2020 MLB Futures Odds: How many games will the Texas Rangers win?

Looking at 2020 MLB futures odds for how many games the Texas Rangers will win in the 60-game MLB season.

How many games will the Texas Rangers win in the 60-game 2020 MLB season? We look at the Rangers MLB futures odds, including their projected 2020 win total and Over/Under odds at BetMGM, and make our best bet.

Texas Rangers’ 2019 recap

The Rangers finished below .500 for the third year in a row in 2019. They were 78-84 at season’s end, for third place in the American League West.

They went 33-43 against their divisional opponents. As disappointing as their regular-season record was, they did go 86-76 against the spread in 2019. The pitching staff was a huge issue last season, having no depth in the rotation beyond Mike Minor and Lance Lynn.

Texas Rangers’ offseason

Texas recognized its weakness in the rotation and tried to fix the situation this offseason. The Rangers acquired SP Cory Kluber from the Cleveland Indians, signed SP Kyle Gibson and also added SP Jordan Lyles in free agency.

They also addressed their hole at third base by signing 3B Todd Frazier. At first base, they acquired Sam Travis from the Boston Red Sox in a trade.

Texas Rangers’ 2020 schedule

The Rangers begin their 2020 season July 24 against the Colorado Rockies, the start of a 60-game campaign against the AL West and National League West. They’ll play 40 games against their own division and 20 against their interleague counterpart.

The season will end Sept. 27 with the Rangers’ final series of the season coming against the rival Houston Astros.

How many games will the Texas Rangers win in 2020?

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday, July 10 at 9 a.m. ET.

The Rangers’ projected win total is 29.5, so the oddsmakers see them finishing right around .500. They haven’t had a record better than .500 since 2016 when they went 95-67.

This is a tough bet to make because the rotation should be improved, but the lineup still doesn’t look that great. Not to mention, the AL West will be highly competitive with the Astros and Oakland Athletics also in the hunt.

I’d bet the UNDER (-110) simply because of the schedule and the lack of consistency in the starting lineup.

Texas Rangers’ World Series odds

The Rangers’ World Series odds are long, sitting at +8000. It’s hard to see them making the playoffs, let alone pushing deep into the postseason with a run at the World Series.

They’re not worth a bet to win it all this October. PASS.

Texas Rangers’ playoff odds

The Rangers are +600 to make the playoffs and -910 to miss them. The Astros and Athletics both figure to be in the postseason race to the end, which makes the chances of Texas reaching the playoffs lower.

With their low probability to make the postseason and the limited reward of betting on them to miss the playoffs, I’d PASS on both sides.

Washington Capitals at New York Rangers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Washington Capitals at New York Rangers sports betting odds, picks and best bets

The Washington Capitals (40-20-6) take on the New York Rangers (35-27-4) at Madison Square Garden on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Capitals-Rangers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Capitals at Rangers: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Samsonov vs. Henrik Lundqvist

The rookie Samsonov is confirmed to start at Madison Square Garden, putting his 16-6-1 records, 2.40 goals against average and .917 save percentage on the line. This will be his first career matchup against the Blueshirts.

King Henrik is projected to make the start after Alexandar Georgiev made the start last time out. Lundqvist is 10-12-3 with a 3.19 GAA and .904 SV% across his 26 starts and 29 appearances. He is 1-1-0 with a 2.54 GAA And .922 SV% in his two assignments against the Caps this season.

Capitals at Rangers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10:10 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Capitals 3, Rangers 2

Moneyline (ML)

The CAPITALS (-143) are a solid play on the road against the Rangers (+120), even though they just played yesterday. Plus, the Caps are 6-2 in their past eight games in the second end of a back-to-back situation. The Rangers have been hot, going 9-4 in the past 13, but they’re also 7-19 in the past 26 against teams with a winning percentage over .600.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Caps to grab the road win returns a profit of $7.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The puck line isn’t a great play, even though the Capitals (-1.5, +170) are awfully tempting at this price. If you were to play a small-unit bet, the Caps are definitely the way to go as opposed to the Rangers (+1.5, -209). The best play is to AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 6.5 (-154) is a slam-dunk play even though the Caps games have been going Over the projected total recently. The Over is 4-1 in Washington’s past five, although the Under is 5-1 in their past six on the road. The Under is also 5-1 in the past six at MSG for the Rangers. The Under is also 5-1-1 in the past seven meetings in New York.

