Social media shares hilarious reactions to Nick Saban boogie boarding

Nick Saban wipes out on the beach while boogie boarding, and social media absolutely loves it.

Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban has been off the job for a few weeks now, and he’s apparently been enjoying the beach with Miss Terry, according to his daughter, Kristen Saban Setas.

While interacting with Crimson Tide fans, Saban Setas shared a video from a few years ago that showed the legendary head coach wiping out on the shore of a beach while attempting to boogie board in the waves.

The video may not be recent, but it is exactly how many Alabama fans hope he is spending his retirement.

Reactions on social media were almost as priceless as the video itself. Here are some of the best posts.

OPINION: Alabama has a clear choice when it comes to hiring a new head coach

Breaking down what has happened in the recent hours of Alabama’s search for a head coach.

Replacing Nick Saban is an impossible task, it was always going to be. What he did on the football field will never be replicated. Six national titles, nine SEC Championships and four Heisman Trophy winners are just the beginning of an unfathomable list of achievements and accolades. There was never going to be an easy time for Saban to step away, but maybe it wasn’t the worst after an SEC title and Rose Bowl berth.

From Saban’s perspective, 14-hour long days are difficult for anyone, especially a 72-year-old. Especially in the era of the NIL, transfer portal, and social media, he has been remarkable in adapting as well as he has over time. However, I believe he still has a very bright future in media and think it’s more likely than not that he will end up on a show like ESPN’s College GameDay.

Stepping away now hurts, but if he left after the 2024 season, he would be departing at the same time as Milroe and other key contributors, which would leave a lot of issues for his successor. As of right now, whoever the next coach is has a chance to step in and take over the reins of a national title-caliber team. The next coach has a lot of recruiting to do to keep the current roster together, but Saban at an advisor-level role helps monumentally.

As for who the coach will be, I think Greg Byrne has his guy. Byrne loves and owes Saban the world, but he knew life would go on after Saban. Byrne has made some outstanding hires such as Nate Oats, so I would be appalled if he dropped the ball on the biggest coaching vacancy in the sport in 17 years. Who he hires after Saban is how Byrne’s legacy will always be judged, and I think this is an opportunity for him to flex his muscles.

Wednesday night, all the smoke indicated that Oregon’s Dan Lanning was the top target, but FOX Sports Joel Klatt has said since the jump that the pick is Washington’s DeBoer, even going as far as to say, “I would be pretty surprised if Deboer isn’t the next head coach at Alabama.” Klatt is as well connected to the people in the conference formerly known PAC-12 as anyone and is usually a very level-headed guy in a sport about hot takes.

In the last month, DeBoer hired a new agent, Jimmy Sexton. Sexton is the SEC mega-agent who represents guys like Steve Sarkisian, Lane Kiffin, Mike Norvell, and plenty of other big-time names.

Today, Norvell had a new deal announced and Sark is reportedly close to one which tells me that Sexton is just leveraging his guys into new deals for now. Norvell, Lanning, and Sarkisian have all publicly posted videos to X to stay at their current school, but it’s been crickets from DeBoer in Seattle. It was so quiet that DeBoer called out on his morning appearance with the 93.3 KJR radio station in Seattle.

DeBoer is from South Dakota and has no true allegiances anywhere when it comes to coaching, so it’s pretty hard to turn down the best coaching job in the sport in Alabama. He is 104-12 as a head coach and coming off of back-to-back PAC-12 Coach of the Year awards. He went 67-3 at Sioux Falls with three NAIA national championships. Since taking over for Washington he is 25-3, and 3-0 against Lanning and 2-0 against Sarkisian. He led his team to the College Football Playoffs and got all the way to the national championship, but fell short.

Until something tells me otherwise, all signs seem to point to DeBoer. Everywhere DeBoer has been, he has won, it would be interesting to see what he could do with Alabama’s resources. It also opens the question if he would bring offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, an Alabama target last summer, along with him.

I get that trying to replace Saban is a daunting task, but these college football coaches aren’t going to shy away from a challenge.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce: ‘I have no reason to stop playing football’

#Chiefs TE Travis Kelce dismissed rumors that he might elect to retire after the 2023 season during comments to reporters this week.

The 2023 regular season for Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce started with uncertainty due to a knee injury that held him out of the team’s first game. Still, he put together a Pro Bowl-worthy campaign and fell only 16 yards short of another 1,000-yard season after sitting out the season finale to rest ahead of the postseason game.

Kelce fielded questions from reporters on Thursday after practice ahead of the Wild Card game on Saturday. He addressed the ongoing question regarding his future in football following the playoffs.

“I have no reason to stop playing football, man. I love it,” Kelce said. “We still have success. Come in with the right mindset. And I just love the challenge that it gives me every single day to try and be at my best. Like I said, I have no desire to stop anytime soon.”

