After claiming the cornerback off waivers two weeks ago, the Baltimore Ravens are waiving Tae Hayes ahead of the 4:00 PM deadline.

The 25-year-old Hayes has 16 career tackles playing cornerback and special teams.

Undrafted in 2019 out of Appalachian State, Hayes was signed by the Dolphins as a rookie and played in four games over two seasons.

Hayes also appeared in one game with the Vikings in 2020.

Lions vs Giants: Best and worst PFF grades from Detroit’s preseason win

Here are the standout performances from this week’s best and worst PFF performers for the Detroit Lions against the New York Giants.

The Detroit Lions kicked off their season with a 21-16 victory over the New York Giants in their first preseason game. Despite many of the team’s key players sitting out, the Lions’ management was able to evaluate potential roster candidates.

The game started off slowly, with the offense struggling, but the defense saved the day by repeatedly stepping up to the challenge and shutting down their opponents. Although some areas showed promise, others may require further evaluation by the Lions’ management.

Here are the standout performances from this week’s best and worst Pro Footbal Focus (PFF) performers, highlighting those who impressed and those who fell short in their bid for a coveted roster spot.

Lions waive CB Tae Hayes after preseason opener

The Lions have waived CB Tae Hayes after one week on the team

One of the downsides of preseason action is that it’s the end of the line for some players. That proved true for one of the Detroit Lions following their victory over the New York Giants in the exhibition opener.

The Lions waived cornerback Tae Hayes in the aftermath of the game. Hayes, signed recently after a successful USFL stint, recorded a pass breakup and a special teams tackle in the win over the Giants. The 25-year-old journeyman had also made some positive plays in the joint practice sessions against New York.

Hayes’ departure means both players the Lions signed on August 5th are now gone one week later. The team previously parted ways with WR Avery Davis, too.

No word yet on the replacement roster spot. The Lions are off on Saturday.

36 days until Vikings season opener: Every player to wear No. 36

The No. 36 has been unoccupied since 2020, but 13 players have worn the number in Minnesota Vikings history.

It’s the final countdown…

Well, sort of.

The Minnesota Vikings will kick off their 2023 regular season in 36 days at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 10.

From now until then, we will take a trip down memory lane and count each day by revisiting the players that have worn that specific jersey number.

With 36 days until kickoff, here’s a look at every player to wear No. 36 with the Vikings (via Pro Football Reference):

Lions officially sign CB Tae Hayes and WR Avery Davis

Lions officially sign CB Tae Hayes and WR Avery Davis and waive LB Zach Morton

There are two new players at Saturday’s Detroit Lions training camp practice. The Lions officially announced they have signed CB Tae Hayes and WR Avery Davis to the 90-man roster.

Hayes is a direct replacement for injured CB Jarren Williams, who was waived with injury designation after being carted off from Thursday’s practice. The 25-year-old Hayes has bounced around several NFL teams as well as in the USFL.

Davis is an undrafted rookie from Notre Dame. He played in both the slot and outside for the Fighting Irish after transitioning from quarterback.

To make room for Davis on the roster, the Lions waived undrafted rookie LB Zach Morton, who had missed time in cam with an injury.

The Lions are signing CB Tae Hayes, waive injured CB Jarren Williams

Hayes has bounced around several NFL teams and also played in the USFL

There is a new cornerback heading into the Lions den. The team is signing veteran free agent Tae Hayes.

The info was first reported by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press and has been confirmed independently. Hayes is expected at practice on Saturday morning.

Hayes, 25, is entering his fifth NFL season out of Appalachian State. He’s bounced around several teams, including active stints with the Panthers and Patriots in 2022. He most recently tried out for the Buffalo Bills after being waived by the Patriots following the 2023 NFL draft. Hayes also played for the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL in 2022.

At 5-foot-9 and 182 pounds, Hayes is a bit of an odd size for an outside cornerback. He’s played outside almost exclusively, as well as working on punt and kick return units across his multiple NFL stops.

Hayes will fill the roster spot created when cornerback Jarren Williams was waived with injury status on Friday. Williams was carted off from Thursday’s practice session with a leg injury.

39 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 39 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 39 jersey number

The New England Patriots have officially reached the 39-day mark in our countdown series to their 2023 regular season opener. Today, we’re listing every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 39 jersey.

Fan-favorite running back Danny Woodhead is a name that many Patriots fans remember. The former undrafted free agent came to New England from the New York Jets and served as a reliable third-down option for quarterback Tom Brady and the Patriots offense.

He was just one of those special players that fit into the offense perfectly and consistently found ways to make plays.

However, one of the true forgotten Patriots on this list is former Los Angeles Rams All-Pro running back Steven Jackson. He made a pit stop in New England at the tail-end of his career and appeared in two games for the Patriots. It was an unlikely pairing that barely lasted a month.

Of course, Woodhead and Jackson weren’t the only ones to wear the number. Let’s take a look at every player throughout Patriots’ franchise history that has ever worn a No. 39 jersey (via Pro Football Reference).

Patriots Day 1 minicamp attendance: Who sat out on Monday?

Here are the Patriots players that missed Day 1 of mandatory minicamp

The first day of mandatory minicamp kick-started for the New England Patriots on Monday, and there were some key absences on the football field.

Receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster, who missed all of OTAs, still isn’t practicing. When speaking with the media, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Smith-Schuster was day-to-day. Second-year wideout Tyquan Thornton was also missing in action.

The team announced they were waiving running back James Robinson and veteran corner Tae Hayes. So that explains both of their absences from practice.

However, perhaps the biggest story of the day was ESPN’s Mike Reiss’ report that defensive tackle Lawrence Guy is believed to be holding out for contract reasons. There’s a possibility of him racking up nearly $100,000 in fines if he sits out all three practices.

Meanwhile, offensive tackle Trent Brown was reportedly out due to travel issues. Here’s the full list of players that missed the start of Patriots minicamp.

  • WR JuJu Smith-Schuster
  • OT Trent Brown
  • G Michael Onwenu
  • DT Lawrence Guy
  • WR Tyquan Thornton
  • WR Kayshon Boutte
  • RB James Robinson
  • CB Tae Hayes
  • CB Quandre Mosely

Mandatory minicamp is slated to run through Wednesday, and then the team will break until late July, before returning for training camp.

Veteran cornerback Tae Hayes has been waived by the New England Patriots.

The start of mandatory minicamp has suddenly turned into a day of roster cuts on Monday. Along with Hayes, the team also announced the release of running back James Robinson.

Hayes signed with the Patriots late in the 2022 season and managed to get on the field for two games, including the regular season finale against the Buffalo Bills.

It has been a career fit for a journeyman for the 25-year-old defensive back, who has already bounced around five different teams in his five years in the NFL.

Just because this is goodbye for now doesn’t mean it’s so long forever. The Patriots and Hayes could easily reconnect down the line when coach Bill Belichick is filling out depth on the roster.
