Trevor Lawrence calls out ‘#Analysts’ on social media

Trevor Lawrence told analysts to “keep their opinions” in a message that seems like a response to Richard Sherman’s criticisms.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence had a message for the haters Saturday afternoon.

Lawrence, 24, doesn’t tweet often, but it’s not the first time he’s called out the haters on social media. Back in May, he tweeted “the game ain’t played on paper” in response to an NFL Network segment that ranked him as one of the worst quarterbacks in the AFC.

While Lawrence didn’t say specifically who the “#Analysts” are that can keep their opinions, it seems like a response to former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman.

During the Amazon Prime broadcast of the Jaguars’ 31-24 win against the New Orleans Saints, Sherman said that Lawrence hasn’t shown himself to be the prospect that he was hyped up to be in 2021.

Sherman’s criticisms of Lawrence continued on social media as the game was being played Thursday night:

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick agreed with Sherman’s assessment during the broadcast.

Lawrence finished the game with 204 passing yards, a touchdown, and 59 rushing yards. Through seven games in 2023, he has eight touchdowns with three interceptions.

Richard Sherman blasted Mike Malone in weird rant to defend LeBron James’ honor

Richard Sherman’s criticism of Mike Malone doesn’t even make any sense.

Richard Sherman is building a lucrative television career.

He’s a regular analyst on Thursday Night Football and occasionally moonlights as a shock jock in appearances on Fox Sports 1’s debate show, Undisputed. Based on a new opinion about Mike Malone, the head coach of the reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets, it seems Sherman has the requisite skill of obnoxiously dispensing lazy, half-baked takes down pat.

On Wednesday, the Undisputed panel broke down portions of the 2023-2024 NBA season. One of the early marquee matchups comes on opening night when LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers visit the Nuggets on an evening where Denver will raise the franchise’s first-ever championship banner into its arena’s rafters. It’s a rematch of last season’s heated (but ultimately uncompetitive) Western Conference Finals, where the Nuggets swept the Lakers. It’s also a rekindling of a budding rivalry between Malone and James. Malone, of course, famously took exception to the excessive attention James and the Lakers received as the Nuggets swept them out of the playoffs.

In breaking down this matchup, Sherman defended James (who, of all people, doesn’t need the extra help) and said Malone will be an “irrelevant, erroneous name in the history books of the NBA.”

Hmm, I don’t know about that one!

Compared to James, yes, Malone’s resume is negligible.

But that would be the case for almost everyone in NBA history because James is one of the best athletes ever to hold a basketball. It’s a little absurd to compare the two with this framing. Never mind that Malone originally came at James and objected to the over-coverage of the Lakers in a competitor’s sense. Is he not allowed to stump for his team — the league’s best team right now — because James is an all-time great? Because that’s just something I can’t vibe with. What’s the point of following sports if opposing coaches or players can’t come for the King? Whether they miss or not is a different story. In this case, Malone has yet to miss in his shots at James. As the old saying goes: To the victor go the spoils.

Independently, to say Malone will be forgettable or otherwise irrelevant in NBA annals is silly. The man has over 400 wins as a head coach and just brought the Nuggets their first title in franchise history. As long as Denver has Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray in their respective primes, Malone may add at least another title banner to the Nuggets’ home arena. Coaches who win one title, let alone two, are remembered and treasured forever. Never mind when they’re the person who manifests that initial glorious breakthrough for an organization.

All this to say, Sherman’s critique and rant about Malone is wrong, baseless, and reeks of a guy just trying to stir up controversy over social media. I guess, in writing this article about it, mission accomplished!

Next time, though, Sherman should really let James fight his own battles. Unironically: Stick to football, sir.

Richard Sherman on why the Cowboys won’t hire Deion Sanders

Seahawks great Richard Sherman doesn’t see it happening.

The two biggest stories in football right now are the Dallas Cowboys – currently No. 1 in our Week 3 power rankings – and their former superstar DB Deion Sanders. These days Prime is the head coach at Colorado, where the Buffaloes have already exceeded their projected 2023 win total after putting together one of the most-talented teams in college football in one offseason.

