Texas football targets five-star running back in 2021 class

Texas head coach Tom Herman is hoping to sign the nation’s top running back in consecutive recruiting classes.

Could the Longhorns sign the nation’s top running back in consecutive recruiting classes?

It’s a legitimate possibility. Five-star running back Camar Wheaton took an unofficial visit to Texas this week. A high-profile prospect out of Garland Lakeview Centennial, Wheaton traveled to Austin on Tuesday according to Burnt Orange Nation.

Wheaton currently holds dozens of offers, but Oklahoma and Texas appear to be two of his top destinations. The Longhorns only signed one running back in the 2020 recruiting class in five-star prospect Bijan Robinson.

According to 247Sports Composite, Wheaton is the No. 16 overall player in the 2021 recruiting class. Although the 5’11, 190-pound playmaker is the highest-rated prospect at his respective position, he’s the No. 2 overall player in the state of Texas behind offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer .

Wheaton has accounted for over 3,000 rushing yards and 40 rushing touchdowns throughout his high school career thus far.

Three-star cornerback confirms visit to Texas

Three-star CB Ennis Rakestraw will be visiting UT this weekend. Rakestraw would be the second CB Texas would sign in the 2020 class.

Hosting a few recruits this weekend, it seems another one will be heading down to Austin this weekend for a visit. Ennis Rakestraw tweeted out that he was on his way to the 40 acres this weekend. A three-star cornerback, Rakestraw would be the second cornerback Texas would sign in this year’s recruiting class.

Listed at 6 feet 170 pounds, Rakestraw is from Duncanville, Texas. Attending Duncanville High School, if he were to sign with the Longhorns, he would join high school teammate Ja’Quinden Jackson in the 2020 class.

Only two other Big 12 teams are in on Rakestraw, as Baylor and Kansas have also given him offers. Local Texas schools have done the same, with SMU, North Texas, and Texas Southern being on his offer list.

The main threat to the Longhorns, however, are the Alabama Crimson Tide. 247Sports Crystal Ball currently has him 100% going to Alabama as he visited Tuscaloosa last weekend. With signing day a couple days away, Rakestraw would be a solid addition to a strong 2020 class.

With the 2020 recruiting class wrapping up at the beginning of February, Texas has begun to focus on upcoming classes. Already offering 18 players in the 2022 class, the Longhorns added another one to the list, this time from California.

Texas has offered four-star wide receiver, CJ Williams from Santa Ana, CA. Out of the famous Mater Dei High School, Williams is listed at 6 feet 2 inches and 175 pounds. He is currently the seventh-best wide receiver in the 2022 class and ranked 43rd overall.

According to 247Sports, Williams already has 13 offers, but the Longhorns are the first school from the Big 12 to offer him. Local schools Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and USC have offered Williams, along with SEC schools like Alabama, LSU, and Georgia.

This is the fourth wide receiver Texas has offered from the 2022 class. Williams is the second from out of state as they have also offered five-star Luther Burden out of Saint Louis, MO. Caleb Burton and Armani Winfield are both four-stars from Texas.
