Where’s Alabama in the updated Week 12 College Football Playoff Rankings

Alabama rises to No. 8 in most recent CFP rankings

The Alabama Crimson Tide has been ranked No. 8 in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings. Last week the Tide was No. 9, so one spot better after jumping the Oregon Ducks after their rivalry loss against the Washington Huskies.

The Tide will take on Austin Peay and Auburn in Tuscaloosa to close out the regular season. Alabama’s chances to make the SEC championship game were destroyed last weekend when the LSU Tigers locked up the West with a win over Arkansas. Getting eliminated from SEC title contention ended the Tide’s last path to the playoffs.

With three SEC schools above Alabama in the top six, their path doesn’t look very open, however, the committee still thinks highly of them to be ranked over one-loss Clemson.

Georgia remains at No. 1, Tennessee at No. 5 and LSU at No. 6

Alabama somehow remains on top in latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

See where Alabama and other College Football Playoff contenders rank in the latest Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Alabama nearly suffered a loss on the road against the Texas Longhorns in a nail-biter in Week 2. Instead, Bryce Young flexed his nerves of steel and led the Crimson Tide to a game-winning drive that ended in a field goal by Will Reichard.

Though Alabama remains undefeated heading into Week 3 against Louisiana-Monroe, the one-point win was just enough to have the team hold on to the top spot.

Plenty of changes can be found all around the latest poll, and there will surely be more as the weeks go by and the field of contenders begins to level out.

Javonte Williams ranked as NFL’s 3rd-best running back

Touchdown Wire ranked Broncos rising star Javonte Williams as the third-best running back in the NFL.

The Denver Broncos have one of the best running backs in the NFL.

That’s according to Touchdown Wire’s Doug Fararr, who recently released his list of the league’s top 11 running backs ahead of the 2022 season. Fararr has Javonte Williams ranked third, only trailing Jonathan Taylor and Nick Chubb.

Here is part of Fararr’s commentary with Williams’ ranking:

Williams should continue to be part of that dangerous rotation in Denver, and the Broncos will see fewer loaded boxes with Russell Wilson at quarterback than they did with Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater in that position. Committee or not, all signs point to a breakout season for a back who has already broken out about as much as he could in his rookie season.

Splitting carries with Melvin Gordon last season, Williams totaled 1,219 yards from scrimmage and scored seven touchdowns in Year 1. Fans and pundits are now expecting even bigger numbers in Year 2.

Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson ranked as NFL’s 8th-best QB

Touchdown Wire considers Russell Wilson a top-10 QB ahead of the 2022 season.

Touchdown Wire’s Mark Schofield recently released his list of the top 12 quarterbacks in the NFL and Denver Broncos signal-caller Russell Wilson cracked the top 10, ranked No. 8 ahead of the 2022 season.

Here’s part of Schofield’s commentary with Wilson’s rank:

Wilson remains one of the more effective deep-ball passers in the NFL. While his ACP last season on throws over 20 yards was 40.0% — ranking him 24th among qualified passers — he completed 29 of 75 such attempts for 1,090 yards (third-most in the league) and nine touchdowns, along with just a pair of interceptions. …

Wilson is still one of the game’s best, and his presence in Denver has Broncos fans thinking about the Super Bowl.

Elsewhere in the AFC West, Patrick Mahomes is ranked No. 1, Justin Herbert is ranked No. 5 and Derek Carr is ranked No. 12. The division arguably has the best group of quarterbacks in the league.

Poll of NFL insiders ranks Aaron Rodgers as league’s No. 1 quarterback

Packers’ Aaron Rodgers is the NFL’s No. 1 quarterback according to a polling of league insiders.

The NFL’s back-to-back MVP is considered the top player at the game’s most important position by a majority of those inside the league.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was ranked the No. 1 quarterback in the NFL in a poll of over 50 league executives, coaches and players by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Rodgers beat out Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Tom Brady, who all received first-place votes.

The Associated Press voted Rodgers the NFL MVP after both the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Last season, Rodgers threw 37 touchdown passes and only four interceptions.  The year before, he threw 48 touchdown passes and five interceptions. Each season, he led the NFL in passer rating.

Overall, Rodgers has completed 69.8 percent of his passes, averaged 8.0 yards per attempt, thrown 85 touchdown passes and nine interceptions and finished with a passer rating of 116.7 since 2020.

The same ESPN poll ranked Rodgers as the No. 2 overall quarterback last season.

Rodgers, now a four-time NFL MVP, turns 39 years old in December.

Saints schedule ranked among 10 toughest based on projected win totals

The New Orleans Saints have one of the toughest 2021 strength of schedules based off of projected win totals, but they’ll be ready for it.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbyahgz6p2j3xp7 player_id=none image=https://saintswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The NFL is preparing to put on a show for its 2021 schedule release in prime time on Wednesday night, but the New Orleans Saints already know their opponents. And it’s a tough slate: seven of their 17 games will be played against 2020 playoff teams, including two divisional matchups with the Super Bowl champion Buccaneers (plus tilts with the Bills, Titans, Packers, Seahawks, and Washington). And four of those games will be played away from the Superdome.

Pro Football Network crunched the numbers and found that the Saints are tied with Washington for the seventh-toughest strength of schedule in 2021. But New Orleans is well equipped for the challenge. Of the teams ranked within the top ten, only the Rams (tied for ninth) are projected to win more games than the Saints.

BetMGM has the Saints with nine projected wins, which places well amongst their peers. It’s worth remembering that while the Saints do have a challenging schedule ahead of them, they’ll be a tough out for every other team they face, too.

Ranking all 6 active Alabama RBs in the NFL

Alabama continues to produce high level NFL talent. With six active running backs in the league, how do they rank? AJ Spurr breaks it down.

Nick Saban has produced plenty of talent that has translated well in the NFL. Whether it be offensive studs or defensive stars, the Crimson Tide is well represented.

Some positions receive more of the spotlight, those usually belong to the offensive side of the ball.

Quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs are all positional groups that college programs will try to claim.

Is Alabama “WRU,” or “RBU”? That’s up for debate. However, what can be agreed upon is that there are very good running backs in the league that have come out of Tuscaloosa.

Out of all six of the Crimson Tide running backs in the NFL, here’s how they rank:
