Saints starter reacts to Davante Adams trade rumors

Tyrann Mathieu reacted to the latest Davante Adams trade rumors during a live interview: ‘Nobody’s going to turn that down’

Could the New Orleans Saints trade for Davante Adams? The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver has made it known he wants to reunite with one of his old quarterbacks — either Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets, or Derek Carr with the Saints. And that’s very intriguing. Tyrann Mathieu discussed the latest Adams trade rumors during a recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show.”

While it’s not a topic Mathieu has discussed with Carr, it is something he’s seen going around on social media. He understands why Adams would want to catch passes from Carr again.

“And Davante’s a hell of a player, man,” Mathieu said. “Don’t get me wrong, I like the guys that we have, but like I said, Davante’s one of those guys. Nobody’s going to turn that down.”

Adams has a long-running relationship with Carr, and he made his sixth Pro Bowl the year the Raiders traded for him to get the pair back together. He’d bring a physicality and veteran presence the Saints haven’t really had at wide receiver since injuries piled up for Michael Thomas a couple of years ago.

Mathieu continued: “He’s a special player. Like the last ten years he’s been a top three, four receiver year in and year out. He’s highly competitive. I’ve had the chance to  really play against him a couple of times. He’s one of the best guys doing it, from just route running, and just his headiness. We talk about (Travis) Kelce being savvy, Davante has a lot of that in his game, too. And wherever he ends up he’s going to make that team better, too.”

Will the Saints be able to cut a deal? It won’t be easy, and ultimately it isn’t up to Adams. The Raiders will be able to take the best offer. Maybe it comes from New York. Maybe it comes from New Orleans. If Adams does end up with the Saints, it sure sounds like Mathieu would be one of the first in line to greet him.

Why Dan Quinn has yet to name Jayden Daniels the Commanders QB1

What are the Commanders waiting for?

“Caleb (Williams) is the starter; Jayden Daniels is likely the starter but not yet.”

That’s how Albert Breer was attempting to explain things to Rich Eisen, Tuesday on the “Rich Eisen Show.”

Eisen: “Why? What’s going on there? I don’t understand. Why aren’t the Commanders just treating him like Caleb? What’s with the fig leaf here on the altar of ‘we compete’?”

Breer: “If there is one word that always describes Peter Carroll’s program, it is always ‘compete.’ I know people see these as artificial sometimes, but it is hard for a new coach to come in and sell that to a guy who has been in the league for five years. And then he sees a rookie quarterback being handed a job.”

Eisen: “Come on, I mean, it is not just any rookie quarterback here. It’s the second overall pick.”

Breer: “What it comes down to, though, for DQ is he wants the veterans to see it. We need the veterans to see that he won the job. Once it becomes obvious, which I think it will, because he had a good spring.”

Breer: “The Chicago situation is fascinating. They started installing before they drafted him. You are allowed three one-hour zoom calls? They were installing the offense with them.”

In the corporate world there are different leadership styles with their corresponding advantages and disadvantages. Whether a leader’s style is to delegate, transformational, or autocratic, a key component will be the leader’s desire and ability to communicate the vision and be consistent on a day-to-day basis.

So, too, Dan Quinn has shown himself to be one who wants to see everyone competing and who himself just this week said that not only do the players have something to prove, but their coach does as well.

Consequently, Jayden Daniels needs to prove to the veterans he is ready to be the leader at the quarterback position. As soon as Quinn is confident Daniels has displayed enough to his teammates, he will officially be named the starter.

Lions GM Brad Holmes joins The Rich Eisen Show to talk 2024 expectations, Jahmyr Gibbs and more

Lions GM Brad Holmes has high expectations for Jahmyr Gibbs in 2024 which Holme shared on the Rich Eisen Show

It’s been a busy off-season for Detroit Lions General Manager Brad Holmes. He was active in free agency by adding players such as Marcus Davenport, Amik Robertson, Carlton Davis and others.

In addition to that, Holmes had the 2024 NFL Draft and contract extensions signed by Amon-Ra St. Brown, Penei Sewell and Jared Goff. Holmes joined Rich Eisen on his show to discuss these contract extensions, the expectations of the 2024 season and more.

