Chicago used a 16-0 third quarter to gain and eventually keep the lead. RB David Montgomery didn’t see the field. RB Khalil Herbert should be expected to be among the several backs that see a bulk of the load.

Seattle, expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this season, used its first game to potentially settle a hot quarterback battle. The Seahawks lost 32-25 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Drew Lock finished 11-for-15 for 102 yards and 2 TDs while Geno Smith was 10-for-15 for 101 yards. Rookie RB Kenneth Walker III played just 5 snaps while projected starting RB Rashard Penny didn’t see the field.

The Lock-Smith combo should produce more than a few series of Justin Fields and then a plethora of Chicago backups. The Bears used 3 veteran QBs in their opener.

I wouldn’t bet against the Seahawks at home with 2 QBs looking to impress, especially at -180. The +145 isn’t juicy enough to consider backing Chicago either.

Against the spread

LEAN SEAHAWKS -3.5 (+100).

The thought process here is the same. The Bears were able to come back when QBs Dustin Crum and Chad Henne entered the game for Kansas City last week.

That won’t be the case as Seattle will have 2 starter-quality quarterbacks on the field for the majority of the game.

The Bears entered half down 14-0 and only came back when Kansas City went deeper into their rotation. Also, Seattle has some high-profile players like Walker III who should be expected to see increased loads as the season inches closer.

Lastly, the home team covered the spread in both teams’ Week 1 matchup, so I’ll back Seattle to put on a show in from of their fans at Lumen Field.

BET OVER 39.5 (-108).

Overs were hot in Week 1 of preseason action, and considering there were 57 points in the Week 1 matchup between the Steelers and Seahawks, at least 1 offense is ripe for success.

The Bears’ defense struggled to defend the Chiefs’ top quarterbacks. With Lock destined for several series and Smith ready to take over after that, expect an efficient night from Seattle.

On the other hand, the Bears put up 19 points and should give Fields more snaps as the season approaches.

Montgomery was out with an injury last Saturday, but it was day-to-day and seemed precautionary. With another week to rest, the star back may see some action which would undoubtedly be a boost to Chicago’s offense.

With both offenses looking solid last week and Chicago’s struggles against the Chiefs when they had their top players in, expect the Over 39.5 (-108) to be the better play on the total.

It’s unclear whether the Vikings had any intention of playing QB Kirk Cousins, but that point was rendered moot when the quarterback tested positive for Covid. He won’t be making the trip which will give the team a chance to get a long look at QBs Kellen Mond and Sean Mannion — both of whom are viewed as potentially not being on the final roster if a better backup becomes available.

The Raiders didn’t play any of their starters in the Hall of Fame Game — a 27-11 blowout win over Jacksonville Aug. 4 in Canton, Ohio. The extra game shouldn’t change things too much and it wouldn’t be surprising to see nothing but backups in this game as new coaches Josh McDaniels and Kevin O’Connell try to figure out the back end of their rosters.

Given the Raiders have already played a game, those who are on the bubble or fighting for their NFL lives will have a leg up on the Vikings, who are changing their defense to a 3-4 for the 1st time in franchise history and still learning the terminology of the new coaching staff. I believe the Raiders are going to win, but I rarely place a bet wagering twice as much as I would get in return — much less in a meaningless preseason game.

Against the spread

The Raiders are viewed as the better team in this matchup, primarily because their 2nd and 3rd lines on the depth chart are better than the Vikings. A 3.5 spread shows that confidence.

The line seems to be goading people to put their money on Las Vegas because, as millions can attest each year, you lose money betting in Vegas. But the combination of the Vikings trying to figure out the depth beyond the starting 22 and the Raiders starting to figure out who will be staying and going, the Raiders have the edge.

These are the most difficult bets in the preseason because most coaches are more concerned about keeping the players they expect to stay on the roster not risking injuries. Games are decided by and large by players who won’t be on the rosters.

Because these players will be taking risks to make the big play that gets the attention of the coaches and front office, an Over/Under of 36.5 isn’t that difficult to beat. It may require 20 or more points in the first half to accomplish, but both teams will have some home run plays dialed up and given the inexperience of the back-end defenders, you only need a couple of them to hit.

The Dolphins are likely to run plenty, and not put Bridgewater and the pass offense into downfield mode. The Bucs have a mish-mash group of has-beens and never-will-bes at quarterback, and the offense will likely be a mess in the opener. Look for a low score here from both sides.

The UNDER 37.5 (-120) is the way to go.

While these teams are each deep at the QB position, these teams still are among the lowest ranked overall clubs in the NFL. The Washington defense will make things particularly difficult on the Carolina offense, and the Panthers D isn’t too shabby, either. Expect many field goals, not so many touchdowns.

The Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers open their preseason slates on Saturday at SoFi Stadium. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rams vs. Chargers odds, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Rams are technically the road team in this game, but the defending Super Bowl champions will be right at home at SoFi Stadium — their home field and the site of their Super Bowl win in February.

Under head coach Sean McVay, the Rams don’t play their starters in the preseason, so don’t expect to see QB Matthew Stafford, WR Cooper Kupp, DT Aaron Donald or CB Jalen Ramsey. Instead, McVay will use these games to evaluate his younger players at the expense of meaningless wins; the Rams went 0-3 in the preseason last year.

Chargers coach Brandon Staley will take a similar approach. He’s likely going to rest most of his starters too, giving rookies and unproven players a chance to make a name for themselves at SoFi Stadium. The Chargers scored the second-fewest points (23) in the preseason last year, resting QB Justin Herbert and other top players for all 3 contests.

The Rams went winless in the preseason last year while resting their starters, continuing McVay’s lack of success in these exhibition games — not that it matters in the slightest bit. He also usually lets his offensive coordinators call the plays, and the scheme isn’t exactly the most complex in the preseason.

However, the Chargers are going to be in the same boat with resting their starters and caring more about health than wins the next 3 weeks. I’ll roll with the underdogs and their solid collection of backups in the preseason when anything can happen. Take the RAMS (+130).

Against the spread

Taking the points in the preseason is never a bad idea. This game will be about backups and reserves playing against backups and reserves, so there’s no real edge on either side. Chargers QB Chase Daniel might be a better backup than Rams QB John Wolford, but their playmakers on the outside will both be on the weaker side.

I like the RAMS -3.5 (-110) in an evenly matched game at both teams’ home field.

Over/Under

The Rams scored 34 points in 3 preseason games last year. The Chargers scored 23. Both teams were in the bottom 6 of the league. Their defenses were similar in allowing 47 and 48 points, respectively, but don’t expect much from the offenses.
