Purdue WR Rondale Moore opts back in for 2020 college football season

Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore is opting back in for the 2020 college football season now that the Big Ten will play this fall

Another top prospect in changing course and will play college football this fall after all.

Following the Big Ten’s decision to play a delayed fall season instead of postponing until the spring, Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore will be rejoining the Boilermakers for the 2020 college football season. Moore had previously opted out of the season back when the Big Ten was still planning not to play in the fall.

An undersized but explosive playmaker, Moore is one of the most dynamic players in the country, and should be in the first-round conversation for the 2021 NFL Draft. Scouts will now get a chance to see even more film on him after an injury cut his 2019 season short.

Players we’ll miss most from the Big 10 and PAC-12: Purdue WR Rondale Moore

Ranking the 10 football players we will miss watching the most from the Big 10 and PAC-12: No. 10 Purdue WR Rondale Moore.

The Big Ten announced its decision Tuesday to postpone fall sports according to their official website.  Just minutes after, the PAC-12 made the decision to postpone their season as well.

With two of the Power Five conferences not playing, the entire college football season is now up in the air.  The SEC, ACC and Big 12 still have plans to have their conference only seasons, but there are a number of players, coaches and teams that college football fans will miss watching dearly.

The No. 10 player we will miss watching most this year from the Big Ten and PAC-12 is Purdue redshirt sophomore wide receiver Rondale Moore.  Moore had a breakout 2018 freshman season for the Boilermakers, leading the Big Ten in receptions (114), yards (1,258) and tied for the leader in touchdowns (12).

Moore went for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns in Purdue’s massive upset victory over a talented 2018 Ohio State team, handing the Buckeyes their only loss of the regular season.  He was electric to say the least.

Moore only saw action in four games in 2019 as he was injured for most of the season.  He was in the talks of the nation’s best receivers after his freshman year and was finally healthy coming into 2020.  Moore will be entering the 2021 NFL Draft.

Check out Moore’s 2018 highlight reel here.

2021 NFL Draft: 11 Big Ten prospects the Eagles should target after the conference cancels season

11 Big-Ten prospect the Eagles should target in the 2021 NFL Draft

The Big Ten will be without college football this fall after conference presidents and chancellors voted Tuesday to postpone all fall sports seasons, including football, amid the coronavirus pandemic with the hopes of playing in the spring.

With the college football season now in doubt and in the NFL Draft in the spring, here are 11 Big Ten standouts the should Eagles target:

***

1. Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue

A 5-foot-9 dynamo, Moore committed to Purdue during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl after changing his mind about Texas.

Moore recorded 1,164 receiving yards and 203 rushing yards to go along with thirteen combined touchdowns. Moore’s 2,048 all-purpose yards were the most since Dorien Bryant recorded 2,121 in 2007, and the second-most in Purdue history.

Moore only played in four games last season but is still projected to be a first-round pick.

Purdue star WR Rondale Moore opts out of 2020

Purdue star WR Rondale Moore opts out of 2020 and into the 2021 NFL Draft conversation for the Browns

The 2020 college football season is currently in limbo as smaller conferences are starting to plan to reschedule their season for the spring and college stars are continuing to opt out. Among those studs that are deciding to pass on what is sure to be a controversial and historic season is Purdue Boilermaker stud wide receiver, Rondale Moore.

Moore is one of the most electric and dynamic players in college football and should be on everyone’s first-round radar. He caught 114 passes as a true freshman and his performance in the Boilermakers’ upset of Ohio State showed how dangerous he is against top-flight defenses. The saddest part about Moore sitting out the season is the fact that he was looking to bounce back after only seeing action in four games last season due to a hamstring injury.

Moore made a large enough impact with his impressive freshman season to warrant serious first-round conversation if he can test well and prove that he is 100%. I am unsure how high wide receiver will be on the Browns list of need’s but this is still a prospect worth monitoring.

Two more top players in the Big Ten opt out of the 2020 season

After Minnesota wide receiver and future first round pick Rashod Bateman opted out of the 2020 football season earlier this week, two…

After Minnesota wide receiver and future first round pick Rashod Bateman opted out of the 2020 football season earlier this week, two more of the conference’s top players joined him in deciding to sit out the season and prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft.

