Predicting the outcomes of 9 fun Super Bowl 57 prop bets that have nothing to do with the game

Let’s run through some novelty props

If we’ve learned anything from past Super Bowl Sundays, it’s that the game itself is usually just one aspect of what makes the annual February event such a pop culture magnet.

From the halftime show to the pre-game pageantry to the commercials, there is so much about this five-hour window that becomes ingrained in our minds forever. Just ask Left Shark or 50 Cent.

And while betting on the who will win between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII is fun enough on it’s own, it’s nothing compared to betting on everything outside the lines. Yes, that includes your office Squares pool, too.

So let’s run through the nine most fun prop bets that have absolutely nothing to do with the game and pick some winners.

Who is performing at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show?

Rihanna is performing at halftime of this year’s Super Bowl.

Nine-time Grammy Award winner Rihanna is set to bless the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show for the first time in her illustrious music career.

Months back, the wildly successful American pop singer/songwriter Taylor Swift was rumored to be this upcoming Super Bowl’s halftime performer. But Rihanna, who’d previously shot down the opportunity to perform during halftime of 2019’s Super Bowl (LIII), let the world know last September via Instagram that she’d be taking center stage at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Rihanna’s performance will follow the 2022 Super Bowl’s star-studded halftime show that featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and Anderson .Paak.

Rihanna defends Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes against ‘hater’ Brandon Marshall

The prank heard around Phoenix, Arizona, took place a few days ago as Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was on the receiving end of a hilarious one in front of the media. Mahomes was caught off guard by former NFL receiver Brandon Marshall telling him that Rihanna recently said he is “the greatest quarterback ever.

The 2022 NFL MVP was blushing with excitement from that news to eventually have it all come crashing down when Marshall revealed it was a prank. The clip was shared throughout the internet of Mahomes handling the embarrassment with laughter. But he’s now caught the attention of the superstar singer herself. Marshall made sure to get her reaction to the clip while getting the official word on Mahomes as a quarterback.

“So can you tell him something nice?” Marshall asked Rihanna in a video clip from the I Am Athlete Twitter account.

The iconic singer stared at Marshall immediately, saying, “That is so mean. He is mean. OK. I am so sorry you went through that; I still think you’re great.”

Marshall holding back laughter, responded, “See, there’s still nice people in the world.”

Rihanna quickly fired back at the former Pro Bowl receiver, “He’s a hater.”

Rihanna and Patrick Mahomes’ respect for each other is clear. The next move is for Mahomes to respond on the field this weekend. They both will be busy on Sunday, and a Chiefs victory could yield the final response from the two-time league MVP.

Rihanna’s impact stretches well beyond her Super Bowl LVII halftime show

Our @EdEastonJr spoke to Apple Music host @LowKeyUHTN on the influence and cultural impact of #SuperBowl halftime performer Rihanna.

The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for a battle against the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday in Arizona. The game is considered the main event of the evening, while there are many others eagerly anticipating the stage return of musical superstar Rihanna.

After years away from the music spotlight handling lucrative business ventures, and becoming a first-time mother, the Barbadian singer is the Super Bowl LVII halftime show performer. Whether it is music, fashion, or acting, she stands out in a unique way that cannot be limited, making her the ideal choice for Apple Music’s first halftime show as the new sponsor.

Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. recently sat down with music veteran, LowKey, co-host of Apple Music’s Rap Life Review, to get his thoughts on Rihanna’s return to the stage and cultural influence.

“For someone of her stature to touch that stage and still be an impact and influence, a polarizing figure, not just an R&B, but just music and a fashion icon,” he said. “That type of thing is, it’s beautiful to have her on that stage. And now we’re all wondering, like, is there a tour? Or is there an album? We’re all at the edge of our seats. And, you know, it helps that, Apple Music is that official sponsor, but what a way to introduce a partnership, what a way to introduce your return to music, what a way to introduce, maybe a tour, if it’s any platform, it’s either the Grammys or this. So, she’s doing it, right.”

In a landmark Super Bowl where for the first time in history, both starting quarterbacks are black (Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts), Rihanna fits the tone of influencing change as a powerful black woman in entertainment.

“She runs her own empire like this is what you aspire to be, as a young black woman coming up in the game,” said LowKey. “She’s been able to do it her own way, in her own timing, you know, within her own boundaries.”

The NFL began a partnership with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in 2019 following boycotts from many top artists in the wake of the Colin Kaepernick protest controversy. Rihanna was one of the artists that stayed away from the league during that time, making her appearance this year even more noteworthy.

“I think it helps that HOV (Jay-Z) is within that structure,” LowKey explained. “You know the phrase is, ‘Always better late than never.’ You saw what they did last year with the Super Bowl, you know, (Dr.) Dre, Snoop (Dogg), Kendrick (Lamar), and Mary (J. Blige). There’s a bigger conversation in regard to the NFL listening. The NFL paying attention. This is just outside of entertainment. This is a good step in getting our culture board more involved, even though we don’t need it. But you know, it helps. But I do think there’s a bigger conversation on how the NFL treats its players, treats their voices, what their experiences are, and what they go through. So I do believe that there’s a bigger conversation, but I’m glad to see a black woman during Black History Month on that stage.”

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has said in many interviews that he’s excited about Rihanna’s performance even though he won’t be able to watch it. He did note that many of his family members are arguably more excited about seeing her at halftime than him in the game.

