Injury update: CU Buffs could be without QB Owen McCown against Arizona State

Per Mike Sanford, Owen McCown is “not there yet” in terms of his injury recovery

Colorado interim head coach Mike Sanford addressed the media on Tuesday and revealed that Buffaloes starting quarterback Owen McCown is “not there yet” in terms of his injury recovery.

McCown had taken a beating in the Cal game on Oct. 15 and was eventually removed late for a healthier JT Shrout. Shrout was then given the start last week at Oregon State with McCown out of uniform.

Per Sanford, the true freshman QB is recovering from a throwing-based injury and remains limited at practice. The Buffs will continue to monitor his progress, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they roll with Shrout against Arizona State on Saturday.

The Last Ten: Auburn Football’s recent history with the Arkansas Razorbacks

Auburn looks to continue its impressive winning streak over the Razorbacks on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The Auburn Tigers return to Jordan-Hare Stadium for the first time since Oct. 1 on Saturday when they welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks to town for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff.

Auburn holds a 19-11 overall record over Arkansas and has won six straight games, which is the longest streak for either team in the series. These two teams have played every season since the Razorbacks joined the SEC in 1992, and played just one previous time in the 1984 Liberty Bowl, a game that Auburn won, 21-15 in Memphis, Tenn.

Over the six-game stretch, Auburn has won nearly every game in convincing fashion. The only close game played between these two teams over the last six seasons took place at Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2020. Auburn won the game on a controversial call that appeared to be a fumble but instead was ruled an incomplete pass as the result of Auburn quarterback [autotag]Bo Nix[/autotag] spiking the football to stop the clock. The call bounced Auburn’s way and allowed [autotag]Anders Carlson[/autotag] to kick a game-winning field goal with 0:08 seconds remaining in the contest.

Here is a look back at Auburn Football’s recent history with the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Ohio State vs. Penn State: Complete preview and prediction

Ohio State heads to Happy Valley for a Big Noon Kickoff against Penn State. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team faced a tough defense in Iowa this past week and came out on top. It took the Buckeye offense some time to figure out the Hawkeye D, but after halftime adjustments, C.J. Stroud and company showed no mercy to finish off a 54-10 drubbing of the Big Ten West foe.

Probably the biggest highlight was how the OSU defense fared. While Iowa is historically bad on the offensive side of the ball, the defense held the Hawkeyes to just three points as the lone Iowa touchdown came via a scoop and score. It’s been quite some time since Buckeye fans could feel confident in the Silver Bullets.

Ohio State hits the road for the second time this season, this time heading to Happy Valley to take on the No. 13 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. Beaver Stadium is never an easy place to play, especially when you’re wearing scarlet and gray. These two teams have given us some instant classics in recent years.

Do we see a tough matchup or another Buckeye blowout? Let’s get into everything you need to know to get you ready for a top-15 contest.

LeBron James reacts to Jordan Poole’s smooth bucket vs. Suns

After Jordan Poole’s smooth sequence of handles that resulted in a bucket against the Suns, LeBron James chimed in on Twitter with praise for the Warriors guard.

After a season-high 24-point performance against the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, Jordan Poole continued to heat up on Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns.

Poole quickly answered the bell in the first half against the Suns, scoring 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field with two triples and three assists in 15 minutes off the bench in the first two quarters.

In the second quarter, Poole showed off his full bag with former teammate Damion Lee guarding him. Poole froze Lee with a sequence of dazzling handles and footwork to get to the bucket for a smooth layup off the glass.

Guarded against overconfidence vs. MSU, Michigan focused on bringing Paul Bunyan Trophy back to Ann Arbor

#Michigan is locked in for this game! #GoBlue

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Throw out the record books when it comes to rivalry games like Saturday’s tilt between Michigan and Michigan State, people often say. But with the No. 4 ranked team in the Wolverines facing an unranked 3-4 Spartans team, is there really a danger for the maize and blue on Saturday?

Yes, of course there is. And Michigan knows that.

Teams tend to get upset by others who are struggling usually when there’s a mixture of a better game plan from the underdog, as well as more physicality, and an overall lackadaisical attitude from the presumed favorite. Sometimes good teams get got, as some might say, and when that happens, it often is because the favorite comes into a matchup overconfident, so assured that it will win that it hasn’t put in the preparation or effort to win the game.

These Wolverines aren’t treating the Spartans that way this week.

Often, the battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy is said to be MSU’s super bowl, a game that matters most to that program, regardless of how either team is faring. The players inside Schembechler Hall are aware that they will get Michigan State’s best on Saturday night, and they’re preparing accordingly, as to ensure that no upset will happen.

“Football is a game anyone can lose. Anyone can lose any given day,” junior running back Blake Corum said. “And so I think we’re confident with ourselves, we’re confident with what we can do. I don’t think we’re overconfident just because of the type of team we are. You know, we treat every game like it’s a championship game. And so there’s no such thing as going into the game, ‘Like we’re about to dominate them.’ Obviously, we think that right? We want dominate them, but it’s not overconfidence, just being confident.

