Latest AP Poll still has Crimson Tide outside of the top 10

Crimson Tide move up in Week 6 AP Poll after a dominant victory over Mississippi State Bulldogs

If the past two games are any indication of how Alabama football will play the rest of the season, this Crimson Tide team could very well contend for an SEC title and College Football Playoff berth. Jalen Milroe has put the quarterback controversy to rest after back-to-back wins over Ole Miss and Mississippi State where he has looked much better as a passer and been special as a runner.

Alabama travels to College Station this weekend in a sneaky difficult game against the Texas A&M Aggies. The last time the Tide traveled to College Station in 2021 they were upset by Jimbo Fisher’s squad in a hostile night game environment. The Aggies are coming off of massive back-to-back wins in the SEC West against Auburn and Arkansas.

It won’t be a Top 25 matchup, however, as the Aggies sit just outside of the Top 25 in the Week 6 AP Poll. The Crimson Tide moved up a spot again this week to No. 11 as they jumped the Utah Utes who lost to the Oregon State Beavers. The top five had no movement with Georgia, Michigan, Texas, Ohio State and Florida State each holding firm.

College Gameday headed to Austin, TX for second time this year

Texas hosts second College GameDay of the year against undefeated TCU

The Texas Longhorns will host College GameDay this weekend for the second time during the 2022 season.

Texas hosted College GameDay earlier in the year when the Alabama Crimson Tide came to town in Week 3. Despite entering the game as a large favorite, Texas gave the Tide everything they could handle, but ultimately Alabama walked away victorious 20-19.

This time, the Longhorns host the undefeated TCU Horned Frogs, a team that still has college football playoff aspirations. The Horned Frogs enter the game ranked No. 4 in the country, according to the College Football Playoff committee

Alabama is more than likely out of the playoff race so the game doesn’t have a ton of meaning to the Tide faithful. However, it would be fun to see former Alabama offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisian, pull off a massive top-five victory.

Alabama vs. Austin Peay kick off time announced

SEC Network announced kick off time for Alabama vs. Austin Peay

At 7-2 on the year, the Crimson Tide has only three remaining games before bowl season as the team will likely not be in the SEC championship game. Alabama suffered an unfortunate loss this past Saturday to the LSU Tigers that probably ended their playoff dreams, however, there is still much to play for.

The Tide will travel to No. 11 Ole Miss this weekend before hosting the final two games of the season in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The first of the two home games will be against Austin Peay, and the game time was announced today. The Tide and Austin Peay will face off at 11 a.m. CST on the SEC Network.

The Tide will finish the season hosting the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl.

Notre Dame back to getting votes in latest USA TODAY AFCA Coaches Poll

The Irish aren’t far from being ranked again

The Irish got one of their biggest wins of the season yesterday, defeating Syracuse and subsequently getting some votes in this weeks USA TODAY AFCA Coaches Poll. The eleven votes put Notre Dame as No. 33 team in the country. The top 8 of the poll remained the same, with a good amount of movement behind that.

Just a few upsets over the weekend which included former No. 22 Kansas State routing former No. 9 Oklahoma State, unranked UCF defeating former No. 19 Cincinnati, unranked Missouri beating former No. 25 South Carolina and obviously Notre Dame’s win over former No. 16 Syracuse

Find out below where each team inside the top 25 was ranked this week, with last weeks ranking in parenthesis.

College football’s definitive 10 best helmets

There are no other answers. These are the 10 best helmets in college football.

What is the best helmet in all of college football?

If you ask that question to a dozen college football fans and of course they’ll answer with their favorite team and then proceed to name the likes of Notre Dame, Michigan, and Alabama probably before too long.

Great debates were being had on my Twitter feed Thursday morning so I decided to go back into the vault and reexamine my top 10 helmet list that I originally put together during the pandemic.

But sometimes tastes change and things grow stale or old.  With that in mind here are the definitive 10 best helmets in college football.

But first, let’s start with a couple that often gets love but should never be considered among the best for reasons we’ll quickly examine.

Alabama Women’s Soccer ranked No. 2 in latest poll

Alabama women’s soccer dominating the SEC, ranked No. 2 in the country

The Alabama women’s soccer team is taking the country by storm as they have now reached the No. 2 ranking in the most recent polls. The team is off to a stellar start outscoring their opponents 46-9.