Those players are Penn State linebacker and future top-10 pick Micah Parsons and Purdue wide receiver and future first-rounder Rondale Moore.

The three followed Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley who was the first big name in college football to opt out and prepare for the draft.

Aside from how health risks impacted their decisions, all three players were key contributors to their teams and were three of the most impactful players in the conference.

Micah Parsons in 2019: 109 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, 5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles.

Rondale Moore in 2018 (he was injured most of the 2019 season): 114 receptions, 1258 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Rashod Bateman in 2019: 60 receptions, 1219 yards and 11 touchdowns.

They are now all ranked by TheDraftNetwork as the No. 3 prospect in the draft (Parsons), the No. 17 prospect (Moore) and the No. 27 prospect (Bateman).

The health risks of playing football this season obviously can’t be overlooked, but from a pure football perspective these players not being on the field will have far-reaching effects on the Big Ten season and who is crowned conference champion.

Oh, and these three probably will not be the last.

Purdue WR Rondale Moore opts out, will enter 2021 NFL Draft

Moore caught 114 passes from Lions QB David Blough as a true freshman in 2018

Purdue phenom wide receiver Rondale Moore has elected to opt out of playing in the 2020 season for the Boilermakers. Moore announced he is sitting out the uncertain college season and will instead prep for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Moore is a name that Detroit Lions fans will need to learn. With Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay, Danny Amendola and Marvin Hall — the team’s top four wideouts — all entering the final year of their respective contracts, the need for fresh and dynamic talent at WR is a huge one for Detroit.

Dynamic certainly described Moore’s freshman season at Purdue catching passes from Lions backup QB David Blough. At just 5-9 and 180 pounds (listed by Purdue), he lit the Big Ten on fire as a freshman in 2018. Moore caught 114 passes for over 1,200 yards and 12 TDs and also ran for over 200 yards and scored twice as a runner.

He only played in four games in 2019 due to a hamstring injury, though it’s worth noting he was the best player on the field in two of those (Vanderbilt and Nebraska).

Moore can play in the slot or outside and he’s lightning with the ball in his hands. His instant acceleration, great balance and shifty feet make him a nightmare to try and tackle.

Right now Moore generally projects as a top-20 overall talent. The Lions having his college QB on board in Blough can help them decide just how much they should value Moore.

Purdue, Miami stars opt-out of college football ’20

Greg Rousseau of Miami and Purdue’s Rondale Moore are skipping the 2020 college football season, getting ready for the NFL Draft.

Two more big names have opted-out of the 2020 college football season.

The day started with Penn State star linebacker Micah Parsons saying he was skipping the season.

Hours later, Miami DE Greg Rousseau said he plans to pass on the season and prepare for the NFL Draft.

Hed the ACC in sacks last season with 15.5 and is widely considered a first-round selection in the 2021 NFL draft. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. lists Rousseau as his No. 24 overall prospect and the top defensive end.

Then, one of the more exciting players in college football added to the exit list.

Purdue WR Rondale Moore said he is leaving Lafayette, IN, to prepare for a pro future.

Moore caught 114 passes for 1,258 yards and 12 touchdowns as a true freshman in 2018. He also rushed 21 times for 213 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the first true freshman consensus All-American in Big Ten history.

He missed most of the 2019 season after suffering a hamstring injury.

Purdue WR Rondale Moore opts out of 2020 college football season

One of college football’s most explosive playmakers is opting out of the 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic

Yet another top prospect is choosing not to play college football this season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore is opting out of the 2020 season, he announced via social media Thursday:

One of the most explosive playmakers in all of college football, Moore was a constant headache for opposing offenses, threatening to score on every touch. Despite his lack of ideal height, Moore is a tough runner with the ball in his hands, and his versatility made him one of the most dangerous players in the country.

Now, he joins top prospects like Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons, Miami pass rusher Gregory Rousseau and more who are choosing top preserve themselves for the next level rather than playing another season at the college level amid health and safety concerns.

Moore is widely considered a first-round prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft class.