“And so I feel like that’s how we’re gonna go into this game — just confident. We understand the record isn’t the same as last year when we met, right? But we’re confident. We know they’re coming to play, they’re gonna give us their best game. And like I said, Saturday can’t come fast enough.”

OK, so Michigan is preparing as it should, that’s check No. 1. What about complacency? Is there any part of this team that’s expecting to go in and just roll?

According to one defensive player, they feel like they’re ready and able, but take nothing for granted.

“I don’t think we’re complacent at all,” junior safety Makari Paige said. “We know what this game means, so I feel like there won’t be no overconfidence. Confidence is good, but not overconfidence. We still know the game plan. We still know what we’ve gotta do.”

After winning two in a row in this series, the Wolverines have lost two. Michigan was a three-score favorite coming into the Week 2 game hosting MSU in 2020, but ultimately faltered. Both teams were undefeated heading into East Lansing in 2021, and the Wolverines were still favored. After jumping out to a 16-point lead, Michigan squandered it, unable to hold on, and lost that one, too.

Thus, there is no lack of focus for this squad, knowing what’s happened each of the last two years. If there’s a point in which these Wolverines intend to relax, it’s once the game is won and Paul Bunyan resides back in the home team locker room.

“It’s not even like that’s a question for us — overconfidence,” senior receiver Cornelius Johnson said. “It can definitely be a factor. But for us, we’re not taking that into — we’ve just got one focus. And that’s bringing back the Paul Bunyan Trophy into Schembechler. ”

Michigan and MSU will kick off at 7:44 p.m. EDT on Saturday at The Big House. The game will be nationally televised on ABC.

Sam Pittman on Auburn: ‘They are playing hard’

Pittman looks to earn his first win over Auburn as Arkansas’ head coach on Saturday, but understands that the task is a tall one.

Arkansas Football has found an identity under head coach Sam Pittman.

Despite winning just once in their last four games, Pittman led the Razorbacks to a 9-4 record, and a bowl win in 2021. One thing that he has not done, however, is beat Auburn.

In Pittman’s first season in 2020, the Razorbacks left Jordan-Hare Stadium with a loss after a controversial call set the Tigers up with a game-winning field goal that lifted Auburn to a 30-28 win. In 2021, [autotag]Bo Nix[/autotag] threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns in Auburn’s 38-23 win over Arkansas, spoiling their homecoming.

He hopes to change the trend on Saturday when he takes his team into Jordan-Hare Stadium to face Auburn at 11 a.m. CT., but he understands that it will be a tall task. Outside of Auburn’s talent, he is impressed with how hard that the Tigers play each week.

“But I think they’re playing hard–for them to come back after being down 21-0 last, the last game against Ole Miss, and come back and make that a close, good football game on the road. I think it says a lot about their coaching staff and the kids still believing in them and playing extremely hard.”

Pittman looks to become the first Arkansas head coach since Bret Bielema to beat Auburn. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Rockets injury news: Jae’Sean Tate returns, Alperen Sengun ill

Jae’Sean Tate appears likely to make his regular-season debut Wednesday, but Alperen Sengun will miss a second straight game due to an illness, according to the Rockets.

Veteran forward Jae’Sean Tate is likely to make his regular-season debut Wednesday in Utah, but center Alperen Sengun will miss a second straight game due to an illness, according to the Rockets.

Barring a setback, Tate will play after missing Houston’s first four games with left ankle soreness, per Kelly Iko of The Athletic. Tate’s return gives Houston a much-needed defensive frontcourt presence long with a useful ballhandler and facilitator to help bench units.

Sengun, however, will not travel with the team to Utah and is set to miss his second straight game. Per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, Sengun plans to rejoin the team and return to the court during the four-game road trip, which features matchups against the Jazz, Trail Blazers, Suns and Clippers.

In addition to Sengun, Houston remains without center Bruno Fernando and rookie guard TyTy Washington. Each are dealing with left knee sprains. Their return timetables are not known.

PFF grades: Michigan football’s top 10 defensive players through 7 games

This defense is awesome! #GoBlue

The Wolverines are out to a 7-0 start to the season and the defense has been just as solid, if not better, than last season.

Michigan has the third-ranked scoring defense that allows 12.1 points per game to its opponent. The Wolverines also have the No. 5 defense that gives up 250 yards per game to the opposing offense.

As we all know, Michigan lost Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo to the NFL draft this past year. That duo will go down as one of the best to ever play the edge position in Michigan history, but the Wolverines have done a nice job replacing that talent.

The Wolverines have tallied 12 sacks through seven games this year and Mike Morris has emerged as one of the best in the Big Ten. Morris ranks third in the conference with five sacks on the season.

Looking back to the first half of the season, here is who Pro Football Focus grades as the top 10 Michigan defensive players through seven games.