St. Louis Blues at New York Rangers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s St. Louis Blues at New York Rangers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Rangers (35-26-4) host the St. Louis Blues (39-17-10) Tuesday at Madison Square Garden at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Blues-Rangers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Blues at Rangers: Projected starting goalies

Jordan Binnington vs. Alexandar Georgiev

Binnington puts his 29-11-7 record, 2.60 goals against average and .910 save percentage on the line against the Blueshirts. While he has been strong at home with a 20-4-5 record, 2.21 GAA and .918 SV% in 29 home games, he has a 9-7-2 record, 3.22 GAA and .900 SV% with no shutouts in 18 assignments on the road.

Georgiev will start against the champs, and he has a 16-13-1 record, 3.02 GAA and .912 SV% in his 29 starts and two relief appearances. He is a solid 4-3-0 with a 2.74 GAA and .920 SV% in seven starts and eight appearances since the All-Star break.

Blues at Rangers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 12:05 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Rangers 4, Blues 3

Moneyline (ML)

The Blues (-154) are moderate favorites on the road as they look for their eighth consecutive victory. Most of that damage has been done at home, as they’re just 3-9 in their past 12 on the road. The RANGERS (+125) are short dogs at home, and the value play, based on the Blues’ road struggles, the fact they’re due for a loss and the trends in this series. The home team is 5-2 in the previous seven meetings.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rangers to win returns a profit of $12.50, while a $10 wager on the Blues results in a profit of $6.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The RANGERS (+1.5, -209) are rather expensive, but if you want a little insurance, you have to pay. The Blues (-1.5, +170) have been red-hot and might be tempting, but the public is all over the visitors, and that’s usually a bad sign.

Over/Under (O/U)

I’ll take a flier on the OVER 5.5 (-139). The Over is 7-3-1 in the past 11 on the road for the Blues, too, and 6-2 in the past eight against the Eastern Conference while going 9-4-1 in the past 14 against winning sides. The Over is 4-0 in New York’s past four, 11-4 in the past 15 versus the Western Conference and 13-3-1 in the past 17 against winning teams.

New York Rangers at New York Islanders odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s New York Rangers at New York Islanders sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Rangers (33-24-4) and rival New York Islanders (35-20-6) will tangle Tuesday at Nassau Coliseum at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Rangers-Islanders sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Rangers at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Alexandar Georgiev vs. Semyon Varlamov

Georgiev went from being a name dangled at the NHL trade deadline, to suddenly a very valuable member of what is a two-goalie rotation once again. Promising rookie Igor Shesterkin suffered a non-displaced rib fracture which will send him to the shelf for at least a couple of weeks. Georgiev is 14-12-1 with a 2.98 goals against average and .912 save percentage through his 26 starts and two relief appearances.

Varlamov is 19-12-4 with a 2.47 GAA and .920 SV% through 35 starts and 40 appearances. The backstop has struggled against the Blueshirts this season, going 0-2-0 with a 4.92 GAA and .857 SV% in two starts. Perhaps Thomas Greiss gets a look. He is 16-8-2 with a 2.65 GAA and .916 SV% overall this season, winning his only start against the Rangers Jan. 13 at MSG with two goals allowed on 42 shots.

Place a sports bet on this hockey action or other games at BetMGM.

Rangers at Islanders: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10:40 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Rangers 4, Islanders 3

Moneyline (ML)

The RANGERS (+115) are worth a look on the moneyline in this key rivalry game, even on the road. Even though the Islanders (-139) added some key parts at the deadline, and the Rangers parted with the likes of D Brady Skjei, the Rangers should be able to rally around the injury to Shesterkin and F Pavel Buchnevich, who was also in the car wreck.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rangers to win returns a profit of $11.50, while a $10 wager on the Islanders results in a profit of $7.20.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The puck line can be avoided when picking the underdog to win outright. The Rangers (+1.5, -208) will cost you a stake of more than two times your return. That’s unacceptable. The Islanders (-1.5, +170) are the value at home on the puck line if you’re backing them. I’m not, PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-134) is an impressive 10-3-1 in the past 14 for the Rangers against winning teams, and 9-4-1 in the past 14 as a road dog.  The Islanders have posted a 5-2 Over/Under mark in their past seven games at home, and the Over is 7-3 in their past 10 as a favorite, too. For what it’s worth, the Over is 9-1-1 in their past 11 appearances on a Tuesday.

