Roger McCreary is named an ESPN All-American

Roger McCreary is an All-American.

Roger McCreary was one of the best cornerbacks in college football in 2021.

ESPN confirmed it by giving McCreary All-American honors. The other corner was Cincinnati’s Ahmad Gardner.

ESPN said the following about the All-American cornerback.

McCreary committed to South Alabama in high school because he believed it was going to be the best scholarship offer he would get. Auburn’s coaches finally came around to offering him after his senior season, and he has developed into one of the best lockdown cornerbacks in the country. This season, he had 49 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions and 14 pass breakups. McShay ranks him as the No. 13 prospect overall and No. 2 cornerback, behind LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr.

He is currently projected as a first-round pick by most NFL draft experts.

Three Auburn football players listed on All-SEC teams

All three of Auburn’s All-SEC selections are defensive players.

Auburn put three players on the All-SEC teams.

Eleven SEC schools had at least two all-conference selections and 10 had three or more.

The 2021 list includes nine student-athletes who have now made multiple appearances on the All-SEC Team in their career: Treylon Burks (Arkansas), Jake Camarda (Georgia), Jordan Davis (Georgia), Jerrion Ealy (Ole Miss), Darian Kinnard (Kentucky), Bumper Pool (Arkansas), Isaiah Spiller (Texas A&M), Jalen Wydermeyer (Texas A&M) and Cade York (LSU).

The SEC individual award winners will be released Wednesday and the All-Freshman Team will be announced Thursday.

Here are the three Auburn selections for the 2021 All-SEC teams.

Roger McCreary gets drafted in the first round in latest NFL mock draft

An NFL team is going to be lucky to get Roger McCreary.

Roger McCreary had an incredible 2021 season for the Auburn Tigers.

It doesn’t matter if you want to score him based on the eye test, analytics, or stats, he was one of the best cornerbacks in college football this season.

His play earned him an invite to the Senior Bowl in Mobile as well as the chance to be a first-round pick for an NFL team in this year’s draft.

Matt Miller of The Draft Scout (paid subscription) release his “Third Quarter Mock Draft” that consisted of three full rounds of picks. He had McCreary getting picked by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here’s what he said about the selection.

The Kansas City Chiefs have operated under the idea that a good pass rush, an offense led by Patrick Mahomes, and athletes at cornerback can get the job done. And it’s hard to argue with that. But general manager Brett Veach has to look at ways to upgrade his defensive backfield. Roger McCreary has that athletic, thicker build that Veach likes in defensive backs and just so happens to be a dangerous cover man too.

McCreary was the only Auburn Tigers taken in the first three rounds in Miller’s mock draft.

Roger McCreary a first round pick in latest mock draft

Roger McCreary will make an NFL team very happy.

Auburn fans have known it for a while, but the NFL is catching on, Roger McCreary is a star and worthy of a first-round pick.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic released his first mock draft of the season on Tuesday and he has McCreary going to the Arizona Cardinals with the 32nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Here is what Brugler had to say about McCreary.

“McCreary has average size (6-0, 187) with sub-30 inch arms, but he is a quick-twitch athlete who can line up inside or outside and play sticky coverage. He has produced several impressive tapes this season (Penn State, Arkansas, Alabama) that could push him into the first round.”

McCreary has had an impressive season for Auburn, totaling 49 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, two interceptions (one pick-six), 16 defended passes, and one fumble recovery.

WATCH: John Metchie III walks it off for Alabama in 4th OT vs. Auburn

Watch Alabama escape Auburn on this two-point conversion from Bryce Young to John Metchie III

It wasn’t pretty, but No. 3 Alabama escaped the Jordan-Hare Stadium with a narrow Iron Bowl victory Saturday, needing a late touchdown drive and four overtimes to avoid the road upset against Auburn.

Crimson Tide wide receiver John Metchie III ran a perfect route on the two-point conversion that clinched the walk-off victory, beating Tigers cornerback Roger McCreary at the goal line for the game-winner.

