Madden 23 player ratings for former Georgia running backs

Madden ratings for six former UGA running backs

EA Sports is revealing ratings for Madden NFL 23 this week.

Included in the ratings are six former Georgia football running backs: Nick Chubb, D’Andre Swift, Sony Michel, James Cook, Zamir White and Elijah Holyfield.

Both Cook and White will be rookies during the 2022 NFL season after helping Georgia to its first national title in 41 years.

Chubb ranks tied for the second best ball carrier in the game with Christian McCaffrey. Only Derrick Henry ranks higher.

Swift, the third year back, has had durability issues but has shown he’s capable of being a star if he can stay healthy.

And Michel is now on the Miami Dolphins after winning his second Super Bowl in four years.

Here is how each former UGA running back rates in Madden 23:

Here’s the player rating of Packers rookie Christian Watson in ‘Madden NFL 23’

Packers rookie WR Christian Watson will be a 71 overall at the launch of “Madden NFL 23.”

Green Bay Packers rookie Christian Watson might need some development on franchise mode before he’s a game-changing virtual player on “Madden NFL 23.”

The popular video game franchise released player ratings for wide receivers on Monday, and Watson – the Packers’ highest pick at the position since 2002 – will be a 71 overall at launch.

Watson, at 6-4, has 93 speed, 94 acceleration, 85 agility, 89 jumping, 77 catching, 73 break tackle, 85 change of direction and 77 spectacular catch.

Among Packers receivers, Watson has the best speed and acceleration, the fifth-best agility and second-best jumping – making him the best athlete at the position in Green Bay entering 2022. That’s no surprise given how he dominated the combine during the predraft and ended up as one of the best overall athletes the draft has ever seen at receiver.

Virtually, Watson’s combination of size and athleticism could make him a dangerous deep threat, which is what the Packers are expecting from him early in his NFL career. He has 76 deep route running.

Watson, at 71 overall, is the fourth-best receiver on the Packers roster by rating, trailing Sammy Watkins (79), Randall Cobb (78) and Allen Lazard (77). Fellow rookies Romeo Doubs and Samori Toure come in at 67 and 66 overall, respectively.

Also of note: former Packers receiver Davante Adams remained in the “99 Club.” He’s the highest-rated receiver in the game.

Notre Dame-Wisconsin puts up massive ratings

Maybe that explains the 11 AM start a bit more…

You haven’t heard much from the “Notre Dame is irrelevant” crowd much lately.

Sure, the vocal ones out there were chirping a bit after Notre Dame’s close calls against Florida State and Toledo but not much has been heard the last few weeks.  You can argue just exactly how good Notre Dame is and that’s fine and dandy, but you can’t argue they’re irrelevant as the TV ratings they continue to bring in simply say otherwise.

According to Matt Fortuna of The Athletic, the Irish and Badgers contest averaged 5.369 million viewers on Fox.  According to Fortuna that’s a 20% increase as to the number of viewers Fox averaged on a Big Ten Saturday in 2019 (obviously things were a bit different in 2020).  I know a lot of Notre Dame fans didn’t like the 12 p.m. ET start but Fox gets big numbers on these when matchups call for it like Saturday’s clearly did.

It’s another huge ratings performance for Notre Dame, a few short weeks after putting up a huge number for the opener at Florida State.  You don’t raise a banner for this success but it certainly doesn’t hurt when you’re trying to pitch your program to 16-year old kids, either.

Browns, Chiefs have huge viewership in Week 1

Browns, Chiefs was a great game with high expectations. A lot of people agreed and tuned in according to information released by CBS:

The Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs matchup in Week 1 was bound to be a good one. The Chiefs were coming off back to back Super Bowl appearances, with one win, while the Browns were coming off their first playoff appearance in a long-time and were seen as real challengers to Kansas City.

The game itself proved to be everything that was expected. It was a closely contested battle in the fourth quarter between two very good teams. While Cleveland came up short in the end, they proved that they belonged on the field. The Chiefs showed just how hard it is to beat them.

On Tuesday came word that the expectations for the game, and the game flow itself, helped the viewership for CBS:

Not only did the game have expectations but both fan bases are passionate about their teams. Browns fans have been engaging in putrid affairs from their team for decades and are not about to miss the quality product put on the field. Fans of Kansas City know how exciting the offense is and wanted to see how their new offensive line came together.

The result wasn’t what Cleveland wanted but the team is hoping to have another crack at the Chiefs in the playoffs. Based on the ratings in Week 1, television networks would love that as well.

Cleveland notched the best TV ratings for 1st round of the NFL draft

Cleveland notched the best TV ratings for 1st round of the NFL draft

The 2021 NFL draft pulled in outstanding ratings on television platforms. And no market contributed more to the high ratings than The Land.

Nearly 13 million people tuned into the first round of the draft on Thursday night. Only the 2019 first round pulled higher television ratings. To put it in perspective, more people watched the first round of the 2021 NFL draft than watched the deciding game of the World Series last fall.

