Former Wildcat Quandre Mosely was cut by the Carolina Panthers

Cornerback and former Wildcat Quandre Mosely was cut by the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday.

It’s a tough weekend for a lot of NFL players, as every team had to get their rosters down to 53 players. Josh Ali was an early cut of the Atlanta Falcons, and now the Carolina Panthers have released former Wildcat cornerback Quandre Mosely.

Mosely spent three seasons at Kentucky, from 2019 to 2021. During that time, he recorded 69 tackles, a sack, and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

After he left Lexington, Mosely went undrafted, but signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys. He also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, and most recently, the Carolina Panthers.

On Tuesday, the Panthers announced him as one of the team’s cuts as they get down to the roster limit. He’ll now look at to catch on with another team, possibly as a practice squad player while he continues to try an prove himself. Big Blue Nation wishes him good luck in whatever comes next.

Panthers sign 5 players on Monday

The Panthers made a handful of moves on Monday.

The Carolina Panthers were quite busy on Monday.

As announced late this afternoon, the team has signed five players as they enter the final week of the 2024 preseason. Amongst the additions are cornerbacks Chris Wilcox and Quandre Mosely—both of whom worked out for the Panthers today.

Wilcox was a seventh-round selection of the NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. The Brigham Young University product—who has also picked up stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers—has yet to appear in a regular-season contest.

The same can be said for Mosely, who has bounced around the league since signing as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2022. Along with Dallas, the 25-year-old has made stops in Seattle, Tampa Bay and New England.

Both are joined by running back Jaden Shirden, wide receiver Sam Pinckney and cornerback Willie Drew—all undrafted rookies who have already spent time with the Panthers this offseason.

To make room for the signees, the Panthers placed cornerback Anthony Brown and quarterback Jake Luton on injured reserve, waived/injured cornerback Lamar Jackson and wide receiver Tayvion Robinson and waived running back Dillon Johnson.

Patriots reportedly cutting CB Quandre Mosely

The Patriots have reportedly cut Quandre Mosely.

The New England Patriots are starting their roster cuts ahead of Tuesday’s 53-man deadline. Per the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed, second-year cornerback Quandre Mosely is one of the early players to bite the dust in New England.

The Patriots signed Mosely in late December last year, before agreeing on a reserve/future contract in January.

It was always going to be an uphill battle for the former University of Kentucky defensive back. He has yet to take an on-field snap, despite spending the 2022 season on four different practice squads.

The Patriots are pretty locked in at cornerback with rookie first-round draft pick Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones, Jack Jones and Marcus Jones. They also added Isaiah Bolden and Ameer Speed in the 2023 NFL draft.

The writing was already on the wall for Mosely, who will either find another opportunity elsewhere or return to New England’s practice squad.

34 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 34 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 34 jersey number

The New England Patriots are officially 34 days away from their 2023 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. So we’re continuing our countdown series by listing every Patriots player that has ever worn a No. 34 jersey.

It’s hard not to think of some of the standout running backs, particularly in the Bill Belichick coaching era, when it comes to Patriots players and the No. 34.

Rex Burkhead was the one that powered his way into the end zone in the 2018 AFC Championship Game to deliver the dagger to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. Shane Vereen had a team-high 11 receptions for the Patriots to help knock off the Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl XLIX.

And Sammy Morris plowed for 727 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games to contribute to an 11-win season without Tom Brady at quarterback in 2008.

Let’s take a look at every Patriots player throughout franchise history that has worn the No. 34 (via Pro Football Reference).

Patriots Day 1 minicamp attendance: Who sat out on Monday?

Here are the Patriots players that missed Day 1 of mandatory minicamp

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

The first day of mandatory minicamp kick-started for the New England Patriots on Monday, and there were some key absences on the football field.

Receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster, who missed all of OTAs, still isn’t practicing. When speaking with the media, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Smith-Schuster was day-to-day. Second-year wideout Tyquan Thornton was also missing in action.

The team announced they were waiving running back James Robinson and veteran corner Tae Hayes. So that explains both of their absences from practice.

However, perhaps the biggest story of the day was ESPN’s Mike Reiss’ report that defensive tackle Lawrence Guy is believed to be holding out for contract reasons. There’s a possibility of him racking up nearly $100,000 in fines if he sits out all three practices.

Meanwhile, offensive tackle Trent Brown was reportedly out due to travel issues. Here’s the full list of players that missed the start of Patriots minicamp.

  • WR JuJu Smith-Schuster
  • OT Trent Brown
  • G Michael Onwenu
  • DT Lawrence Guy
  • WR Tyquan Thornton
  • WR Kayshon Boutte
  • RB James Robinson
  • CB Tae Hayes
  • CB Quandre Mosely

Mandatory minicamp is slated to run through Wednesday, and then the team will break until late July, before returning for training camp.

Patriots make an addition to practice squad on Monday

The Patriots made an addition to the practice squad on Monday.

The New England Patriots made a move to beef up their defensive backfield by signing rookie undrafted free agent Quandre Mosely to the practice squad.

The Patriots announced the news on Monday.

Mosely, who has bounced around from the Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks, will be looking to find traction on his fourth team in the same year.

During his time at the University of Kentucky, he compiled 69 tackles, one sack, 10 pass deflections and three interceptions.

The competition has been scrappy on the backend of the defense with even rookies like fourth-round draft pick Jack Jones stepping up and playing a big role for the Patriots. Marcus Jones has also seen work on the backend as well.

But opportunity is knocking for Mosely, who will have an opportunity to prove himself in practice as worthy of being the one chosen for the inevitable call-up by coach Bill Belichick.