Naturally, there’s been a lot of speculation about what might come next for Sanders. While Prime claims he doesn’t want to coach in the NFL, he might change his tune if a team were to offer him a more-money-than-God type of contract. There’s only one team that would do it – and while Mike McCarthy is doing very well right now running these Cowboys – it’s not hard to imagine them trying to hire Sanders in the coming years if Colorado continues to climb the ladder like this.

However, Seahawks great Richard Sherman doesn’t see it happening. In his most recent appearance on Undisputed, Sherman said that Sanders would overshadow team owner Jerry Jones too much. Watch.

Richard Sherman: 49ers best team in the NFL after Week 1

Richard Sherman never looked right wearing that red and gold 49ers uniform.

Richard Sherman never looked right wearing that red and gold 49ers uniform the few years he was there after leaving the Seahawks. Nevertheless, Sherman has remained a fan of San Francisco and his former teammates since he left – even as he’s since mended the fences with the Seahawks organization and is helping them out as a consultant.

Sherman is a very busy dude these days. He’s also running his regular podcast and putting in part-time work on Undisputed with Skip Bayless. In his most recent appearance, Sherman called his former 49ers the best team in the NFL. Watch.

Sherman makes a compelling case and we were tempted to put the Niners at the top of our Week 2 NFL power rankings. However, we weren’t quite ready to boot last year’s Super Bowl teams – the 2. Chiefs and the 1. Eagles from the top two spots.

If the Niners dominate the Rams this week the same way they did the Steelers (30-7) on Sunday, then we’ll be hard-pressed to put anybody else in that top spot – especially if quarterback Brock Purdy continues to play at a respectable level. In Week 1 against Pittsburgh he posted 220 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. That’s more than enough competence for such a loaded team to beat just about anybody in this league.

Another club that was compellingly dominant in Week 1 was the Cowboys, who destroyed the Giants on Sunday Night Football, 40-0. Next up are the now Aaron Rodgers-less Jets. Dallas should be able to take care of business there – and another shutout would also give them a strong case for the No. 1 spot. For now, we have the Niners at No. 3 and the Cowboys fourth.

Throw in a must-win game for the Seahawks and this is shaping up to be a very interesting Week 2. It begins tonight when Jalen Carter and the Eagles host Justin Jefferson and the Vikings.

Richard Sherman makes outlandish Christian Wood comparison

Former NFL star Richard Sherman thinks new Lakers big man Christian Wood is worthy of being compared to one of the team’s Hall of Famers.

Big man Christian Wood is now a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, and although it is a gamble, it could pay off big if he accepts his new role.

Over the last few years, Wood had been a featured player, first with the Houston Rockets and then with the Dallas Mavericks last season. He averaged 18.1 points and 8.9 rebounds a game while shooting 50.9% from the field and 38.1% from 3-point range during that span, which are certainly excellent numbers.

But former NFL star cornerback and current “Undisputed” commentator Richard Sherman, who is a long-time Lakers fan, went overboard when he compared Wood to a former Hall of Fame Lakers big man (h/t The Cold Wire).

“Pau Gasol, a Lakers great, jersey just went in the rafters — during his Lakers career averaged 18 (points) and nine (rebounds), or 18 and 10. This boy coming in is averaging 18 and nine over the last three years — 38 percent shooting from three — I feel like he’s going to be a great asset. I don’t understand why we got him for this price.”

The price the Lakers signed Wood for is reportedly $5.7 million over two years, which seems like an incredible bargain for such a potent offensive player. However, he has a reputation for being an abysmal defender and for an attitude of self-entitlement, which is why he was available for the NBA equivalent of crumpled-up $1 bills found under one’s couch cushions.

Wood is a very good NBA player, at least offensively. But he is certainly no Gasol, who had 1,001 ways to score, especially in the post, and had numerous big games in the playoffs to help L.A. win back-to-back world championships in 2009 and 2010.

Richard Sherman says Bill Belichick deserves more criticism

Overall history aside, if we’re looking at what Belichick and the Patriots have accomplished as of late, it’s not exactly stellar.

