It’s all business for J.J. Pegues as he prepares to face former team

Pegues says that his former Auburn teammates are “my enemy until the end of the game.”

Former Tiger [autotag]J.J. Pegues[/autotag] had an interesting career during his two-year stint at Auburn from 2020 to 2021.

Pegues, who stands 6-2, 300 pounds, started his career as a tight end for Auburn. He would record seven catches for 57 yards during his freshman season in 2020. He was also used as a running back in special packages, rushing for 14 yards on five attempts, which included two plays that resulted in first downs.

When [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] took over in 2021, Pegues moved to the defensive line. There, he made 17 stops.

Following the 2021 season, Pegues decided to return to his hometown of Oxford, Mississippi by way of the transfer portal to play for the Ole Miss Rebels. Pegues’ transfer is a gift that head coach Lane Kiffin waited two years to receive after he initially missed out on landing the hometown product.

“Me and Lane talk about it a little bit,” Pegues said. “We just joke around about it, how he was saying how I never gave him an opportunity to recruit me. It was really deep into my recruitment when I was going to the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game. I had my mind set on one thing. I just didn’t want any other burdens. For a high schooler, that’s a lot to deal with. I really just locked in on that. We just joke about it every now and then.”

This Saturday, Pegues finally gets the chance to meet up with his former squad. He says that he still loves all of his former teammates, but understands that Saturday is all business.

“We talk about it, just about it being a normal game,” Pegues said. “Take it like any other opponent, but just know there’s still love for them on the other side. At the end of the day, there’s one goal and that’s to get the win… I still love them, they’re my friends. But at the end of the day, we’re playing them, so they’re my enemy until the end of the game.”

Pegues has played defensive tackle for the Rebels this season. Through five games, the Auburn transfer has made ten total stops with one quarterback sack. His season-high came against Kentucky on Oct. 1, when he recorded four tackles.

Twitter reacts: UGA football flips UCLA’s highest-rated commit

The Georgia Bulldogs have flipped UCLA football’s top commitment in the class of 2023, four-star running back Roderick Robinson.

The Georgia Bulldogs have flipped UCLA football’s top commitment in the class of 2023. Four-star running back Roderick Robinson is now committed to the Georgia Bulldogs and is shutting down his recruitment.

Robinson visited Athens for the Auburn game. Robinson has built some special relationships with members of the Georgia coaching staff.

The four-star running back’s decision is a big recruiting loss for UCLA, who now has only six commitments in the class of 2023. Roderick Robinson was UCLA’s highest-ranked commit.

The Bruins are off to a 6-0 start to the 2022 college football season, but UCLA is struggling on the recruiting trail. UCLA and head coach Chip Kelly has the No. 80 recruiting class in the country.

Robinson is ranked as the No. 15 running back in the country and No. 18 recruit in California per 247Sports. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound running back is the No. 270 recruit in the country.

Robinson plays high school football for Lincoln High School in San Diego, California. The Lincoln standout is Georgia’s first commitment from a running back in the class of 2023. Georgia has 21 total commitments in the class of 2023 and the No. 2 recruiting class in the country.

Here’s how Georgia football reacted to Robinson’s decision to flip his commitment via Twitter:

TV, commentators set for UGA vs. Vanderbilt game

The Georgia-Vanderbilt game will be televised on SEC Network. Kickoff is the same time as the hyped up Alabama-Tennessee game.

The (6-0, 3-0) Georgia Bulldogs host the (3-3, 0-2) Vanderbilt Commodores  on October 15. Kickoff time for the SEC East clash is 3:30 p.m. ET.

Vanderbilt is off to a much better start this season. The Commodores have been much more competitive in 2022. Vanderbilt went 2-10 during the 2021 college football season.

The Commodores have not won an SEC game since beating Missouri in Oct. 2019.

The Vanderbilt-Georgia game will be televised on SEC Network. Taylor Zarzour will call the play-by-play, former Georgia Bulldog Matt Stinchcomb  will serve as an analyst, and Alyssa Lang will be the game’s sideline reporter.

Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea has the program playing more competitive, but can they win an SEC game in 2022? Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Vanderbilt will be motivated to after last year’s embarrassing game against Georgia. The Commodores lost 62-0 at home against the Dawgs last season.

Vanderbilt has not played in Athens since 2018. The Commodores were unable to field a healthy team against Georgia in 2020. Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart have won their last four games against Vanderbilt.

Georgia has won 23 of the last 26 games in series history.

Georgia fans may be tempted to watch the Alabama-Tennessee game that is also at 3:30 p.m. ET this Saturday. There are a lot of great college football games to watch in Week 7.

Behind enemy lines: Michigan vs. Penn State

Good insight on Penn State! #GoBlue

There will be a top-10 showdown in Ann Arbor on Saturday. The 6-0 Michigan Wolverines are set to host the 5-0 Penn State Nittany Lions.

Michigan is coming off back-to-back wins on the road. The Wolverines took care of Iowa, 27-14, and then beat Indiana last week, 31-10. Penn State had the luxury of watching the Wolverines last week in Bloomington since the Nittany Lions had their bye week during Week 6 play.

Both teams stack up fairly even on paper. Michigan has the No. 5 scoring defense and the No. 7 scoring offense, while Penn State has the No. 13 scoring defense and the No. 37 scoring offense.

To get to know PSU a little better, we talked with Andrew Harbaugh at Nittany Lions Wire to better understand what Michigan will be up against on Saturday. We discuss the Penn State pass defense, which impact players to look for, if Sean Clifford could shoulder the load, and much more below.