San Jose Sharks at New York Rangers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s San Jose Sharks at New York Rangers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Rangers (32-24-4) host the San Jose Sharks (26-30-4) Saturday at Madison Square Garden at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Sharks-Rangers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Sharks at Rangers: Projected starting goalies

Aaron Dell vs. Henrik Lundqvist

Dell is 12-12-2 with a 2.89 goals against average and .909 save percentage overall. Dell has won three of his past five starts, and eight of his past 14. He has struggled a bit lately, coughing up 12 goals in his previous three starts, and he has dropped each of his past two outings against Eastern Conference teams.

King Henrik is expected to make the start after rookie Igor Shesterkin picked up a 5-2 road win over the Carolina Hurricanes Friday night. Lundqvist has been much better at home, going 8-4-1 with a 2.93 GAA and .9167 SV%, while he is 2-7-2 with a 3.32 GAA and .897 SV% on the road. He has struggled against Western Conference teams, going 3-7-1 in his 11 starts and 13 appearances.

Place a sports bet on this hockey action or other games at BetMGM.

Sharks at Rangers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Rangers 4, Sharks 2

Moneyline (ML)

The RANGERS (-167) pulled off the 5-2 road win in Carolina, cashing as +155 underdogs. Now, they have a quick turnaround, traveling from snowy Raleigh to New York to battle the Sharks (+135).

San Jose has dropped two straight games, including its first game on the Metro NYC road trip in New Jersey, 2-1, Thursday. The Sharks are starting to sell off assets heading into Monday’s trade deadline, as D Brenden Dillon has already been jettisoned. Expect more to follow. Morale is at a low for the Sharks, and the Rangers will squash them at MSG.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rangers to win returns a profit of $6, while a $10 wager on the Sharks results in a profit of $13.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The RANGERS (-1.5, +155) are worth a roll of the dice on home ice behind King Henrik. New York is on a roll, and the Rangers are 6-2 in the past eight in the second end of a back-to-back situation, while cashing in four of the past five following a straight-up win.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the UNDER 6.5 (-150), even though the juice is a little high for my liking. If you foresee a lower-scoring game, the UNDER 5.5 (+140) alternative line might be attractive to you. I don’t think this will be a defensive slog, however, and a total of six goals looks good. In fact, a total of six goals (regular time) would cash +375 if my prediction of six total goals connects.

New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Rangers at Hurricanes NHL matchup, with NHL betting odds, picks and best bets

The New York Rangers (31-24-4) head south to meet the Carolina Hurricanes (34-21-4) Friday at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Rangers-Hurricanes sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Rangers at Hurricanes: Projected starting goalies

Henrik Lundqvist vs. James Reimer

The Rangers’ three-headed goaltender logjam is likely to be busted up in the coming days with the NHL trade deadline. It’s hard to believe King Henrik could be moved, but you never know. Lundqvist is 10-11-3 with a 3.12 goals-against average and .907 save percentage. He has been a thorn in the side of Carolina all season, going 3-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and .947 SV% against the Hurricanes. That includes an impressive 45-save performance in the second game of a back-to-back in this very building.

With Petr Mrazek going 0-2-0 with a 3.10 GAA and .860 SV% in his two starts against the Rangers, it’s fair to expect head coach Rod Brind’Amour to see what Reimer can do against the Blueshirts. Reimer is 4-2-2 with a 2.56 GAA and .914 SV% in eight starts at home.

Rangers at Hurricanes: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated Friday at 12:45 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Rangers 3, Hurricanes 2

Moneyline (ML)

The RANGERS (+135) have been kryptonite to the Hurricanes (-162), and New York is the value play on the road in snowy Raleigh (no, really!). The Rangers have won six straight overall on the road, and they’re 40-14 in the past 54 meetings overall in this series — including 4-1 in the past five trips to North Carolina.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rangers to win returns a profit of $13.50, while a $10 wager on the Hurricanes results in a profit of $6.17.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Rangers (+1.5, -189) aren’t worth this kind of juice if you feel the need for insurance. Just roll with the Blueshirts on the moneyline. If you are on the Hurricanes (-1.5, +155), feeling they’ll avoid the four-game regular-season sweep at the hands of the Rangers, they’re a much better value here.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (+125) is where it’s at, cashing in four of the past five meetings in this series. The under is also 5-2 in the past seven overall for the Rangers, while going 7-1-1 in the past nine against Eastern Conference foes. While the over is 7-2 in Carolina’s past nine overall, and 4-0 in the past four at home, look for the under to cash in Raleigh based on Rangers and series trends.