You can listen to our full interview with LowKey on the latest episode of The Chiefs Wire Podcast.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes pranked with fake Rihanna quote by retired NFL receiver

Rihanna thinks Patrick Mahomes is the greatest QB ever!? Not quite. Former NFL WR Brandon Marshall pranked the #Chiefs QB. | from @EdEastonJr

The days are ticking down quickly to Super Bowl LVII as the Kansas City Chiefs seek their second title in four seasons. The tense and often stressful game on Sunday can have many players on edge before kick-off, even with the fun festivities in Arizona.

Rihanna being the halftime show headliner, managed to lighten the mood for Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes as he fell for a prank from former NFL receiver Brandon Marshall during Wednesday’s press conference. Among the media members, Marshall told Mahomes that Rihanna recently said he is, “the greatest quarterback ever.”

“You got me up here smiling,” said Mahomes, “It makes me feel great. She’s gonna crush it at halftime. I have family members that I think are more excited about the halftime show than they are (about) the game. And so whatever Rihanna says is like the gospel, so I’m glad that she went with me for that honor.”

Marshall waited for Mahomes to finish to bring him back to reality, saying, “She didn’t. She didn’t.” to laughter from the rest of the room.

“I can’t believe you got me with that,” Mahomes said, followed by more laughter.

Mahomes will be in a battle on Sunday against Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles, so it was good to see he’s a little loose before the big game. Rihanna may not have said those things about Mahomes, but his reaction when he believed she did will hopefully result in him earning those words in reality after Sunday’s game.

Here’s why Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes might change his pregame music routine

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes might be taking Meek Mill’s “Dreams and Nightmares” off the pregame playlist this week. | from @EdEastonJr

The weekly routine for quarterbacks before a game is essential to their preparation. The process of relaxing or, in some cases, exciting the mind before action is what many of the best practices consistently do to ensure the best results on the field.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes uses music as a catalyst to get him ready on game days. The league MVP candidate has many favorites that he listens to, but there could be one song from his playlist that doesn’t make the cut before Sunday. The hit song “Dreams and Nightmares” from Philadelphia native Meek Mill might be on the chopping block before the Super Bowl, according to Mahomes as he fielded media questions on Monday.

“I used to listen to dreams and nightmares. I don’t know if I can listen to that this week, so I might throw on…I don’t know what I’m throwing on this week. I’ll get back to you,” said Mahomes, “Because I’m about to find some new music. I’m a big Meek Mill fan, but I’m gonna have to throw that music down for at least this week at least.”

The Philadelphia Eagles will garner more appreciation for the song due to its hometown roots. Mahomes commented on being excited that music superstar Rihanna will return to the stage as the halftime show headliner.

“I mean, Rihanna is gonna be great, so I’m perfectly (fine) with Rihanna doing it,” said Mahomes. “I’m not gonna be able to watch it, but a lot of my family members are super excited for Rihanna to go out there, and I think they were more excited for that and then then the Superbowl for a couple of them, so it’ll be a great show.”

Music and sports continue to blend seamlessly, especially for massive events such as the Super Bowl. Chiefs fans hope the possible omission of a song won’t affect Mahomes’ rhythm on Sunday.

NFL fans delightfully covered Rihanna’s ‘Stay’ in celebration of Super Bowl halftime show

NFL fans singing Rihanna… what more could you ask for?

As people around the world prepare for Rihanna’s highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime show, a group of 32 NFL fans found a fantastic way to pay homage to the music superstar.

Fans from all 32 NFL teams joined in for a rendition of Rihanna and Mikky Ekko’s classic “Stay.”

If you had ever wanted to see various NFL fans decked out in their proudest gear singing a Rihanna song, then your dreams are about to come true.

You might not want to stay around too long if you’re not super into song covers from non-musicians, but Super Bowl week absolutely calls for silly videos like this.

Well, that was quite an experience! We’re sure that Rihanna will undoubtedly blow the top off of State Farm Stadium this weekend, but these NFL fans gave us plenty to tide us over until Sunday’s big performance.

Maybe if you work on your vocals and deck out in your best NFL gear, you can be featured in whatever version they come up with for next year’s Super Bowl.

Chiefs WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling has hilarious hopes to catch Rihanna during Super Bowl halftime show

Well, can you blame him?

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling might have alternative plans for halftime during Super Bowl 57.

While he’ll most likely be with his Kansas City teammates preparing for the second half, Valdes-Scantling shared on Twitter that he might see if he can catch some of the halftime show performance from Rihanna.

It’s undoubtedly one of the more relatable hopes that any NFL player would have if they made the Super Bowl, especially when the performer is someone as universally beloved as Rihanna.

Going to the Super Bowl is, of course, a dream for all NFL players, but it’s also a free ticket to catch one of the biggest musical performances of the year. You can’t blame a guy for seeing if he can make both work.

If you’ll recall, Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson stayed on the field last year to watch the Super Bowl halftime show. Will Valdes-Scantling follow his lead?

If the Chiefs are up 250-0 by halftime, we bet Andy Reid will let a couple of his guys stay out there to take in the music.

If not, we’re guessing a player as integral to the offense as Valdes-Scantling is will be around for the halftime adjustments. There’s always the replay!

Stephen A. Smith apologizes for saying Rihanna ‘ain’t Beyonce’

This didn’t go over well.

Stephen A. Smith knows he messed up.

While appearing on Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show to promote his new book, the ESPN personality was asked about Rihanna performing at the upcoming Super Bowl.

You could tell a take was coming as he fiddled with his tie. Then: “She’s a lot of things, she’s spectacular, actually … There’s one thing she’s not: She ain’t Beyonce.”

The crowd’s reaction said it all. And apparently, Rihanna fans weren’t happy — both in person and online — about him comparing the star to anyone, even a legend like Beyonce.

So Smith took to Twitter and apologized for what he said