When asked about Jahmyr Gibbs, it felt and looked like Holmes got excited talking about his skill-set and the value he provides the Lions offense. In the clip above, Holmes said, “…I would defintely expect to him (Gibbs) see more of a load. But you know, David Montgomery will still be here too. We love, Dan and I, love that 1-2 punch of he and David.” Then Holmes went into detail about Gibbs playing too fast and having to slow the game down.

He said, “speaking of him (Gibbs) specifically, him being a rookie last year, he had some pops in that KC game, in that opener, I was watching and I was like, ya know, he’s still trying to get the feel of the game. He was playing very fast and had to slow down a little bit. He openly admitted that he had to slow down a little bit and that he was going too fast. Once he got that sweet spot, it was right about there, you kinda saw it a little bit in that Ravens, which unfortunately we didn’t show up very well for that game. But that’s when we saw those glimpses in that game and then obviously that Raiders game. I would say was that breakout and okay, the game is slowing down for him.”

Lincon Riley goes on The Rich Eisen Show to discuss Caleb Williams’ NFL mentality

USC didn’t have a great 2023 season. Is Caleb Williams still the real deal? Lincoln Riley thinks so.

It was “Media Monday” for USC head coach Lincoln Riley. The leader of the Trojan football program performed a series of conversations with high-profile sports talkers. Riley went on The Jim Rome Show and The Pat McAfee Show. He also went on The Rich Eisen Show as well. One of the highlights of his Rich Eisen appearance was an exploration of Caleb Williams’ NFL mentality.

If you followed the 2023 USC football season closely, you know that the pieces of the puzzle didn’t generally fit for Caleb Williams, especially not in the latter half of the season in which the Trojans lost five of their last six games. Most of the problems for USC were on defense, but the offense had its share of struggles. Caleb Williams threw three interceptions at Notre Dame in an ugly loss, but a lot of the problem for Caleb was that USC’s offensive line took a significant step back from 2022. Another problem was that USC’s receivers didn’t get open in 2023 the way they did in 2022 with Jordan Addison destroying opposing secondaries.

People want to know if Caleb Williams is the real deal. Lincoln Riley is convinced he is. The NFL draft occurs in two and a half months. Everyone is waiting to see if the Chicago Bears take Caleb as the top pick in the draft or trade him to another team.

Rich Eisen ‘can’t believe’ Damar Hamlin’s game vs. Colts

Rich Eisen Show ‘can’t believe’ #Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s game vs. #Colts:

Rich Eisen made sure to acknowledge Damar Hamlin’s return to the Bills against the Colts in a special manner this week.

On his show, Eisen named his top five moments of the first week of the preseason, and he wanted to take a segment to discuss Hamlin specifically. Report: Bills want DeAndre Hopkins but ‘are not going to pay’

Report: #Bills want DeAndre Hopkins but ‘are not going to pay’:

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

The Buffalo Bills-DeAndre Hopkins buzz has gone quiet over the past few weeks.

Reports have surfaced that Hopkins is taking his time with making a decision. But since Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane said he would never rule out signing Hopkins in early June, there’s been nothing. At least as far as the Bills are concerned.

Hopkins still hasn’t joined a team, but he has taken free agent visits, reportedly with the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots.

There haven’t been any reports of Hopkins visiting with the Bills, and now we might have a reason why. According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, the Bills want Hopkins but “are not going to pay” for him.

Top dollar is what Darlington is getting at. It appears the Bills are hoping the pursuit of a Super Bowl title is enough incentive for Hopkins to sign in western New York, but as of now, it’s not.

There’s still plenty of time in the offseason for Hopkins or the Bills to change their mind. Training camp does not start until the end of July, but time is ticking.

The latest report on Hopkins can be found via the clip below from “The Rich Eisen Show”:

WATCH: Rich Eisen questions why Bills, Stefon Diggs still have grudge

The Rich Eisen Show questions why the #Bills and Stefon Diggs still had a grudge.

Rich Eisen still has plenty of questions about the Bills and the team’s relationship with Stefon Diggs.

The wide receiver sat out a minicamp practice last month, and a day later, it was declared that things were back to normal. All fine.

Eisen was skeptical. Can it all really be OK now? And if so, why did it take so long? The season ended months ago, after all.