New York Rangers at Winnipeg Jets odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s New York Rangers at Winnipeg Jets sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Rangers (27-23-4) and Winnipeg Jets (29-23-5) will mix it up at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday. We analyze the Rangers-Jets sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Rangers at Jets: Projected starting goalies

Igor Shesterkin vs. Connor Hellebuyck

The rookie Shesterkin is confirmed to make his first NHL road start after going 5-1-0 with a 2.34 goals against average and .933 save percentage in his first six outings at home. This will be his biggest test yet against a red-hot offense and an All-Star goaltender at the other end.

Hellebuyck has posted a 24-16-5 record with a 2.67 GAA and .920 SV% with four shutouts to date. He’ll be tasked with ruining the return to Winnipeg of Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba, who was traded to New York in the offseason. Hellebuyck didn’t have much success in the first head-to-head meeting at Madison Square Garden in the Oct. 3 season opener, as Trouba had a season-high three points in the 6-4 win by the Rangers.

Prediction

Jets 5, Rangers 3

Moneyline (ML)

The JETS (-134) are favorites at home against the Rangers (+110), as they look for revenge after their loss in the first meeting at MSG. Winnipeg’s offense has been on fire lately, averaging 4.0 goals per game across the past five outings while going 4-1 straight up.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Jets to grab the road win returns a profit of $7.50, while a $10 wager on the Rangers results in a profit of $11.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The JETS (-1.5, +190) are worth a look at almost double money, as they’re rolling right along. The Rangers (+1.5, -239) are too risky and not worth a play if you’re looking for a little insurance on the road. While the road team is 9-4 in the past 13 meetings, the favorite has connected in each of the past four outings.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6.5 (+125) is a value play at this price level, especially since the Jets have been lighting up the scoreboard. The first battle in this series easily went Over, and this one will, too.

Los Angeles Kings at New York Rangers odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing Sunday’s Los Angeles Kings at New York Rangers NHL matchup, with NHL betting odds, picks and best bets

The Los Angeles Kings (19-32-5) and New York Rangers (26-23-4) square off at Madison Square Garden at 6 p.m. ET. We analyze the Kings-Rangers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Kings at Rangers: Projected starting goalies

Jonathan Quick vs. Igor Shesterkin

Quick is expected to be back in the crease after yielding to Cal Petersen in New Jersey Saturday night. The American veteran is 11-21-3 with a 3.05 goals-against average and .894 save percentage. One of those wins came against the Blueshirts in Staples Center in the first meeting back on Dec. 10, allowing just one goal on 30 shots.

Shesterkin is confirmed to make the start Sunday. He continues to hum along, going 4-1-0 with a 2.61 GAA and .922 save percentage in his five outings, all at home. It appears he is set up to continue his success, as the Kings are on the second end of a back-to-back on the road and they limp in with a minus-43 goal differential, 30th in the NHL.

Prediction

Rangers 4, Kings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Rangers (-189) are favored by the exact same line as the Islanders were against the Kings (+155) a few days ago. L.A. fell 5-3 in that one, 3-0 last night in New Jersey and they’ll end up getting swept in the New York Metro area after this one. Still, you can’t risk nearly two times your investment. AVOID.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rangers to win returns a profit of $5.30, while a $10 wager on the Kings results in a profit of $15.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The RANGERS (-1.5, +145) are much better value laying the goals, as Quick has been extremely giving. Yes, the Kings were able to come up with a rare win in the first meeting, but the home team is 4-1 in the past five in this series, with the favorite also 4-1.

If you’re into alternate bets, look to the Rangers (-2.5, +260) for a small investment and solid value.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-154) will have you eating a lot of chalk, but it’s a worthwhile play. The over is 15-6-2 in the past 23 games overall for the Rangers, while going 9-3-1 in their past 13 at MSG. The over is also 9-1 in their past 10 against Western Conference foes. The over is 4-1 in the previous five meetings, and 4-1 in the past five in NYC, too.