The Tide has had an outstanding start to the season at 13-1-1, with the only loss coming to the Miami Hurricanes on the road. As for SEC play, the women are in a good position as they have raced out to a 6-0 conference start with big wins over LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and others.

The Tide were barely over .500 in 2021, so to see such a quick turnaround should excite all Alabama fans. The Tide take on No. 7 Arkansas on Sunday in Tuscaloosa in what will be the team’s biggest test of the season. A win could even catapult the Tide into the top spot.

Experts make their picks for Alabama vs. Vanderbilt in Week 4

Alabama vs. Vanderbilt broken down by the experts

The reigning SEC Champions, Alabama Crimson Tide, begin conference play this week when they host the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Tide opened as massive (40.5) point favorites, and for good reason. The Commodores have lost the last 21 games they have played in the conference, although they look slightly improved this year with a 3-1 record, and their only loss coming to a ranked Wake Forest.

The last time these two teams met was back in 2017 when the Tide traveled to Nashville to take on a ranked and undefeated Vanderbilt side. Alabama walked away victorious by a narrow margin of 59-0.

Alabama still has a lot of things they need to fix, especially offensively, so it’s important they get a few things ironed out this week before they head into the meat of their schedule.

Here are how the experts see things going down in Tuscaloosa this weekend.

Saints rookies share initial jersey numbers; ranking them from first to worst

The New Orleans Saints shared the initial jersey numbers for their 2021 NFL draft class, but which rookies made the best and worst choices?

The New Orleans Saints selected six rookies in the 2021 NFL draft, and the new additions have already chosen their initial jersey numbers. I’ve couched that for a good reason; some of these numbers are likely to change between now and Week 1’s kickoff as veteran players are released or traded, or simply choose to change jersey numbers now that the NFL has relaxed the rules on who can wear which digits (Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, for example, has set his eyes on No. 1). Last year, Zack Baun tried three different numbers during the summer until settling at No. 53.

But which Saints draft picks have made the best choices? After, all everyone knows that the number you wear is the greatest predictor of NFL success. Totally. For sure. Here’s my quick ranking of each rookie’s first choice:

Which players should be in the Saints’ cloud at the 28th pick?

The New Orleans Saints are known for building a cloud of prospects at each pick in the draft, and they have plenty of options in 2021.

There’s no consensus on what the New Orleans Saints will do with their first-round pick as the 2021 NFL draft quickly approaches. Unprecedented salary cap constraints precluded them from retaining key talent; those vacant roster spots are now glaring positions of need. And there are so many holes that everyone has a different take on where to start first.

New Orleans may have eyes on an early target, but it’s about finding the best player available for the Saints — not best player on the board or at a position of need. It’s a tough balancing act, but New Orleans is particularly adept at striking it. The main factors are prototype guidelines per position with exceptions for special traits, football intelligence, and character.

A look back at the team’s 2020 draft might help forecast this year’s strategy. The loss of minicamps and preseason games saw New Orleans hone in on mentally sharp rookies, valuing quality over quantity; they can’t fully ignore positional need, but shouldn’t . Particularly with sparse film, if any, from the 2020 season; just as last year, they are hindered by the loss of the scouting combine to assess certain measurables.

Weighing this all together, the positional needs rank as follows: cornerback, linebacker, and wide receiver. How players rank within those positions will be the deciding factor at No. 28 (unless the Saints choose to trade up, of course). Let’s survey players in the Saints first-round cloud and rank prospects accordingly. To get an idea of who may be available, I ran 20 mock draft simulators on several sites, tallying each prospect’s availability below. And then I filtered our options down even further.

Cornerback

  • Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech (9)
  • Greg Newsome, Northwestern (6)

Linebacker

  • Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Notre Dame (3)
  • Zaven Collins, Tulsa (9)
  • Jabril Cox, LSU (20)

Wide Receiver

  • Terrace Marshall Jr., Purdue (17)
  • Rondale Moore, Purdue (17)
  • Elijah Moore, Mississippi (17)
  • Kadarius Toney, Florida (16)

Wild Cards:

  • S Trevon Moehrig, TCU (8)
  • RB Travis Ettienne, Clemson (14)
  • OT Teven Jenkins (13)
