Analyzing the impact of recent commits and who could be next

Roll Tide Wire breaks down the impact of Alabama’s recent commits and which prospects could be next to commit to the Crimson Tide.

Alabama has had success on the recruiting trail when it comes to the 2024 recruiting class. There are currently 18 prospects committed to the Crimson Tide. Of those 18, 12 of the commits made verbal pledges to Alabama during the summer. That is a testament to how well the coaching staff has done in terms of developing relationships and getting key targets to campus.

Alabama is far from finished when it comes to the 2024 class. The Crimson Tide are in on multiple prospects and have been on a tear as of late. Thus far, the coaching staff has been able to flip the commitments of three prospects. There could be more to come in the near future.

States with the most Top247 recruits in the class of 2024!

With college football prospects taking most of their official visits in the month of June, July has become the unofficial, official commitment month for some of the nation’s most highly-sought after prospects.

One of the most trusted recruiting services for a long time has been 247Sports. On Sunday, 247Sports released its rankings for the states that have the most Top247 prospects in the class of 2024.

The list isn’t full of too many surprises with the usual states of Texas, Georgia, and California among the leaders of the clubhouse.

Let’s take a look at the richest states in the country for football recruiting in the class of 2024.

Big Ten team recruiting rankings – As of July 23, 2023

Big Ten team recruiting rankings as of July 23:

College football’s mid-summer recruiting push is nearly its completion. It’s during that time — the beginning of June to the end of July — when programs architect their classes before preparation for the upcoming seasons begins.

It was a productive time for Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2024 class. The group rounded into form with 20 commitments overall, seven blue-chip recruits and a top-25 national ranking. It is a good first cycle for Fickell as he worked to capitalize on the momentum and excitement from his hire.

Oregon recruits a pair of 4-star linebacker prospects from California

Oregon’s class of 2024 now has 20 hard commits and ranks No. 8 in the nation.

The Oregon Ducks have managed to create a significant boost to their linebacker corps this week with a pair of blue-chip recruits from the same region.

On Friday, they got a commitment from Long Beach Poly (Calif.) four-star linebacker Dylan Williams.

Williams (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) had offers from 30 other programs, including Michigan State, UCLA, Washington and USC. He is ranked No. 17 at his position and No. 18 overall in the state of California, going by the 247Sports composite rankings.

The Ducks followed that up with another big get at this position when Los Alamitos (Calif.) four-star linebacker Kamar Mothudi announced his commitment.

Mothudi (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) is ranked one spot lower among linebackers in his class and No. 20 in the state. He was also being pursued by many of the same schools, including Michigan State, Utah and Washington.

Oregon’s class of 2024 now has 20 hard commits and ranks No. 8 in the nation.

Zabien Brown commitment helps put Alabama in top 15 nationally

This cycle is far from over, though and Nick Saban’s squad is beginning to catch up with the usual contenders.

Alabama won last year’s recruiting cycle, putting together the highest-ranked group of prospects in the nation. However, this year the Tide has been lagging behind a little bit compared to how high they usually finish. Heading into this past week, they weren’t even in the top 20 of the 247Sports composite 2024 recruiting team rankings.

This cycle is far from over, though and Nick Saban’s squad is beginning to catch up with the usual contenders. They got an especially big boost on Sunday night when Alabama got a commitment from Mater Dei (Calif.) four-star cornerback Zabien Brown.

Brown (6-foot-0, 180 pounds) reportedly had offers from 18 other schools. Among the other programs that were considered contenders for his commitment were Ohio State and USC.

According to 247Sports, Brown is the fifth-best cornerback in his class, ranks No. 4 overall in the state of California and No. 45 nationally.

Asked why he picked Alabama, Brown credited his relationship with the coaches, per Hayes Fawcett at On3.

“I just felt like there was a unique opportunity being presented and I really felt at home out there… I grew a great relationship with coach T-Rob, coach Wiggins, and coach Sam Petitio… Also had great talks with coach Saban and my family and reminded me a lot of coach Rollo.”

The Crimson Tide also got a commitment from three-star German linebacker Justin Okoronkwo.

Alabama is now No. 14 in the nation in our updated national recruiting rankings for the 2024 cycle.

SEC class of 2024 recruiting rankings after UGA’s hot start to July

UGA football has the top rated recruiting class in the nation, but how does the rest of the SEC stack up?

The Georgia Bulldogs have the top ranked recruiting class in the SEC and the country in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Kirby Smart and Georgia are taking care of business on the recruiting trail earlier than usual this year.

One interesting note on the class of 2024 is SEC signees will be the first ones to exclusively play in the expanded conference that will include Oklahoma and Texas. There will be no more SEC East and SEC West.

Georgia looks primed to win the nation’s recruiting crown for the class of 2024. Over the next several months, college football programs will try to secure elite talent before the early signing period.

Looking in the SEC, Florida is off to a very strong start in the class of 2024, but can the Gators impress (and keep) commitments with a great 2023 regular season? We are skeptical.

The Alabama Crimson Tide usually start slowly in the recruiting process. However, Nick Saban and company consistently finish with a top recruiting class. True to form, the Crimson Tide have the nation’s No. 25 recruiting class, per 247Sports.

Notably, only Ohio State has more commitments from five-star recruits than Alabama. At this point, it is more about the quality of the recruit than the quantity, but Missouri fans should be concerned with their start to the 2024 cycle.

Here’s where the college football recruiting rankings for the class of 2024 stand:

Alabama improves, but remains outside of top 10 recruiting rankings for 2024

ESPN’s latest recruiting ranking update has Alabama moving in the right direction, but still outside the top 10.

Though the 2023 recruiting class has yet to play a meaningful snap, it’s never too early to look ahead. Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class is slowly coming together but has some ground to make up if it wants to return to the top.

Currently, ESPN’s latest recruiting rankings have the Crimson Tide sitting at No. 13, a slight improvement from its previous ranking of 14.

The top-three teams are No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Florida and No. 3 Ohio State. Much can and will change by the time all is said and done.

Craig Haubert of ESPN briefly broke down the Crimson Tide’s current situation.

“Having signed their eighth No. 1 class under Nick Saban, it should come as no surprise to see the Crimson Tide assembling a top class for the 2024 cycle. After just signing the No. 2 CB in the 2023 class in Desmond Ricks, they already have another five-star CB in Jaylen Mbakwe. The top in-state player, he is a confident coverage corner with fluid hips and excellent speed. On the heels of signing two QBs in the 2023 class, the Tide added another top signal-caller in five-star Julian Sayin, a passer out of California with a live arm who makes good decisions and moves well to create second opportunities. Perry Thompson, who went to the same high school as Alabama great Julio Jones, is another big, talented target with good speed who can also be an aggressive runner after the catch. In-state DL Isaiah Faga flipped from Utah to Alabama, giving the Tide a defender in the trenches with good power and strong hands.”

According to ESPN’s rankings, Alabama if the fifth-highest-ranked SEC team, falling behind the likes of South Carolina, LSU, Florida and Georgia.

With plenty of time before the 2024 cycle ends, Tide fans should expect a noticeable change in where Alabama is ranked in the coming months. Our own Brody Smoot recently broke down a handful of players that could soon commit to the Crimson Tide, which would certainly improve the ranking.

Haubert’s analysis of the class makes it clear that Saban is, once again setting himself and the program up for success and being outside the top 10 is not a cause for concern in the slightest.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow recruiting as the 2023 offseason continues.
