseason schedule in early April (we already know most of the key dates for the 2023 NFL offseason).

Before the offseason program begins in April, Denver will attend the NFL scouting combine (Feb. 28-March 6) and sign players during free agency, which officially begins on March 15.

The Broncos currently have five picks to use in the NFL draft (April 27-29). After that, the club will hold rookie minicamp from either May 5-8 or May 12-15.

The NFL is expected to announce its 2023 schedule in early May. Denver will later hold OTAs and minicamp in June before a summer break. The Broncos are expected to begin training camp in late July.

Preseason will begin in August and the regular season will start in September. Bring on the offseason!

Broncos wrap up minicamp; players now on summer break

That’s a wrap on OTAs and minicamp! Broncos players are now off until training camp begins in late July.

The slow part of the NFL offseason has officially arrived.

After free agency in March and the draft in April, attention turned to organized team activities in May followed by a mandatory minicamp in June. Camp wrapped up on Wednesday and players will now get a summer break for the next month.

Players will appreciate and break and vacation opportunity, but the work won’t stop after they’ve left the team’s facility.

“I’ll probably take a couple of days [off] at max, just like a vacation, but 100% of my day is going to be consumed with training, football and getting with my guy [trainer] back at home,” defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones said last week. “I have a job to do and I’m going to prepare to the best of my ability. I’m not going to be slacking on the offseason about this.”

Players will report back to the team’s UCHealth Training Center for the start of training camp in late July. Camp will run into preseason, which leads into the regular season. Football will be back before you know it.

What’s next after the NFL draft? Here’s the Broncos’ upcoming schedule

The NFL draft is over, now what? Up next for the Broncos is rookie minicamp, followed by OTAs.

The 2022 NFL draft has come and gone and the Denver Broncos now have 22 new rookies (including draft picks and UDFA signings) on their roster.

The draft was the last major offseason event of the spring on the calendars of NFL fans, but there’s more on deck for Denver in the coming weeks.

Next week, the NFL will announce the Broncos’ full schedule on May 12 (and several games could be announced before then). After that, Denver will hold a rookie minicamp the weekend of May 13.

Following rookie minicamp, the Broncos will begin organized team activities, holding sessions from May 23-24/26, May 31-June 1, June 3, June 6-7 and June 9-10.

After OTAs, Denver will have a mandatory minicamp from June 13-15. Players will then get a summer break until training camp.

The Broncos typically begin training camp in late July, with a camp schedule announced sometime in June. Most of Denver’s training camp practices this summer will be open to fans and free to attend.