Michigan football’s top 10 defensive players from Week 6 vs. Indiana according to PFF

Defense continues to be strong!

The Wolverines moved to 6-0 on the year after defeating Indiana, 31-10 on Saturday.

The Michigan defense played well the entire game. The secondary allowed some unusual long plays and the defense was hit with some strange penalties, but the maize and blue played well against a high-volume passing attack.

The Wolverines allowed 222 yards of total offense and just 29 yards in the second half.

The defense caused havoc against Connor Bazelak. The Wolverines sacked him seven times and there were countless times when he would get hit from the amount of pressure the Wolverines would get.

Michigan forced one turnover against the Hoosiers which was an interception from Rod Moore.

Pro Football Focus grades each player after every game. In case you were wondering which Michigan defensive players graded out the highest, we have you covered.

Here are the top 10 Michigan defensive players according to PFF. This is a 15-snap minimum to make the list.

Michigan football’s top 10 offensive players from Week 6 vs. Indiana according to PFF

Nice seeing the O-line dominate! #GoBlue

Michigan football remained undefeated after defeating Indiana in Bloomington, 31-10.

The Wolverines went right down the field on the first drive to take a 7-0 lead, but the offense was stagnant in the first half. The maize and blue went into halftime tied with the Hoosiers, 10-10.

Then the second half happened.

Michigan scored 21 points against the Hoosiers and the Wolverines moved the ball quite easily. The only mishap from the Michigan offense was when J.J. McCarthy threw his first interception of the season trying to force a ball to Ronnie Bell in a tight window.

The Wolverines racked up 469 yards of total offense. 304 came through the air — McCarthy had his first 300-yard passing game for Michigan — and 165 on the ground. Blake Corum rushed for 124 yards and a score. It was Corum’s third-straight 100-plus yard rushing game in a row.

In case you were wondering which Michigan offensive players graded out the best, we have you covered. Here are the top 10 Wolverines who had the best day against Indiana according to PFF.

Joel Klatt’s top 10 after CFB Week 6

Where does Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt rank the Georgia Bulldogs?

Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt moved the Georgia Bulldogs up in his rankings after Week 6. Georgia dominated Auburn in a 42-10 victory. The Bulldogs bounced back after nearing losing at Missouri last week.

Alabama narrowly won over Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide were without Bryce Young. However, that game should not have been so close.

Clemson won on the road at Boston College. The Ohio State Buckeyes won in convincing fashion over Michigan State. Speaking of the state of Michigan, the Wolverines pulled away from Indiana in the second half for a 31-10 victory.

Week 7 may be the best week of college football all season. Who do Joel Klatt’s top 10 teams play next week?

Mike Hart updates health status after collapse, seizure at Indiana

Good news. #GoBlue

It was a terrifying moment in Bloomington: Michigan football running backs coach Mike Hart suddenly fell backward on the sideline, slipping into a seizure.

Immediately, he was surrounded by concerned staff and players, who were doing everything they could until he was stabilized enough to be carted off the field. As he was taken off, he gave a thumbs-up to those who could see in the stadium.

After the game, Wolverines players as well as head coach Jim Harbaugh shared they had learned Hart had been stabilized at the hospital, a message that Harbaugh shared with the team at halftime, but he was to stay in Indiana overnight.

On Monday morning, Michigan football shared a quote from Hart, who said he’s back in Ann Arbor, he’s feeling better, and he’s working toward rejoining the team.

Hart is in his second season coaching at his alma mater, having come from Indiana, where he was the assistant head coach under Tom Allen. Saturday’s game was supposed to be something of a homecoming for Hart, given that he spent four years in Bloomington.

Week 6 of college football was loaded with great games.

Through the first half of the season, there’s no shortage of quality teams. Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama are viewed as the top-teams, but  Michigan, Clemson, Tennessee, USC, Ole Miss and Oklahoma State are all legit threats as well.

Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, now a college football analyst with ESPN, provided me with his personal rankings of the top 10 teams following Week 6.

Warriors vs. Lakers: Jordan Poole, Steph Curry combine for 49 points in preseason loss

Despite 49 combined points from Steph Curry and Jordan Poole, it wasn’t enough against the Lakers on Sunday night in the preseason.

After an eventful week at training camp, the Golden State Warriors opened the doors to Chase Center for the first time since the 2022 NBA Finals for a preseason contest against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night.

Heading into their contest against the Lakers, the Warriors boasted a perfect 2-0 record in the preseason after two wins over the Washington Wizards in Japan.

While Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala didn’t suit up, started like Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole and Kevon Looney all played over 20 minutes for the Warriors.

Curry and Poole combined for 49 points to lead the Warriors against the Lakers. Curry notched 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor with four rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes on Sunday night.

Poole led the Warriors with 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field with a trio of 3s, six assists and four rebounds in 23 minutes. Poole heated up in the third quarter, scoring 18 of his points in a single frame.

James Wiseman continued his strong preseason with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor with six boards and an assist in 18 minutes off the bench.

However, it wasn’t enough to slow Anthony Davis and the Lakers. Davis tallied a game-high 28 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor with three rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes. Kendrick Nunn added 21 points off the bench to help seal the Lakers’ win, 124-121.

Following a loss to the Lakers, the Warriors will be back at Chase Center for another preseason contest against the Train Blazers on Tuesday night.