Cleveland topped all measured markets in local ratings. The host city logged a rating of 21.7, meaning over 20 percent of all televisions in Northeast Ohio that were on were tuned into the draft.

Even though the Browns did not pick until after three hours of the draft had already passed, Cleveland still tuned in with record numbers.

Misery Loves Company: Cowboys-Washington NFL’s most-watched game

The Dallas Cowboys game against the Washington Football Team on Thanksgiving is the most watched game of the year.

This year’s version of the Dallas Cowboys has something in common with the many iterations that have come before: they are still America’s Team. Good, bad or ugly, it doesn’t matter because people still want to tune in to watch the Cowboys.

The annual Thanksgiving day game often brings in gigantic numbers, with the huddled masses surrounding a television in order to avoid spending time with their families. This year was no different, as last Thursday’s game against the Washington Football Team was the most watched of the NFL season to date.

Jerry Jones has become something of a carnival barker of late and his team, a kind of freakish side show that is somehow the dregs of a division barely worthy of its professional status. Dallas is truly worthy of the often used car crash analogy, people truly can’t look away.

The Cowboys always reigned supreme in terms of viewers during the regular season, but unfortunately for their fans that popularity hasn’t translated to playoff success. It’s hard to imagine the boost the NFL would get if the Jones family business ever got its act together to make a serious run.

Washington’s Thanskgiving Day game vs. Cowboys was most-watched in NFL this season

Washington’s 41-16 stomping of the Dallas Cowboys was viewed by over 30 million people on Thanksgiving, the highest-rated game in the NFL this year.

For their first 10 games of the season, the Washington Football Team had an extremely hard time getting nearly anyone to tune into their games. This was not a surprise, with none of them coming on national television, and none of them acting as particularly interesting matchups between good teams. However, their Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Dallas Cowboys would act as their first chance to really perform on a big stage.

Well, it turns out that stage was incredibly big, and they sure didn’t disappoint.

The recent numbers have come in, and Washington’s game vs. the Cowboys was the highest-rated game in the NFL this season, with more than 30 million viewers tuning in.

Of course, that number likely has a lot more to do with the fact that it was Thanksgiving Day, rather than the fact that Washington was on, but we will still take what we can get. 30 million people tuned into watch Washington play the Cowboys, and the Burgundy and Gold absolutely thrashed Dallas, winning 41-16 in the end.

Next week, Washington will play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on national TV once again, with the game being moved to Monday evening. Is there a chance they can step up to the plate once again?

Midseason Saints progress report: Grading offense, defense, special teams

The New Orleans Saints are 6-2 with eight games left ahead of them, but how do the offense, defense, and special teams units grade out?

How do the New Orleans Saints grade out after eight games? With eight more still to go, they seem to be getting healthy and playing hot at the perfect time. But it’s worth looking back on their full body of work before rating each phase of the game, so here are our thoughts on the Saints offense, defense, and special teams units at midseason.

Rockets account for 30% of NBA’s highest-rated games this season

Led by a pair of All-Stars and recent MVPs in James Harden and Russell Westbrook, Houston seems to capture lots of television interest.

Led by an All-Star backcourt of recent MVPs James Harden and Russell Westbrook, the Houston Rockets were certainly among the NBA’s most intriguing franchises in the 2019-20 season.

It clearly showed up in the local and national television ratings, too.

Digital content company Sportico recently analyzed the league’s 20 most-watched games of the season, heading into the NBA Finals. Of those 20 contests, six (or 30%) featured the Houston Rockets.

Only the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers, who are now three wins from the 2020 NBA title, had more than the Rockets.

Here are the teams who appeared on the list three or more times:

Lakers: 11
Rockets: 6
Celtics: 5
Heat: 4
Nuggets 4:
Clippers: 3

In fairness, facing the Lakers in the playoffs certainly accounted for some of the lofty ratings by the Rockets. Of Houston’s six games in the Top 20 list, four came from that second-round series against the Lakers.

However, Houston’s top-rated matchup — and No. 2 overall on the list — actually came in a regular-season game versus the Warriors on Christmas Day. That was the only appearance on the list by Golden State, which suggests that they weren’t the primary draw for national viewers.

In the postseason, even though the Denver Nuggets faced the Lakers in a later round, Game 2 of the Rockets-Lakers series remained the No. 1 game of the entire Western Conference playoffs by TV rating.

Game 7 of the first-round series between the Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder was also a big ratings hit. Not only was it by far the highest-rated game of that round, but it came in No. 11 overall among all 2020 playoff games (before the NBA Finals). Even compared to the six combined series and 35 playoff games played after the Rockets-Thunder Game 7, it would still place in the top-third from a ratings perspective.

Those data points are all from nationally televised broadcasts, of course, on networks such as ESPN, ABC, and TNT. But the same trend appears to have held up locally. While local television ratings for most NBA teams were down this season, the Rockets saw an increase on AT&T SportsNet Southwest. That data was released in late February, just prior to the 2019-20 season’s extended hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For better or for worse, it certainly seems to suggest that Harden and Westbrook’s Rockets are among the NBA’s most compelling teams.