2021 NFL mock draft connects Saints with Purdue sleeper WR

The Saints picked Purdue draft prospect Rondale Moore in a 2021 NFL mock draft, adding a weapon some see as a Heisman Trophy contender.

[jwplayer 5g384aQL-ThvAeFxT]

Drew Brees appears set to ride off into the sunset (and then the NBC Sports broadcasting booth) after the 2020 season, if he so chooses, but the possibility of connecting with a high-profile draft prospect from his alma mater might be enough to keep him around for one more year. Maybe.

A recent 2021 mock draft from Luke Easterling over at Draft Wire linked the Saints with Rondale Moore, a dynamic weapon suggested by Pro Football Focus analyst Anthony Treash as a possible Heisman Trophy contender in 2020. Treash wrote of the Purdue Boilermakers phenom:

After being named a first-team All-American and winning the Paul Hornung Award (most versatile player in college football) as a true freshman in 2018, Moore came back in 2019 and looked like he would have an even bigger year. Then he suffered an injury in Week 5 that knocked him out the rest of the season.

That hamstring issue aside, Moore has a ton of momentum building behind him. He caught more passes as a true freshman (114) than the three next-best players combined (108) while averaging over 10 yards per carry on 21 rushing attempts, accounting for 29% of the touchdowns the Boilermakers scored on offense back in 2018 — again, as a true freshman.

In fact, PFF graded his performance that year as one of the best seasons ever put together by a first-year player at the college level, going back to 2014. Only uber-talented LSU Tigers cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. has rated better in that era. So, yeah: the Saints could definitely use someone with Moore’s skills. But if he’s able to live up to the hype in 2020 after an injury-shortened 2019, he might not make it to their draft slot.

An interesting (and welcome) wrinkle to 2021 mock drafts is that the Saints own each of their picks in the first two rounds for the first time since 2017. They traded their third-round choice next year to move up in the 2020 draft, but expect to recoup it as a compensatory pick after Teddy Bridgewater signed with the cross-division rival Carolina Panthers.

For the folks keeping score at home, the Saints have made selections in each of the first three rounds just three times over the last decade (2017, 2015, and 2010). An influx of young talent, maybe in the wake of Brees’ retirement, would be nice to see. In Easterling’s mock draft, he connected the Saints with Clemson Tigers pass rusher Xavier Thomas — not a bad find in the second round.

2021 NFL Draft could give the Eagles the ultimate chance to retool the WR position

Philadelphia Eagles could find a star at WR during 2021 NFL Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles will have some salary cap issues to resolve over the next few seasons and the team will need to draft well in hopes of not wasting Carson Wentz’s prime years.

The key to the retool will be continuing to solidify the offensive line while surrounding Carson Wentz with big-time playmakers on the outside.

Howie Roseman started the process in April, selecting three receivers, and trading for another during the 2020 NFL Draft. First-round pick Jalen Reagor is expected to make an immediate impact, while late-round selections John Hightower and Quez Watkins should add speed to the roster.

Marquise Goodwin acquired in a trade with the 49ers, will try to stay healthy and will only be a one-year rental.

For Roseman and the Eagles, the 2021 draft will provide an efficient opportunity to properly move on from DeSean Jackson, who turns 34 in December. Alshon Jeffery is recovering from foot surgery and may not be ready for the start of the season, which will probably be his final in Philadelphia.

J.J. Arcega-Whiteside failed to meet expectations as a rookie and could be battling for his Eagles career this season.

The Eagles could and should be in the market for a wide receiver heading into next year’s draft and the 2021 selection process could be more historic than the 2020 class that saw six receivers go in the first round.

With the Eagles being focused on the future, cutting costs while getting younger and cheaper, here are 10 wide receivers Philadelphia could have interest in during the next years 2021 NFL Draft.

***

1. Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU (6-1, 200)

The best wide receiver in college football last season didn’t even enter the NFL Draft and he’ll return to Baton Rouge for one more impressive season.

Chase had a monster sophomore year, leading the LSU offense in receiving yards (1,780), receiving touchdowns (20) and yards per catch (21.2) and he’ll likely be gone before the Eagles pick.
