OU-Texas looking at a 25 percent capacity for Cotton Bowl, per report

The Austin American-Statesman’s Brian Davis reports that the 25 percent will carry over to OU-Texas, giving each school a 12.5% allotment.

Last week, OU finally broke the silence and announced via press release that they are projecting 25 percent capacity for home football games next season.

The Austin American-Statesman’s Brian Davis reports that the 25 percent rule will carry over to OU-Texas, giving each school a 12.5 percent allotment.

Based on the Cotton Bowl’s capacity of 92,100, each school can expect to receive around 11,500 tickets in 2020.

The crowd won’t be the only thing taking a less pronounced role at the 2020 edition of the Red River Showdown.

On July 7, the State Fair of Texas was canceled for the first time since World War II. Even in the fair’s absence, OU and Texas remain locked into the Cotton Bowl based on their contracts.

On Aug. 12, CBS Austin’s Bob Ballou reported that Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs still plans to open a stand outside the game.

The same day, Davis reported that the fair is looking into a mini-Midway for fans in attendance. The game is currently slated for Oct. 10.

Potential mini-Midway, Fletcher’s Corny Dogs at OU-Texas in Oct.

Even with the State Fair of Texas canceled, Fletcher’s Corny Dogs will still be available to fans attending OU-Texas

Even with the State Fair of Texas canceled for the first time since World War II, another fan-favorite tradition will be sticking around for OU and Texas’ 2020 matchup at the Cotton Bowl.

Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs, the corn-dog stand that has become inseparably synonymous with the fair, will make an appearance at this year’s Red River Showdown, CBS Austin’s Bob Ballou reports.

The Austin American Statesman’s Brian Davis also reports that the fair is looking into setting up a mini-Midway for the fans in attendance.

Fletcher’s, who claims to have invented the corn dog in 1938, took quite the financial hit with the fair’s cancellation. Their website states that the stand annually sells over 500,000 corn dogs throughout the course of the fair.

Their sales won’t hit nearly that number this year, but it’s a heartwarming gesture to ensure that the fans who attend the game won’t do so without their favorite fried treat.

Fletcher’s Corny Dogs has been a staple of the State Fair of Texas since 1942.

Oklahoma, Texas still hopeful Red River Showdown can happen at Cotton Bowl

The State Fair of Texas will not take place this fall, but athletic directors remain hopeful that the Red River Showdown will stay put.

For only the eighth time in its 134-year history, the State Fair of Texas will not take place this fall, it announced Tuesday.

The fair has traditionally played host to the Red River Showdown at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.

But even in the fair’s absence, athletic directors from both sides remain hopeful that the 2020 Red River Showdown will stay put at the Cotton Bowl.

“We understand and respect the decision made by the State Fair of Texas and acknowledge that it was an extremely difficult one,” said OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione in a statement. “Our hope remains that we can play the OU-Texas game at the Cotton Bowl, but obviously every aspect of our season requires constant monitoring and planning.”

“Though we certainly respect and understand the decision of the folks in Dallas on their cancellation of this year’s State Fair of Texas, we fully anticipate that our annual Red River Showdown with Oklahoma will be played in the Cotton Bowl and are continuing to prepare for that,” said Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte.