The rumors of Kelce considering retirement have floated throughout the season and re-emerged on Thursday following the coaching departures of Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, and Nick Saban.

“That’s the point of the offseason, being able to get out there and really find what you love to do,” Kelce explained. “I’ve been fortunate to do a few things outside of the sports world that I’ve been enjoying doing, like getting on camera. The SNL stuff kind of opened up a new happiness and a new, maybe a new, career path for me. But it’s funny for me even to say that at this point in my career because I think it’s so much further down the road than it is right now.”

Kelce is still among the best offensive players in the league, regardless of age. He has found a way to avoid distractions while pursuing other interests off the field.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid says he is not considering retirement

Kansas City #Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters during a press conference that he is not considering retirement.

The last few days have been filled with discussions surrounding veteran head coaches in football at both the professional and collegiate levels. The Kansas City Chiefs have heard the commotion over the last few seasons regarding their head coach, Andy Reid, possibly calling it quits soon as well.

Reid spoke to the media on Thursday about the recent moves from the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks to move on from longtime coaches Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick.

“Those are two great coaches. I mentioned after our game, Bill’s the best I’ve ever gone against,” Reid said. “I don’t know if they’re done coaching or not. They’re done at their particular spots but great coaches, phenomenal coaches.”

Alabama’s Nick Saban is reportedly expected to announce his retirement, leading Reid to address his status again at the podium.

“I haven’t even thought about that,” Reid continued. “I figured that would come up as you were asking me these questions (Belichick, Saban, and Carroll) because I’m old, but I’m not that old.”

The 65-year-old Reid is currently the oldest employed head coach in the league. He may not have the title for long since there hasn’t been an official retirement from Belichick, who could be actively courted for his next job.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning will NOT be coming to Alabama

Dan Lanning denies rumors of being Alabama’s next head coach

Yesterday was one of the hardest days in the history of the University of Alabama. It’s impossible to say goodbye and thank you who haas done so much for one school and one program. Unfortunately, life most go on and the head coaching search in Tuscaloosa is in full swing.

Rumors were spreading like wildfire last night that Oregon head coach Dan Lanning was in Tuscaloosa meaning with the Alabama brass for the position. He was Alabama’s top target and a lot of people seemed quite confident he was the man.

However, just moments ago Lanning released a video stating that he will not be leaving Oregon. I trust Greg Byrne knows what he is doing, but with the top candidate off the table it will be interesting to see who gets the call next. My guess is Lane Kiffin and Kaleb DeBoer are the hottest names on the board.

There is no official word that Lanning was ever offered the job.

Local Oregon CBS News reporting that Dan Lanning is in Tuscaloosa amidst Alabama’s head coaching search

CBS Sports reports that big-time CFB coach is in Tuscaloosa interviewing for the Alabama job

The day that we have all dreaded has finally arrived. Alabama head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] announced his shocking decision to retire from the sport.

Saban retires as the greatest college football coach of all time and ends on a high note that included an Iron Bowl victory, SEC championship and Rose Bowl (college playoff) appearance.

The natural reaction is to be in disbelief and mourn. However, even Alabama football must go on without coach Saban, so the prevailing question is who is next? The leading candidates out of the gate are Oregon’s Dan Lanning, Ole Miss’s Lane Kiffin and Washington’s Kaleb DeBoer.

CBS affiliate KVAL, in Eugene, Oregon, is reporting Lanning is in Tuscaloosa and might be the man for the job.

If Lanning is the guy that Alabama chooses, know that he was hand-picked by Nick Saban and fully vetted. Lanning is only 37 years old and arguably one of the best coaches in the country alongside Steve Sarkisian, Kirby Smart and DeBoer.

There is no next Nick Saban or replacing him, but Lanning would be dang near as good as it could get. Whether the report is accurate or not, one thing is certain: Life in Tuscaloosa is going to be crazy for the next month.

Nick Saban’s official statement on retirement from coaching

Former Alabama football head coach Nick Saban releases official statement on his retirement.

Alabama will soon have a new head coach; Nick Saban announced his retirement on Wednesday. Fans and media members are still reacting to the shocking news, but the legendary head coach seems content with his decision.

Saban shared an official statement on his retirement through a press release issued by the University of Alabama.

“The University of Alabama has been a very special place to Terry and me,” Saban said. “We have enjoyed every minute of our 17 years being the head coach at Alabama as well as becoming a part of the Tuscaloosa community. It is not just about how many games we won and lost, but it’s about the legacy and how we went about it. We always tried to do it the right way. The goal was always to help players create more value for their future, be the best player they could be and be more successful in life because they were part of the program. Hopefully, we have done that, and we will always consider Alabama our home.”