Bill Belichick is widely considered to be the greatest coach in NFL history. His 298 wins are third most all time, and is only 31 away from surpassing the legendary Don Shula for the top spot. Surely a coach with 19 trips to the playoffs, 17 division titles, nine AFC Championships and six Super Bowls is beyond criticism…

…or is he? If you ask former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, Belichick should probably be catching a little more heat than he does.

Sherman is a co-host on FS1’s Undisputed, and on Friday’s show, he decided to shine some light on Belichick’s recent history. Overall legacy aside, if we’re looking at what Belichick and the Patriots have accomplished as of late, it’s not exactly stellar.

Sherman is right. In the three years since Tom Brady took his talents to Tampa Bay, the Patriots have gone a perfectly mediocre 25-25 in his absence. The first year they were 7-9, and in 2022 they were 8-9.

The lone winning season, 2021, New England went 10-7 but were obliterated 47-17 by the Buffalo Bills. The Patriots allowed every single Buffalo drive (aside from the end of the game) to result in a touchdown. New England, led by their coach known for his legendary defensive prowess, never once forced a turnover from Josh Allen of all quarterbacks, forced a punt, or at the very least held the Bills to a field goal.

Sherman also raises an outstanding point with the debacle the Patriots had at offensive coordinator last season, having Matt Patricia and Joe Judge split responsibilities. Not only were both men colossal failures as head coaches, neither were offensive coordinators before! Patricia was a defensive coach and Judge was special teams/wide receivers. Belichick’s insistence on not making a switch before the end of the year was quite the head scratcher to say the very least.

Ultimately, I can give you six, diamond-encrusted reasons why Belichick is shielded from criticism other coaches would get – and he needs two hands to wear them. However, the NFL is a “what have you done for me lately?” type of league. Six rings buys you more than plenty of slack, but it’s not infinite. Eventually, the leash gets taut.

Richard Sherman proposes Anthony Davis-Giannis Antetokounmpo swap

Former NFL star Richard Sherman thinks the Lakers should get rid of Anthony Davis in order to land Giannis Antetokounmpo.

After a recent New York Times article in which Giannis Antetokounmpo suggested he might leave the Milwaukee Bucks within the next few years, people around the NBA are speculating about which team he may end up with.

Of course, the Los Angeles Lakers are one of those teams. Antetokounmpo can opt out of his contract in 2025, which is the same year LeBron James’ current deal will run out.

But if Antetokounmpo gives the Bucks a clear indication he will leave, would they consider trading him before he hits free agency?

Former NFL star cornerback Richard Sherman, who is a co-host of Fox Sports 1’s “Undisputed,” said the Lakers should trade Anthony Davis for the Greek Freak (h/t Lakers Daily).

“What do the Lakers have that they can move?” Sherman said. “Anthony Davis just signed a contract. Their numbers probably match up just right, and it’s the kind of thing Rob Pelinka would do. You can’t do it till December because he just signed an extension, but is that something that could happen? Giannis and LeBron James? There’s potential there.”

Obviously, the chances of such a trade happening are slim to none.

The Lakers just gave Davis a big, long-term contract extension, and they obviously plan on having him in the fold for at least the next few years.

In addition, there is no reason for them to give up a superstar like Davis for Antetokounmpo when they could simply sign the latter as a free agent in a couple of years. Doing so could ensure a seamless transition after James leaves.

Teaming up Antetokounmpo and James could be problematic, as the two’s skill sets are very redundant and may not mesh that well.

Richard Sherman throws first pitch at Mariners game, surprised by Ken Griffey Jr.

Football is around the corner, but the Mariners are making the case for fans to stay invested in baseball season.

Football may be around the corner, but the Seahawks’ neighbors directly to the south – the Mariners – are making quite the case for fans to stay invested in baseball season.

The Mariners have been on an absolute tear lately, and were returning home after a successful 8-2 road trip to a raucous crowd at T-Mobile Park. There to greet them was former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, but he was not the only Seattle legend during the pregame festivities.

After being behind 10 games, the Mariners now own a share of first place in the AL West. It is the latest in the season the Mariners have been in this position since August of 2003. They have won 18 of their last 21, including Friday night’s game 7-5 against the Kansas City Royals.