Both Metchie and McCreary are expected to be early selections in the 2022 NFL draft, and while McCreary certainly had his impressive plays in this one, it was Metchie that made the game’s most important play in crunch time.

Tigers of the Game: Auburn falls to Alabama 24-22 in overtime

Man, these Tigers played their tail off.

Auburn nearly pulled off a stunning upset.

For the first time ever, the Iron Bowl needed overtime to determine a winner. Ultimately, Auburn was unable to pull off the upset, falling 24-22 to Alabama.

Auburn led 10-0 going into the fourth quarter but the defense ran out of gas and Alabama scored on a last-minute drive to force overtime. In the fourth overtime, Auburn failed their 2-point conversion and Alabama completed theirs for the victory.

Here are the Tigers of the Game from yet another classic showdown in this storied rivalry.

Roger McCreary accepted Senior Bowl invite

WELL DESERVED.

Roger McCreary will not have to travel far to participate in the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

The Auburn cornerback has been exceptional this season and has climbed his way into the first round of several NFL draft experts’ first-round mock drafts. He will have the opportunity to solidify that in Mobile in front of NFL scouts.

McCreary is a Mobile native and a former standout at Williamson High School.

The Senior Bowl announced McCreary’s invite acceptance news on their Twitter account Friday evening.

The Senior Bowl game will be on the NFL Network on February 5.

Roger McCreary goes to NFC team in latest NFL mock draft

What team do you want to see Roger McCreary play for next year?

Roger McCreary is becoming more of a consensus first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft as he puts more tape in front of NFL scouts.

The cornerback has shown that he is able to be used in different ways however an NFL coaching staff may need him.

Matt Miller of The Draft Scout put out an NFL mock draft to his subscribers and had McCreary going 24th overall to the Dallas Cowboys.

Here’s the analysis of the pick.

Analysis: The Cowboys have honestly hit nicely on a lot of their rebuilding efforts on both sides of the ball; and while we could look at offensive tackle (La’el Collins might be out in Dallas), getting a top-flight cornerback opposite Trevon Diggs could take Dan Quinn’s side of the ball over the top.

McCreary and the Auburn defensive backfield have their hands full this week as they prepare for Mississippi State’s air raid.

Roger McCreary goes top 15 in latest NFL mock draft

Whoa…

Auburn cornerback Roger McCreary has had an amazing year and NFL scouts are all about it.

Matt Miller of The Draft Scout released his mid-season mock draft and has McCreary as a mid-first-round pick. He has him being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the 12th overall pick.

Here was Miller’s reasoning.

It’s just a little early for the Falcons to go quarterback of the future unless they really love Desmond Ridder—and they could by late April. For now, we have the Falcons continuing to play the “best player available” game given that Matt Ryan is locked in for at least the 2022 season. Roger McCreary has legit shutdown qualities and is a value at No. 12 overall.

The Tigers have had a nice run of early defensive backs being taken early in the NFL draft but if McCreary were to go at 12, he would be the earliest Tiger defensive back drafted since Carlos Rogers was taken ninth overall in the 2005 NFL draft.

Is Auburn’s Roger McCreary the best shutdown CB in the SEC?

There are bigger names who get more attention, but Auburn’s Roger McCreary is proving he might just be the SEC’s best corner

You’d be forgiven for guessing LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr., or even Florida’s Kaiir Elam. But neither one of them lead the SEC in forced incompletions since 2019.

That title is currently held by Auburn’s Roger McCreary, who has made 23 passes fall to the ground over the past few years.

While Stingley is widely regarded as the top overall cornerback prospect in the 2022 NFL draft class, and Elam is considered a first-round lock, McCreary still isn’t getting the national attention he deserves as one of the top cover men in all of college football.

McCreary’s Tigers will face Matt Corral and the Mississippi offense this weekend, giving him yet another chance to prove himself among the nation’s best.