His statement aligns perfectly with what his goals were at Alabama: Create a lasting legacy for all of his players as people, not just athletes. He was not just an amazing coach for the Crimson Tide, but he also was a great leader and philanthropist in the Tuscaloosa community.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the news of Saban’s retirement, as well as the Crimson Tide’s search for a new head coach.

Ryan Ramczyk weighing options with career-threatening injury

Ryan Ramczyk is managing a career-threatening knee injury. All options are on the table, including offseason surgery and an early retirement:

Ryan Ramczyk’s injured knee isn’t getting better. The New Orleans Saints right tackle spoke with reporters on Thursday and shared some insight on the uncertainty he’s facing after missing the last two games (and likely a third this week). All options are on the table. That includes offseason surgery and, worryingly, an early retirement.

The 29-year-old has been managing cartilage loss in his knee for years. He wasn’t able to play in seven games during the 2021 season because of it and was only able to suit up last season after receiving regular injections. This year he’s been given a rest day to start each week’s practice. But time and wear and tear have taken its toll. It’s a really tough break for a player who was so durable to start his career, having missed just one start in his first four years (when he and the rest of the starters were pulled from the meaningless 2018 season finale) before signing a landmark contract extension.

For now Ramczyk is trying to remain patient and follow doctor’s orders. He isn’t expected to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday and is considered week-to-week while resting and receiving treatment, so he at least has a shot at dressing out for the regular-season finale with the Atlanta Falcons.

But the future is unclear. Ramczyk’s career could be over. There’s a possibility he’ll have lifelong knee issues because of this injury. If so, that’s something he’s already accepted, telling ESPN’s Katherine Terrell that “it’s what we sign up for. It’s part of the game, the passion we have to put ourselves through this. It’s worth it.”

What happens if Ramczyk is forced into retirement? Right now, he’s got a salary cap hit counting for north of $27 million in 2024. If the Saints release him outright they would take on more than $32 million in dead money. Their most realistic path forward would be treating his retirement just like they did Drew Brees’ and Malcolm Jenkins’: reducing Ramczyk’s $17 million base salary to the veteran minimum (in his case, $1.21 million) and processing his release as a post-June 1 cut, spreading out the remaining payments from his signing bonus over the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

That would ultimately result in about $16.3 million in dead money for each of those years, saving $15.79 million against the cap in 2024. But it’s by no means a simple solution. The Saints would have to carry Ramczyk’s $32 million dead-money figure against the salary cap through the offseason up until June 2, limiting the moves they could make in free agency ahead of the draft.

Another possibility: asking Ramczyk to return some of his signing bonus. It’s a dirty move for someone who’s already experiencing something as difficult as the premature end of his playing career, but the NFL can be a cold business. There’s precedent for it with players like former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Chris Borland returning most of his signing bonus after a series of concussions, but some teams have taken players to arbitration over it. An arbitrator ruled that former Detroit Lions superstar Barry Sanders had to do just that, and another ex-Lions great, Calvin Johnson, publicly feuded with the team over a similar situation. None of those cases dealt with as much money as what sits between the Saints and Ramczyk. At the same time, an arbitrator may not rule in the team’s favor, making it a fruitless endeavor.

It’s unfortunate that this is what things have come to. Hopefully Ramczyk and the doctors he’s meeting with in the spring can find a way to better manage his knee and help him continue to play at a high level. But there’s a deadline. Ramczyk’s base salary includes $6.5 million that will become guaranteed on March 15 (the third day of free agency), and the Saints must reach salary cap compliance sooner than that, by March 13 (the start of the new league year). This won’t be a decision anyone involved can put off until the eleventh hour.

Ex-Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater retiring after 2023 season

Teddy Bridgewater, who went 7-7 as a starter with the Broncos in 2021, plans to retire from the NFL after the 2023 season.

Former Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater plans to retire after the 2023 NFL season, he told the Detroit Free Press in a recent interview.

Bridgewater, 31, played for the Denver Broncos in 2021, going 7-7 as a starter. He was the team’s first quarterback since Trevor Siemian in 2017 to start the majority of a season and win at least half of his games.

Bridgewater completed 66.9% of his passes for 3,052 yards with 18 touchdowns against seven interceptions in 2021. Denver shut him down in December after he suffered two concussions in a three-month span.

Bridgwater left the team in free agency the following spring, signing with the Miami Dolphins as a backup. He had a classy farewell after leaving the Broncos, stating that he wished the team “nothing but the best.”

After spending the 2022 season in Miami, Bridgewater signed with the Detroit Lions in August. After serving as Jared Goff’s backup this season, Bridgewater plans to become a high school football coach in retirement.

Bridgewater spent 10 years in the NFL and went 33-32 as a starter.
