Photo Gallery: Best pictures from Georgia’s ugly win over Kent State

An ugly day in Athens, but some nice photos.

Well, that was not much fun. No. 1 Georgia moved to 4-0 after an ugly 39-22 win at home versus Kent State on Saturday. The Golden Flashes forced three UGA turnovers and put up 22 points, the most given up by the Bulldogs since Alabama’s 41 points in the 2021 SEC Championship game.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett went 27/36 for 272 yards, one rushing score and one interception. Receiver Ladd McConkey struggled mightily with a muffed punt, lost fumble and three drops. The Dawgs’ run defense was exposed and Kent State scored the first rushing touchdown the Bulldogs have given up this season while racking up 93 yards on the ground.

There were some bright spots, though. Tight end Brock Bowers ran for a 75-yard touchdown and a two-yard score, while adding five catches for 60 yards. Running back Daijun Edwards finished as the team’s second leading rusher behind Bowers with 12 carries for 73 yards and safety Safety Christopher Smith nabbed his second interception of the season.

Twitter reactions: Michigan football defeated Maryland

What a game!

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 4 Michigan Wolverines had not been battle-tested in their first three games of the season.

But that changed when Maryland came to the Big House. The Wolverines ended up winning 34-27, but the Terps really came to play against the Wolverines.

The Wolverines recovered the opening kickoff after Maryland botched it and Michigan scored a touchdown the very next play. But the Terps went out to a 13-10 lead shortly after. Maryland controlled most of the first half until Blake Corum rushed for a 33-yard touchdown with 23 seconds left in the first half.

The final score will show that it was a one-possession game, but Michigan was up a couple scores most of the second half. The Terps scored a late touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it a seven-point game.

The hero of the game was Blake Corum. The junior had a career-day rushing the ball 30 times for 243 yards and two scores.

Here is what Twitter thought about the game.

Inside the Box Score: Key stats from Penn State’s win vs. Central Michigan

Inside the box score from Penn State’s victory over Central Michigan in Week 4.

It is difficult to argue with the performance of any team that wins a game by a final score of 33-14, but it is possible to argue Penn State did not have its best performance against Central Michigan in Week 4. Some of the team and individual stats may not blow anybody away, but there were some encouraging developments sprinkled across Penn State’s 33-14 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.

The running game saw another freshman step up in a big way and the secondary got a huge showing from one of its top recruits from the Class of 2021. And it was another overall solid afternoon from Penn State’s veteran quarterback even if it was not one of his better afternoons.

Let’s dig into some of the key stats from Penn State’s Week 4 victory over Central Michigan.

Instant Reaction: Penn State improves to 4-0 after win over Central Michigan

Instant Reaction: Penn State improves to 4-0 after 33-14 win over Central Michigan

It may not have been the perfectly executed game for the Nittany Lions, but Penn State came out on top with a 33-14 victory against Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon in Beaver Stadium.

[autotag]Sean Clifford[/autotag] started the game connecting on all eight of his pass attempts as Penn State jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but misfires and catchable balls not being hauled in popped up in bunches after that as the Penn State offense stalled a bit in the second quarter. Central Michigan battled back to tie things at 14-14 in the second quarter but the Nittany Lions responded with a go-ahead touchdown run by [autotag]Kaytron Allen[/autotag], and Penn State never saw the lead evaporate the rest of the day.

Penn State’s defense had some tough moments against the Chippewas, but they forced five CMU turnovers in the game. It was the second week Penn State forced at least four turnovers in a game. That included one recovery of a muffed punt by Central Michigan in the third quarter, which led to a quick Penn State touchdown to extend its lead.

Clifford ended his afternoon with 217 passing yards and three touchdown passes with one rushing touchdown before getting a chance to relax midway through the fourth quarter. [autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag] took over for the rest of the day.

After back-to-back 100-rushing performances, [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] was handled well by Central Michigan. Singleton rushed for just 37 yards on 10 carries. Fortunately for Penn State, Kaytron Allen was there to turn in his first career 100-yard game to lead the offense on the ground.

Penn State made an effort to get Parker Washington more involved from the start. Washington caught six passes on nine targets his way for 64 yards. Tight end Brenton Strange came through with a pair of touchdowns on five catches. Mitchell Tinsley also scored a touchdown for the Nittany Lions, continuing to be a valuable red zone option.

The defense was without a sack until the fourth quarter. Freshman [autotag]Dani Dennis-Sutton[/autotag] picked up two very quickly late in the game.

Penn State will be home once again next week for a Big Ten matchup with Northwestern. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 1.

Central Michigan will play their MAC opener on the road at Toledo next Saturday, also at 3:30 p.m. ET.

The Napkin: Week 4 betting picks highlighted by Notre Dame & Kansas

We now live in a world where betting on Rutgers & Kansas is seen as the smart thing to do. This one is for you @SickosCommittee. College Football, man.

There are a lot of fun games being played this week, even if there is a lack of top-tier matchups. Nothing against my beloved Florida Gators and nothing against the Tennessee Volunteers, but the fact that College GameDay is heading to Knoxville this week speaks volumes about the top end of the game slate this week.

Let me put it this way, if I told you that Duke and Kansas were undefeated heading into the fourth week of the season, you would say “It’s a little early for basketball season”.

If I responded “No, silly. we’re in September and I’m talking about their football teams,” you would walk away slowly and question my sanity.

Not only are Duke and Kansas both 3-0, but these teams play each other this week! It’s like a Sicko’s Committee’s dream.

That’s the theme of the Week 4 edition of The Napkin. The Sicko’s Committee’s dream.

I went 0-5 last week (yikes) with my selections to bring us to 6-11 on the season (BIG yikes). Let’s own this week and get back on track after, arguably, the worst betting week of my life.

All odds are provided by BetMGM, our current official partner here at Gators Wire.

Without further ado, The Napkin for Week 4.

Predicting every Big Ten college football game in Week 4

A good slate of football this week!

Week 4 has some intriguing matchups for the Big Ten. Every team in the Big Ten, save for Nebraska, will be playing this week.

There are four head-to-head Big Ten matchups and five games that will be played that feature a non-conference opponent in Week 4.

While there isn’t a pair of top 25 teams squaring off this weekend, there are three marquee games Saturday and all three are in different time slots. Maryand visits Michigan at noon, Minnesota travels to Michigan State at 3:30 EDT, and Wisconsin will take on Ohio State at 7:30 EDT on ABC.

Teams like Penn State, Indiana, and Rutgers will all look to stay undefeated this weekend with two of them facing non-conference foes and the Scarlet Knights will take on Iowa.

We are going to predict the outcome for each Big Ten game in Week 4.

How Alabama transfers performed in their Week 3 matchups

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at how some former Alabama players performed this past weekend at their new schools.

Alabama has seen a multitude of players hit the transfer portal in recent years. Some have panned out while others haven’t. During the offseason, more players on the roster transferred than in years past.

Several of the more notable players to transfer were Drew Sanders, Jahleel Billingsley, and Javon Baker. Those three played a good amount of snaps at their respective positions. On the other hand, countless other former Alabama players have faired well. Some of those have been Eyabi Anoma, Taulia Tagovailoa, and Brandon Turnage.

As the season progresses, we will continue to keep you up to date on the latest regarding Alabama transfers. Today, Roll Tide Wire will take a look at how some of the former Alabama players performed for their respective teams in their Week 3 matchups.

The staff predicts the winner of Auburn-Missouri

The Auburn Tigers will host the Missouri Tigers for the first time. How confident is the staff in an Auburn win on Saturday?

Week 4 in college football is the SEC opener for the Auburn Tigers. After knocking off Mercer and San Jose State to begin the season, Bryan Harsin’s squad fell to Penn State, 41-12.

After the worst home loss since a 38-0 thumping by the Georgia Bulldogs in 2012, the home team looks to bounce back in front of the home crowd at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The visitors come in with a similar resume and are led by a former Auburn assistant, Eli Drinkwitz.

Both head coaches are hovering around the .500 mark with their schools. Drinkwitz was 12-1 after one season at Appalachian State before taking over Missouri. Since the beginning of the 2021 season, both coaches are 8-8 after finishing 6-7 with bowl game losses to end the campaign.

It almost feels like these two coaches are mirror images of one another. The only difference is that Missouri’s head coach didn’t lose five-straight games to close out last year. But that is neither here nor there, the focus is on winning this SEC matchup on Saturday.

With that being said, the Auburn Wire staff weighs in on the game with predictions and X-Factors for this all-Tiger matchup.

Behind Enemy Lines: Vols Wire’s Dan Harralson gives his take on Tennessee

Our friend Dan Harralson over at @VolsWire chimes in with his thoughts on this weekend’s matchup.

The Florida Gators and Tennessee Volunteers are set to face off in Neyland Stadium on Saturday in a battle of two historic Southeastern Conference foes. Both teams enter Week 4 of college football ranked in the top 25 of both major polls though one has looked much better so far than the other during the opening weeks of the 2022 campaign.

The Orange and Blue holds the all-time edge in this series, 31-20, and has won the last five meetings between the two schools. Prior to Tennessee’s last win, the Gators had taken 11 in a row. But this year, things feel different, as the team from Rocky Top has the home-field advantage and is favored by a double-digit spread according to most bookmakers.

We asked Vols Wire’s managing editor Dan Harrelson for an inside scoop on what Tennessee brings to the table this year. Take a look below at what our esteemed colleague has to offer for Florida fans.
